@shino : yes me too :)
@maya : why u talk about players who are not in squad is not relevant, ifs and maybes time has gone, now we have to make the best of wat we have. And these guys are more than capable if they play properly to win this world cup.

I think we are struggling only because of Sabella. What will be the situation if Tevez enters the pitch at 70 min and with Tevez, Messi and Maria we can really really get the rhythm back in our side. Even if Tevez is out of form, he will run and give his best. Not to insult Higuain, but Tevez is much much different as his experience is even greater than Messi. Whatever the problem Tevez has, but one thing sure is he works in the same way for Argentina as Messi will work for Argentina. Once he is in the pitch, no personal problems can distract him and like Maria he will atleast run till the end. Sabella is not ready to listen to these things.

Next Willy. Sabella is not ready to bring him even as a third choice keeper. Only god knows the reason. Just thinking we have Willy in the back line, it will be a major boost for our attackers. Even though Romero is doing good, he is never confident. I have never seen him expressing positive body gestures. Now nothing can be done. Hope he makes the crucial saves like he did in Iran and grow in confidence.

Never in our history we made this much debate on 4-4-2 or 5-3-2 or 4-3-3 just because we had genuine play makers in our side. Ortega or Riquelme or Redondo or Aimar or evern Maradona they knew very well their roles and they did that to perfection. So whatever formation we had, we had that creativity in the mid-field and unfortunately after 2006 Argentina is playing without a real mid-fielder. Nicolas Gaitan or Pastore or even Riquelme if he plays the last 30 mins can play that role and along with Maria on both flanks can deliver lot of crosses as at the moment we are not at all getting any venomous passes from right as Zaba is much likely to pass in the ground.

What is the use of bringing a player like Augusto Fernandez who is not at all going to touch the ball once in the world cup. Bringing Gaitan to Augusto makes hell lot of difference. But Sabella is not ready to hear that and even worse atleast Banega instead of Augusto makes some difference as Banega has much international expereince as he scored that match winning goal against Italy in the friendly.

Sabella is thinking only those 11 or 14 players should do everything. He is not ready to realise the squad has 23 players. We are in the Quarter Finals only becauase of Messi. Hope we win the ultimate only because of him.

Anyhow, all the best. The wait is long but please make it sweeter.

Belgium normally play either 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1. Either way they will be playing 4-5-1.

I think against us they will go with their plan B:4-3-2-1 and will try to stop(??)Messi..!

RB------CB-------CB---------LB
-------------DM---------------
-------CM/DM-----CM/DM--------
AMR-------------------------AML
--------------CF---------------

They have good players in every department but their strength is attacking players. Lukaku,Hazard and De bryune (he can be more dangerous than Hazard) should be stopped. Kompany and Courtois are top players but i don't care. If Messi and our other attackers are on form....they can score against any team in the world. I think 2 CF will force them deep. I wish we play both Higuain and Palacio in front. It will open space for Messi if they don't defend with 10 man.

---------------Messi--------------------
--------Higuain---------Palacio---------

I noticed in the Belgium-USA game that they have a good attacking midfield.
Argentina will most likely need 3 solid midfielders in addition to di Maria to contain the Belgian's. We only need 2 striking positions if our attackers are not too performant, anyway.
Messi & Higuain/Palacio will do. I think Higuain is still gaining form although he mostly looks dull.

Alvarez please. He can act as a link between midfield and strikers and is more than willing to track back. Play the following team in the QF and we will have a good chance.

Romero,

Zabaleta - Basanta - Garay - Campagnaro,

Biglia - Mascherano,

R. Alvarez

Messi - (Palacio/Higuain) - Di Maria.

I hope BELGIUM play an open attacking game but they won't. ALL of the other coaches are shit scared of MESSI! He is the most marked player since EL DIEGO! three or four at a time constantly trying to stop him. Yesterday,in the 118th minute, MESSI received the ball in some space, five seconds later DI MARIA scored. ALL the coaches realise that MESSI can kill you ANYTIME! No player in the history of football has ever had as much influence on his team-mates on the pitch as EL DIEGO! MESSI is "stepping up to the plate" big-time and producing at the most important moments! Regarding positive/negative comments, my stomach was churning yesterday watching the match, really nervous and anxious as you all were! but the joy when DI MARIA scored! VAMOS ARGENTINA !

