The Decision: 4-3-3 or 4-4-2?

There is still no indication yesterday from Alejandro SABELLA, not during his press conference nor even after the team’s training session at the Arena Corinthians after that.

For the most part, Ezequiel LAVEZZI does look to be in the running to replace Kun AGUERO since the Nigeria’s match and even during practice sessions in their base camp in Belo Horizonte.

However there was a whole new twist to this as for yesterday’s session, SABELLA opt for Maxi RODRIGUEZ to train with the first team instead LAVEZZI.

Thus throwing in the big question on everyone’s mind as to what would be the first 11 to take on Switzerland.

Will he still maintain the same 4-3-3 formation by naming LAVEZZI in the line-up in place of AGUERO? Or will he go for a 4-4-2 with two wingers; Maxi and Angel DI MARIA on the right and left respectively?

We will post them here as soon as we find out.

IMO no player apart from Rojo didn't produce their 100% yet, Messi,Garay,Masche,Dima,Higuain all looked at their 70-80 %

This worldcup proved , there is not such thing as small team .

we have to hold our defense tight for 90 mins and need to get scoresheet as early as possible.

vamos vamos argentina

lavetzi and palacio can help backline....i think one of 2 should play instead of aguero... and in the midfiled gago is very very slow and a weak body ...enzo perez is fast and stronger body than gago
----------------------romero---------------------------
zabaleta------fernandez--------garay-------------rojo--
----enzo perez-----mascherano----------dimaria
-------lavetzi---------messi-----------
---------------higuain

Lavezzi will start,

Just for references Van Gaal have used 20 players with 4 variety of formation changes in single games so far, meanwhile Sabella used 15 players with 2 variety in single games; Although Van Gaal is more on tactical approach and Sabella are more emphasis on harmony and balance of the team.

May be Sabella got a feeling that Maxi can repeat his brilliant goal against Mexico at 2006 in QF. History can be repeated. Glory to Argentina

Tomorrow we ll see some other scorers on the sheet hopefully. Dimaria and Higuain are more likely to score as the Swiss coach indicated he will be heavy on Messi.

I think Sabella has been training 1st half and 2nd half.

@sanisidro - totally agree that Higuain needs to score. I think he should be fitter for this game and if he does score, it will really help us in the next game and beyond. I'd also be watching for DiMaria to make better final passes and Lavezzi too if he gets the nod. If these things can happen, we will be looking good.

whatever argentina does, they can have no more than 2 subs per game and save the third one in case romero gets injured.

nothing would be worse than going into extra time with dimaria playing goal.

Obviously 4-3-3. Lavezzi will take Aguero's place.

If it goes to PK, do you know who will take the PKs?

Taking advantage of setpieces is crucial we have tall defenders but they are not on target so far

Given the formations in practice, maybe Sabella uses Lavezzi to tire and breakdown the Swiss defensive line/midfield and brings on Maxi in the 60th or so to finish the job with fresh attacking legs.

@San Isidro: Aguero is out for this match. They will evaluate to see if he is available for the next match should we win.

A good surprise would be if higuain scored a couple goals. It will really help us with other teams as they will have to worry about multiple players.

I already knew teams or supposedly "Weaker" teams would park the bus way before the world cup and that is why i give Sabella credit for the choice of friendlies.

My hope is that based on our group showing teams that considered parking the Bus will now be "unsure"
and have to consider it to heavily mark Messi which works in our favour because it will free up Higuain and Di Maria even more. I want us to go all the way! good luck beautiful Argentina!

I think on a 4-4-2 Ricky is more suited but a 4-3-3 I really like Palacios pace with lavezzi as a super sub. Is there any word on aguero?

@San Isidro: Ole seems to hint it will be a 4-4-2/4-3-3 hybrid with Lavezzi in since he can play both midfield and forward.

According to Ole it will be a 4-3-3 with Pocho in, but that he will cover a lot more.
