Throwback: Argentina vs. Belgium
Just like we have done in previous articles, this time we will look back at the two previous meetings between Argentina and Belgium at the World Cup, both involving the one and only Diego MARADONA.

First meeting happen in the 1982 World Cup, which happens to be the opening kickoff as Argentina arrived in Spain as the defending champion.

Having just completed a world record move to Barcelona, MARADONA (ironically the match was played at the Camp Nou) have finally arrived on the world biggest stage. As expected the Belgians put some extra attention on him right from the start.

Argentina had 9 players in the starting from the World Cup winning side (the exceptions was Diego and Ramon DIAZ). However the only goal of the match came from Erwin VANDENBERGH, resulting the first shock of the tournament. Argentina had plenty of chances but brilliant goalkeeping from Jean Marie PFAFF prevented us from scoring.

Four year later we meet again, this time in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. This time the stake was even higher, a place in the Final. The Belgians have once again became the surprise package of the tournament.

The Euro Red Devils had severa players from the one that beaten us at the Camp Nou with PFAFF back in goal plus there is also Eric GERETS, Frank VERCAUTEREN and Jan CEULEMAN plus VANDENBERGH was on the bench. Argentina only survivor from that starting 11 was Diego but Nery PUMPIDO, Julio OLARTICOECHEA and Jorge VOLDANO were on the bench back then.

This time the script was just too different as Diego scored two goals including another brilliant solo effort to ensure that Argentina will play in the Final and as you know the rest history.

So there you have it, two different matches against Belgium both involving Diego with two different outcomes and two different stories to tell.

Which one will it be the third time? I'm sure you all know my answer.

Sabella: "Aguero is quite well, we'll see how it responds and if you can go to the Bank against Belgium".

Sabella: "The group is well and has a sense of belonging. Four years ago criticising to Messi and now they say that we are dependent on the"

Sabella: "Pipita had a problem at the end of the season and could not train one hundred per cent. Against Switzerland was the most ran".

Sabella: "any team having a player like Messi will depend much on him, but it is also a work of all".

Sabella: "If Belgium has any flaw not i'm going to say it. In the first instance we have the way to play, but we have variants".

Sabella: "We will not deal with psychologists, we work in a different way. As the local, Brazil has more pressure".

Sabella saying he al ready has a team in his head but didn't tell the players yet, looks like he is gonna change some players, but I won't believe gago will be benched untill I see it

Based on what we have seen from Lavezzi, Palacio, Higuain and Aguero in the last few games, I have to admit Maxi is looking like a good option if deployed on the wing.

Maxi? I really don't think so... It would be bad move.

guled: Maxi played in South America for like 4 years now, I can assure you he's in better condition than a lot of these Belgian players for the game on Saturday..Going up and down the pitch is one thing, but if you don't have a head and your body then the point about going up and down the pitch is not relevant..Maxi played great in all the games under Sabella except the first world cup game, and you cant blame Maxi for Sabella formation..

Kid, can maxi track back and go up and down on the right side for his age, this is not the young maxi he is older now, I would prefer augusto if we have to use a right winger

Maxi long range is also a good one..This is a good move by Sabella..Di Maria and Maxi will always surprise with long range shots whenever the chance is presented to them..

The picture is extremely misleading - this is just when the Belgium players broke from the wall in front of a free kick. There is a similar picture of 6 Italian players surrounding Inesita which is equally misleading.

I predict a tight 1-0 victory in the extra time.

If that is our lineup, am worried about Maxi there.

guled: I disagree, although I like Maxi as a sub, as long as he's not playing centrally then he's good with me, you guys forgetting Maxi have a better goal scoring ration under Sabella than both Palacio and Lavezzi..With Maxi we have another scoring option on the field..

Good and balanced line up but I don't like maxi there , I don't know what he adds to the team he is older player, augusto would do better on the right

@John, what a nice open game in 86! This only shows how much harder it has been for Messi and how brilliant he actually is, having helped overcome 3 park the bus teams so far. It pisses me off to think that we will have to face 5-3-2 Netherlands or park the 747 Costa Rica next, should we pass this Belgian test.

Sabella finally realizing that gago can't make it v physical teams, biglia is improvement I prefer Perez but I don't mind biglia either, I hope he also adds Ricky a very technical and also physical player(he is 6.2 inch) so we can have solid midfield

And where will Demi find the speed to run fast? The problem is the midfield!!! GAGO is not upto the WC task. He's not bring the balls out, but on a Brazilian vacation. Campangnaro for FF.

Wilmots threatening that he will park the bus, I am surprised his foolishness , he doesn't have the players needed to do it and they never did before, he is also telling sabella to fix his team saying argentina is impalanced team, his mouth need to be shut

True. With icardi we'd actually get icardi + maxi Lopez + the chick. 3 for the price of one and icardi would be scoring off the pitch at least, even if not on it.
