Argentina line up for the match

Here's Argentina's line up for the match:

ROMERO; ZABALETA, FERNANDEZ, DEMICHELIS, ROJO; PEREZ, MASCHERANO, BIGLIA; DI MARIA, AGUERO and LAMELA

Sergio AGUERO will wear the number 10 and Javier MASCHERANO will be captain. Argentina will wear the blue shirt just as they did in the World Cup final.

Tata learned everything from Bielsa at NOB...we will now transition into possession football. I just hope that contrary to Sabella regarding Gago, Higuain and Aguero, that Tate plays the best in form players and opens up competition even if that means Lamela, Tevez or Icardi BC Higuain will only get slower by 2018..he played in 2 WC...that might be it for an international career... The defense will hold up if he leaves Biglia in to assist Mache...

i have to mention a thing here
people are complaining about our defence, yet with sabella they complain about the attack.

martino system was to f'ing attack and we scored 4 good goals, yes we conceded but the system is more likely to expose the back but atleast guarantees goals.

Sabellas defence kept us clean but didnt score, martino might be opposite, we will score more but concede more. , either way scoring i smore important than conceding/

Im happy with the result but remembering few germnay players had retired.

In the absence of messi everyone involved with the ball, and they look more fluid , the same should repeat with messi too. we should not more reliant on messi.

kh: correct but i and others said we need a back up for them (kun and hig) and pal and lav were not going to be it.
i said some thing close to
" do you really believe pal and lev are going to come off the bench and score a winner for us if needed
or even if we needed to come from behind"

a lot of us knew then it was a problem and the reality was it became a big problem.

i understand the taking of kun and hig but to have no backups ready was sabells mistake and if he had given others a chance and they failed then fair enough but in the friendly's this did not happen.
my self i would have taken icardi because of his height and he was looking sharp scoring some nice goals, im not saying he would have scored but it could not have been worse then pal and lav as goal scorers.

pal was a wasted place but at least lev offers more to his game but again he should not be taken as a back up striker as he is not one and his psg record proves it.

Pablo.d: The, thing is I didn' t see anyone on Mundo saying that Sabella should leave Higgy or Kun out of the team before the wc started..You remember when Higgy got injured during the Inter Milan game? Well I do, and as I can remember, Mundo was silent waiting to hear a positive news that Higgy will make the world cup on time..Let's say we didn't have Higgy and Kun at the world cup and we still lost? The first thing you would have heard is how Sabella left out two of Argentina best strikers for the world cup..My friend if we had won by one goal or another pk shootout victory, then we wouldn't be having this ongoing discussion about what ifs..It is what it is , Argentina was just not meant to win the world cup.

kh: on paper in is one thing but reality is another and i will say sabella had the worst injury luck in hig and kun (kuns started in jan), di maria being burned out and then injured, his key link up player in the mid being gago also injured for a long time and messi recovering from injury but in saying that sabella gambled in some if not all of them being fit and ready and it did not work out for us in a good way sadly, also not covering all of those positions was a mistake as it seems sabella was sure all of his players would recover in time and as we know they did not.
as for lav and pal they are strikers and they are their to score goals and at this w/c it is not some thing they excelled at.
for me pal should be gone and id convert lav into a winger as he did start out life as one.

@Dfox : absolutely right sir , in fact I too experienced a very stable and calm happiness through out the game tonight while our boys literally ran riot against an old rival and a top team. Surely it has something to do with the confidence I have developed seeing a solid Argentina and a assurance that our future is very bright !!

pablo.d: ''sabella fixed it but at the expensive of the attack.''

I don't get this my friend..Messi, Di Maria, Lavezzi, Higuain, Aguero, Palacio all played at the world cup..

