The most productive WC so far, with a high entertaining and tight game, Sabella will start with 5-3-2 as the situations need it. Vamos Arg.

I hope Sabella watched Spain and Uruguay. U cant take ur eyes off for a second in these WC games...The Bosnian team we played last time may not be the same team in the WC. You know what i Mean! I hope our boys especially in the back keeps it really tight the whole 90+ mins. Lets grow in each game. I am worried bout Romero.

when it's about your country, your home soil...there is no choice,,,

it's like cricket in Bangladesh...if it's Us vs Pak...we go for us...no 50-50, 70-30...we would want them to die on the pitch just to win the match

No problem with that,,,we are never going to respect a pakistan Cricket team....never

i understand what you are saying and im another Argentine born in Hurlingham b.a but was adopted to n.z at 3 years old but im always Argentine no matter where I live and I always will be.

I agree with you and I don't hate engl or brazil as people or countries but I despise their football teams and take great delight when they lose as I know they also do when we lose.
I always back any one playing against either of them to win and always will.

the Thinker just got it wrong but I do hope he stays and keeps writing as he writes some fantastic football write ups and I do enjoy and really respect his footballing writing/knowledge.

@ Baker, elpipita, Hugo8, & Shafat....I agree with you all and thanks for your insights. I just want to add perspective to this rivalry thing because it has been taken way out of context by Some people. When we talk about how we hate Brazil or England, it's purely from a football angle. We don't wish harm, death or misfortune to these people other than wanting to see our team beat their team. Nothing more, nothing less.

That's why when I read TheThinker's comments, I realised he didn't understand the concept of sporting rivalries, more so when it's your own country involved and the immense passion it invokes. But when he called us idiots for it, that's when my passion took over because that shit is just out of line. He needed to be made aware of the damage such a comment can make because if there's one thing you don't mess with, it's sporting passion especially when the albiceleste are involved

Anyway, more than happy to move from this and happy to call it a truce with TheThinker.

We all share the same love here for our fantastic team so.....Vamos Argentina carrajo!!!!

Thanks for all the congrats guys!

The mood here has completely changed. Until yesterday nobody believed the Netherlands would play more than 4 games in the WC. After the unbelievable result against Spain people are hoping for a better performance than 4 years ago...

The players are not over confident. It's just one game won, six to go."We haven't won anything yet." The right attitude. I am happy at the number of goals scored so far in the WC and disappointed about the referees. Mexico should have won 3-0 and Croatia should at least have one point.

Just to avoid any confusion: I hope with all my heart Argentina wins the world cup.

Hatred is a dirty word. Rather put it this way, its a matter of pride for the argentines.

You can talk shit about argentina's economical situation, you can talk shit about their food, their place and so on but you can never look down on argentine football. That's when shit gets serious.

El principe had some very valid and logical points but thinker spoke from different point of view. Let's move on. Its about time to destroy bosnia baby.

I am not an Argentine, I've never been to Argentina and apart from a couple of friends and a one time special lady I've never been associated with the argentine culture.
With that being said no matter how much we (as in non-argentines) love the albicelestes we can never stand toe to toe with true blooded Argentinians like Seba, GAB etc. IMO.
I remember 4 years ago when I got together with 3 Argentinian friends of mine and we watched that ill fated Germany QF; we were all distraught but I noticed something different when I looked at their faces.
See for me when the albicelestes lose I feel very sad, truly sad, as much as if Iraq were to lose a match (no exaggeration!) but at the end of the day I would move on because I got nothing at stake when it comes to Argentina, but for an Argentine there is more than just football at stake, there is national identity and pride because football is one of the things that Argentina excels at and when the albicelestes lose the country loses a little piece of itself I feel.
Perhaps I'm just reading too much into this but that's what I saw when I looked into my friends' eyes after that match.
It's late and I'm starting to ramble, so please ignore me and carry on!

My mum is Argentine my Dad is English. and let me tell you hate gets you nowhere i dont care about cultural prejudice. Do you think Messi hates Brazil?, no he doesn't, A true person whether be he be Argentine, Brazilian or English should not hate but rise above hate.

We are all human beings, If Brazil is better than Argentina we should say well done Brazil you are the better side, this is all ego. I am cheering for Argentina because i love the style and i truly believe we are best team in this years tournament.

Enough with all the pride, i even saw el Principe quoted "he who humbles himself shall be exalted and he who exalts himself shall be humbled"; Why not put this into practice?

Yes i was not raised in Argentine culture, yet i am entitled to my opinion.

