#ARG Through Thanks To Goal-zalo Higuain

First and foremost sorry for the late article as I’m just waking up after a massive hangover celebrating with fellow Argentina fans right through the early hours. But it was all worth it!

Honestly, I had a mixed feeling prior before the match as we were informed on further changes with regards to Lucas BIGLIA coming in for Fernando GAGO; making three changes to the actual first eleven. Big question was that can the team settle quickly?

Belgium quickly took the game into Argentina territory for the first minutes and we weren’t able to touch the ball. But as soon as we got the first touch the momentum quickly shift in our favor. All is left for us to find the net and it came so sooner rather than later.

Lionel MESSI twist and turned than made a pass to Angel DI MARIA who’s shot took a slight deflection but the ball perfectly landed onto Gonzalo HIGUAIN who didn’t hesitate to shoot it with his right foot into the net to give us the lead.

hiaguaingoal by wrevt

Finally the deadly attacking line up that we’ve all been talking about has come alive and the best part it was huge relief for Pipita to finally score in this World Cup.

For the most part of the game, it looked like Argentina were keeping things tight but the Belgians didn’t look so impressive either. Was hoping that we will take advantage out of this by scoring more but that didn’t happen.

MESSI provided brilliant through ball into the path of DI MARIA but his shot was blocked by Vincent KOMPANY, along the process injuring himself. He was replaced by Enzo PEREZ and for now we are not sure how bad it is although I did read on Ole that he is out of the World Cup, sigh.

We will keep you posted on this.

The Red Devils did try to use their height superiority but thank God we manage take control of that. Not to mentioned, several times the Belgians did came close but no to avail.

MESSI had a breakthrough in the dying minutes to end this game in spectacular style but his shot was blocked by Thibaut COURTOIS.

In the end, the long awaited for a place in the semi –final is finally over. The curse of the quarter final has been lifted.

Above all of that, the Beard has granted my prayers for further four more days of happiness.

VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!

Take all my respect man.

I will support Argentina if Jose Mourinho is our coach; If christiano Ronaldo becomes an Argentine and gets selected for National Team...i'll still be an Argentina Fan.

If we play 8-1-1 formation, I'll still root for our team.

The point being, you are born with a privilege, A big heart to support. What you get by posting sentences like "with Di maria out, Argentina is done" ????

And whatever we do, we can't do shit if grondona rules for a 100 years more. Can anybody amongst us change that? So what's the point in bitching and moaning?

I am a supporter of Barcelona and I love beautiful free flowing attacking football. And I hate teams who park the buses and play defensive football. But I know for a fact that It is not necessary to play expansive football. It's always great to win!!! And winning ugly or winning beautiful all seems the same if you are a fan!

Holland will be a test but I remain cautiously optimistic about our chances. The tactic and player changes have paid off. Biglia was a monster and I would rather not see Federico Fernandez play in this tournament again. Demichellis looked more confident and Garay looked more comfortable with him at his side. Romero has been a pleasant surprise. Argentina as a whole looked organized and managed to shut down the game when needed. I don't care about scoring 5 goals a game, I care about winning when the final whistle goes. I hope the ref will keep his eye on Robben and his theatrics...One dive from that idiot could cost us the match...Cheers to Argentina for playing smart and being the top four in the world...Even with the host country against you every step of the way

@Amlan, you have a point brother. I think the same like you. But I cannot stand hypocrisy and ranting of someone.

You asked why those reasonable users are scared away. Well brother, those crows of Maxi Lopez, Dammage 7, etc scared them away. Simple as that.

This is not my blog, but I come here to share the feeleings and comments with the rest of you, as I unfortunately cannot speak Spanish, so that to know more and share about my beloved team.

I cannot stand injustice, that's why I got enraged.

@ Richard thats a good observation. Sneijder marking messi, I thot thats good for us. But your point has more meat.

About messi, he needs to unleash himself. Hope we can win this.

kid you are right Lavezzi needs to shoot more I remember that pass Messi gave to him like in the second minute of the game where he had a pretty good angle to shoot but instead he tried to cross it to Higuain

You are right, no one can defend Messi. Van Gaal's thinking is different. Putting Sneijder on Messi means he's free to join dutch attacks as Messi doesn't run back to his own box.