Also, that BULLSHIT call from the ref against Switzerland was a down right foul ass call. I'm talking about the last play of the game when Shaquiri flop on the clean sweep by Garay. Now Garay has to play conservative against Belgium and not pick up another yellow card, if not, he will miss the Holland game.

if perez and palacio do start the match and if it is 4-4-2 it would be absolutely great for us... removing useless Higuain and Gago and putting in fresh legs would absolutely catch the Belgians off guard... Messi and Di maria will do the rest of the business..

But i would be cautious and will wait for Argentina and Belgium's final lineups to give my prediction...Let's hope that Sabella makes the mandatory changes...

I rather Bench Lavezzi and bring him in with Energy if we are stuck. have Biglia in space for Enzo and Enzo on Lavezzi's spot. But then if we score early 2 and to kill game we can bring in Biglia...So it depends hope Higuain gets some rest and starts focusing eating right and getting good sleep :/

Belgium for some reason doesn't look that solid defensively. They are yet to face a strong attacking side and their defense so far have only been tested by average forwards who apparently couldn't take their chances. Their strength is their attack like us and their players as Deb said have experience playing in elite level so they are certainly going to test our midfield and defense and our keeper. Romero has been barely tested so far and honestly he hasn't done that bad. Their physical presence is going to be another headache for sabella. This is the ultimate test for sabella to overcome the quaterfinal curse. If sabella is going to play lavezzi then he has to play as a pure winger and Higuain has to be on his toes. This is the perfect scenario for higuain to bang in some goals and silent his critics. I have a feeling that higuain is going to shine in this match.

IMO, people say we got the easy group when in fact we got the worst group, coz we basically with the exception of nigeria got teams who played defensive, which meant even if u put aside the formation used in the first half v bosnia, we never really got to play our game, so we haven't really been able to build momentum instead we have had to grind out the wins, whereas when we played in the qualifiers we were playing attack minded teams which meant we were playing our game. I really hope belgium come out and play and don't do a swiss so we can play our game and create some momentum going into the semi finals.

Sure if you think Brazil or Colombia will win this, it's just laughable when you consider how Brazil basically lucked out in the round of 16 and Colombia which we have done very well against can win this world cup but not Argentina, it makes 0 sense. But w/e float your boat, good thinking about that.

I'll also make my prediction, Argentina vs France final with ARgentina winning it.

Good points, Ayr18 and Baker.

I think we should not be too happy that both Belgium full backs are basically centre back converts. We have Rojo in our team who is also a CB converted to LB. But boy he is playing well. These players have club experience of the highest level, so we have to be cautious.

But at the same time, we should have two specialist wingers operating from both sides to keep them in check, and also to make use of any spaces they leave behind. One will be Di Maria. The other can be anyone between Lavezzi or Ricky. Either should do well. Both in attack and in offence.

I am fine with Mascherano and Gago to start in the middle. With a game that is expected to be much more open and goal based (unlike our previous games), Gago the passer needs to turn up. But yes, if he is not working, the change needs to be made early. Bring Biglia in at least by the hour mark.

And then Messi and Higuain up front.

Ok deb .

Belgium Team> Strength > Their players are all tactically disciplined and supremely fit. They are good in quick transitions.

>Stability < Belgium would never take things in hurry. They will settle themselves first . Defence is their first priority then comes attack. Just like sabella.

>Most of the play would come from left wing and center where De bruyne and hazarad would swap positions and try to cut in.

>As a surprise Hazard could start the game in center and it would make life difficult for us. Just like messi did in 09 ucl against united.

Weakness:

>Belgium's both wings are weak since they don't have natural fullbacks. we lost the advantage here by rojo suspension.

>Belgium's defence is much like us not that solid. Kompany is physically not 100% and di maria's pace would trouble them a lot.

