Basanta For Rojo?

Various reports are confirming that one changes that is confirm by Alejandro SABELLA and that is Jose BASANTA will start against Belgium in place of the suspended Marcos ROJO.

Apparently BASANTA has been practicing one on one defense separately while the rest of the team was seen playing football tennis.

Meanwhile Kun AGÜERO was also seen doing some sparring training and his recovery is going great. Possible a bench player this weekend? We'll keep you posted.

@Dfox, agree and very thankful that the players can't hear any of the comments here. Also very happy that all the fans who are actually there in Brazil seem to be very supportive and enthusiastic.

To all others who feel depressed whenever they come to Mundo recently:
I always come to Mundo to find some news about the team and to see fellow fans' opinion and thinking. To share joy and sadness and support the team together. But recently I found some ppl consistently bashing the team and sound so arrogant to fellow fans who they consider as inferior in thinking or intelligence or knowledge about football. I watched the game live in the community club here in Singapore at 00.00 - 2.30 am while I need to go reach office at 7.30am the next day and only finished working at about 9pm the day before. But I enjoyed watching the game and could feel how the other fans were excited as well. We went back home after the game with big smile and happy feeling. I was quite shocked when the next day I read all comments here. Some ppl consistently saying things in the line of our team will lose the next game, and that Argentina is the worst team. Not all critics are bad, but from the comments I'm sure you know who actually hoping for a win and who actually hate this team. Not a single positive comments from "so called fans". I don't think I'm very regular, but I found some of the names were not familiar around the time between last WC until before this WC and start consistently basing the team from Bosnia game. And sadly, some of the familiar names are not active anymore..

Ok, from now on, I decide not to care about the opinion of the ppl who prefer to eat their own shit than seeing Arg lift the cup or who keep degrading the team and fans. I would say this kind of ppl are more likely to be Brazilian fans or Argentina haters. Just let them be. If Arg win, I wouldn't care about them. If Arg lose, I would already overwhelmed with sadness and wouldn't care when these ppl say "I've told you...". I suggest you to do the same. Ignore the comments that you don't like.

Guys, I have a feeling that AGUERO and HIGUAIN time is coming. Trust me, this team is coming with some big surprise in the next 2 games coming up. And I believe that when that time comes, no conspiracy cant hold US from winning this CUP.

Again guys, this is our time! No one can STOP US from taking this trophy home! Whether some of you believe it or not. THIS IS OUR TIMEEE!

People keep talking here that Maradona '86 was enough to gives us World Cup. It is not truth. Please dull witted and poorly educated peoples just watch the matches of Argentina in Mexico '86 in full and see how good team it was. Maradona didn't won World Cup alone and Messi will not. We need a team.

" i want to see aguero, messi, tevez aimar, all on the pitch together, running rings around players, smiling....laughing....i want to see their happy faces!!!

i dont think ive actually seen this happen yet.

To @San Isidro If you mean me When you write "so called fans" look on your own words:

"This will be another difficult match. (...)
I have serious reservations about this game. The oddsmakers have us favored to win this game. But our performance by Gago, Higuain and Aguero are awful. I don't really care if they are injured; if they made the 23 man squad they need to perform or admit they are injured so that the team can have different alternatives. It is pure selfishness to pretend you can play and lay that pile of turd Higuain and Aguero have laid. I hope it doesn't cost us, or that they wake up. At full strength, I would say we would destroy Belgium, but not is version thof Argentina.
Can any of you guys put my mind at ease as to why we will win????"

These are the same ideas as mine:
- defeatism of mood or just realism
- critic a few players our team (also Zabaleta in other place)
- at last: critic the whole team ("...but not this version of Argentina...").

It is really the same as in my critic. I am not criticising the whole team also. I am criticising Fernandez, Gago Higuain and, in some regard, Di Maria and Messi. But I believe that We can win with the new players (Palacio,Perez/Biglia,Basanta,Lavezzi,maybe Aguero)next game, at least. I have always thought Palacio,Perez and Basanta should play. Therefore is my critic Higuain,Gago,Fernandez when they plays so bad since Bosnia.