Amlan, I agree with you. Maxi Lopez write one comment and you spinning it with 200 comments. Can not you guys just ignore guys like Dammage7, Outlaw or others for once? You say they are not constructive, but is it constructive to react their silly comments with your hundreds of similar worthless comments when we are only 2 games away.

Its amazing how people love to waste their valuable time on shit.

Before the world cup started, Sabella main target was the semis..Its like his attitude was, no matter what or how we play, Argentina must get to the Semis..We have now achieve stage one of the Sabella project, onto stage two, winning the world cup..

Guys, please don't bicker on worthless topics like negativity or too much optimism....

We are only 2 games short to win a world cup after 28 years. Now its time we just supported the team and discussed about line ups, opposition strategies and our players' injuries.

This is getting pathetic. Every time I enter a post in this blog I have to scroll a mile to get those bickering posts out of my sight.

Some supporters spend their valuable time to post some important information which I don't want to miss in the crowd of unnecessary argumentative posts about unnecessary topics like our fellow fans' negativity or overoptimism.

Around 200+ comments are made under each post now. But how many of those are read-worthy?

I am sure a lot of people will also feel such vexation about those comments.

This is one of the reasons that I can not find those intuitive bloggers anymore who used to comment here.

i think it is better for all of us to skip the posts of MaxiLopez,, he has a big mental problem when talking about argentina,, he lives in his own fantasy land... to say that we should win every game 3-0,, it is absolutely childish comment but he can't just understand the nature of the football today... MaxiLopez doesn't want argentina to win the WC,, he wanted his beloved Pekerman's team to win the WC but he was so pissed off at another QF exit that he vented his outrage on sabella and argentina which is just BEYOND EPIC... and the most strange thing is,, he is an argentine...

Constructive criticism is more than welcome here... But to denigrate sabella this way is nothing short of unpatriotic... The Man has taken us to the semifinal for the first time for 24 years... Even if you are the umpteenth wife of Pekerman,, at least do give credit to this hard working Man... and please it was all due to "LUCK"... the winners make their own luck and this argentina was tested by some of the most toughest defensive teams in the world... that is most crucial difference between Sabella and Pekerman-- Sabella actually knows how a team can WIN amidst pressure from all corners while Pekerman only knows how to play wonderful football against tactically weaker teams and then blow it all in the QF against equally competitive teams...

I know that all argentines are not like you MaxiLopez... Certainly not those Argentines who crossed the border to Brazil to see the Cup in the hands of messi... and i know that a coward like you doesn't even watch Argentina matches LIVE...

Netherlands Play with 5-3-2/5-4-1-1 formaton which Sabella and our team is very much accustomed with this formation. In taining Sabella always played our team 4-3-3 vs 5-3-2. So, our boys must have very good idea about how to play against Dutch.

Dejong was critical for Netherlands, he was the only Netherlands in controlling the midfield and Messi. Without him, Netherlands chance of beating Argentina will drop massively. And I don't see them beating Argentina even with De Jong, so stay tuned.

I heard they will deploy Sneijder and some other guy to try and stop Messi..lol All the best with that tactics Van Gaal..No one on your team can stop Messi, even if Di Jong was not injured he still would not be enough to stop Messi..Holland have exceed there limits already, they have ran out of ideas..

Lavezzi should shoot more even if some of his shots are off target, he can't always pass the ball when he's on the edge of the opponent 18 yard box..

Costa Rica with all the injuries and yellow cards they had in their team was so close to send the Dutch home packing except for their Godzilla goalie who came to save his team. I think Argentina should come up with a good plan and with better finishing to get the Dutch ready to take the 3rd place.

Netherlands is more predictable than Belgium, so this must be an easier task for Argentina. The Dutch are losing form as showed in the last 2 matches.

What I like about the performance gainst Belgium was the ability to change the tempo of the game by Argentina. We can past pace the tempo at will and we can slow down at will. It was a dominant and professionally controlled game by our players, though it was not perfect yet.