@Deb:

Their right wing is too offensive , Vertonguen have the tendency to go further up and link up with hazard that is where our defense need to catch up and mean time that will leave lot of space for dimaria and co attack

We will win against Belgium simply because we will have the space. Belgium will attack us and we will ruin them. All the teams weve played sgainst, except nigeria, were parking the bus. Switzerland was a mix between parking and tactical fouling. Belgium wont be so cheap and weist exploit that.

I predict Belgium to line up like this 433 Courtious
Alderweild Kompany Vanbuyten Vertonguen
Defour Witsel Fellalini
De bruyne Lukaku Hazard
They will try to counter us I believe theyw ill use a tiple cover on Messi and a Double cover on Di Maria this is why I believe we need to play quick 1-2's we did so a few times and it gave messi some space Lavezi/Palacio/Alvarezz really need to have a good game and gago/biglia need to show grit and never give up With Basanta going to stay back and zabaleta getting held back by Hazard we need to use gago to surprise people by helping in attack.

Friends, I know we are a shit team and Sabella is a joker and Messi is overrated and we gonna lose all the matches for the next 5 years and all that, BUT I still want to discuss this coming Belgium match. Just for timepass. Hope that's not a problem.

Can anyone here please make a list of the possible strengths of this Belgium team? One by one, just their strengths. Please don't mention things like Hazard is great and he will shit on Zaba and all those stuff.

Please let's note their strengths and then we can discuss one by one what are the ways to combat them. We know Sabella will do squat and not listen to any of us, but just for timepass!! Sorry for the unnecessary optimism, or if I sounded that way.

For once in my life I'm supporting the team that's getting results without the beautiful football.. We are playing good enough in each game to win it, that's what matters. We need to maintain a solid defense with 100% concentration against whoever we meet. We need the midfielders to run and move the ball faster to be unpredictable. We need the forwards to also track back when necessary.

I'd also like to see some changes in the squad, mainly benching Gago & Higuain, but there's nothing I can do about it. Let Sabella select the players and the formation as he gets paid to do that. Let us sit back and enjoy the world cup. Remember it comes once every 4 years, enjoy it, and we will see this team in the final on July 13.

VAMOS ARGENTINA!

Pablo - Campagnaro - Garay - basanta

Reason for playing Demichelis in the midfield cos of Belgium Witsel and Fellani
Pablo and enzo can easily stop hazard on the flanks , mascherano can stop debryan.

i tried to figure out how the opposing managers are keeping messi quiet so far from influencing play and from what the managers are saying i think they are using the so called bird cage formation made famous by the italians many decade ago.

so what happens is that there is no man marking on messi however he is surrounded by 4 players who are usually a little away from him when he is without the ball.once messi receives the ball the players converge from 4 directions effectively caging him and taking him out of the game.this is what Switzerland did yesterday to stop messi from dictating the game.

If we win next game I expect thse type of comments: OH netherland is such a great team Fernandez won't be able tos top robben and Persie Oh Netherlands defense is so great why can't we have one like them. Oh Argentina sucks this team will never win the worldcup etc etc. If you don't like the team then gtfo this website and go write your anger out on a piece of paper no need to read your annoying negativity go support france and Germany Arg2014 if you think they are so great.

Yes world cup needs young young talents added to experienced players.....we went with highest average age squad, not good. I was cying out loud to include young fresh talents like Icardi, Iturbe, etc....Sabella lives in 1986 world, can't get over it.

some folks said here before the tournament has started that we would see 3 S.American teams and one African team in the semi final, and all European teams would be shut out. I mentioned that at least 2 European teams would reach the semis, hence Netherlands, Germany/France will go to the semi, also if we lose to Belgium, there will be 3 European teams in the semi on S.American soil. I know some European teams got eliminated early in the competition, but big teams are still here, the ones we predicted as dangerous teams.....We saw Ecuador failed to survive the group stage against European teams (France & Swiss), Uruguay and Chile were victims of their own continent rivals, and only three left: Brazil and Colombia will cancel one or the other.....Argentina has the easiest route to the final, and if we can't make it this time, we will not make it for decades to come.