So, San Isidro, We are both "so called fans" or just realist.

its exact same tactics and problems we had 4 years ago

we are trying to fit square pegs in round holes by playin gplayers due to their name and not the best for those positions

i know higauin will start and so will gago. i actually expect same team aside from basanta

its the irony of having the best player on the planet in your team as its a blessing and a curse because every player and team wants to play like men possessed against him and us.

guys i have found this comunity yesterday and read most of the comments.outlaw is kinda right with his arguments.if you compare our team to germany/holland/colombia you have to admit our midfield seems clueless there is no cordination or no pace.but on the other hand we saw an argentina team which is willing to fight.the players ran their asses off against switzerland.
there is no easy game in this stage of the world cup and everything is possible and im pretty sure if belgium try to play offensive we will have our chances to win this game for sure.most of the opponents in this world cup didnt try to win the game against argentina they just wanted to keep the draw.only nigeria tried to give up the turtle tactic and we had our chances to score.

all in all dont bash on eachother for someone new like me its realy depressing to see you guys insult eachother instead of having some usefull conversations

i don't understand what everybody is complaining about.

they won 4 games in a row against oppositions that were playing like it's the world cup final.

even against brazil, teams aren't playing as motivated and defensive as they are against argentina.

the swiss manager is a brilliant football mind. he played nearly a perfect tactical game against argentina.

he was going for pentalties, and nearly made it.

people are saying messi is being marked by 4-5 players, well ask higuain and aguero how many were marking them.

the were being marked by 11 players parking the bus around them at all times.

messi was outside the penalty area and was being marked by midfielders.

all argentina has to do is score first to open up the game, and the floodgates will open.

as the opponents can't park the bus losing by a goal.

More the reason to ignore them.
I'm sure you're just as stressed about this WC as I am and there is no reason to make it worse.

Why worry about what somebody says when its only words!

We all waited for this WC to happen, watched every single qualifier or at least kept up with them, tried to watch every friendly, kept tabs on all ARGENTINA players, potential signings, possible future talents...........etc

Point is, we devoted a lot of time to this team and will always do no matter what happens.

Lets HOPE for the BEST and PRAY our dreams come true.

People in here and everywhere else can say whatever they want to say About ARGENTINA, I, you, nobody can do anything about it but then again NOBODY HERE can affect how ARG plays.

Everybody has an opinion and we cant all agree but you don't have to let it bother you either.

The players on the pitch will determine their fate and nobody else.

I don't really know what has happened to all the so called "fans" on this site.
It is ok to criticize a player or players but not the whole team. Here are some facts to chew on.

We won all 4 games
We dominated the Swiss for 100 minutes. Go through the match again if you have it recorded.
We have conceded 3 goals in 4 games
Messi is playing great
DiMaria is showing up
Nobody in the mainstream media is giving us a shot.
Teams are parking the bus and playing cautiously.
We have not played to our full potential
One more win and we are in the semifinals.

One game at a time. With some good play and good fortune, we can be in the semifinals, possibly playing Costa Rica. If we win this game do we still suck?

Beautiful football is not always winning football. Let's win this game and if it's ugly so be it.

Argentina needs to go with a 4-4-2

ROMERO
ZABA FERNANDEZ GARAY BASANTA

BIGLIA MACHE
GAGO DIMARIA
MESSI PALACIO

HIGUAIN HAS BEEN OFF FORM AND WAY TO SLOW AND WASTED OPPORTUNITIES HASNT SHOWN UP IN 4 GAMES NOW BIGLIA HAS BEEN GREAT IN MY EYES WHEN GIVEN OPPORTUNITIES TO RETAIN POSSESSION AND STOP COUNTERS MAYBE VS THE SWISS ARGENTINA DIDNT LOOK TOO GOOD WHEN HE WAS IN BUT THATS ABOUT IT VIVA ARGENTINA I BELIEVE IN YOU GUYS OUR NATIONAL TEAM HAS PLAYED LOUSY AND STILL IN THE QUARTER FINALS LETS WIN THIS THING

I remember having a really good feeling before the Germany game in 2010. I don't feel the same right now. I know that we aren't firing on all cylinders, but Belgium is totally beatable. I have confidence, not a crazy excited feeling, but a calm one that we will eventually succeed, even in overtime.

For those who still think 'Belgium is a top team and we may lose...'. I will just show you some facts. Belgium did not face the top teams recently. Since Marc Wilmots take over they met very few top teams...and see the result.

England 1 - Belgium 0
France 0 - Belgium 0
Colombia 2 - Belgium 0
Belgium 4 - Netherlands 2

They have just won one match against so called top(?) teams and lost 2 and drawn 1. Their win was against Netherlands when Netherlands was having a very bad period with just 3 victory, 6 lose and 1 draw in the last 10 matches. And Netherlands lose in that match was their 5th lose in a row..!!

This over hyped Belgium never competed against a real top team recently (Just before Marc Wilmots take over they lost to Germany 3-1). When they faced so called top teams..they failed. I don't see any reason to believe Belgium will defeat Argentina..!

And don't forget Belgium was there on the path of Argentina and Maradona when we won the cup in 1986..and now the history repeat on the path of Messi and Argentina..!