But rather than feeling it was a half empty glass, it was more like it was half full glass. I believe there is more to come from Argentina in the upcoming matches. This has made our team simply a bit mysterious to the oppositions. They think they know how to beat us but the truth is they don't and we haven't fully released the handbrake yet. And we succeeded to defeat our opposition in each match by doing just enough.

everyone talks crap about us

fighting fotball we are the best

posession football we are the best

counter attack e re the best

slowingthe game down we are the best

no other national team hasthis rich history ofso much footballing domination brazil have emerged after years of argentina dominance

brazil went 20 years with out a wc i really hope this is a era of domination for argentina and we need to win the copa america to and a third olyimpic gold

we need to stamp authority i beleive mascharano can win a third olyimpic gold if we get there i can see messi also wanting to take part again

mascharano is the beast worship the beast

if di maria wasnt lost are midfield domination and unleashed attacks would hae been better in the second half we had goals in us

lavezzi had some great moves to we can out do holland with are floating 442 by messi and perez heling in midfield we destroyed belgiums midfield even after loosing dimaria

What I am thinking right now -

Messi needs to unleash himself now. These are the 2 games he has waited for all his career. These are the 180 minutes of football he has kept himself ready all this season for. This is the trophy he wants.

People like Nesta, Passarella, Matthaus all were speaking in a talk show the other day. They all agreed on the fact that this is perhaps not even 50% of the real Messi that Brazil has seen so far. This is the perfect time for him to take it to the next level. Or perhaps the level above that.

The Netherlands semifinal is significant in a lot of ways. Firstly, a place in the final is at stake. We have never lost a world cup semifinal match, Sabella would want to keep that record going. Secondly, there's a whole lot of people saying out there that Netherlands are the first big team we are playing in Brazil. We can't lose this match for heaven's sake. Thirdly, the Golden Ball will be decided in this match. Lionel Messi or Arjen Robben, one of them will grab it. Every reason for Messi to feel that extra pinch of motivation.

like I said I understand your point of view, but I understand Maxi lopez´s point of view too.
I don´t think anybody is rooting for us the team to fail.
maybe there are some people who have a love/hate relationship with the team.
there are all kind of fans, we are different but at the end of the day we have a common goal.
my suggestion to those who don´t like posts that they think are negative--just SKIP them, dont read them.
I don´t read some posters here, I skip them.
I read this blog from the beginning, bigsoccer forum, xtratime.org, world cup blog, soccerpulse...
nothing anybody says gonna change what happens on the pitch, this is the arena where things get decided.
it would be boring if everybody would have the same opinion.

my opinion about the team is this, I criticized as much as I could mainly selections until the team got chosen, than I posted here a message that we should accept now and we should support the team.
am i happy with the player chosen, of course not, but I have to accept it.
am i happy with Sabella, of course not, but I accept him as our coach and support him.
am I happy with the way we are playing, of course not, but I accept it and support the team to death.
the remaining teams have also flaws as we do, of course we can win.
would I be happy if we win, of course, when we scored against Switzerland, I lost my voice screaming.
if we win I will not be a sore winner, I will just be happy and enjoy it, I don´t need recognition, and certainly I don´t need it from posters in a blog.

Thank you for knowing you, i respect you and all the posters, Hopefully we will celebrate after the final, and after the 2018 final, and after the 2022 final,...
Nice seeing an Albanian fan supporting Argentina.

Since the Nigeria game, all I hear the critic say is that Argentina will not defeat Switzerland because Shagiri will shred our defense, ok that didn't happen..Now to the QF, they all said Argentina couldn't beat a world class team in Belgium, and we did pretty comfortable, even with a 1 - 0 scoreline..Now its the Netherlands who will be Argentina first ''world class match up'' again this is nonsense..Since the game against Spain, Holland have not been that great, they only could manage to score against Mexico in the 70 plus minutes a game they struggled in for most of the time..Holland also couldn't score against Costa Rica in Normal time, better yet they fail to score in 120 minutes..What I have notice is Van Persie have ran out of gas, he was poor in his last two games for Holland..Belgium is a better all round team than Holland, so quit with this Argentina will play against a real team, no, Argentina will be playing against a player like Robben for the first time in this tournament, that's about it..I'm humble and grounded all the time but I have to say this, ARGENTINA IS A BETTER TEAM THAN HOLLAND, no beating around the bush..CR took Holland to PK and some folks acting as if it some great tactical victory for Van Gaal..

