A 4-3-3 in training

Alejandro SABELLA trained in a 4-3-3. Angel DI MARIA did not take part in training due to muscular fatigue but Rodrigo PALACIO is back. Fernando GAGO was a substitute. Here was the team.

ROMERO; ZABALETA, FERNANDEZ, GARAY, ROJO; PEREZ, MASCHERANO, Maxi; MESSI, AGUERO and HIGUAIN

Dammage7- We Do not have the players to play the 5-3-2! Period.
It did not work against Venezuela, Bolivia or Ecuador.
The only chance we have is to play to our strengths.
This is NOT the Copa Libitadores! The teams are better here.

i am also waiting for that formation. our best midfiels is perez-gago-masche-maria. out success in this wc depends to a great extend on whether perez plays in the first eleven or not.

ricardo alvarez is a very skilled player who needs to be given a chance to play behind 2 strikers in a 4-3-1-2 setup.

5-3-2 worked for holland vs spain due to spains style, all thier goals were counter attack.

if holland played 5-3-2 vs bosnia it would have been same problems we had as bosnia are not a pressing team.

i still think 5-3-2 will work vs a good team but only if perez is there for maxi and perez and di maria really push forward too

plan b vs Nigeria makes sense to rest players and avoid injury however i also think the best team should play for continuity and grow together as an 11. chopping and changing disrupts this alot

@Caniggia

Glad you watched that Argentina-Germany 2012 match again. Don't worry, Perez or Maxi is an upgrade over Sosa.

You know, against Iran, we'll almost certainly field our best 11. Then against Nigeria. I really hope Sabella uses the plan B (since we will have qualified by then).

And I hope the plan B is 4-3-3 with Palacio in it. I want to see us defending with 8 players. I want to see if Palacio does really defend as he said.

with Gago, Biglia, Lavezzi, Champag as a subs

After getting a fake penalty in the first..now Brazilian players say they have denied a real penalty...oh dear Brazilians players....that was also a fake one...your dirty tricks wont help always...!

I have to repeat my earlier comment i had before WC start...sorry for the repeat... " Brazilian players will do all the dirty things to get penalty and free kicks". FIFA and referee cannot help them every match....they have to win at least one match by their own...!

@pino, el prince

I just re-watched the Germany V Arg match in 2012 to get some piece of mind about our defence, also to see if Germany played the same way.

Arg went 442 in the first half - Germany still had solid chances to score on the break, but so too did we. Gago and Di Maria ran a LOT to match the german mid-fielders while Mascherano stayed in front of the back 4. The 4th Midfielder was Sosa and he actually did a good job keeping Mueller out of the game. And yeah, he got the goalie sent off too and I had forgotten Messi missed the spot kick.

Now, the kicker is that even after they were 1 man down in the second half - we played 433 and the Germans still had 2-3 serious shots on goal and because of the way they play, did not seem to be a man down until the end when they looked to tire.

It was clear on the expression of the fab4 they were much happier (Aguero was introduced) in 433. If we defend with 7, the bonus is that the counter attack is a little more effective - but that is the risk right? One of Aguero of Higuain definitely needs to be a "runner" (alternating both) when we lose the ball, even Messi too. I hope Sabella works out their positioning when the transition to defence happens.

I hope Gago's fitness returns before the knock out stages because he was instrumental with his running, defence and passing in that Germany game.

So, Germany did appear to attack and defend like they did yesterday in that match, only there was probably more intensity about the WC game. The other difference was that in the friendly match they used Badstuber, Bender and a younger goalie. Also, Kroos and Goetze were introduced later in the game and Mueller played on the side instead of CF.

Guled and El Pricipe

I ageee with the Palacio inclusion or even Lavezzi if we go 4-3-3, that's if Aguero and Higuain don't play defense. If not, 4-4-2 with the inclusion of Biglia, Perez or Alverez.

Italy defended with 9
Holland defended with 9
Brazil defended with 8
England defended with 10
Mexico defended with 9 and 10

And the list keeps going and going...etc.

Argentina is the only team that defends with 7, I hope Sabella works on that. Besides the defense issue we have with the 4-3-3 (7 defending), our offense is deadly with the 4-3-3.

Were looking good. No major injuries, and concerns. Just defensive duties and tactics.

I don't know what do you guys think about Argentina but after completion of all first round group matches, I don't fear any team to face against.

