Albiceleste Fun at Belo Horizonte

Argentina held a public training on Wendesday in front of 5,000 noisy fans, playing some entertaining football-tennis and showing off some skills.

They were in for a surprise though as some fans managed to evade security and run onto the pitch to meet the players, mostly Messi. One of them, wearing red, kneeled down to "polish" his shoes, then gave him a hug. Lionel, amused by the gesture, gave him his training sweater.

The bigger surprise which made headlines was a Ronaldinho look-alike who also ran to greet Leo. His hands were all bleedy as he had scratched them on the fence while making it onto the pitch. Upon seeing him, all the players laughed as he was dragged out by officials and away from the players.

Fun times at the Belo Horizonte Independencia stadium as the Albiceleste train in good spirits ahead of their World Cup opener against Bosnia on Sunday. Though i hope security could take extra measures from now on to prevent such pitch invasions to ensure the safety of the players.

Enjoy the videos and pictures below.

@San Isidro....

Listen Bud...We are in the same team and I dont want to poke finger at u...I wouldnt if u didn provoke me in the first place...

U ll have to understand this site is for all of us. U are the only 1 whinning about it as u can see no one else is judging. I have the right to post anything that is not provocative. Its completely your opinion. And the most funny part is why I would post something like that? I wouldnt go and randomly post a Fantasy Team here...I was sharing with the other 2 who posted there Fantasy team before me and my post was meant for them...If u don like it don read it..and its even funnier that you chose to Bash the last person to post the Fantasy team out of 3..The other 2 are very good members of this site and they have shared so many intelligence in this site, sometimes u need to do some silly stuff thats human nature...I know Its not my Fantasy team thatts bothering you its the Brazil Players I chose...Isn that right? Well I am a blind Argentina Supporter Since i had my knowledge in 86 but I respect good players around the and I respect my cules and there thoughts...So please next time do not single out one member and bash em for silly reasons. Have respect for others. Loosen up! Fantasy team is just for fun...its nothing serious. Now lets stand behind our team and kick some ass. Good Luck to u and our team!

@The Thinker:

This Brazil team have tow things in their side:
1. The home advantage (including the fans, and the whole atmosphere which they are used to)
2. FIFA advantage (including the referees, and the whole corruption that comes with it)

Two things concern me the most here:
1) we need to play with regular 11 players, and haven't started doing it for a long time. We keep changing our starters every time based on injuries and formations.....The players have to click together by playing many matches before going to the knockout stage.

2) It seems that Higuain's injury is worse than what we thought. He will probably get fit when this whole tournament ends. Sabella should have gone with another striker instead....many coaches had to exclude power house players based on their form/injuries and refrain from gambling. Higuain always takes a longer time for his injury or form to start again. At this point, although it`s too late, but honestly another striker should have been selected instead. I just keep hearing fantastic four. When was the last time we have seen them playing together......

so you guys thinks Higuain is going to start? He aint starting cause that will be very risky.

my concern on Sunday is Lavezzi. The guy can't finish the play. he's dumb running around like an ortega maniac and waste our chances to score.

Palacio is injured our best sub for higuain so you guys telling me to chill come on!!!

I can't

Gago has play in any league for the past 12 months

Romeo either

and you telling me to chill !! I can't

the idea of Rojo as Left back and FF in the middle is muchissimo !! scary.

I just wish we had Nico Gaitan to in the middle.

I just with the tall and captain of villareal my man mussachio was in our defense

I just wish health Tevez would sub Higuain!!!

I can't chill guys

I just wish Caballero was goalie

OMG I'm freaking scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@kid: There are "news" reports that suggest Higuain will not start, some that state that he will not start due to his ankle still not being 100%, others that state it is due to Lavezzi beating him out for the spot based on what Sabella wants to do tactically. I think this is all intentional on the part of Argentina to keep the media guessing, and in turn, their opponents.

@Mafioso: They have no shame in that family. Gutter mentality. "If I am not doing well, I need to drag everyone down with me."

