What every one has to understand that...(myself included)...
This is modern football...almost all players are more or less equal..World cup draw occurred 6 months back and since then every team know who their opponents are and every teams got plenty of time to asses, plan and implement the idea....to shut a main player or players and a team. Small team has done much of these work and they executed it superbly. They got the result. They wanted to show something other than coming losing and just leaving. May be they utilized all modern technology for this. All big gun were over confident on their players and on their victory but it did not happen as they thought.

the issue is we want to win the world cup.
england lost to good teams

we are upset cos of the lack of heart desire from our players

i dont care about brazil, germnay italy just argentina

without sounding extreme parents dont care about other people children, just their own, so they want the best from them. thats how argentian fans feel

Aguero and Higuain needs confidence and sabella should stick with them against Nigeria... Park the bus teams have frustrated many teams in the past and it was nothing new for Argentina....having said that Enzo perez need some time on the pitch... i was surprised sabella didnt send Maxi in.. a perfect player for Park the bus situations like today...
And for those complaning about our defense... we looked compact and solid in the first half but had some nervy moments in the 2nd because our players including the defenders were pressing forward for the goal,,, this is what a Park the bus team can do ..
i also agree with some of you Sabella should have substitiuted one of aguero or higuain after the break and brought in either maxi or lavezzi or palacio..
Ugly win but i will take it!!

Well, at least we're not peaking too early :)

Our team lacks pace and that needs to be rectified. We have a few star players still far from 100% fitness (Aguero & Higuain).

Gago is too slow and lacks defensive ability and he needs to be dropped and Enzo to replace him.

I'll give Iran credit, they defended really well and counted better than us and were much faster.

People need to relax because Argentina are playing in 2nd gear. They will crank it up to at least 4th gear come the knockout phase.

And Messi......que Gooooolasssoooooooo!!!!!

@clau, I'm glad you're just a fan who has nothing to do with the national team whatsoever. With your way of thinking and attitude, they will surely have no chance as you predicted, so i gotta thank god that negative thinking of such has nothing to do with the national team. And you mentioned the betting odds, I'm sure Spain of last world cup had gone from the hottest favorite to the least favorite after first match. Let me tell you something, you act exactly like a odd maker, place your judgement solely on a match result, and see things solely on the negative side and ignore the positive aspects they have shown today.

Ok, now you say you would place Germany as the top favorite, and i'm sure you'd turn a 180 degree if Germany struggle to beat Ghana today....and god knows you might even predict costa rica to win it all cuz they HAVE BEEN WINNING and showing promise base on your logic.

We must field the same squad in our last match!!

Any team would have looked terrible against a side who defends with 10 men for effs sake! Remember Barcelona in their prime against Chelsea? If they had 2-3 players in their attacking third we would looked great. mark my words.

To say it out loud: We must not change our starting eleven( this one!) in the last match at any cost unless there is an injury.

Against Nigeria, it will be a completely different match. Di maria, kun and pipita needs confidence! let them have it in our last match.

Messi and Romero saved our ass in this match, and Rojo was great! We have 6 points and conceded 1 goals in two matches...which is less than Netherlands. So keep calm and have your faith in Lio & Co.

Pradi,
france played 433 but has very fast center backs (varane and sakho) and right and left back... in the midfield france also has muscle and super athletics...

ff and garay rojo are turtles compare to frances back 4... and gago and dimaria are mediocre defending compare to frances midfield... gago was kicked out of 4 teams in the last 4 years for not defending...

we can and we will the world cup... i trust sabella, and hope he will rely on a 442 system with biglia and enzo and gago on the bench...

time to play 442, 424 but with gago on the bench....

it is limited what can be expeced of a team whose midfield leader
gago was kicked out for free for real madrid, valencia, roma for bad defending,, and has been mediocre on his return in argentina for a reason....

he has no pressing, no decent defense....

argentina 4 4 2, with biglia and enzo....

biglia, Ricky, augusto, enzo all where sitting on bench and is dying for a chance.... We dont hav mid at all.... I cant understand why people criticizing masche, a single man cant do breaking plays aline in mid, itz an impossible task... France played 4-3-3 yesterday but check de stats how many kilometres their front 3 ran.... I felt rojo was poor, not even a single decent cross.... Poor zaba didnt hav a man to link up through right wing, messi didnt even seeing his runs, when lavezzi came in saw some beautiful plays between them... Lucky we didnt hav chile or costa rica in our team...

Important to draw the right conclusions after each match:

1)Argentina is not playing at peak. Great. Rather late(86,90) than early(98,06,10).

2)Iran parked the bus. Its impossible to score under those conditions regardless of lineups and formations. Argentina did.

3)Lets see the 3rd game. Its a marathon not a sprint.

@Xtreme...firstly, I'd like to say that let's have a civil discussion and no need to be hostile about other people's opinion. It is just an opinion and that is it, it doesn't matter in any way shape or form about what will actually happen on the pitch.

Okay...let's talk. We can only make conclusions based on the evidence presented to us and so far it looks like Arg are not doing good at all. Do they have a room of improvement? Of course they do. Will they? That's the big question. So far there hasn't been any improvement from the previous display.