Did Sabella put concrete in our attackers boots? The same team that scored the most goals in 2012 and 2013 in the world fail to live up to expectation at the world cup, its simple as that my friend.

kh: sabella fixed it but at the expensive of the attack.
the 1st 3 game were a shambles and he brought in an extra defensive minded player but in turn the connection to the front was close to zero, its a fine line between to attack minded and to defensive.
had every one been fit it would have been so different for us.

Argentina never had an attacking problem..It was our defense that have always been our weakness for a while..

2005 Cofed trashing ( head coach Perkeman)

2009 6 - 1 trashing to Bolivia (head coach Maradona)

2010 4 - 0 trashing ( head coach Maradona)

2011 poor defensive display at Copa America(head coach Batista)

Sabella fixed this problem in his tenure like no other before him in recent time..Sabella have turn Argentina back line into the world best back line..Sabella team has never been humiliated, this man is full of pride..

Tata have a great foundation to work with, thanks to Sabella..All needed now is for Demichelis, Palacio to retire followed by dropping Gago and Augusto..

Prior to the world up, my heart used to jump up and down like the ball whenever I used to watch ARG play, it was more nervousness than excitement but all that changed during the world cup.

What I'm trying to say is that we have a solid team and a bright future.

mic: another ride begins for us albicelestie.

its going to be a balancing act as to go to much like sabells plan (through some bad luck with the injuries and bad planning in not trying new options when we knew some of the injuries were before the w/c, lack of cover in certain positions and stubbornness) cost a team in its attacking prowess but as they say defense wins matches and offence sells tickets.

its now tatas task to find that balance as we do have now as we have always had the players to do this.

@pablo.d, I hope Martino build his team on defensive solidarity. we have enough attacking talent to hurt our opponents. if we can keep things tight at the back, we have a great chance of winning copa. And once the barren spell is over, WC will be ours.

@pradi, messi can be criticized like any other player, but saying that argentina plays well with out messi is bs IMO , also a player like messi is not just another normal player at the team, he offers more then what two players can offer and every big team builds their team around their main player to maximize their potential , the only coach who built the team around messi is sabella and we all saw the results, if not injuries argentina might have won the cup

I won't lament about how meaningless this victory is, because you already know that.

My opinions about this match:

1. Good things:

-Di Maria is great, he is versatile and a real genius. I'm glad we have him.
-Our attacks looked more "alive" than they looked under Sabella. I can't wait to see a Pastore, Messi, Di Maria trio together.

2. Bad things:

-We pressured the Germans higher on the pitch and it is not bad but I doubt that our defenders are fast enough (maybe except Rojo) to do that. It's a risk. We could easily get 3 goals in the first 30 minutes.
-Perez wasn't good in this 4-3-3 and Rojo was his former (before the WC) self.

As I said earlier the Bra71l match in October will be the true test for us, because it will be the same for Bra71l.

Guled, it is not any criticism towards messi.... The main mistake is of our coaches.... They shud hav treated him as another player.... All of dem gave additional attention to him considering as worlds best player n screwed.... His game dont hav de intensity of a mid fielder's game.... If he need to play in 4-3-3 along wit kun n hig, he need to track back, press hard, wanna cover more distance, shud involve de game more etc.... Both kun n messi can only b de best in a striker role, if reduced de weight higg will b better at mid than them.... And placing him behind 2 strikers we always treated him as a target man n expected to do some magics, which was de big foolishness imo.... If he was playing as de main striker or 2nd striker it was good to treat him as a target man, otherwise it is like no other in our team has de ablility to create play....
I agree kid, some treat here messi above NT.... Messi, aguero, di maria, tevez... all are same, there is not any special considerations... If we can criticise tevez or kun or higgs for their bad acts messi too....

@The Thinker, come on man! we scored four goals against the Germans! cheer up!

to be honest, i was secretly hoping for a draw or, loss so that we could at least break the sequence! but once Di maria scored the fourth, the 4-0 humiliation of 2010 came to my mind and I realized this is actually something special. this is not just any team for us, this is Germany and we scored four past them. so it means a lot! it's a pity the scoreline didn't stay 4-0 though.

