The Team Has Arrived In Sao Paolo

The Argentine squad arrived tonight in Sao Paolo, where they will be preparing for the Round of 16 match up against Switzerland.

As always the team was greeted by almost 200 fans that came to the Pullman Hotel at Ibirapuera neighborhood to welcome them.

Shortly after they checked in, both Ezequiel LAVEZZI and Javier MASCHERANO published this photo which was taken inside the hotel elevator on their respective social media account.

Tomorrow morning Alejandro SABELLA will hold a press conference and the team will train in the afternoon at the Arena Corinthians.

@dammage7, how can you hope for injury for one of our players? Injury is never a good thing, especially on players who've done a lot and helped us in qualification.

We are far better team than Swiss. Just what we need is perfect midfielders who can run and create chances for our strikers. Who can help a bit in the defence. It will an easy win for Argentina if they keep themselves calm, keep faith in them, attack in every ball, keep an eye on defender. In my sense football is a mind game as well as health. If we attack more then Swiss team will fear us, which we need for tomorrow and hopefully for next matches. Let's hope for the best. Vamos Argentina..............................

Guys, from the goals we have given away so far I think it is a bit harsh to blame the back 4. Each of the goals was a result of a run through a gaping hole in the middle. We've not conceded by corner, free kick or when we had numbers at the back. The imbalance in midfield is the real cause. Right now, I am more critical of our CB's not scoring at the other end given the amount of free kicks and corners we have won. In fact, the source of the goals can be pointed back to a 50%-functioning fab4. When we are at 100%, we don't lose the ball so easily and our forwards force their defenders into mistakes by chasing and running which hasn't happened - I'm looking at you Aguero and Higuain. Maybe Fab4 will be at 75% against the Swiss and our back 4 will look less bad?

Robben wasn't just diving all over the game, but he wasn't man enough to take the penalty and score himself. Cowards both him and the referee who wanted to get Europe saved that day instead of losing one qualification seat for Europe.

I think the reason f fernandez is having poor games is sabella changed his position before he played on the left side of defense and now he is playing on the right side , may be that is the reason of poor form, and for gago he will never be replaced becouse messi wrongly thinks that he is the only one who can reach the ball to him(enzo Perez can do that even faster then gago) but mr messi only sees gago as passer, so we are stuck with gago, despite his weak defense and slow pace, unfortunetly to say but only injury can solve that issue as it already solved the fab 4 issue with lavezzi coming in and that gave little balance to the team

Rahat@ I just watching one match in World Cup qualifications with Palacio. This man can be defend in our box and in the same minute attacking goal our rival. Not just once. When you want Win World Cup you must leave your health on the pitch.
If Messi needs 4-3-3 to play good We must not give up with this. Therefore We need players which will support our weak defense (Palacio, Lavezzi) or replaced our weak defenders (Campagnaro for Zabaleta, Basanta for FF) and preferably both.
Zabaleta will be enough for Switzerland I think but won't for better teams.

any team t win wc needs luck

brazil had it in last minute of chile extra time
brazil had it in 2002 with easy group and ronaldhinio goal and belgium disallowed goal in last 16

italy had in 2006 with shoot out

really hope we get some luck now

@Kidult, You got it wrong for Chile & Mexico. But it was really close. Both of the team were unlucky. I did not have enough courage to predict like you. Keep it up & shout more.

Zabaleta - fede - garay - rojo will start. though personally id stick campa and basanta for zab and fede to make defense more solid

biglia isnt hopeless at attacking and can push up if need be, look at the 2nd half of the romania game.

the way we can save the 4 defenders is 2 ways

1. stick biglia with masherano

lavezzi and palacios both start, both hard working and track back. palacios fitness is almost on par with sorin

@outlaw, I like your 4-3-3. But, I will still go with Zabaleta. He played well after Lavezzi came on the field. And Higuain in place of Palacio. May be Palacio at the 2nd half if Higuain is still flop.

The problem with 4-3-3 is you need 4 very solid world class defenders which we do not have. If we continue to play in this formation, our defense will be exposed. So, it is wise & safe to play 4-4-2.

I dearly hope that Sabella doesn't do the infamous mistake which Herrera did for Mexico yesterday when he took out his best player,, Dos Santos off the pitch and virtually handed the game to the dutch... Pekerman did the same mistake in 2006.. In knockout matches,, this infamous mistake is repeated by many coaches,, once their teams lead by a goal,, they think they can see off the rest of the match by defending so they sub their best player on the pitch.. it is a 100% proven suicide strategy,, YOU NEED YOUR BEST PLAYER ON THE PITCH for the full 90 mins to keep the balance in your favor... i am sure sabella will not do this stupid mistake but i always have worries regarding Argentina..

Gago has fantastic long passes often. But he must gives something else. We will need midfielders who can defend agressively. Like Chile or Mexico.

Defensively Gago is playing weak now..OK..i agree...but he can improve. Hes slow...OK..i agree..he can improve there too. Hes slowly coming to his full fitness. He will be improved match by match. He is the heart of our creativity. All our 3 midfielders..Gago,Mascherano and Dimaria can give a match winning pass in any moment. I cant complaint our midfiled of Mascherano,Gagoand Dimaria is bad..! They form one of the best midfield in this WC...and they will only get improved in the further matches...just wacth on..!

Romero
Campagnaro,Garay,Basanta,Rojo
Perez,Mascherano,DiMaria
Lavezzi,Messi,Palacio

Our best line up. I'm sure. Most of players who can really good defend. Also Lavezzi and Palacio. When We play with these players We don't need 5th defender.

@dammage7, i agree Basanta is good on the floor and in the air and reacts better than FF. I also do agree that Biglia can help shield that backline but i wouldnt take out Zabaleta just yet and one thing u should think about is if Gago is out we lose creativity and ball movement in midfield

campa - garay - basanta - rojo

this would improve defence esp on right side

-----biglia---masherano-

this would imp defence in midfield

lavezzi----messi----di maria

------------palacio

lav, pal and mari aor work horses who will attack but will also run back to defend allowing messi to stay up

I think a referee's decision is least influenced by the continent he is from.I prefer a European referee. With their exposures with such competitive league matches, they will be the list likely to make fateful errors.
Vamos Argentina!!!

@Deb: For all this , we should have have early lead and should be in a comfortable postilion.

And remember its a knock out stage , we should be ready for playing 120 mins , so we can expect late subs

3 substitutes absolutely mandatory tomorrow:

1. Check Biglia for Gago. Not for the last 5 mins, give him at least half an hour.

2. One defender who can play both full back and CB. Like Basanta or Campagnaro. Must test.

3. Palacio for Higuian. We need to see his form and touch.

Mexico coach already voiced his unhappiness about referee by saying why FIFA taking referee from different continent if they don't use a referee who is from different continents than both team. Mexico-Netherlands match refereed by a European referee. Now the same happening here against Argentina. A Swedish referee refereeing Argentina-Switzerland match. Why they don't use African or Asian referee..?