This is one site where we dreamt everything together. We monitored the ups and downs, the different players coming in and going out, we chatted and chatted over the qualifiers, we celebrated the December draw and we even played those stupid simulator games for fun. Trust me, Outlaw and people, if Argentina go out of the tournament, it would not be possible for us (who really thought Argentina will be world champions) to return here and engage in normal conversations all over again. We are too weak for that.

So there's no point wasting your time. You'll find nobody to listen to your 'See I told you guys' posts. I can guarantee that on behalf of all of us, stupid Argentina fans.

On the other hand, if Argentina progress further and make it big this time, we will make sure you guys have a hard time here in Mundo. Better you leave before that.

You see, I'm not underestimating Belgium my no means..But guys like outlaw and Dammage make it seems like Argentina is some reject team from the backwoods..They talk as if Belgium is the reigning world cup and Euro champions..Belgium squad just cannot be compare to Argentina, no matter how some people spin it..On the Argentina squad you're looking at players with a ton of Championship experience..

Messi: 3 UCL, U20, Olympic Gold,Copa final, Confed cup final you know the rest.

Mascherano: 1 UCL title with Barca and played in a UCL final with Liverpool, also 2 Olympic Gold medal, Copa final, Confed cup final, you know the rest.

Aguero: 1 UEFA cup title, 2 BPL titles, Olympic Gold and 2 U20 titles.

Zabaleta: CDR title with Esponyal, 2BPL titles, Olympic Gold.

Higuain: 3 titles with Real Madrid, plus won a title in his first season with Napoli.

Gago: 2 titles with Real Madrid

Lavezzi: Won Copa Italia with Napoli and 2 league titles with PSG.

Romero: Olympic Gold

Garay: Olympic Gold and tons of title with Benfica.

Fernandez: won the Copa Italia last season.

Demichelis: won a ton of league trophies with Bayern, played in a UCL final and he recently won the BPL title last season.

What I'm trying to say is that, Argentina team is full of experience players, most of our players have been playing at an high level for years now..Belgium team is young and excited but that wont be enough against a well oiled Argentina team..

Sorry to disappoint you Belgian fans here..

Belgium can be dangerous only when they are allowed to play their own game. I am sure Sabella realizes that. We have to keep control of the pace of the game. Keep them away from their English football. Frustrate them with possession. Remember these are all young players. Once they lose their rhythm, they don't have a leader to go to. Let's exploit that.

@Outlaw: weak matches? Before the USA game Belgium played 360 minutes scoring only 4 goals in total against South Korea, Algeria and Russia..

Lets get this straight..

Bosnia>>>>>> Russia

Nigeria>>>>> Algeria (Nigeria defeat them last year during the African nation cup)

Iran>>>>>>>>>>>> South Korea

Switzerland>>>>>>>>>>>>>USA

What week teams are you talking about?

Argentina played against; Brazil, Germany, Chile, Colombia, Bosnia twice, Switzerland twice, Italy etc under sabella..

Now who has really tested Belgium? Luxembourg before the world cup? Sweden? who they barely won against before the world cup. Scotland, Croatia, Serbia, wales, Estonia, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Armenia etc..These are the weak teams Belgium been racking up results against, they might not have played against all the teams I mention but I sure know you get the point.

The key to surviving the next two games will be pace and movement. When Argentina plays fast one touch football they can outplay every team because of their talent. When they play slow all opponents in the WC are given time to organise and stand firm. That is why Gago has to go to the bench. He runs with the balls, plays it wide or backwards and rarely forwards with one touch. He lacks match rhythym and fitness.

Someone pointed out that Higuain effectiveness depends on good passes and crosses. He received very few against the swiss. It must be frustrating for him. When he did get a good pass, the ball often bounced from his feet resulting in loss of possession. Again, a lack of match rhythym. Therefore Palacio should start.

Biglia knows belgian football better than anyone in the team and provides good support to defense. I would like to see him next to Masche and Perez.

I think we are gna start this game with 442 with Maxi, Biglia in for Gago, Demi in for FF and Palacio in for Higuain. But if things doesn work out as planned Sabella would change it back to 433 in the 2nd half with Kun (if fit) coming in, or else maybe Higs or lavezzi, Takin off a misfiring Midfielder.

In the last two 3 years Belgium have never face any of these teams down below..Tell me what makes you think Belgium is so special..Why, because they have a bunch of guys in the overrated BPL?

Brazil

Germany

Spain

Portugal

France

Uruguay

Chile

Italy

We all know the only strong team they face was Colombia and they lost.

You talk about real Argentina Fans???? REAL argentina fans will support Argentina even if they win by playing Ugly football... Me and My country was supporting Argentina throughout the 1990 WC... we didn't played pretty but we reached the final through the determination, Will Power and the Mental Strength of Maradona(he was playing with one leg injured)... and when we lost the final,, when Maradona cried infront of thousands of cameras,, the whole Bangladesh Cried with him... where were you???? i'm sure you were Celebrating with the Krauts in the other side of your border...