@Gab and @ TheThinker : You guys both are having some valid points.
let me put this way , for a person like me who is born and brought up in india which don't have geographical connection with argentina and there is no similarity in the culture and there are other million differences..

You cant expect us to think in the same way as a person who is in argentina , we love Argentinian football madly and by reading about the rivalry with england and brazil , those rivalry also grown with in our mind since we started supporting argentintian football.
But the intensity of that hatred cant be match with those who are in argentina.
So lets keep this discussion civil and can we move on please....?

I am not sure what triggered this topic , if it is regarding how brazil can be out of tournament early , yes i love to see that . But can chile can do that....? or With current spain squad...? i am not sure but i really want them to be out of the tournament ASAP.

Its just my personal opinion , fell free to disagree.

@Gab

I am glad we have real Argentines here like you and pep and some others. We need you guys. This site would be no fun if just foreigners are here.

That's one of the things why I respect Sebastian Garcia, our admin. He's an Argentine writer. Although I myself am not an Argentine, but I was living there for while. I just love the people, the culture, the food (asado), and especially the football team (although I can never tell you whether I am a Xeneizes or a Los Millonarios. 15 years ago, I wrote an article called "and God created Argentina" due to my love to Argentina.

These Argentines are just special. Their personality, their passion for football is just amazing. In this whole world, the greatest rivalry in the whole sports in not Barcelona vs. Real Madrid. It's not Boston Celtics vs. LA Lakers. It's not Juventus vs. Milan. It's not Manchester United vs. Liverpool. It's Boca Juniors vs. River Plate. So that tells us how special Argentines are when it comes to become a fan of something.

I know for sure some other South American countries especially Brazilian people don't like Argentines. One time I was wearing this Argentine jersey to an International meeting where all Brazilians wore their yellow shirt. They don't like anyone wearing Mundo Albiceleste shirt seriously. Those Brazilians are nice, friendly etc, but when it comes to football, they think they are the god and everyone must love their football.

Last month I was in Dubai having an International day where people from many parts of the world took part. There was no Argentina side, though. So then I met an Argentine couple visiting the event wearing Argentina shirt. I came up to them and told them how I love their country and the people.

Anyway, I am just glad having the same mindset as most of the real Argentines as there are many good teams, there are many beauties in football, but we only love one team: Argentina.

Well put Gab

That's what an Argentine would say. What you say pretty much show the difference between a foreigner fan loving Argentina and true Argentine (Born in Argentina and raised with an Argentine culture).

You guys have the right to love Brazil or other South American countries, but we are NOT idiot just because we don't care about them or if we hate Brazil or England.

And we certainly won't call you "idiot" just because you love other South American countries. We're just explaining why we don't need to love other South American countries.... if we already have Argentina.

What I want to add is:

This is a real World Cup. 15 goals in 4 matches a ration of 3.75 goal in each match. Its an amazing start!

What I realized after the match of the decade was that experience doesn't always work if it doesn't match the physical ability and the tactical system.

Now three of the most overhyped defenders didn't look solid in the real test a good sign for our turbojets.

But I have to congratulate my fellow Dutch, I lived there for a while and I am happy for them, not forgetting Richard as well!

However, what matters now is:
Vamos Argentina

@The Thinker, get off your high horse and stop preaching your shit. And above all, lighten the fuck up dude. The fact that you have to ask the question 'how can you hate your rival' shows that you don't understand what it is to be a true Argentine (Born in Argentina and raised with an Argentine culture). Yes you may be a robust fan of Argentina and that's great and that's what Mundo is all about. But for you to have the audacity to call people on this forum 'idiots' because we hate Brazil or England is out of line. You are disrespecting the true Argentines on this site. Stop preaching shit about something you know nothing about.

I enjoy reading some of your posts because you seem knowledgeable about football. Stick to commenting just on football please because you have no concept of true Argentina culture and above all, you have no idea of what it feels like to have Argentina blood flowing in you, literally, because if you did, then you wouldn't have to ask such stupid questions about rivals.

Great games to watch yesterday, loved it!

Spain vs Holland- some fantastic goals in there. Congrats Richard - you must be a pretty happy fella! Robben looked very lively, and showed very good pace. I thought young Blind was very good - disciplined, and 2 very good crosses that lead to goals. Impressive chap. Spain looked short on ideas , and Holland really took the initiative in the 2nd half and laid a beat-down. I doubt if Del Bosque will make massive changes to the team for the next game.

