Alejandro SABELLA's press conference

Alejandro SABELLA held a press conference where he spoke about the team. While not confirming a 4-3-3, it does look like the formation the team will be playing. Here's what he had to say:

"I have the team in my head but I can't confirm it. I haven't told the players yet. Often times, the judgements have to do with the result of a match. If you win, you're great and if you lose, you've done nothing."

"MESSI's been able to do what he's done due to the work of the team. PALACIO stole the ball and gave it to him. If PALACIO hadn't been there, it would have been a Swiss attack. But he was, and we scored. It's about managing space."

"If you put a midfielder there just to help out the fuill back it doesn't work as then he doesn't attack (as much)."

"AGUERO is getting better. We're going to see how he does today to decide whether he'll be on the bench."

@ Pablo d Sir, its a long time after New Zealand has batsmen like Kane-Ross-Neesham-Watling-Latham in their ranks, its a whole new era for New Zealand cricket, btw I am extremely sorry for my off topic post, I just can't pass my seconds at the moment and watching instead Williamson s batting.

Arglover:good sir
hes a useful right handed batsman, young at 23 I think.
I always think its best to judge in 2-3 years time but after his 7th test ton he is really one to watch.

Haha True that AbNormalOne! Angel needs to turn it on and give us an oscar nominated performance!

I get very annoyed about precisely that with the Brazilian players. All these guys act so innocent, with wide puppy-dog eyes to plead with the refs and the mainstream media. But they commit all tactical and cynical fouls just like any other team (Sometimes even more). Thiago Silva blocking Ospina's goal kick is just one such example from so many yesterday. And yet, other teams get a bad rap, and Brazil gets a free pass!

@TheVickerman: I think Angel can help us in the Brazil tactical foul situation. He needs to roll 3 times more for every foul and teach his teammates how it's done...
Too bad we don't have Busquests,Neymar,Iniesta,Alves...etc in our team!!!

TheAbNormalOne - It's all good bro! I was just kidding about it :-) . And hell, when Messi , Di Maria and company truly turn on the style, we ALL ARE LITTLE GIRLS in awe of them !

Pablo.d - How are you doing down under sir? My quick thoughts : I think it was a dramatic game to watch , marred by bad officiating. 54+ fouls completely disrupts the flow of the game. Brazil made sure Rodriguez and Cuadrado never got into any rhythm in the 1st half. Cuadrado wasn't good enough to recover from it, and had a poor game the rest of the way.
Neymar and Thiago Silva lose out on the SF appearance, but you know what? In my opinion , it wouldn't matter even if they had played. :-) Ze Zerman Panzer will roll over them and crush 3 million yellow hearts!

your thoughts on the yellow teams loss of their 2 key players.
my self its a big loss for them but as they always seem to have the luck of the devil I would not put it past them to scrape 1-0 over the germans but if I was a betting man id say all bets are off as this is a hard one to pick.

I want to be a little girl again. Please don't bash me for putting a XI...
My XI if I was the coach:
Romero(No other way)
Zabaleta-Federico-Garray-Basanta
------Mascherano----Gago-------
Lavezzi---------Ricky---------Angel
-------------------Messi------------
**And I will insist Lavezzi and Angel to stay as close as possible to the touchline.
**Messi will be happy with the company(Ricky) he got centre.Angel and Ricky to provide the one-twos.
**Angel and Lavezzi to pick up delicious throughballs from Messi
**Biglia and Mascherano with tight protection.
**Lavezzi helping Zabaleta in dealing Hazard.
**Di Maria and Lavezzi interchanges their wing often to make the man marking impossible.
** Ricky Providing height while attacking and grabbing attention from 2 CDMs and CB pairings.
**Messi got Lavezzi & Angel on either sides and Ricky along
**8 minimum to defend and 4 minimum to attack.
**In case of ultra defensive substitution: bring on Demi as a CDM or sweeper,,Perez for Biglia and Maxi for Lavezzi.
** In moderate situation,Bring Perez,Agusto,Kun or Higuain.
**In attacking substitution add Kun,Agueo or Palacio.

Thank god I'm not the coach.May Sabella do his job

i have a feeling it's going to be a massacre tomorrow against belgium.

it's good rojo gets a rest and comes back fresh if argentina wins.

dimaria has to play smart football and not pick up another yellow.

he'll miss the semi-finals if he does and argentina wins.

hopefully no "rest" subs unless argentina is up 3-4 goals.

Someone (like the user Chalz) got offendended that I called Peckermann as ovverated? Well boys, don't get offended. When you bring the discourse of Sabella not having a clue while reading the match, kindly resee Swiss game. He brought in Palacio, who stole the ball, to pass it to Messi and to the Angel then.

Besides, Peckermann is at his second trial, and he didn't go past the QF, thing which Sabella did at the first shot.

I might be no one to comment on Peckermann, but if you consider his trophies, who many are they? I cannot recall them...

