Basanta impressed me more than Rojo. He seems more collective and not prone to losing easy balls like Rojo. I'm so glad Gago wasn't put in from the start. I thought it was a good call from Sabella to put him in late to solidify the midfield a bit, but Biglia did way better for Argentina than Gago has been so far. I'm still not sure about 4-4-2 though. Messi doesn't run back much and gets left alone up top with like 3 defenders around him. Demichellis did good. Seems also more collective than FF and won a lot of headers.

The best Argentina performance so far.Almost everyone on the field was excellent. Higuain has showed up.Believe me, it is going to get even better.Just one thing; go for the killer second goal.It would be suicidal to rely on a one goal lead against Netherlands.
This World Cup is ours!!!
Vamos Argentina!!!

I have raised the ratings of the players by a notch because everyone played great together and complemented each other. Messi ran more than usual and took over the midfield. Higuain was the best player, he was everywhere and had an almost perfect game with that amazing early strike. If he scored that 2nd goal I woulda prolly give him a 10. I never gave anyone a 10 yet. I gave him a 9.

Romero is getting this high note because he saved us from two own goals, one is Garay's and the other one I cannot recall now.

Credit to Romero for that. Our net has been the only one immaculate for the knock out phases. I pray that this trend continues.

I think a poll like "who should replace di maria in the semi?" can be a good idea for this blog

@san isidro
Gago for one major reason.....with Dimaria out, that is one of Messi's biggest supply lines.....the other is Gago...Gago is 5th in the world cup in completed passes with 325. stats don't lie ;)

@tony montana
It would be interesting to have Rojo, who is normally a fullback, play on the wing of the midfield in a 4-4-2. Hmmm

@Batigol: Argentina will use 'home jersey' vs Netherlands too. If Brazil make it in to final we will use 'home jersey' in that match too. If Germany make it into final then that's up to Germany. If they go with home jersey (they will do) we have to use 'away kit' for the first time in final. If the German select their away..we can continue with home jersey(possibility is very less).

Interesting facts for this World Cup for argentina:

1) 20 out of 23 players have featured for argentina. Only A. Fernandez, Andujar and Orion have not yet played.
2) argentina won all the matches in this World Cup with a single goal margin (I wouldn't mind if the next two match are won with the same margin)
3) argentina have not weared the away Jersey so far in this world cup

I m happy Higuain back to his form , He should have score more but the luck didnt allow him to do , as well as Messi ( one on one to courtois ) .I wish Aguero form would come back as well . But palacio should be kept at bench , all he did was useless

Why is Romero getting 7.5 and Di Maria 7.2? All Romero had to do was to make one standard save!

guled: Higuain is back at the right time, he had a bad knock from that Inter Milan game and he's finally fit..This is the same Higuain that run himself into the ground for Napoli last season with no help from the Napoli midfield..Aguero will be back scoring, its funny how some guys here earlier wrote Aguero off...I know for sure that Kun will step up at some point during this world cup, this world cup wont go by without Aguero making his mark on it, and that is a BIG motivational factor for Aguero at this point in time..

I re watched the game v belguim, higuain run him self to the ground, what a performance for a guy who struggled earlier, if he plays like that v Dutch we will have many chances to score, the whole team played well , a performance like that and we don't have to fear any one, the desire of our players is at it's highest and that is the difference

Tony Montana

Gago? Gago?

He has about as much chance of starting as I do. We aren't trying to lose the game with his slow out of shape frail ass.

i dont know who can play Marias role. he run very fast and play at the both side of the field, he is a fear and threat for opposition. i dont know how to surrogate him. Ricky is not that fast. hopefully Sabella will find some solution. i am sure he has.

Guys
For some of the old timers on here, you probably know this. For the newbies, here is a piece of information. 6 or 7 years ago when Dimaria was just a puppy, and he first made it to the argentina squad as an attacking midfielder, he beat out another player on this team. It was a very questionable call at the time, as he was a relative unknown. That midfielder he beat out barely was Ezequiel Lavezzi. Ultimately Lavezzi moved to forward and the rest is history.
My point is with Aguero back, Lavezzi can easily replace Dimaria for a game, and Aguero is the exact quick strike forward that can instantly change this game with a rebound goal or something of the sort. God bless you Dimaria, and I hope we beat the Dutch in the semis.

Zabaleta and rojo will be the key players against holland... not only rojo has to handle the bald dolphin he and zaba will have to provide immaculate crosses from the flanks... Hopefully kun wont have to comeoff the bench .. but he should be given few minutes as we need him for the final..

dis rating i suppose is juzz about right!
still think leo can do better.
his performance actually taper off.
but Gonzalo finally arrived,we really need him as a pivot point of our attack&of coarse as a striker. its so good to see him back,now,awaiting kun,if we can play the fab 4,in the final,dey 'll run RIOT.
trust me.
i still think argentina 've not arrived in the wc yet,the belgium game is the best so far.

Romero didn't have much to do because Garay-Demichelis was closed to the perfection. The full-backs did well to block the Belgium wingers and especially Basanta did lot of efforts to help central backs. He put lot of pressure to Fellaini and forced De Bruyne and Mirallas to play far.

Biglia is much more solid than Gago defensively and intercepted a lot of ball. His presence did help much Maschereno, who did very well his passing. Before the injury, Di Maria as usual tried a lot. Perez played decently well, it's quite difficult for him to come into a game with such intensity without warm up. And most of the time he had to play as winger which is not his familiar position. His contribution in pressing was very valuable. He combined quite well with Messi and Lavezzi. He may be less spectacular than Di Maria but he did well in playing simple.

Lavezzi, quite critized, was not that bad, he helped defending all the time, which is his main duty. He association with Zabeleta on the right eclipsed Hazard. Nothing more to say about Higuain-Messi. Messi cotinues to impress in his playmaker role. He gave the tempo, dribbled and shot. For me, he did as well as some traditional number 10 like Zidane or Riqueleme, if not even better. After his score, I feel Higuain has his confidence back. He could have scored more goals if more lucky.

It was a very encouraging game, good coaching, good defense with world-class players very aggressive and technical and we have finally our forward back. Unfortunately we lost Di Maria. Hope that Sabella can find another strategy to compensate this loss.
