One of Wednesday’s matches in the Champions League can see three Argentine players, all of which defenders, taking part in the match. Benfica host Ajax in their first leg and Otamendi has featured in five of the six matches in the Champions League this season, missing one due to suspension. In the league, the Argentine has started their last seven matches.
Lisandro Martinez has taken part in every Champions League match for Ajax this season. In the league, he has started their last five matches. Nicolas Tagliafico has only taken part in two of the six matches in the Champions League this season for Ajax as he played in their last two matches. Tagliafico did not take part in the last league match for Ajax.
Those three Argentine players will not be the only ones playing in the Champions League on Wednesday. The other match on Wednesday is Atletico Madrid hosting Manchester United in their first leg match. There are two Argentine players in Rodrigo De Paul and Ángel Correa with Diego Simeone as coach.
This would be a test for Otamendi. Alajx has young and fast players and they interchange positions frequently and are unpredictable. I hope Otamendi is up to the challenge.