Remember this, the game against Switzerland will be Argentina toughest game at this world cup, just watch and see..Same as how France vs Paraguay was the toughest game for them in the 2nd round back in 98..Turkey at the semis was Brazil toughest game...Australia in the 2nd round was Italy toughest game back in 2006..Paraguay in the QF was Spain toughest game at the 2010 world cup..

If some guys want to talk about the easiest route then go back to the world cup back in 2002..Brazil played only two so call ''world class team'' on their journey to the title, and they were England (QF) and Germany (final..

Father forgive me to say this, but I think there are some sick people on this forum...

@ Ghostdeini.

I was rooting for Argentina when I was 6 years old (do you remember the Butrinti black and white TV, if you are now at least 30 years old like me) and do root now the same way I did back then.

I tell you something: Since Argentina is not our national team, as our football sucks, why do we support other countries' teams? Is that because our national team sucks? Is that because we are unpatriotic? No, it's only because for a given reason in our lives, depending on the input and cirmustances, we got to support a foreign team. It's like you love the girl you want, not the girl the others tell you is best for you.

And you know well how that is valid for our nation... People raising foreign flags when the tewams they supoport wins, or in 1997 shooting with rifles in the air... Craziness...

I explained many times why I became an Argentina fan. It was because of Maaradona. I was alone in the room, a six years old boy, turned on the black and white TV and tuned it to the match... I will not forget that short and bulky guy with curly hair, cruying like a child when they lost for a non existant penallty shot. I did not know who that guy was. I came to know later on, that the guy was called "The God of football".

It continued in 1994... delusion, 1998, delusion, 2002, delusion, 2006 delusion, 2010, complete delusion and embarrasment... The God of Football was nothing outside the green pitch.

But my faith continued intact, in fact I can say that it was like the Arab Fenix, rise from the ashes.

I hate AFA, I hate Julio Grondona. Argentina lost creams of players because of their filthy politics.

I do accept that nobody is perfect and Argentina way from that. Argentina now is an average team, who, because of "supernaturtal?" circumstances got where it came now. But which present team is perfect? Please name me one, then I will completely change my opinion.

I can accept grey zones, but I cannot accept black zones, and for this I am damned proud. Aren't we supposed to be one body? I cannot accept baseless insults, I cannot accept hypocrisy. I aknowledge that our team lacks of many features, but there is no need to deride and insult our players or coach because of that. You know, if we were supposed to lead the team in a consortium, would we find the common voice and strategy? Hell no. We would end up insulting each other, it's a matter of fact and this hurts me a lot. This is why there is one coach... You know that in our country we have a saying that if translates to English, goes like: "As a 100 people and do as you know it to do".

Why do you deride and insult players? We are afraid to lose? There is no place in a footballing fan head, which labels as "cowardness". Either you suppor the team, no matter how it goes, or you don't... Cowards don't have a place in the supporting ensamble. Sorry, I know, I am of the old "Hooligan" mentality, except that I hate violence.

You can always state your opinion, but do not deride or insult the team. What is the purpose? Are you getting a place as a manager? If AFA calls you, hats off, otherwise shut up. One great man, who some call Lord Jesus said: "Thou without sins, throwest the first stone"...

We come to this blog to enjoy and share our supporting ferelings, but not to hear whinings, cryings and complaints. We have goal.com for that, or the Maxi Lopez ex-blog.

We all have things to do in life, but once in 4 yearrs we come back from normal life and go into euphoria. I don't take drugs, Argentina is my drug.

I am coing near to enjoy my long craved for dream, enjoying the finals. And this dream is to become true. So stop "insulting and deriding the team". Let us as fans enjoy what is left. We certainly can argue, but do not insult...

Peace and love.