The Key for last night game was Croatia's goalkeeper. He seemed confident but failed to stop all three weak shots on the goal although his finger tips touched all of them. The first Neymar goal was a weak horizontal ball with no acceleration. The penalty was taken poorly by Neymar, and the third goal had same elements as the first one. Croatia could win the game if they had a decent goal keeper. This is how important the goalkeeper to any team. Brazil studied the goalkeeper really well by knowing he's really good in high balls but amateur in ground leveled shots. At the end of the day, mission accomplished by Brazil, thanks to the referee for saving them from an embarrassing opening game.

Breaking news!!! Higuaim is injured therefore wont play on sunday which means we are stuck with Lavezzi up front cause Palacio is injured too.

Argentina is in serious danger. Bosnia is no average joe team guys! they say they gonna play very physical. We are not going to have our best forward we have a slow gago in the middle. I know Sabella is stubborn and won't play Enzo instead of gago.
Federico and Rojo shouldn't even start but clearly our formation is gonna include them.

Guys guys wake up stop messing with europeen teams they are very disciplined do not panic like we often do when we are loosing, and

argentina is going to have a tuff match

who knows what the outcome willl be!

We serioulsy nedd Dimichelis, Basanta Enzo or Cmpagnaro to help Masherano

They had a simulation on ESPN on group F and it was funny how they had the Bosnia defender all leaving the ball behind them allowing Palacio to be by himself with the goal keeper...lol

Uh, saying that having a fantasy team means you aren't rooting for your own team or that it weakens your love for your team as a fan is like saying reading about or studying the history of other religions for enjoyment somehow weakens your faith in your own religion (or lack of). It's mindbogglingly poor logic. Also, it isn't an exclusively American phenomenon, it is also very common in Europe.

There were several posts about fantasy teams and playing as a group to enjoy the cup, and everyone I am sure has maxed out with the 3 allowable Argentinean players on their teams in building them. The posts are relevant because there was a discussion about fantasy group for Mundo that many people wanted to participate in. I must confess that I was quite pissed when I could only pick 3 Argentinean players, however.

As for rooting for other countries players - that's a bunch of malarkey. Simply because I was happy that Zidane won in '98 over Brazil that makes me less of a fan of Argentina? Or that somehow liking players from one of my favorite clubs, whether in be in Europe or South America, who is not Argentinean is somehow disloyal? So the River Plate fans who rooted for Francescoli are fake Argentinean fans?

I too am from Argentina. But I like to see guys like Yaya Toure do well. I want to see other South American teams do well, especially Chile and Colombia since they have Argentinean managers. I have an overall appreciation of the game and the world's players. I just appreciate Argentina's much much more. And none of that makes me less of a fan of the NT.

I never bought this "Brazil's defense is good" thing. They have three quite unreliable players there: Marcelo, Dani Alves and David Luiz; they are all mistake prone and unstable, they can give away a game at any moment.

I can say the same about Sergio Ramos. I don't care how good he is, but in a tournament like this a mistake or a red card can send you packing.

I am very happy with our defenders, they may not be very flashy but they are level headed and we don't have to worry about a meltdown.

FF got a knock it seems

The center suffered a bruised left thigh and left practice. It does not seem serious, but ...

The bad news for football practice in the Cidade do Galo was Federico Fernández injury. The center of Napoli suffered a bruised left thigh in a collision with a teammate and immediately left the training as a precaution. Entered his replacement Martin Demichelis, who stood as a sweeper team that was playing with the 5-3-2, the scheme he likes to coach and that testing in the last friendly against Slovenia.

The injury of defender does not seem serious, but the coaching staff want to wait to see if the evolution is in top condition for the debut, since it will have the difficult task of fighting the giant Dzeko scoring chart rival. And wear, logically, not less. If the injury Federico, Pachorra henchman (as directed and enhanced in students; gave head with Celeste y Blanca to anoint holder), ends revealed as more important than reported yesterday, its place in the debut will occupy Micho . What a race in the last days of the leader of Manchester City. Surprise among the 30 to get a place among the 23. Obtain passage to Brazil first parts in the rear. Now if Fernandez holder fails to Sunday at 100%. It will be seen in the coming hours.

@Leonard - True that! Bless her :-). And yeah, the opening ceremony was just torture. I can't decide which was worse- the opening ceremony, or watching the boring brazilian midfield.