Weather wasn't a big factor for teams like Germany, Netherlands, France to battle it out....France defeated Nigeria who supposed to play better in this weather condition.....Same Germany defeated USA who supposed to play better in a hot weather....Netherlands defeated Mexico who supposed to be fine with super hot weather.....can you see the trend. Weather has zero effect on big European teams. Tactical plans on the other hands speak out louder for taking these teams further in the competition.

the problem is the attacking philosophy sabella built up during qualifying is clearly not working or figured out by the opposition.he needs to adapt the team and fast.

Richard, it seems us from Europe have the same line up, whereas those outside Europe are still fantasising about gago and higauin,.

i keep watching that goal over and over. higauin tried his best to get in di marias way and failed

also had the keeper saved it palacio was perfect position for rebound.

Biglia could be key in the match. He played for Anderlecht (biggest club in Belgium) for several years and knows the ins & outs of Belgian football. The Man City boys know Vincent Kompany and most other ones who play in the EPL.

The pace of the Belgian game does not suit Gago. He should be on the bench. Higuain in his current form is no match for Kompany. Palacio and Messi upfront seems to make more sense with a strong 4 man midfield behind them (Di Maria, Masche, Biglia, Perez). Basanta will replace the suspended Rojo. If we play Demichelis who played against many of the Belgians in the EPL in stead of Fernandez and Garay and Zabaleta stay focused like in yesterday's second half, we might have a chance.

If it comes to penalties, we're in huge trouble as Courtois is bigger and better than Romero.

well to be honest i agree that sabella is not as good as bielsa or pekerman but QQing and complaining about the coach wont solve anything at this point.

we should focuse on positive sides which are: the defense was solid most of the time against switzerland and we won the game at the end.only the the outcome is important at the finals.we can win against belgium or against the dutch team but we need the gods on our side.

arg2014 anyone who understands football can see the anti football was being countered by wide play and endless crossing sabella is clearly trying to combat it

rojo-di maria wide attacks were a way of penatrating the box, we need essi and dimaria in the box win penos against scared teams that will stop them doing it

arg2014 every point you post gets proven wrong dont you ever get the hint you will keep saying this all the way to the final

anti football and fouling is because EVERYONE IS SHIT SCARED OF ARGENTINA AND MESSI even if we win like this all the way thru

people like you will say bu bu but argentina were bad, people who understand football will go

even the whole world playing anti football and fouling messi and dimaria endlessly COULDNT STOP ARGENTINA

it aint pritty but it shows are attack is feared by EVERYONE

I honestly don't see this team has the potential to reach the final match......even if we beat Belgium with luck, I can't even visualize that we are able to beat Netherlands in the semi final. We have quality players in every position, but Sabella for me is on the level of College league coach. He will do what Maradona did in the QF last time, standing there as a clueless old man, but like I said before, at least Maradona made Argentina play beautiful football in the early stages that got raves everywhere before playing the top teams.

Problem is not with our players, it was the coach, do we know what kind of training drills or philosophy he's been using when training them in the camp? how they get trained on speed, agility, coordination, and stamina threshold? training on tackles and set pieces? because it doesn't show that they have been training on any of that, all I see is Lavezzi joking around and Aguero taking photos.

sounds dumb but i think a 1970s english system is needed to combat this messi dimaria as wingers bombing forward beating a man get 2,3 players in the box to get on the balls , try to win free kicks and penos

messi is the worlds best dribbler-dimaria likely the second so run at them WIN PENALTY this isnt rocket science attack 4 up in waves then relax back

we need to score to draw out the puss from the boil that is ANTI FOOTBALL

if messi is crowded out GO FORWARD into the box let them do it there so the team can pass forward and move forward just get yourself out of the park you want to man mark me with 4 men hell lets go do it in your peno box lets see how keen you are there

out smart these fucks ,now im only a kids coach but as a coach of the citys best youth sides we meet park the bus every match ,how do you play against it ..simple you run at them full speed and bombard them

argentina tried it a little dimaria-rojo we need 4-5 players at a time to do it not 1 or 2