I am saying this all for you guys to stop critisizing Sabella.

robby savage wales player on bbc tv if i was messi id ask higuain to pull his finger out and do something

as im talking about robby savage i have two true storys about him,im from leicester city ,years ago robby played for leicester a guy i new at the time was a car thief, one night out stealing car stereos this guy had the cops chasing him he hid in a garden to a house on a posh housing estate in glenfield leicester he hid his bag of car stereo units under a bush

he looked thru the window it was robby savages house it was late on a saturday night

robby savage was on a reclining leather chair with his pants down wanking to the adult channel on sky tv with a half eaten takeaway meal next to him TRUE STORY....

right on another night out stealing this guy went to hide his stash near robby savages house and robbys front door was open robby savage was on the hall way floor drunk asleep this guy nd his mates emptied robys pockets of cash and pulled his trousers down and ran away

THESE ARE TRUE STORYS ...

thirdly the same guy a whike later was pulling out of a side street on to dominion road a road that led to glenfield as he pulled out he seen a freind crossing the street so papped his horn and shouted and waved

robby sabage was on the main road in his porsche or whatever it was and thought he was waving at him because he was a footballer

and started waving back the guy i know shouted I WASNT WAVING AT YOU ROBBY YOU CRAP CUNT AND I SEEN YOU WANKING OFF TO SOFT PORN IN YOUR HOUSE

Greetings everyone,

I am really hoping we will end our quarter final drought tomorrow! We are more than capable of it!

Sabella must exploit a lot of the weakness of this Belgium side. He is known to be a tactical mind, and it is time to flex those muscles.

During the USA vs Belgium game, I noticed almost all the USA attacks came from the Left side of the pitch & some from the middle! Fabian Johnson was running the right side flanks really well... and when he got injured... Klinsman replaced him with another fast and pacey defender... he too ran them wild and easily was beating Vertonghen!

Remember, Belgium plays with 4 center backs and their flanks could be exploited! The best way to keep hazard at bay is by making him cover for those defenders.

Now, from my observation almost all Di Marias goals for Real Madrid comes from the right side of the pitch... and a lot of his assists come from the left side of the pitch.

When Dimaria scored against Switzerland, it too came from the right side! Since he is a lefty, it is easier to score from the right side, and easier to cross/assist from the left...

Now, Messi is great at picking a part defenses with his passes, when wide players are moving for him, and cutting for him...

So i was thinking... If I was sabella, I need to be really sound defensively but opportunistic offensively as well...

Since the Belgium's will have their usual 4 center backs... & 5 mids in front of them and one striker up top with their 4-2-3-1 formation,

I would play a 4-4-2...

---------------Romero---------------

--Zaba----FF/Dem----Garay----Basta---

--DiMaria---Biglia---Masch--Lavezzi/palci-

--------Messi--------Hig/palacio-------

This really could also turn into a 4-2-2-2

--Zaba----FF/Dem----Garay----Basta---

------------Biglia---Masch------------

--DiMaria-------------Lavezzi/palacio---

--------Messi--------Higuain---------

or even a 4-2-3-1, by sliding Messi in the middle between Di Maria and Lavezzi!

This allows us to be solid defensively, give messi some width to make his deadly passes (Di Maria and Levezzi would provide that)

at the same time, di maria and Messi could play close to each other. I think one of the problem is, messi and di maria are too far from each other.

Second half, bring in palacio...

I strongly believe from here on out... Messi needs to assist more than score.

sorry for the long post! Vamos Argentina!

I cant understand wat de hell is sab seeing in gago still... Add ricky or maxi in that position can improve attacking wise, or bring in biglia or enzo can make defensively strong, but this crap is adding nothing to de team other than holding up de play n reducing de pace.... Bloody beggar.....

I personally feel we need 3 attacking minded mids, which allows masche to stay deep n concentrate fully on defense... May be 3 men defence with him n 2 CBs n 5 men mid with full backs n messi n someone else upfront as 2 strikers while attacking... Ricky, enzo, augusto all can give a very good contribution to our game...

Finally comes that stage of the world cup where big teams win. Germany crowded the midfield, had no impact inside the box and still went through. Brazil ran and ran and ran with full passion and brainless legs, and here they are in the semis as well.

Over to you, Sabella. Play like a big team tomorrow. Don't play a 5-3-2 like small teams, don't also play an extreme attack like Colombia did. Play mature football and get through with minimum fuss. Please.

This is no secret that the referees will be always soft on home teams at WC. How did Julio Cesar not get a RED ? How did Fernandinho escape with out yellow after his dirty works..? How did referee not see acting and divings of Brazilians players..?

Pekerman didn't make any tactical mistake like 2006 but instead he made a bigger mistake by not preparing his players Psychologically to tackle Brazil... You don't beat Brazil in their own soil by just playing pretty,, you've got to show nerves of steel and high mental strength to do that... colombian players played without any passion and fierceness and so was outplayed until they got scored through the penalty.. By the time they woke up,, it was too late..