My dream is near to become true.

p.s.: Yes, I am from Shkoder.

thinking your the smartest coach in existence or rooting for a loss and out the cup isnt in anyway being a fan, supporter of any kind that doesnt mean that those sore loosers who cannot see fault are any better

my gripe is the maxi lopez's of this world are not pointing out weaknessess there obsessing over MEANINGLESS BULL, its a weird nasty hatful type of following

sabella knows old school hard nosed football with great players wins things ,no team has never won a world cup playing only the out n out counter attacking we had in the QOLS ,every team this world cup has players playing the moden game and coaches of the moden game

and lots of ways to play like park the bus , counter , cheating , sabella set us up in a old fashioned way that no one expected in a wzy his doing what greece do but with better players and attackers

his also helping messi become a much better player his not only a barca boy and ping the ball at me as i run thru and look amazing ,his becoming complete like DIEGO WAS he will never be truly complete

that takes messi dna and mascharano dna blended together messi doesnt have that leadership masch provides it

maradona had it ,but he can become so much more rounded and experienced and become a better deeper player as he ages

@di3z_dion
you have to accept not every body roots the same way as you do.
from your posts, I got the impression that you are a real fan, but you forget that nobody is perfect, you think Argentina is perfect, if Argentina puts Albert Einstein(if living) in the starting 11 you would say he is the best player, that is not true he probably would suck at football.
that is how far your bias goes.
I love your unconditional support for Argentina but not everything is black or white, enter the grey area my friend.
I don´t want to argue with you, have better things to do, in the end of the day we are on the same team, we all want Argentina to win, we just cope different with it.
My friend Rune is always pessimistic, he posts here, but be sure he loves the team so much that he doesnt bare the team losing so he is afraid the the team loses.
Maxi lopez, is e perfectionist, he doesnt want to rely on luck, he wants always to get better, we win 100-0 he wants to win 200-0, what is wrong with this?
at the end of the day we are here because we love the team, and have a common goal.

@Ghostdeini, Nobody loves Argentina more or less, we all love it at the same way.

Maxi Lopez is like the child who keeps whining and crying until it gets that craved sweet or cookie.

I was in the stadium in 2006, nobody like me understands how is like to lose there in the stadium, after a beautiful lead.

Why did it happen? Well, you cannot blame Klose, he hurt our goalkeeper, but it was all about PeckerQuartefinalsmann we lost. You are a biased fan if you don't admit that.

Sabella at the first shot went further than Peckermann two times, with two different teams, did.

If a team was lucky in the match Argentina vs Belgium. It was Belgium. They could have conceded at least 3 goals. Argentina did not depend on luck in that match.

After the celebrations we need to have another look at the match at Belgium and continue what went well and learn from our mistakes.
Continue:
• Defense was solid and prevented almost all attempts. Keep this line-up.
• Midfield finally clicked and provided good support for defense. Midfield and defense lines were only ten metres apart. Sabella likes to defend deep. Keep this line-up.
• Movement upfront. Higuain moved a lot and that created room for passes and for Messi to dribble. Lavezzi and Higuain should continue their performance.

Improve
• Surge forward when counter chances arise. Example in minute 43 there was an ideal chance for a counter. Messi had the ball, but nobody ran forward. Maybe a lack of fitness? Other explanations? Anyone?
• Keep possession in the last 20 minutes. Defense was kicking the ball forward every time giving away possession and allowing Belgium to play the long ball again and again.

I as an Argentine fan would have loved if we played beautiful football an won, but as we know our team faces great obstacles from within, 2006 will haunt me all my life, but would be extremely happy if we win, it looks like we are destined to win.
Thanks for the clip, it made me emotional.

Sabella have an option with his starting XI now, and hopefully Kun can be played, players performance overall was much better until the last quarter, don't be too panic.

Di María is out for rest of WC is not in fact confirmation. Media rumors. Confirmation can only come from ARG medical dept.

Diego Milito:

"It’s well known that Netherlands have impressive attacking power – Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie; but it was the same with Belgium. I think Netherlands are a team that I had predicted could be a big surprise and in fact I’ve not been wrong so far.

Robben is an impressive player, a devastating one. Netherlands will be difficult. They’re a team who spent the last four years doing a great job.

