Previous Meetings – Argentina vs AFC Side
Later on when Argentina takes on Iran, it would be the fourth meeting against a representative from the Asian Football Confederation.

The first meeting was back in 1986 when Argentina open their campaign against South Korea in Mexico. The Taegeuk Warriors did everything they had to stop Diego MARADONA thus giving birth to the term “Tae Kwan Do Football” as you can see from this photo.

Argentina won the match 3-1 with a double from Jorge VOLDANO and Oscar RUGGERI while the Koreans pull one back from PARK Chang-Sun.

Twelve years later in the France 1998 World Cup, Argentina open their campaign this time against debutant Japan in Toulouse. A strike from Gabriel BATISTUTA made all the difference as Argentina defeated the Blue Samurai 1-0.

Another twelve years, Argentina meets South Korea again in a group match in Johannesburg, South Africa. This was also reunion for both MARADONA and HUH Jung-Boo, whom played in that match in 1986 but were now the managers for their respective team.

Argentina continued their winning streak against an Asia’s side with a 4-1 win with Gonzalo HIGUAIN scoring a hat-trick and the other was an own goal from PARK Chu-Yong. Korea’s goal came just before half time through LEE Chung-Yong.

So with three wins out of three, scoring 8 goals conceding 2, what would be the outcome today?

Iran it is a ok team and against a strong team like Argentina they will play the defense most likely. There physical ability to 90 menut game with our forward strikers they will get them tired. I am experience of these country because my country play with them in that part of area so many times.
but make no mistake they will fight for there game and in football there is always surprises. I am sure as a die hard Argentina fan hope we get our three point and move up to secound round. Vamos Argentina.

Ohhhh the 2010 Korea game.... The writing was on the wall wasn't it? With Kun, Messi and Higuain they combined so much better up front. It almost hurts to watch any match from that WC just knowing we had the team in place and not utilising it to the fullest.

1. clean sheet
2. messi, higauin to score
3. alvarez, palacios/lavezzi and perez to feature
4. maxi to get flu
we dont need to revert to 3-5-2 to defend a one goal lead.

@sandy-- No we won't be able to keep the World Cup permanently if we win it this year... Brazil is the only Nation to have permanently won the old one(Jules Rimet) in 1970 as they became the first Nation to win 3 WCs...but in 1983,, the Jules Rimet Cup got stolen... well it is still a mystery as to what actually happened to the trophy.. here is an interesting story-- http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jun/13/world-cup-mystery-what-happened-jules-rimet-trophy

Well,, it's a shame that Argentina never touched the Jules Rimet even once while our Rivals actually Owned the damn thing(and then lost it for good)...But if we win this WC,, this win will dwarf any other WC win that any team ever had... A WC win on brazilian soil will not just add another star on our shirt,, brazilians will know that even if they win 10 WCs,, they never won in their own soil and it was their bitterest rival who enjoyed the greatest triumph of all time...

don't be a fool for life.
you don't take score prediction seriously. so i say go on, just predict how many goals argentina can score tonight. it's fun.
also about prediction on who's gonna be in semis and final, or who meets who, don't take that seriously as well.
seriously who would be believe the prediction about argentina will meet ghana in the final? that was a serious crap made by mundo's posters lately.
like i said, the best thing to do now, is to take things easy and step by step.
1st match is over, welcome to bash the team.
now, we're on the 2nd match, i'm sure mundo's will be busy on sunday.

lets take a guess, who will score first tonight for the albiceleste???

I'm a die hard Argentina fan but I can't go beyond the reality and I know that Argentina will struggle against Iran. Iran is super defensive team. Please don't keep overconfidence while predicting the score.

sorry if i am foolish or too ignorant.
if we win this trophy, can we claim the trophy (Fifa World Cup Trophy) permanently just as brazil got jules rimet? we have won world cup two times. i don't know how this notion got into my mind. but i think whosoever wins the trophy 3 times first can claim that trophy. is that so? somebody please clear my doubt.

Priority from today's match shall be three points in the bag and a place in the knock out stage, regardless 0f it being 1-0, 2-0, or 6-0.
Equally important is for Argentina to show promising and confidence building performance in every department.
Goal keeper concentration and clean sheet.
Defense solidity, integrity, concentration.
Midfield fluidity, link up well with attack, ability to dictate the pace of the game
Attack, sharpness, effectiveness.

Vamos Argentina ***

Well with my life long best friend being from Iran and me being an Iraqi (we are neighbors and we share a common ancestral history) I have a soft spot for Iran and I really don't want to see them humiliated (I don't think they will to be honest)but I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't be happy to see the albicelestes put 3 or 4 past them, but like I said before; tomorrow's game is going to be tight and I think our boys are going to have to sweat it out like they did with Japan in 1998.

p.s. I'm supporting them to somehow make it out of the group.

Lastly, does anybody know where Johnny and Leandro are at? haven't seen much of either of them since the WC started, hope nobody here upset them.
Mundo without those 2 is like Messi without his left foot!

The boys should show no mercy. I want Di Maria, Higuain and Aguero to revive themselves in this match. Hope to see a goal fest. Do not disappoint me like the first match.

no problem against iran...3-1, or better 4-1, but hopefully, we didn't conceded any goals.