@Kid-- here you go making stupid comments again... Brazil didn't give a "pass" to germany... Brazil hasn't produced any great players since Ronaldinho,, and the 7-1 is a reflection of just how Un-Brazilian Brazil has become...

our prblm at tournaments is our physicality i think.... That was germans biggest positivity... Their natural physicality is keeping them fresh for whole tournament, where as we exhaust in mid way... Imagine sabella style of play was of least movements cant play more conservative than that, still we got exhausted, tgen imagine de case that we played under sampaoli, de chile style, wud hav died at group stage itself, what exactly hpnd at 2002....
The only way we can win WCs or copa is using de depth of our talent pool.... Find 2 equally qualified players for each position... I mean 2 RBs, 4 CBs, 2 LBs, 4 DMs, 4 AMs, 4 FWDs.... 2 players who can start in each position.... We can acheive tgat very easily, hopefully tata act intelligently n give us some silverware.... Please man, we are desperate....
Ha ha ha.... Party started here already, bikes rolling loud allover here, it seems like we won WC final.... Some mad wounded albiceleste fans.... ;-)

5- great lamela... So we can play with messi as striker with 2 wings..
6-we need player beside biglia and mascerano as playmaker

I think it's a great start by Martino. With just one day's training he is able to produce this result. The defense looked shaky though. The solidity we showed under Sabella was missing today. But the attacking flair was impressive, specially Di Maria. Few minor changes need to be made. Demichelis should call it a day or be left out. Gago shouldn't be anywhere near the NT. A few new faces (any 2/3 from Fazio, Musacchio, Otamendi, Peruzzi, Orban, Tagliafico) in defense plus Pastore in midfield would work wonders.

Friendly or whatever f**k it is, very happy seeing us winning, especially against germans n brazil...
The prblm is not messi, playing him at mid... Got de set back at 2010 for that n continued this year also, that was our biggest mistake imo.... 4-4-1-1 was our best frmtn wit messi, rotating higgs n kun, might hav kept kun fit for whole tournament... N this game exposed our lack of attacking mids in WC squad clearly... Watched sanchez mino torino debut, really get frustrated, having such impressive talents we end up playing lav n pal as attacking mids...
It seems kun cant run continously more than 30 mins, noticed de same wen he startd for man city last week, if he had subd in half time wit gaitan wud hav got better result... And demichellis please step down in a good way.... Anyway decent start from martino... An instant reply for low's comment "germany is gonna rule de world for next some years"
F**k o** man...

1. Thanks to Sabella for this team.

2. Congrats to Martino for the strategy.

3. Funny thing is not that we have won playing without Messi (our best forward) and Garay (our best defender). Funny thing is we have played two of our worst defenders (Demi and FF) and still won this match. We have conceded both goals due to FF though.

4. Di Maria is a gem.

One of the greatest paradoxes of Life is Argentina crushing germany everytime they meet in friendlies and the opposite occurring everytime they meet in World Cup... if Argentina do win their third World Cup,, they WILL HAVE to beat the germans and there is absolutely no shortcut to that...

this useless match only increased the pain of Argentina fans... Logically thinking,, Latin American teams will not win the WC for a very long time... because players leave their country for European money at an age when their Balls haven't even grown... this trend is now picking a terrifying pace and it will completely destroy the identity of Latin America... and this European monopoly business is worst thing that could've happened to the Beautiful game...

But one day Latin America will win... One day Argentina will break it's drought and i hope everyone here is alive and well to witness that historic moment...

guled: Ok, let me explain for you..Sabella build the team around Messi, and with that the entire team has to sacrifice for him..If Messi is having an off game it affect the entire team because everyone plays for him..Argentina played the same 3-5-2 formation and defeat Bosnia comfortable without Messi on the team back in the USA before the world cup..What happen when Sabella deploy Messi in the same 3-5-2 formation at the world cup? Messi struggled and was crying how he doesn't like 3-5-2..Argentina can win Copa America without Messi..There was a Argentina before Messi and there will be a Argentina after Messi..