We'll beat any teams of any group, Probably we'll meet Switzerland in round of 16 and Belgium in quarter finals. Most probably Italy in semis and France in final. What do you think ?

Agree with elprincipe Perez is box to box that his best position his energy and all out action is something gago doesn't have but gago is more creative , I would trust Perez to partner with masch against big teams and play Ricky in midfield with di Maria , messi and higuain , 4-4-2 against top teams we will have both muscle and energy with creativity at the same time

The problem is Perez was an attacking midfielder when Sabella coached him at Estudiantes, but Perez is a born again man. He is praised by Jorge Jesus as the most difficult player to replace in Benfica this year due to his transition to box to box midfilder.

As an AM, Perez failed in Europe. He returned to Europe and won a lot of attentions because of the position change.

But I see Sabella still plays Perez as AM either in training or friendlies. Against Slovenia in friendly, he was playing AMR before shifting to box to box midfielder the last 15 minutes of the game.

This time in training, Perez was used in Di Maria's attacking midfielder position.

Why then Sabella not use Perez as DM (box to box)? Because we have already 3 ahead of him: Masche, Gago, and Biglia.

I still think at some point we will see Di Maria, Gago, Masch, Perez playing behind Messi and Higuain or Aguero. That's probably the best 4-4-2 formation.

they should go with more of a 4-1-2-3.

with dimaria and gago/perez/alvarez playing a more central mid attack formation with aguero and messi at the flanks and higuain playing as a central striker.

Go support whoever the hell you want man. You got some serious issues dude. This is football and anything can happen, just ask brazil today or Spain last week. To judge greatness or futility based on one game shows how very little you know. At this point we are not even past the group stage and you are crowning Germany or holland champions. What about we play the games and let the results play out. Better yet, why don't you go on the German or Holland site and stroke your Manschaft there.

Wow, I just read Palacio's interview. You know what he said?

"I know the starters are Messi and Aguero, but I have to be ready whenever the coach needs me. I CAN GIVE THE TEAM SOMETHING THAT OTHERS CAN'T: HELP THE MIDFIELD. I can help the team in that (covering and defending) and when we have the ball back, I can go forward and help the team to score"

Wow... I always know that one thing that Palacio has that the three forwards don't is defending. Palacio has proved that whenever starting for us.

I watched Germany defending with 9 players yesterday. Brazil did with 8 players (except Neymar and Fred). We did with 7. If Palacio enters the game for Higuain or Aguero, I am sure we can defend with 8 while at the same time keep playing 4-3-3.

Maybe Palacio is our missing link.

The second team also practice 4-4-2.
-------------------------Andujar
----Campagnaro-----Micho-------Basanta------Sparring
-----------------Gago-----------Biglia
----Augusto------------------------------Ricky
-----------------Palacio--------Lavezzi

Hope Sabella is creating our plan B.

Guled you said it. No traditional Brazilian creativity, finesse and flair in the final 1/3. The midfielders are all hustlers, tacklers, holders and long ballers. But no Rivaldo, Kaka, Ronaldinho skill level on this team to create a sustained quality attack.
We've seen time and again that the best team doesn't always win the Cup and Brazil are definitely good enough to not be the best team but still win it. They have a really good defensive team. Only way to score against them is set-pieces/penalty kicks. They have high defensive IQ allowing opposing forwards no space to create and get good shots. Mexico played well but most of their shots on goal were too long and blockable. Mexico is not a cheap team. No shame in getting a scoreless tie in a technically non must-win game considering Brazil's final game is against Cameroon.

I think Spain-Brazil matchup would be perfect. Brazil is cocky, arrogant. Spain had just suffered a heavy defeat. So it is normal if all betting go against Spain. Spain would play with no burden that day. That would expose Brazil weakness just just in 2006: over confidence.

Ochoa was the man of the match by a Light Year... He made out of the world saves against a frustrated Brazil side... Paulinho was the flop of the match,, did absolutely nothing and if scolari doesn't take him off the starting XI then Brazil will be in deep trouble...

The referee was excellent and fair in not giving penalty for Marcelo's dive... Overall a very dull game for Brazil with absolutely no rhythm...

@Baker

No need to win Baker. Draw is enough. I can't even give 0.00001% of my heart supporting them to win.

Brazil national team, Brazil fans, Brazil athletes from all sports like ANDERSON DA SILVA (SELF NICKNAMED "SPIDERMAN") all think they are god when it comes to sports. If you have time, watch youtube highlight of that guy Anderson Da Silva, you can immediately tell that he's cocky. He thinks he's the new muhammad ali.