They have already reached the final in previous World Cups, and they’re a team who have, in addition to a great coach, great players. They can make the difference and win the game at any time.

A semi-final against Holland is a tough match – but it could have been worse. But Argentina have had very positive results so far and I have a lot of faith in this team.

Surprises in this tournament? In fact, not many. Colombia: James Rodriguez. I expected that would be his last game (vs Brazil), but they’re a great team and they have young and exciting players.

Besides that, surprises? No, there are the usual teams; Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands …"

Hoping for some positive news on Di Maria... Sabella will confirm it today, if the rumors are true or not...

Di Maria will be a huge loss... Against the dutch...

But i think we have a fine replacement for him, in Ricky. Ricky is a tireless worker. Tremendous athleticism as well. He could play CAM CM or LW.

I think he all get the nod and then get replaced by enzo if we have a lead or maxi if we need more scoring options.

Tricky Ricky will play his heart out! I remember he came in for Di Maria against Italy last year and played really well.

I think he played a full match against ecuador in that friendly as well...

I dont understand some people here in this blog, instead of being happy we won, they are busy porking their nose where does not fit, since they know better than sabella. This world cup has been the most competetive and attractive ever, every big team have struggled crashing smaller teams, even we saw it yesterday when minor costa rica had to take holland into extra time with so called louis van gaal, the best tactian or coach. We displayed totall football during the qualification but the way people expected the same is not possible due to some tactical aproach to every game.

I have to disagree with alot of posts here. Sabella made 3 changes for the game and they all paid off. His subs were tactical and did a good job.

He brought in Demi who did better than FF. Biglia was the difference in midfield in place of Gago and Basanta did well in place of Rojo so what else are people asking for?

Thrashing teams 3-0 and 4-0 is not easy and unrealistic. If Higuain scores his solo then the game opens up and we could win 3-0. Remember we missed so many chances which kept the game close but in reality Belguim couldnt create anything and credit Sabella for that.

Yea ill disagree with some of his selections but every coach will select some players that ill disagree with and Pekerman/Maradona did so.

Credit the coach hes made the necessary changes from game to game and they've worked.

@ Maxi Lopez: Really dude? Is that constructive opinion? It does not seem like that at all.

Since 2006... well dude, your fixation for QuarterPeckerfinalsmann did not help us, but on the other side, it made us increase the adversity against you.

Let's deal with PeckerQFmann... What did he win? Ok, 3 throphies with the youth team. So what? Also Batista did that. We saw PeckerQFmann that he failed two times, with two different teams, to go past the QF.

Why is that? Because he is not lucky? No dude, he is a brilliant coach, but he is too conservative, way out Sabella.

Please compare PeckerQFmann with Sabella reading through the matches and making the correct substitutions. Does that recall something to you? Oh yes, I think it does. I was in Germany in 2006, I cried like a child... PeckerQFmann did the same mistake in the game against Brazil, he failed to place Guarin at his natural position...

Germany played a wonderful football since 2006, but they failed to deliver results. Now they understood that and started to play differently. I know, they always reached the semis, but this year I don't see that hunger to score more they had in the previous championships. They score and then they want to keep the match as it is, without changing its pace, whereas before they used every counter to be able to score.

Dude, you know something, luck helps always the bravest. Luck is an non existen term the human being invented to describe and hope for the future. But we create our luck, fortune, not the reverse side.

I do not understand your loathing for Sabella, but he fixed our problems, which, after 2010 and 2011 were so freaking obvious. I know, we are Argentina and we need to win every match by a large number of goals.

But dude, sorry for saying this, you live in the past. Football has changed and now there are not players who can win matches single-handedly. Now it is all about lungs, physics, muscles and run run run.

Jorge Valdano once said: "Now we use to ask our players why didn't they run to cater for their low technique". Now players run, run as mad, even though they might be bad...

You know, defenses can win championships, dude. Time have changed brother, engrave this in your mind.

We Arentinian fans can accept constructive criticism, but not loathing and insults to our players and manager. One, like dammage7, even said "bye bye Argentina with Netherland". Really? Can we call this a fan?