Brazil vs Germany is the most classic match of any WC.. but this time,, Thiago Silva's absence will really hurt Brazil...

sabella learned a lot from old school english managers and he was a old school hard case himself in the 80s he must have errections when watching mascharano play

sabella is a expert of disruptive hard italian 1970s english grit football and protecting the teams star playersso they can do something

i think he will try have both messi and dimaria shine tomorrow and mascharano disrupt belgiums flow if demi plays at the back are attacks from defence will have more finesse

I hope Sabella and rest of the team are up for it tomorrow and for the rest of the tournament. .i have a feeling that tomorrow the team will come out swinging in every aspect. .This Brazil team doesn't scare a bit after, this Cup is out there for one team to step up and take ..Vamos Argentina !!!!

MoonBear - completely second your point man. Brazil has been doing this for the last decade pretty effectively. Once they take a lead, they keep disrupting the flow against such teams to make sure they never get into rhythm. Makes it terrible to watch. Of course, in the eyes of the mainstream media, it never is mentioned because , well, they are brazil.

As if that's not frustrating enough…we can't get our freakin' Forwards to score and Brazil just went to the semi-finals with both of their CBs scoring goals! Hard to swallow that besides Messi, the Brazil Central Defenders have three times as many goals as ALL of our forwards COMBINED. I hate Brazil. Ok end of rant.

Vamos Albiceleste! Make us proud tomorrow!

All this praise on Perkeman about how he's playing the BEST football at the world cup..Playing pretty football does not win you a world cup in modern times..Germany and Brazil struggled in the round of 16 and they best the two teams who were arguably better in the round of 16 Colombia and France.

I told you guys Sabella went for the old school Italian playbook for this world cup..As long as Argentina win the world cup, I don't care how we win games on our way..If we win the world cup nobody will talk about how we defeat Swiss in 118 minutes..Nobody talks about Spain first game defeat to Switzerland back in 2010, all we hear is that Spain are the world cup winners.

Argh! Brazil is this annoying friggin mosquito that refuse to go away. Credit to them, they just seem to get things right during such big occasions. It's almost irritating how things work out for them , little things go unpunished , but still I guess it is what it is.

Nice touch there by David Luiz at the end - consoling Rodriguez and also asking the crowd to acknowledge Rodriguez's impact in this world cup. I hate David Luiz for his theatrics, but that was a good touch, and a great free kick.

Great run in this world cup for the young Columbian team. Their lack of experience showed a little I think, where they left it too late to go all out and show a sense of purpose. Pekerman did what he could with the team, but I felt he could have exploited Maicon's wing a bit more. Unfortunately, Cuadrado wasn't effective at all in this game, and apparently Jackson Martinez wasn't fit for the game either (which led to No.14 starting it- that dude was horrific, almost fred-like :) ) . In Rodriguez, Cuadrado, Quintero, Falco, Martinez, they have a pretty strong foundation to continue building on !

peckerman is a bottler in the confed final argentina playing the same way with tweeks would have steam rolled brazil but NONONO he had to change to some weird 532-352 formation with sorin as a dm

and the players didnt have a clue what to do and brazil steam rolled us THISIS MY PET HATE WITH ARGENTINA STOP DOING STUPID SHIT

DONT DO A PECKERMAN

DONT BRING DOWN RONALDO 3 TIMES AND HAVE A HATRICK OF PENOS SCORED AGAINST YOU

DONT MISS A HATRICK OF PENOS

DONT GET TURNED INSIDE OUT BY DENNIS BERKAMP ITS THIS MENTAL BLOCK AT TIMES THAT STOPS ARGENTINA FROM WINNING EVERYTHING

It is so frustrating watching Brazil and their tactical fouling strategy. They committed 31 fouls and ONLY had 2 yellows to show for it. One of the yellow's should have been a red on Cesar and the other yellow was for disrupting a goalie kick…not a typical fouls. So basically 29 fouls went unpunished. WOW!

After world cup draw out..neutral fans in the world predicted Semi Final line up:

Germany Vs Brazil
Spain Vs Argentina

But after the first match...they said it is Netherlands instead of Spain. Everything goes finally as expected..?
Argentina and Netherlands will make it into Semi tomorrow..?

If Colombia was a better technical team they would have defeat Brazil today..Chile and Mexico are great technically, Colombia needed this aspect of there game to best Brazil..Brazil struggled against all the technical teams thus far include Croatia..Germany will give them headache..Neymar injury seems serious, it maybe a spinal injury, don't think he will recover in time for the semis..

I think we are the only team that doesn't flop around left idk about Costa Rica...brazil without thiago silva and possibly an injured Neymar will tip in Germany's favor unless FIFA wants Brazil in the Final. We need to beat Belgium now :) revenge of 1990 and last 2 worldcup.