All Brazilians have that mindset.

come on guys , let brazil win and make their confidence level higher.
the more they go high , the more they feel the pain for their fall.
and they have to be in other side of bracket

Yeah same here. I want it to be draw. As ugly as Brazil is, they need to top their group.

I don't know what you see, but I saw a bunch of rookie wearing yellow shirt right there. They play rookie football. Have you ever seen how rookie players play in the NBA? All they think just dunk and slam the ball in style.

That's how Brazil look. Totally immature. I think they should join Lebron James and Kevin Durant. They are fishing right now in the summer time.

Ochoa made the save of the tournament,, mexico is just not letting Brazil play by their rhythm... i hope Brazil reaches the final in Maracana with us but i have serious doubt over their team... Ramires,Paulinho,Gustavo are absolute jokes... only Oscar and Neymar is dragging this Brazil over the line...

C'mooooooooooooon Mexico and please GOD don't let them get an easy play or a mistake or anything that leads to them winning as often its the case.

I dont want brazil to win but then i want brazil to be in other bracket by topping the group, so its a dilemma. Hopefully they suck so bad that they had to cheat for a win or a draw.

we have the potential to be very good
in england we have a saying. " dont but square shapes in round holes"

dont play players just for them to play eg di maria, aguero

play the ones who are best for that position.

e.g ricky, palacios, perez

Hahaha Neymar..

Brazil suck. Sorry... but I have to repeat it Brazil suck! The cocky team will get beaten by Germany in the SF or maybe by Colombia in the QF. They think joga bonita still exists with 4 rookies upfront (Neymar, Fred, Oscar, Hulk/someone else).

@Tizeboule

While some of your comments make sense, I think you need to relax and take it easy. Argentina is one of the favorites because we have great individuals, who have the potential of making a great team. Did we demonstrate that we have a great time against Bosnia? Of course No. Are we expected to improve? Of course Yes. Are the Fab 4 playing together like 1 unit? No. Do we have a chance to lift the world cup? Yes.

It is a long journey but we have to take it one step at a time. I don't think we have high chances of winning the world cup but I have to believe in my team and support them all the way. It is what it is. Like you, I would not rule out the European teams, Germany, Holland, Italy, France & even Spain have similar chances to Brazil & Argentina in my opinion. Once we are in knock-out stages all matches are 50-50 when the above teams are involved.

That being said - VAMOS ARGENTINA! Let's enjoy this once in 4-years event!

@Tizeboule-- Calm the fuck down Man... it's like someone has thrown you just out of an oven..

Messi's last WC???? ABSOLUTELY WRONG... he will play for argentina in 2018 WC and if his form is right then he will even play 2022 WC..

You seem more like a german fan who thinks argentina are shit... well,, go to the german blog Man,, you have no business here.. and you obviously have very little knowledge about the WC... Germany and Brazil will only meet in the semifinal and not the final.. Holland will not face us in quarters,, they will face italy..

what the heck is in our mind??? ARGENTINA is in our mind... this Argentina will learn from it's mistakes and will improve and will play their best football in the knockouts.. you seem like an amateur fan who thinks that Blazing all guns at the start is gonna win us the WC??? this blog will be a lot more harmonious if you stop writing more and more garbage...

Palacio Bank Sabella in the press conference. He said that "the relationship with the coach is very good," said campus and coaching staff are supporting "each other" and said: "Alexander did not discuss tactics with us, but if he thinks so terrific: it means having self-criticism" .

The first half of the Argentina national team debut continues to speak. No matter if the sitting to stand up in the press conference Diara played against Bosnia, was in the bank or was left out due to injury, the theme is the same: the 5-3-2 and self-criticism of Sabella. "Alejandro did not speak it with us, but I think if he thinks so terrific. Means having self-criticism We support, we know that any coach can make mistakes," he told a press conference on Tuesday Rodrigo Palacio, who was responsible to clear any doubts saying that "the relationship with Sabella is very good, as always. We support each other. We are very comfortable with the coaching staff. And if the other day tactics changed is because at halftime was that could improve, and it paid off. "

Recovered from the ankle injury, Palacio returned to work alongside the group. . "I felt great, it was my first workout I'm very happy about that, the sprain is behind us," he said, in addition to explaining what, from their point of view, the role in the team: "I know that Messi and Aguero holders are, but I have to be prepared if the coach needs me I give you what no other can there.. helps in midfield I try to give a hand there, and when we have the ball, get to the area and score goals. "