You said that some of us are even not from footballing nations? So what? I enjoy football to the extent that when I meet Americans and they utter "soccer", I reply "it's football, you freaks". Not being from footballing nations it does not mean that our passion is not there. We all played football, when we were kids, sometimes in fields not with grass, but with gravel and broken pieces of glass. And you know what? Our port was made of two stones or wall bricks. Every freaking summer my elbows and knees were torn, bleeding and when we went home to have our parents consolation, we got other beatings and shoutings not to go and play any more.

Who are you to judge us then? With what title and what experience? Are you a PeckerQFmann parent? Or did Sabella do any wrong to you personally?

Dude, I became an Argie fan because the first football match I remember is the final Italy 1990, I was 6 years old. I lived in Germany for such as long time, speak their language, understand their culture, but I cannot help to treason my first love.

Dude, you ruined a blog with your loathings against the current Argentina. Do you seriously want to ruin this one too? Please, keep your loathings and venom for yourself... That's from my side.

I'm glad we won but have to agree with almost everything 'Maxi Lopez' said.

We made the semis finally for the first time since 1990 but:
a) This is our worst team since the 1982 WC (performance wise)
b) We had an easy path to the semis
c) Making the semis was expected given our path here.

Unfortunately we have played poor throughout the tournament and I pin the blame on Sabella's shoulders. His tactics, selections, subs have all left a lot to be desired and I'd go as far as saying we were a better team under coach Maradona. Luckily yesterday we went up against an equally incompetent coach in Wilmots of Belgium who for some reason thought it was a good idea to have Belgium playing attacking and open football against us.

Against the Netherlands we will not only be playing our first world class opponent of the tournament, but our defence will be tested against 3 very good attackers (Robben, RVP, Sneijder) and our team will have to outwit one of the greatest manager's of all time in Louis van Gaal. I do not think Sabella has what it takes to outwit a donkey, nevermind van Gaal so I can only hope we score first vs the Netherlands and then park the bus.

BTW, Higuain, despite his goal should not even be starting for us. He is overweight and has been in poor form all tournament. Yesterday he was so out of gas by the 60th minute that there was this one play where Lavezzi cut in from the right and Higuain could not do more than just casually walk his way up the pitch even though Lavezzi was desperately looking for someone in the middle to pass it to. In Higuain we have a clear minus one who holds the rest of the attack back. Unfortunately we must rely on him against the Netherlands in the absence of any other alternatives.

Argentina is semi-final, like expected.
There are 2 ways of winning in futbol:

1) Posesion futbol: use your talent thanks to creativity and an excellent versatile system, and destroy any opponent.
2) Defensive futbol: do what any ordinary team in the world does and hope for luck.

To achieve success, you need a coaching staff that has:

a) A long-term view, plan, project
b) Excellent tactical skills and perfect knowledge of the strengths/weaknesses of ALL of the players
c) Human and convincing abilities

For 2014, AFA has chosen 2) and we never had a coach with c) and certainly not a) or b) since 2006.

When you have a coaching staff that makes all the possible mistakes, then the players have to do the job. That’s what happened in 2008, 2010 and now 2014.

But 2014 seems different, so far. We are an inferior team than in 2002, 2006 and even 2010 and we are in semis, so something has changed. What is it?

I call it “destiny”. We have luck on our side, in all aspects.

1) Our path in this WC has been easy (FIFA wanted Switzerland in 1/8). The players have improvised, and with hunger and individual talent, it worked.
2) Some of you will scream I know: after terrible coaching mistakes in the first round, the players have taken the keys of the locker-room and used a kamikaze 4-3-3. The fact is that Aguero and Di Maria, who were exposing us a lot, got injured at the best possible moment of the competition, which forced us to make changes at the best moment possible of the games. That FORCED us to use 4-4-2, the most efficient system when you must improvise something and when you’re unprepared. I know a lot of people won’t agree but think about it: what if Maradona used a defensive 4-4-2 against Germany 2010? What if Tevez got injured? We need destiny to force Sabella to make the appropriate changes.
3) The FIFA referees are not killing us like they used to since the Maradona era (1990). A huge difference.
I’ve always said since 2006 that if Argentina defends with 8+ players, no one can stop us. Our grinta makes us similar to Uruguay now. Pretty balanced. That is why you are like me, ALFIO, you want 4-2-2 because you know it.

