News From Training Camp & Di Maria

Today the team will be back at training at about 4.30 PM local time as they prepare themselves for the semi final match up against the Netherlands.

As for Angel DI MARIA, various reports are claiming that he has suffered a tear on his thigh muscle which there will be an examination on him to be conducted today.

So far there is no official report from the team itself that he will no longer be taking part in the World Cup although the news reports strongly says otherwise.

We could be hearing something today. Stay tuned.

I don't think Sabella would start Ricky. i think it's better if we start with enzo, Bigila, Masche & Lavezzi in midfield;

In the second half as the situation demands, we could sub Lavezzi for Kun this time around! and Also Ricky for Enzo

@xtreme - I would go one step further and suggest that Higuain and Lavezzi's running and pressure on their defenders at times contributed as well to the defense.

my self im not pointing to any one player who tightened our defense, im just suggesting the combinations for the Belgium game work very well together including biglia.

will they work again as well? is always the million dollar question as its a different game vs the dutch.

@ pablo, it wasn't just demi, biglia played a huge role in solidify the midfield and thus making our defence that much stronger.

I agree with Pablo about Rojo. It's the little things that make the difference and I think Basanta and Demi were doing all the right little things at the back.

Before the game I posted " I had a feeling that Enzo will play..." fortunate/unfortunate he played and he played well but we lost Angel D Maria due to injury. Even though we miss him badly I am sure we will progress to the final.
Now who will play instead of him is still unknown because only God knows what Sabella thinks. Which is eventually one of our strength that opposition team will not have any clue on our starting X1.
On the upcoming match it is a revenge for me and for many Albiceleste fans. Elder ones says that revenge is not good, may be they are right but that Bergkamp's stunner still haunts me....
Hail Argentina.

@Makail, you and I are in the same line. I think Sabella should start Richy on Di Maria spot. They pretty much have the same chemistry. Enzo and Augusto dont have enough technique, skills, and speed to replace Di Maria.

And dont get me wrong guys, i think Richy has more skills and technique than any other player in this team(beside Messi).

i do agree the team is going out to just do the job and exactly the job sabella set them, the job is also winning the w/c and that they will do.

If Argentina perform the same way they did against Belgium we will be controlling this game from the get go..If Holland perform the way they have been playing against Mexico and Costa Rica then they wont stand a chance..Argentina is getting better by the day while Holland is static at the moment..

One thing I notice with Demichelis in the back is that he can sure marshal that half-side trap..He was doing the same thing for Man City in the latter stage of the campaign..

The good thing is we finally got the right formula, masch is immense I don't think there is any defensive midfielder like him in the world and on top of that he didn't get even one yellow card like cannavaro 2006, masch is underrated, he is on par with messi as the most important player in the team, biglia coming has helped him a lot, our players will give it all i am confident about that

guled: i agree rojo is faster but i still think the defense played the best we have seen them in 4 games,
some times its not the names on the field its how they jel together.
then again maybe it was demi who pulled them together as ff has been bad.

Sabella should've played Alvarez in Di Maria stead. Alvarez is a creative force and bringing more scoring threat with him than either Enzo or Augusto. Our attack could use a bit of help with another long range sharp shooter in our arsenal.

Defense was rock solid and should be kept the same or maybe replace Basanta with Rojo because his pace will be a big advantage to counter Robben's threat down the left.

Romero
Zaba-Demichelis-Garay-Rojo
Alvarez-Biglia-MAscherano-Lavezzi
Messi-Higuain

Aguero to replace either Lavezzi or Higuain in the second half

Pablo.d, rojo speed is vital v robben, basanta isn't as fast but he did well v belguim, as for di Maria I feel sabella will go with enzo Perez for defensive duties, the Dutch midfield is light so sabella is thinking to overwhelm them and not let them breath in that area, I am glad aguero is back becouse he will be good sub and his presence will scare them, remember aguero started to score in the semifinal in 2008 Olympics

Official News on Di Maria and Aguero...