A note on the 5-3-2 that Holland played. Van Gaal has been playing this formation since Strootman got injured, so they have been using this for the last few games.

It's 1 game. Spain might still eek out a couple of 1-0 wins and squeak through for all we know. Holland might look less impressive in the next game! Let's wait and watch!

Chile -Australia : Impressed by the young Aussie team and the spirit they showed. I thought they organised themselves pretty well after going 2-0 down. The 3-1 final scoreline flatters Chile more than it should (just like the Brazil Croatia game). The group is set up well now!

So far looking at brasil and chile matches with holland today i dont think temperature and climate of s.america can play a vital role. Atmosphere in the croud and mentalitily and discipline of squad is main trumpcard for this mega event. This is an opening game, Chile will get better in the tournament..Spain wont beat Chile..Spain needed hand ball goal from Villa to defeat lowly EL Salvador..lol..I doubt Spain will score more than 2 goals against Australia..Why is Jorge Sampaoli playing Midel as a defender, the guy is a midfielder..Spain can pack there bags and go home, they already look burn out in just one game...Busquet is slow, Xavi is slow, Inietsa is slow..What did you guys expect, I told you guys before that Holland would beat Spain, but no, I was in over my head...Carlos Puyol was the backbone of Spain winning team last world cup, he was the one defending his heart out after those 1 - 0 scoreline by Spain.

Spain is done

Holland will get eliminated before the semis.

Problem with spain is they are to robotic, to much precision easy to read and predictable. They think too much... you need to play with intuition, the eye and speed. They want to take their time and mentally outsmart you; you need to take chances in football. I think spain were more daring in past tournaments now they want to contain too much instead of fast release. Argentina is opposite we play with speed and daring i think we can win world cup; i think we can also outclass the dutch.

formations are just starting positions....once the ball is moving the concepts of 1st/2nd/3rd defender (pressure, cover, balance, depth) and 1st/2nd/3rd attacker (ball, support, runner, depth) take over. Everything becomes relevant to the ball.

For instance, you can play a flat back 4 (which should never be completely flat), the ball comes in to an opposing forward's feet who checked of the line into the space between your defensive and midfield lines....one cb (centre half for the English impaired) goes with the attacker to keep him from turning, the other cb drops to provide depth, and the 2 outside backs (fullbacks) squeeze in to provide cover and balance so the attacker doesn't penetrate on the dribble or split all 4 with a through ball. Now it looks like a diamond.

Formation is in the eye of the beholder, one man's 4-diamond-2 is another man's 4-3-1-2, one man's 4-3-1-2 is another man's 4-3-3....it's more important to focus on how players are deployed within a setup and their "playing partners" within that setup than a shape that constantly changes depending on how the game dictates it.

With today's constant interchanging of players and positions during the run of play, the "formation" has become a bigger fallacy than ever. Shape changes on whether or not you have the ball, where the ball is, and what the opposition is doing. And the situation of the game/competition (score, time left, result needed, etc).

i used to play professional league football in the mid east. Not that is something to brag about but mentioning it to clear some facts. would be much obliged if everyday somebody stops trying to teach me what is south american and what is european.

this will be a very high scoring WC,, it will break all records.. Spain learned absolutely nothing from last year's mauling,, they still kept playing with same old players and same old system and got a big slap in their faces.. Robben and Van Persie ripped apart Spain inside out...

Spain will go out disgracefully like France 2002,, Chile will meet Brazil in 2nd round.. this will be a Latin American WC i have absolutely no doubt and Brazil will meet Argentina in the Maracana that is for sure... Holland may finish highest among the Europeans.. the Europeans will be finally dethroned this year...

Chile was giving Kid multiple orgasms until claudio bravo handed the match control to australia.

Louis Van Gaal is the most dangerous and well experienced coach here in the brasil world cup and i hope sabella can compete against the best.

Chile defense is weak. Brazil would humiliate them should they meet. Plus they play like Barca, ball possession. It doesn't match Brazil game.

Brazil need to face a team with strong defense. I am not saying Spain defense is strong, but I want them to finish runner up.

Exactly what I was worried from:

- Gago isn't fit, and it looks like Biglia injured wasn't that soft after all.

- Higuain won't make the game, and of course we have no sub for him. Had Tevez been called for these scenarios ?! (I wish it just worked out)

- Hopefully Kun doesn't get any injures, but as I said before most likely he'll play this game then get rested until the next round.

