Argentina against Brazil, Singapore could be domestic based team

Details are slowly beginning to emerge regarding Argentina’s upcoming matches against Brazil and Singapore.

All eyes will be on the Argentina bench come June 9 when the team takes the pitch at the MCG. As we reported last week, with current Sevilla coach Jorge SAMPAOLI’s job as the coach of the Argentina National Team all but official, rumors are beginning to surface regarding the two matches.

According to Gustavo YARROCH (of radio La Red and La Nacion), Inter captain Mauro ICARDI will be called to the team. This would be ICARDI’s second ever call-up to the squad, after having gotten his first cap in 2013 under Alejandro SABELLA against Uruguay. Furthermore, there are rumors that the team for the two matches could be made up mostly of domestic based players. While it might be difficult to keep Lionel MESSI away from the team, considering how much money the AFA would potentially stand to lose, the idea appears to be that it would mostly be players made up of the Argentina Primera who would make the squad.

May 19 is the day which Jorge SAMPAOLI is expected to announce the team.

  1. This was my wish from day one. It is time to rebuild the squad with additional new players. I want to see a mixture of some local Primera and some uncapped European based players included.

  2. National federations should quit organizing games at the end of the season unless a big tournament is coming up. Players want to go on holiday and have no interest in a useless friendly. Our case is a bit different this time as the new manager has four vital games coming up in August and September. Any chance to see new (!) players in actions should be seized with both hands.

@ Istiaque. Good point. I think the squad announcement will be done by someone else or at a later date.

So Primera 11 with promising players to pick:

    …………………………………..Batalla

    ………………………..Barboza………Martinez Quarta
    Peruzzi/Gomez/Di Placido…………………………………..Tagliafico

    ………………………………….Ascacibar
    ……………….Nacho Fernandez……………..Acuna

    ……..Pity Martinez………………………………………..Pavon
    ………………………………….Benedetto

    reserve:

    Conti CB (Colon)/ Figal (Independiente)
    Angileri LB (Godoy)
    Cecchini CM (Banfield)
    Henriquez CM (Godoy)
    Reynoso (Talleres)
    Alario

    • That is a realy impressive team you came up with Gonzalo especially the midfield. Fit in messi and icardi there and we might have ourselves a pretty good team to compete in any tournament !

        • Nacho is out for at least 2 weeks. If these team really will be Primera based I hope it will not mean he is out of rule.

          • Yah i second that. after watching a few highlights of his games, i would prefer him much more than other capable defensive midfielders such as pizarro. A box to box speedy midfielder is what we need now to revamp our midfield

    • Love the lineup Gonzalo, although i would replace Benedetto with Druissi but otherwise it’s a great squad.
Also are you thinking 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 because I feel this lineup is more suited for a 4-4-2 since Acuna and pity play as R and L midfielders usually, although Pity has been playing as a winger with Gallardo’s recent 4-2-3-1 lineup change.

      • Right, this would be:

        ………..Nacho….Ascacibar/Henriquez
        Pity……………………….Acuna

        or
        ………….Nacho…Henriquez

        ….Pity………Reynoso………..Acuna