Don't you even dare to talk about the Real Argentina fans here....

Hazard has been average during this world cup thus far..And I don't see Hazard being this great game changer for Belgium on Saturday..The game will be played at 12 pm heat in Brazil, the weather wont be cold and foggy as to what Hazard is used to in West London...Its not like Hazard have speed up to the level of Robben and Di Maria anyways..Argentina just need to keep Mertens quiet for the first 25 minutes..Belgium is a good team no doubt but in the end they will become the 10 European team to have not beaten Argentina under Sabella.

The most important thing would be to control the tempo of the game. Control the pace. And we should be able to do that being the big team we are. We should not allow Belgium to play English football at their own speed and comfort. Just keep the possession, let the 1 PM fatigue get onto them. Play square passes and back passes as much as possible. Once these players are out of the game, the rhythm automatically gets destroyed. And remember these are all young guns. Once they lose their rhythm, lot of mispasses will come. Just one fullback should go forward at a time. The substitutes should come in earlier. Against Switzerland, Sabella waited till the extra time to bring his 2nd and 3rd subs in. We can't wait that long.

Exactly my thoughts Kid,, it would be great if Colombia goes through but Brazil is Brazil... they've played in QFs many times while this is the first time for colombia.. and this where Mental strength is so important,, colombia plays so nicely but do they have the steel to knock Brazil out from their own soil??? it would be a tremendous game and i hope the best team wins...

Some fans here are also scared of Argentina-Brazil Final... what is there to be scared??? referee,Brazilian crowd???? they will ALL BOW DOWN to the Greatest Living Legend On earth- Lionel Messi... Even Pele's impotent dick will get an erection when he will see Messi's miracle in final...

But unfortunately some "fans" here underestimates Messi's Match-winning abilities... messi has single-handedly won 4 matches for us and they still say "messi runs so little"... Even my brazilian friend won't say such idiotic things about messi but some so called "argentina fans" here said far more disgusting things...

Again,, i welcome back Kid to balance the Karma's in this blog...

Vidal from Chile is a work horse, Argentina need a worker like him in the midfield..We already have Mascherano who is basically doing the same work as Gago throughout the world cup, so its time for Sabella to try Enzo or Biglia or even Ricky Alvarez to play alongside Mascherano..

@Dan: I like Gago but he's just not mobile enough at this point. The Gago at the 2008 Olympics was 10X better than the 2014 Gago..I don't think Gago has been bad, its just that his passes are not effective, its like watching the current Xavi just hold onto the ball with no end product. Gago also does not have the energy to run back when he's caught up in the opponent half..

Carlos Velasco Carballo will be officiating the Brazil vs Colombia game..I don't like Spanish refs, they're too whistle friendly and like to give penalties too easily..With all the Neymar and Brazil diving, I have a bad feeling about Colombia prospect at this point..Colombia have to try and win this game convincingly else they will be knockout if its a close game..

Everyone keep on talking about how Perkeman has been wonderful..Lets see if he has a plan B if things are not going Colombia's way..This current Colombia team resembles Argentina teams of the past (especially the 2006 team) and I believe they will fall short against Brazil..I really want Colombia to go through over Brazil but I'll still stick with Argentina vs Brazil finale.

Whomever plays for Rojo is fine. The REAL problem is Gago, If that snail plays in midfield we are in BIG trouble. There is no way his sorry ass is going to track back and try to stop Hazard. We need either Biglia or Ricky or Enzo to do that work.

The good news is that most Argentine fans are educated and have a long memory. That bastard Gago has a bad game and he has to go back to Argentina to deal with the press...he aint playing overseas.

Belguim have weakness in full backs, their right back is center back who sits on the bench for atletico , if di Maria targets him we will have many chances on that side , also van buyten is 35/36 year old with slow pace we can target him also, the midfield and defense has gap and fellieni is very slow midfielder if we select faster midfielders(enzo/Ricky) we will have many chances, we will see but I believe we will make it

A question to the other members:-
How good is Basanta? Is he worthy of being the no. 2 choice for left back? Or Sabella did have other options while picking the 23 man squad?

I know this is irrelevant at this point of time. But wouldn't have Chrsitian Ansaldi been better than Basanta?

Belgium controlled the USA, and the midfield. I know, we have better player's than the USA. Belgium is going to try to control the midfield at first, once we start to take over the midfield, they will park the bus, and try to counter us. So probably a conservative 4-4-2 formation will work at the start of the game to play it safe with Biglia.

I'm curious now on what Sabella's decision on formation. Remember, Belgium also have their Fab 4.