The problem is that we’re highly depending on luck now. Without it, we’re in trouble. But only 2 games remain.

We’ll see what happens against Holland.
How will we behave if they score first???
Will luck be enough???
Can Messi or Higuain save us alone???

Argentina should be destroying any opponent and reigning with 3-0 victories at each game since 2006. AFA has decided to make us play like Uruguay.

I know how things work on this forum. The love for the albiceleste is religious here. If people criticize with constructive thoughts, the result is the same, you become un-patriotic. That’s a pathetic behavior. People criticize because they love Argentina. No offence to anyone here but you guys are not Argentineans. Most of you guys are not even from countries of futbol. There is no shame to be a gringo. There is no shame to know nothing about tactics because that’s not gonna earn your living. Just acknowledge the basics.

Acknowledge that no other futbol association has been more destructive that AFA, and despite all the corruption and clowns managing the team, we’re still here.

All we can do now is jump and sing with el Kun and everyone…

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=694354180602233

"Brasil, decime qué se siente tener en casa a tu papá.
Te juro que aunque pasen los años, nunca nos vamos a olvidar... Que el Diego te gambeteó, que Canni te vacunó, que estás llorando desde Italia hasta hoy.

Release..Relief.. what a day after such a long wait..
Even if we fail to make to finals, there won't be much sadness now as our goal is reached. At least both the team and fans can sleep with calm and peace as we are one of the top four teams.

But at the same time the team should not carry this mentality and relax too much as we got a golden chance. Just two games. The same dedication and concentration. Much of the pressure is off. Even if we finish as fourth after losing the third/fourth match, our fans will be happy as they knew that they are one among the four best teams and a semi-finalists after a long long time.

So don't lose the focus. With Maria going out, we need to be more calm and focus as we did against Belgium.

For Messi, play two more beautiful games as you are the one who is largely responsible for breaking that quarter-final curse and crossing our team to the box of best four. Play the beautiful game beautifully and without any pressure. At the moment there is no need to rely on results. Our goal is reached.

Just enjoy the moment and do the things peacefully..

We have improved a lot by game by game. I am not much worried about Robben as he always run with the ball and he will mess up with difender at last and he will lose the ball, i think Rojo can shut him and if we play like yesterday, i am sure 100% we will be there in Final....

Vamos Argentina..... !!!!!!!!

we are in Semi Final we all are very glad.. but same time very disappointed to hear that Di Maria is out...

I noticed something like when Maria was there on the pitch, Messi was playing and attacking well but as soon as Maria off to benj, Messi was not attacking and he was holding the ball for some time..
I realy hope Maria will make it semi with Aguero...

Di Maria status has not confirmed at all. I still hope that he can make it. At least for one half and then must be subbed.

I don't think that he can make it for the whole match, knowing what his duties are and how he runs, but he is a warrior, he will make it somehow.

Yes, what a wonderful win, but alas, it's confirmed that Di Maria has a muscle tear in his thigh and most definitely out of the world cup. The worry and the anxiety now returns as to who will fill his place… Why, oh why?

We proved that we can play a good defence not only in 3-5-2.

All in all, it was a very good display of mixing defence and attacking football. Messi proved to be selfish sometimes yesterday, but he defended and recovered many balls.

We are blessed to have a warrior like Mascherano. I was afraid that he would commit faults and get a yellow card, but he proved to be very smart.

I am extremely sorry for our Angel, we need two players to make half od him... Anyway we will win the next match and it will be dedicated to him.

We got Rojo back and Basanta played awesomely, not allowing the tall Belgians to kick the ball.

What can I say about Romero... He proved us all wrong. Keep it up Sergio...

I am also extremely happy that Pipita unblocked and unleashed himself, not only scoring the match goal, but also helping in defense, on the wings and tracking balls.

I am extremely confident that we cam make it to the finals, after seeing how the Dutch played yesterday. There is no favorite in the next match, but we can make it.

Dale Argentina, we keep our finger crossed.