I don't support either Chile or Colombia..I do live in Florida, which have a lot of Colombians living here, Chileans living here, Brazilian living here,Uruguayan living here,Argentinian living here etc..I have Colombian friends here, I had a friend from Uruguay but he moved back for his retirement, I have Chilean friends here and Argentinian friends here..I never had Brazilian friends though..

I am not on this thread supporting Chile or Colombia..But what is the BIG deal if I say Chile will go through..You guys on here just fall over European teams and players all day, well not me....I don't care for none Argentinian players, that just me...

What wrong wit casillas...???!!! He didnt get any protection frm his players... For 3rd goal he was fouled... When it made sure dat they lost he lost his presence of mind n presented de ball for RVP 2nd, datz de big mistake he done... Otherwise he is not fault for any goals i feel, nd also saved 2 sure goals 1 at de start frm schneider n 1 at de last... Pique-ramos pairing was de worst imo...

FYI you know why we lost in 1994? People say it's due to Maradona's drug.

I tell you one other factor no one ever mentioned before. We lost because of a country called COLOMBIA. What do I mean? In the WCQ 1994 Colombia beat us at Argentina 5-0 and the goalie was the legend Goyco.

Because of that, Basile chose Luis Islas (the worst Argentina starting goalie ever) to start in the whole World Cup 1994 and bench Goyco.

The result was: Islas made a blunder and was extremely poor when Romania beat us 3-2 in the second round.

See everything starts from another South American team.

Thanks for the info btw Baker.

Spain, you punch them in the mouth and they quit!

all that tiki taka nonsense didn't get them anywhere.

So much for Costa, the missing piece of the puzzle.

Spain mistake: they wanted to dominate play with the left and right back high up the field. That means Ramos and Pique are one-on-one with Robben and Van Persie. That's suicide.

Argentina needs to keep Zabaleta and Rojo at the back to prevent our center backs are left one-on-one. Fernandez, Demi, Garay and Basanta are good defenders but one-on-one against fast attackers they will be all over the place. That needs to be avoided.

Van gaal is offensive coach naturally but today. He played 5-3-2 and it served him well, this is classic sabella tactic, we have the players to excute it, our defense will be protected, as wenger said we can't get it wrong this time we just can't , this our cup , vamos argentina

Richard, pique is way slower thanargentine dfndrs n ramos is not at all looked as a central defender for me... Also busquests weakness to intensive games we all know... Masche, garay, fede, basanta all r better dan dis espanians... Also i wud say dis spain's style f football suited dutch game very well, no any guarantee u get dis kind f result against chile or australia...
Bt i very very much agree wit romero issue... Itz really a big worry now...

And if you ask them about what team they hate? They will tell you Brazil and England.

Everybody is blaming tiki taka strategy. But I don't consider it as a reason of Spain's demolition today. They got it all wrong in defence. Zero understanding between Pique and Ramos. Poor display by Casilas. Pique and Ramos both were toyed by Robben today. Casilas made a mistake in Vrij's goal and a blunder to concede Persie's second goal.

Bad decision to play Costa and Silva in the first 11. They just could not fit in the system.

Sabella did not relay on prez, richy and relay on maxi and goga and result????
Holand played 3-5-2 and argentina played 5-3-2 in training!!!! I'm afaired

Kid, Spain got this whole tiki taki from Argentina. They claim in Spain that they got the tiki taka from the Dutch, Cruyff in particular. But yes I agree interesting point there. Argentina were the first to display a glimpse of tiki taka under Bielsa, then the Peker Boys also added trickery to tiki taka. Cambiasso goal vs Sebia is perfect example.

Richard I don't know about you, but I've always said Argentina had better defense than Spain..look at the midgets Spain and Brazil have on both wings..

People underrate our defense because we don't have players in Man United, Chelsea or Real Madrid..

Holland will not rip Argentina defense apart, keep dreaming, Argentina is no Spain..

Spain never learn from the thrashing they got from Brazil last year..

Please do not get overconfident. Players like Robben and Van Persie will rip Argentina's defence apart. Fernandez, Demi, Basanta and Garay will be too slow to keep up. Even Ramos and Pique were nowhere.
Argentina forwards will rip Dutch defence. A high scoring game if they meet. Given the history between these two sides thing do not look good for our beloved team.

Lesson for Sabella: keepers that do not play at their club lack rhythm. Julio Cesar showed it yesterday and Casillas today. Please play Orion.

This is wat says shud rspct de opponent... And pique-ramos at CD is recipe for disaster... I actually thought ramos will b RB...

None of the Argentines will be comforted if any South Americans win the World Cup, believe me. What Argentines want is the World Cup.