Di Maria has undergone medical tests on Sunday and is reported to be desperate to be fit should Alejandro Sabella's men get past the Dutch to play against Brazil or Germany at the Maracana on June 13.

Daniel Martinez, Argentina's team doctor, gave a much more optimistic outlook towards Di Maria's injury than the player's agent had originally given, however, insisting that there remains a possibility he could be back in action in a week.

"Di Maria, like Sergio Aguero, has a light injury," he told reporters. "It is one of the mildest muscular injuries.

"He won't play in the next match. After that we'll look at him on a day-by-day basis."

Di Maria has been an ever-present in Sabella's starting line-up in Brazil and scored the winning goal in extra-time against Switzerland in the last-16.

Martinez also gave good news regarding Aguero, who has struggled with injury throughout the World Cup, by revealing he should be fit to feature against Louis van Gaal's men on Wednesday.

We cant be toooooo defensive..... Too mourinho football may result us in what chelsea hpnd to atleti in CL.... We have to score goal, we must not go to penalties... Rojo is a must start at LB imo... If masche n biglia is there our full backs hav little more freedom to move forward... Basanta offered nothing noteable in attacking third... And i feel even it was fede n rojo we wud hav made this level of prfmnc coz most of de mins we played with 3 DMs by effect whereas fede played 1/2 man gago infront of him... And i said about demi not only basis of one situation, generally, as we hav good tall dfndrs we dont need to take chance...

Biglia, Enzo, Lavezzi, Demichellis, Rojo, and the rest against Holland.

4-4-2 Defending, and a 4-2-3-1 in Attack.

Vamos Argentina!

DiMaria might miss the Holland game, but might be back before the Final, nothing confirm yet.

its a real tough decision but as the defense kept a useful Belgium team to zero real shots on target (in fact we actually got closer to scoring for them then any thing they conjured up) why chance it?
id feel sorry for rojo as he has been one of our better players but why chance a winning formula as the defense looked very good and solid.

This may seems too defensive-minded. I think if Di Maria is unable to play, Sabella should throw Rojo into Di Maria's position. Argentina defended pretty well against Belgium. The guys seemed to have a great understanding among them. The last thing Sabella should do is dropped Basanta, who did not have a bad game. If the team can repeat similar performance against Netherlands but with a little more dynamic, they will smoked Netherlands..

Leo intercepted ball for move that created goal.... And one point, we cant only go for pace n physic, we need creativity im mid, otherwise there wont b dfrnc between us n brazil... Check de dying mins of last game when we had masche, biglia, enzo, gago mid, we lacked ball movement n struvgled to hold possession... Enzo is more of a deep lying playmaker not an attacking mid, almost same to masche n biglia but has got little more dribbling ability where other two are pass masters... I prefer a diamond mid of masche-augusto-perez-ricky with ricky as classical #10 n will also track back well... Enzo n augusto r very good defensively n also can play ball well.... I strongly believe we hav de quality to handle without angel... And imo ricky is more clinical finisher than di maria...

Note: Its the first time in Argentina history since forever that they have won 5 straight games at the world cup...

Before the world cup started, these were my 5 most important players for Argentina..

1. Messi

2. Mascherano

3. Di Maria

4. Aguero

5. Zabaleta

On this list Messi and Mascherano are irreplaceable..As long as Messi and Mascherano are on the pitch together Argentina will be fine...Argentina can survive a Dutch team without Di Maria..The Dutch midfield is no match for Switzerland and Belgium mids, likewise their defense..Take Robben out of the Dutch team and you see how ordinary this team becomes..

and a question for everyone: with Neymar out, would you rather see us play Germany or Brazil in the final? For the first time, I want it to be Brazil, since I know they will play an attacking minded game and that's like a dream for us. Teams like Germany and Netherland can always take it to PKs and I just hate for that to happen.

There are semi-good news coming out saying that ADM might be fit for the final! this is not bad, except that the Netherlands may come out all defensive and try to force a penalty shootout. They are 100% prepared for that and I don't think we are! A creative player like Angel would've been perfect for games like this.