If I were a bookmaker I would give Ger greater odds of winning the final than our team. If I pick Arg as favorites to win I wouldn't have made the choice in an objective way but rather have been emotionally influenced.

If Arg wins the WC I'll be as happy as anyone but so far there isn't any evidence to make me think they will.

Credit to Queroz for snuffing out our counter attack after we won the ball from back from opposition corners. They closed down DiMaria's passing options on the break really well. Iran planned everything well and played solid, put pressure on our weak spots - namely Rojo, Zabaleta, including restricting our attack to crappy crosses into the box for 6 Iranians to clear. Messi had a minimum of 3 defenders on him at all times and Gago could not pass the ball to him at all.

There still seems a lot of pressure on the players and you can see it their faces. I think Palacio and Lavezzi really changed the complexion of the match with their movement allowing Messi to have a chance with "only 2" defenders on him for that goal.

Frustrating to watch, but at least for Messi - he is really living up to expectations even though he would prefer his team mates to be firing together. Had Aguero, Rojo and Garay put away those early chances the game would haven been plenty different, instead of a sea of red shirts in the box for pretty much the entire match.

Lots to think about.

I think the main problem is that the 'Fab 4' haven't turned up. Higuain and Aguero are unfit and out of form, Di Maria has regressed to the player that used to get so much hate on this forum, and aside from his two moments of magic, Messi is currently a shadow of his former self. Our midfield and defence was always going to be a worry. We were only ever going to challenge if the 'Fab 4' were at their best.

Not too many comments, but Agüero and Higuaín can't play, Palacio and Lavezzi in. Also, Di María better improves or he should be replaced.

Other than this, we qualified for the next round, so it's ok. Parking the bus is not that good of an option for our rivals from now on, and Iran literally stayed on their field the entire freaking match. If you're really not happy about anything, just remember all the other champions, and for football's sake, remember Italy 90.

@claudio, your so called being realistic only goes match by match, I think you'd think whole differently after Argentina blowing past the next opponent and be like, "man, was I dumb to doubt this team". Lets be real, EVERY FREAKING WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS has struggled in the past early on, and it makes 0 freaking sense to doubt our chances now..Room for improvement yes, writing us off already...??? what are you?? get outta here. Honestly, I'd be much more worried if we blew past opponents like in the past. Tell me, what did that get us...being labeled as the favorite after group matches????? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, 0 fucking thing, it means no shit, i repeat, NO SHIT to blow past everyone in group stage.

The most important thing is to improve as the tournament goes on, and we all know our players are much more capable of what they have shown today. That's another good sign because that means they can only get better. I just know you will see a different ARG team in knockout stage when it really matter. So shut it with all the stupid negative comments.

They surely didn't play as well as expected, but you gotta give some credit to Iran, they played their ass off trying to frustrate the Argentine attacks, and we did have some moments of brilliance and just lack some finishing touch and luck, or else all you pessimist writers wouldn't be talking shit in here, you'd be praising like no others.

A while ago, after the champions league I went on a rant that said something to the effect that fu**king Dimaria better play for his country the way he plays at Madrid. Nobody said anything and we kept congratulating his sorry ass for winning the CL. If you notice, we lack pace in the game because the midfield is not generating fast paced action. This is not mascherano or gagos job. Mascherano is defensive and gago is short passes to messi. The work pace falls on dimaria. He has been inaccurate slow and non existent in 2 games. That is why messi is falling so far back. Dimaria is not generating any pace in the midfield. Until this changes we are in trouble. We have to see what Ricky can do because dimaria is a shell of what he was.
Iran is a good team. They have given up 1 goal in 6 games. There was a clear penalty that was not called on us. Romero saved our ass a couple times. In the end, the players need to show up. This means you dimaria, aguero, and higuain. A win is a win, but there is something severely wrong with the psyche of this team.

Am I the only one feeling happy? I also expected easy win, but after seeing how discipline are the Iranians, I understand now why Nigerians could only manage 0-0. On the paper, Iran is the weakest, but they play without any burden and with 11 players defending. It's obvious Argentina was the better team and Iran was overwhelmed to defend their goal. We can see all 11 red-shirt in their own half most of the time. We all know the team that park the bus can be deadly in counter attack since the opponents will be drawn away from their area. Messi really saved the day.

It's very opposite from 2010. We looked great in group stage, won with big margins and looked very confident until meeting with Germany. Now, we looked not so convincing, but I'm hoping we will be growing steadily.

Romero, Rojo, Mascherano, Gago, Di Maria were best players from our team. Worried about Higuain and Aguero. Messi didn't get to see the ball most of the time. But really, he has saved our team twice now, true genius know how to make use of his limited chance.

Next game, I hope other players can score as well to give them some confidence. Come on Higuain and Aguero!!