I'm not trying to be hard on Messi but it seems for some of you guys Messi is a god and he shouldn't be criticize.

Germany can say what they want they played nasty.
Romero was clearly Injured and also Zaba. I like that Argentina played without Messi.

The game as expected lost fluidity when the substitutions were made.
The areas that need work are clear to see.
Offensively when on form Argentina is scary...but the problem pre-Sabella showed up.

Positive and fixable things as I always say.

to people who say this game doesn't matter, the germans are supposed to be the world cup champions and are being destroyed at home, in front of all their fans, in their first defence.

that shows what a sham the final was, the corrupt refereeing, and that the best team in the world didn't win that game.

the final was in dispute because of that corrupt call on the foul on higuain by neuer, and that's why that pussy garbage cheater neuer is on the bench.

the germans didn't want him embarrassed 10-0.

pablo.d: Argentina played all there games in mid day except for the first game and the semis..There is no great draw at the world cup, every team is there because they qualify..Why didn't Argentina make the final back in 2002, if we are talking about route?

Good news is Lamela scored a wonder goal! Angel playing very well & lead in attack like a leader! In defence Romero showing his super natural ability!

Bad news, we are going to win this pointless freindly as usual before! Argentine players take this match so seriously__xmpl> Angel, Enzo Perez, Biglia, Mascherano, Zabaleta, Fernandez, Romero & .....?

Aguero??? Oh, he scored a "Selfie" for Angel!!

Oh again! Breaking news F.f & Angel scored........!!! Now we are 4-1 up! So who cares?????????? This is not World Cup final! Paine....... :(

with di maria we would have won for sure, like i said...

but the one to blame given di maria injury is gago...

in extra time, if augusto had come in, instead of gago, we would have won...

is simple, all goals they score on us was when gago was playing.

withou gago we had a blank sheet.

on one hand we had the great draw, great travel time but then the gods played their hand for us and all of our key players got injured before the w/c and then di maria during it-player wise we had the worst luck we could have asked for.

argentina beating germany 2-0 @ berlin. in a friendly. as usual.

we all know what happens when it comes down to a knockout.

if you watched gomez tonight, you must've wondered whether he has caught the higuain virus.

two sumptuously volleyed goals, two incredible assists.
Argentina has quality which money can't buy.

demichelis, there is a thing called retirement-with-honor.

I like tata's 4-3-3. playing genuine wingers instead of strikers out wide.

pablo.d: Everyone knows Sabella is defensive coach but if you go back to the final we had the chances to win the game, so you can't blame Sabella for the end result..If we barely had chances on goal then I would agree with you on Sabella tactics but that was not the case..As defensive as Sabella was Argentina should have won the world cup with ease..Germany is just an upgrade version of England, there is nothing special about Germany..Spain on the other hand, had a philosophy how they play, not the same case with Germany..

Argentino Trucho:

I know what you are thinking. But I think Sabella knew better. Like today, Sabella also played a friendly against Germany where Argentina won by 3-1. Remember?

Germany just had thrashed Brazil by 7-1. They were on top of their form. At that moment and considering a world cup final match, Sabella might have thought, playing defensive was the best option.

Argentino Trucho: it always a juggling game for any manager but what sabella did coast us in attack as he had to many defensive players on the field and the lack of link up cost us taking games into extra time and by the time of the final were were knackered.

we missed todays di maria in the w/c but when he did play he was not the same-knackered and when he got injured their was no counterattacking game at all as we did not have cover for him.

We did play offensive style once in 2010 and you know what happened.

We have lost two World Cup finals to the Germans...both times that we lost we played a defensive style...maybe its time that we stop giving them/opponents so much credit. We are Argentina...you will win 95% of the times if you score 3 goals.