4-4-2 is not working so forget about it. Messi tried it and he was stuck in the midfield and failed to go up attacking close to the penalty area. If Messi is not attacking, you know we are losing. Messi knows that 4-4-2 won't work with the current squad. We need to change the starters that's all.....Higuain is useless, Gago is lazy being a diva on pitch, and FF is a bad defender, not sure how he was selected for the NT as a starter, he must know all the big guys of management really well to get that spot.

mascharano is clearly th best footballer in the world nevermind tricks, dribbles, goals, free kicks...

im talking out n out ball playing and maning up that guy is the boss he is on another level with him infront of a backline you always have a chance he is a beast tough as old nails rock hard son of a bitch....

i just feel biglia needs his chance they say gago is another mascharano it doesnt work bullshit any team in the world would have two mascharanos in it if they could

biglia provides what masch needs HELP IN THE MIDDLE , gago literally started babling his lip went when swiz started the passing around in the dieing moments near full time when they started mocking gago i thought he was going to cry

it was imbarasing to watch that ggo was full of fear its not right he should be dropped and higuain if starting needs to work not stand still in the box marked by 4 players

the only way we win the quarters is after sabella pulls out a trick or two from his coaching manual because we aint winning the WC with the current tactics.but with the right changes he can unlock the potential of this team.

exactly cos he is quick to find and feed the ball

if we play the right players we can score 4-5 goals vs belgium as they will not park the bus

biglia of gago is the first step

if sabella picks gago for creativity then he might as well play perez or ricky, cos defending wise and attacking gago offers nothing.

if sabella picks gago to defend than biglia might aswell start

i really believe dropping gago will improve so much for argentina,

when he came on in ET we switched to 4-2-3-1, that front 4 were given freedom to actually stay upfront, cos biglia would support the midfield and defence

this is what we need to do vs belgium

Also, I am wondering what you guys think of Zabaleta? I know there isn't much talk of him here but he is slow as can be, and he has no power in his leg to make a driving cross. Those crosses yesterday looked like they were taken by a 6th grader.

This will be another difficult match. I am hoping that Sabella sits down Messi and shows him the tape as to why Gago cannot play. I would also plan on starting Biglia instead of Gago and Palacio instead of Higuain on a 4-3-3. If we play a 4-4-2, I would play Biglia and Alvarez with Palacio/Lavezzi up top with Messi.

I have serious reservations about this game. The oddsmakers have us favored to win this game. But our performance by Gago, Higuain and Aguero are awful. I don't really care if they are injured; if they made the 23 man squad they need to perform or admit they are injured so that the team can have different alternatives. It is pure selfishness to pretend you can play and lay that pile of turd Higuain and Aguero have laid. I hope it doesn't cost us, or that they wake up. At full strength, I would say we would destroy Belgium, but not this version of Argentina.

Can any of you guys put my mind at ease as to why we will win????

sabella is clearly trying to combat anti football tactics used against us when we lined up defensive bosnia played towards us mybe going counter attack and siting deep will work after all...

yesterday wasnt pritty but you can see the plan ,have dimaria run his legs of trying to penetrate the 10 man defence and draw players away from messi

he may have lost the ball 52 times but why ??? he was sent on a mission to go at the swiz with crosses and shots and from wide posisions he was carrying some huge baggage with the responabillity

it may have took longer than it should but it worked in the end

my only gripes are gago and no man on the posts in the dieing seconds

WHY NO ONE ON POST in that last courner of the game ,i also feel messi is no captain were was his leadership , his voice he never gave anyone any instrution or telling off he just kept his head down he needs to say to higuain gago etc ......can you pull your finger out please as me dimaria and mascharano are playing the rest of you have your finger in your ass fucking everything up....

we will face this all tourement if others wont come out to play we need to find a way to combat it passing slowly is the exact opersite to what we need to do messi is also guilty of this slow build up

if more players ran at the packed peno box like dimaria does then we shall penetrate dont be too critical of dimaria breaking thru the wall has to be done somehow having mr 8 lungs run at them isnt such a bad idea