Also, very happy to see the supporters!!! Hope they keep it up for our beloved team!! Good nite everyone, time for me to sleep.

gago is a liability in a team that has 4 forwards on the field....
in the 433 argentina needs to have enzo or biglia and with teams like iran press immediatly ...

but, i think argentina should use a 442 ... and enzo and biglia...

this one of the situations where I personally criticized Sabella for three years.
we are built to play counterattack and not for breaking defenses open.
we will struggle against teams like this if we dont score early on.
Pastore, Lamela or an old Riquelme would have helped for such situations.
Our fantastic four will shine against bigger teams, but our defenses will probably struggle.
the only player that was great today was Romero.
Messi beside the goal was awful do not live in denial, Aguero and Higuain look tired, di Maria was also bad.
I believe in the team, the individuals, but not on Sabella, if we win we will despite a bad coach like Sabella.
I say no team has shown me to be unbeatable in this tournament, so we have a chance to win, we have players that can decide games.
...so do not get overconfident after a win, or after a player scores a goal but also do not get unsure after a bad display.
We must improve, maybe it´s a good thing that we struggle now and not when it really matters.

Lets accept it ..

1. Romero is our man of the match for the first two matches.... not messi .
2. Fab 4 has been played like shit for the entire match ...
3. with right tactics and defensive balance even an pele , maradona , messi forward line can be stopped

4 . We may win the world cup and there is very much possibility that we would score 1 or 2 goals per match .so stop dreaming about THRASHING every opponent.

5. WE win of we lose ... Argentina forever.

No progress whatsoever I said that last week but people defended the display.

Two games and all my fears has been there, what I has written in this blog several times. We don't have decent midfield players. Gago is bad, Mascherano is bad. Period!

Di Maria? Wow! He has best long passes in modern football, but in this WC he has been terrible.

Higuain/Agüero? They were injured and they are not in form.

Messi - It's not normal, he needs tu play as goalscorer and playmaker.

But good thing is, that almost every WC winners has started slowly.

And another good thing: Romero has been GOOD.

Looks like Aguero and Higuain are not fit. Better we play with Palacio and Lavezzi, they will also fall back for defending.

Why so many idiots so pessimist about argentina chances in this world cup? We won for god sake, and let me reassure you...ALL WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS in the past has struggled at some point early on, so IT's actually a GOOD SIGN to struggle early on as long as we improve as the tournament progresses and peak at the right moment, thats all that matters. I see good things out of this match, we created numerous chances, and goals will come sooner or later, I still have full confidence in Argentina lifting the cup. I will call out every single one of you being so negative about this when we finally won the cup in a month time.

we are playing too slow, in 4 3 3 we need to play much faster, can't break down defences if u r going to play slow passes.
don't think was a great game for dimaria or gago, dimaria needs to refind his form. romero did great. and saved by messi once again, the rest of the players need to step up and start playing properly.

We only have the best attack on paper, not on the pitch. So many countries have a better attack. We do have Messi!

We played better in the group stage in 2010 under Maradona!

4-3-3 right tactic, but wrong players. We need at least 4 substitutions.

I have told this so many times earlier, playing aguero-messi-higuain together is almost like playing with 10 players.... The only thing stopped my tears is watching gago, but imo we need to sacrifice him in de rest f de tournament, no midfield pressing at all, biglia or enzo perez is must, iran breaking us like this then think f some capable attackers... Anyway seeing luck for de first time in de biggest stage...

Basanta for Fernandez
Campa for Zabaleta
Perez for Di Maria
Palacio for Higuain
Lavezzi for Aguero.

Okay. Second game is over and lucky lucky Argentina and brilliant brilliant Messi. Last game we saw how they played and for some poor funs they just can't get it in their minds that this team isn't good enough.

Reasons for the poor showing given were a bad formation and it's just the "first match". Now what is the reason for this awful showing today?

We have no sense of purpose, spirit and desire and you cannot win the WC with this performance. Poor passing, bad touches, no ideas whatsoever. Every single player did not show up. Aguero? poor, Higuain? poor, Zabaleta? poor, Di Maria? poor. I can go on and on but you get the drift.

If we meet a decent team WE WILL BE KNOCKED OUT! no question about it. I absolutely feel sorry for Iran they did not deserve the loss. They at least deserved to get a draw if not a win.

One final question. If Germany were to play Iran do you think they'll have a hard time to get a win? I don't think so but I'm sure someone will say otherwise just to give an excuse for this team's performance

Listen
Do you guys who talking shiit have sny idea sbout football. Iran was defending with 11men and the team who will attack us will be in trouble bcoz than Messi them lot will get chances. Every time Iran attacked they were stressed.
Anyway it's six points and WC win by like this. Not far you can look at Spain. Every time team struggle they will grow as a team

What a lucky escape. I am disappointed with the team. Di Maria, Higuain so bad. Gago only slows play down. The complete lack of speed and lack of dynamic play. Messi to the rescue. We must change so much. Perez for Gago, Alverez, Palacio and Lavezzi in.

I'll admit my mistake to the Romero believers: he saved us several times.

I expect clean sheet from the gk; integrated, solid defense, strong midfield that links up well with attack and defense and, dictates the pace of the game; sharp accurate attack and injury free ending.