Jewelry for the World is "pretty slick." "We saw several matches surprised lose that way Spain (5-1 with the Netherlands), but after almost no surprises. Earned all candidates," the Inter striker, who also gave their forecast ahead of the game with Iran. "Beforehand We all are difficult to do our job and have patience, we know this team can throw at any time there is a difference and that Bosnia is much more physical than Iran Surely we extremes better.. we took the weight of the debut. believe that we will make a great game. "

and I'm not done yet with all of you blind mminded

We all said that the Europeens won't get use the weather and because we're playing south america next door it's a great advantage. really? OMG

These euro folks are professional and are use to play and hostile environment and hot weather. The german coach event said this weather issue is irrelevent.

And now please tell me how the hell is playing in our backyard is advantageous when we were eliminated (not even final) in a copa America at home in our front yard? come on guys!! wake up!!!

This is Messi last world cup. MEssi is donec cause we dont do our homework by bring the best players that we have in a world cup. Mussachio, Gaitan, Fazio, yacobe, Enzo, Cambiasso, Tevez and a better Coach!

We gonna beat IRan and Nigeria easily and we are going to stand naked in front of the world, and the whole wide web & the whole wide world will look at us but naked, fat belly, and skinny legs. The German will rip us up, torture argentine, the netherlands will finsh it cause we are stubborn.

I'm freaking mad to see my team plays like that! and again sorry I don't beleive in miracle. I believe and doing your homework and bring the best that you have physically ( enzo, Tevez, Mussachio aguero messsi) tacticly(4-3-3) and last but not least if not the most important: Mentally, freaking beleive you can and going to beat anybody, freaking have proud and feel bad when play poor, freaking have the same passion that's going to help Brazil win this cup despite their obvious weaknesses

Germany is going to elimate argentina in semi final if not the Germans it's going to be Holland in quater final.

I used to be blind and fanatic but now I see and I'm realistic. Guys we don't have a team that can go far. Diego admits it. it's going to take a long time before we can see Argentina win a world cup.

You guys kept talking about fab4. Yes we have 4 excellent attacker but we dont have an excellent attack as a unit.

Dimaria looks tired, confused, can't pass accurately.
Aguero played poorly, Messi is coming again from behind to get the ball cause we do not have a good midfield.

Sorry argentines, I can't bet on this team. Can someone tell me when was the last time they saw fab4 playing effeciently together?

Guys wake up!!! don't you see all the space we let in the middle? Had Bosnia be a better team like USA, Ghana, we would have conceived many goals. It's freaking scarryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to see us playing so poorly and here on mundo we are thinking this team can go far!!!

When you don't have a Gaitan, an Enzo that Sabella refused to use instead of Gago, When Masherano don't have the help of a Cambiasso in the middle, when Higuain and Aguero are not defending, how in the world could you all freaking expect this sluggish team to go far.

What the heck are you all smoking!! What the heck is in your all mind.

This team can't pass quaterfinal period.

Germany vs Brasil final

End of this discussion period

"To those who don't like me, you have no idea how much I don't care because you don’t exist."

Of course he lives in a fantasy world, where there is no no person exist to disagree with Maxi Lopez.

BTW Maxi, at worldcupblog when everyone were calling David Trezeguet a traitor, you said that he was not a traitor and you know Trezeguet's sister personally. You said that Trezeguet choose France for different reason
and you will tell the story later, but you never told.Would you tell us the story now?I think everyone will appreciate that.

@Maxi-- i have tons of respect for you... Remember the name Tanvir from Worldcupblog??? Your writings against Grondona and his lynchpins was a deeply insightful and shows the real scenario of AFA where Dirty Money is the priority and not futbol... But i do think it's time that you end your bizarre fantasy...

Sabella didn't want to kill anybody... if that was the case then we wouldn't have even qualified for this WC.. not only did we qualify,, we stood 1st among all the south american nations... Sabella devised a system in which messi plays to his true potential and also strengthen our defense significantly... Give the man SOME credit and please don't call him a muppet or anything... If you don't like the coach then you can criticize him but throwing him insults will only decrease your respect...

"Maxi Rodriguez, such a clever player in terms of movement, completely lost in this chaos, must have had Pekerman’s memories flashing in his head when he was beautifully turning around Roman"... STOP LIVING IN 2006... Maxi is not
