Press Conference with Sabella
Just brief write up on Alejandro SABELLA’s press conference which took place today at Arena Corinthians, the venue which they play against Switzerland tomorrow.

SABELLA first made it clear what is expected from the team’s performance "We know we have to be very much focused and maintain balance. There is no margin for error ".

As for the team’s line up and formation he is still keeping a secret for now although strong suggestions are leaning towards Ezequiel LAVEZZI to start ahead of the injured Kun AGUERO

He also confirms that he didn’t take it serious on the goofy act by LAVEZZI on him during the Nigeria’s match and that the relationship between them is still very much healthy.

About tomorrow’s opponent, he said "Switzerland is a team that has been working together for a long time and have great technical ability plus their own strength and weakness".

He also stated that football is unpredictable and that anything can happen in tomorrow’s match.

As for his overall view on the group stage matches including Lionel MESSI’s performance

"What this group has is good spirit and is improving in every game…. As we get closer to a good performance there will be more chances to advance. MESSI is doing a great and which is what I expected from him, his colleagues, the public and all. I'm very happy for the team and for him. He is a key player for us"

Finally, SABELLA also stressed on the importance of mental strength.

"When it comes to football at the highest level, the character of a player is essential. Beyond the tactical, technical and game strategy, having an emotional balance is equally vital. The feeling is different when playing in front of 80,000 people for 120 minutes”.

if messi is heavy marked its up to others to step up as messi being marked heavy means their is plenty of space for others.

but still you have to prepare for a plan b if messi is heavily marked then others should help him out 1-2 goals from dimaria/higuain or even lavezzi will help a lot

lavetzi and palacio can help backline....i think one of 2 should play instead of aguero... and in the midfiled gago is very very slow and a weak body ...enzo perez is fast and stronger body than gago
----------------------romero---------------------------
zabaleta------fernandez--------garay-------------rojo--
----enzo perez-----mascherano----------dimaria
-------lavetzi---------messi-----------

Dang!! The round of 16 games are very tight. I never thought Germany would have gone to extra time with Algeria. Argentina's match against Switzerland will not be an easy one, especially with our forwards not being able to provide.

if Neymar doesn't start for brazil or if he starts not 100% fit then they are in real trouble... Colombia will not stretch it to extra time,, they can finish the game in normal time if Pekerman get his tactics right this time...

France probably lack a bit in attacking third compared to Argentina but they are ahead of us in midfield and way ahead in defence, very good team and I can't predict a scoreline of the super France-Germany match.

Both French goals were from mistakes and Nigeria was missing the forward with the broken hand. But gotta say that France had the better of chances than Nigeria on their counters and defense better organized than ours. Have to wonder how our team would perform in the same game. I would guess a 1-0 score in favor of us.

reason sabella went 4-4-2 was its when we beat them 2y ago

he chmaged to 3-5-2 cos thats what we beat bosnia last year but didnt work

4-4-2 will not work vs swiss as they will park the bus and counter

4-2-3-1 is the best for park the bus teams

both sides are lacking that killer pass which would result in a goal... Nigeria is matching toe to toe with France,, there is no such thing called "easy match" in this WC.... every team is playing as if it is the last match of their lives....

Agree with you but the outcome should be directionally correct. Of course, if our team could play to the sum of our individual talent no team would be a match for us.

I don't know how much we can take from the earlier matches.just like te 5-0 pounding of Spain by the Dutch was a bit overrated. Similarly Swiss defeat in the hands of France could be another outlier.

Let's hope we play a solid game and come out victorious.

So, Sabella has prepared to play for 120 minutes? Good, but I hope it won't come to that.

And we came back from behind once, that Colombia qualification. We can do it but depends on the mental strength of the players as he said.

Switzerland defense is shitty....France thrashed them in a warm up game. I watched their game against Ecuador and I believe the latter played better than the Swiss. Switzerland has been declaring lots of trash talk to the media before the match, but that is their only weapon they have against Argentina. Shaqiri can score against the weak Honduras, but failed to shine against The French.