Anyways, if we want to win a world cup we have to be able to beat big teams in regular time, something we have not done since 1990. We will be tested on this again on Wednesday and this will be our chance to show what we really have!

Rojo as a winger who can help to stop robben.

if we go with Alvarez we will be committing suicide. As I said, we need cover in the midfield to stop robben and prevent schnieder from shooting. Messi, Alvarez, Lavezzi, and Higuain would be suicide. DiMaria worked because he's very good defensively, while Alvarez is not even close.

I do not get it when some say Alvarez should replace DiMaria and list pace as an attribute! Do you actually watch Inter games? Alvarez has no pace at all. He is creative and I like him as an impact sub if the team is struggling, but he's not pace and not explosive.

If DiMaria misses (which looks like certain), our best bet is Perez. Not as skillful as DiMaria but explosive, creative, and runs a lot, and has better pace and stamina than Alvarez. If DiMaria's injury and Perez showing against Belgium are not enough to convince Sabella, then nothing will.

Having said that, I think Sabella will do the right move and play Perez. Having a tough trio in the midfield is essential to double team Robben. Then of course its up to Messi and the guys upfront to do the damage.

Talking about Messi. He should move more asking for the ball. He spends too much time walking around which helps midfielders closing him down.

Guys in 1990 we lost because of stupid referee 1994 fifa betray with us by suspended Maradona(I don believe Maradona takes any drug), in 1998 Ortega destroyed us by loosing his temper,2002 can't forgot tht year we played beautiful n excellent. Football b4 World Cup bt it was our coach (lack of knowledge),2006 again our coach pakerman(don hav the idea hw to defend 1goal simply an asshole),2010 again u get an headless chicken coach(Maradona), Germany just trashed our team. But this time I am really happy to see finally we get a coach with proper knowledge, startigically sound n also tactically..he knws wht he is doing he can picturized the game.....let's just hope for the best....

Lets wait and see..What I have read about Di Maria is not coming from the Argentina medical staff but other sources, until I read Sabella say Di Maria is out of the semis or world cup then I'll believe but for now there is nothing concrete other than people trying to get readers..Scolari and the whole Brazilian team acknowledge Neymar was out of the world cup the same day, Sabella has not said anything about the seriousness of Di Maria injury thus far..

Nigel de Jong missing will leave a hole in the dutch midfield that argentina can exploit... Dimaria's injury will affect our performance very little if sabella can repeat the masterstroke changes he made against Belgium... I would only worry about robben but i think he will get eaten alive by the best left back in the world-- Marcos Rojo...

Things are looking good for our youngsters. Zuculini to Man city and if Yaya who will reportedly join P$G he will be 3rd choice CM. Iturbe I heard Roma Juve and Liverpool want him. Lamela has Pochettino and him and Erikson will be so deadly. Icardi I heard Atletico want him Imagine him and Correa together in their primes my god so much goals. I am kind of split between who should take DiMaria's place. Whether it should be Ricky Alvarez or Enzo Parez. I know who it shouldn't be: Maxi. Not to put Maxi down, but he is more of an impact sub at this stage in his career and compared to the other two.

With Alvarez you get a similar player to DiMaria with a creative flair, speed and offensive versatility. With Perez you get a more defensively astute player who can also provide service from the midfield…and the continuity he already established playing with Mascherano and Biglia for an hour on Saturday. Very tough call between those two.

I know that neither will be as dynamic as DiMaria but I also think both with probably play much more in control and not commit all the turnovers that DiMaria commits. I've said many times DiMaria is a two-sided coin with the good usually outweighing the bad.

One thing we will desperately miss with DiMaria is his amazing stamina and ability to run ALL DAY. My biggest wish is that we take care of Holland in regular time. In extra time, we don't have DiMaria to run their defense into the ground and God forbid we go to penalties against that irritating Tarzan who was only brought to Brazil to save penalties. My 2 cents for what its worth.

Rojo garay Demi zabaleta

Remember guys Ricky can straight out play. Same type of player with fresh legs.