@ Shafat -Agree. Can't judge teams so early, especially on the basis of opening games for all teams. 1990 argentina, 1994 - Germany (narrow 1-0 win against Bolivia), 2010 Spain all immediately come to mind and really too early to write any team off, or over-rate any team on the basis of 1 performance.

The game yesterday showed that every team has weaknesses. It all depends on the day and preparation, how well a team can execute their gameplan and exploit the weaknesses of the other team.

@shovwar

I will not have a rebuttal for every single one of your points bud. But what I will tell you is my point of view on posts like yours.

There are plenty of soccer/football sites on the web. I visit this one because I believe that the significant majority of people on this site are well informed. When I see a post like yours, frankly I view it as immature, ignorant, and borderline offensive. You are right, I don't have to read it. But I would urge you to look at what you are posting before you post it. There are dozens of members here that write incredibly detailed and well informed posts that educate us. Saying things like Michael Bradley is "my fantasy wc team" , your words, not mine, or Casillas belong anywhere is downright silly.
Again, I apologize for being harsh, but there needs to be some level of intelligence and acumen in what we post. Aside from that point, the entire "fantasy" team is an American phenomena having lived here the majority of my adult life. Having grown up in Argentina, I was always taught that your team is your team, and you support them. I thought that is why we are all on a site called Mundo Albiceleste. I can tell you as an Argentine, even in our darkest days when we were lining up Abel Balbo I never once pined for another country's player...ever, and the entire fantasy thing wreaks of pining for other players in my opinion. That is why I am so opposed to it. I am glad that you are an Argentina fan, so enjoy the world cup.

Mafioso you are right about croatia. Specially i rate Lovren really high that guy can still be a big thing as his career proceeds.

But collectively Bosnia far better team. Imposing physically ..well disciplined. Compact and tactically sound.

That's what makes bosnia more dangerous than croatia. Also croatia played without any decent striker. jelavic was a joke.

yes i watched the match. you would do well to see my previous comments.

and naive cause

brasil's defence was nervous and shaky bit times but that doesn't make them suddenly team with best def to worst defence

just like if argentina concedes a goal against bosnia , it won't mean we are bad in defence. argentina has as good a defence as any other team.

still way to go in the tournament. lets not judge brasil's defence just yet

and i would like to ask everyone not to call the head of our defenders if they concede a goal against bosnia.

Keep and calm and believe in garay zabaleta fernandez rojo.

Vamos argentina

In 2006, Ronaldo showed up overweight and they had fun in the group stage before they were beaten by themselves.

Luis Felipe Scolari makes Brazil returns to ball possessions team. In 2010, Brazil was one of the best counter attack teams, but this time they return to their original DNA: ball possession.

For me it just shows pride, that's all. They believe, actually what I am trying to say is the coach believes that, just like in 2002, they can win against anybody while at the same time playing joga bonito.

Well in 2002, they had all the human resources for it. I am not sure about this year.

If Argentina have as many as 8 starters from the winning team gold medal Olympic 2008 and build the team around that winning team. Brazil just have one player from the starting team of Brazilian team that lost 3-0 to us in the QF of Olympic 2008. The player is Marcelo.

Other than that, Brazil completely rebuild the team and did not have trust whatsoever on the Olympic 2008 team.

The Olympic 2012? Well they have just 5 players from the silver medalist Brazilian Olympic 2012 team.

They had a great tournament last year in Confed cup, but as many believe that they are the tournament favorite for this World Cup, I say that they are three words:
1. Over Confident
2. Raw
3. Lack of experience

They are full of energy as most of them are either below 30 or desperate to prove the world that they are better than many people think they are (such as the likes of Fred, Hulk, or Oscar), but experience factor will be the key here for me when it comes to big games.

Their fantastic four is new to the World Cup. The whole starting 11 just start to play together from 2013 roughly.

Their best starting line up of 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 are all different. I must say completely different. I know Scolari is doing good in always starting the same starting 11 since their 2013 Confed Cup victory, but overall I don't think the team is that experienced.

This team announced the team about a month ahead of June 2nd final 23 rosters deadline. The coach blatantly let the world know that they are the 5 times WC Champion. Their style of play was just arrogant to me yesterday. They think they could dominate anyone and win.

Their arrogance will be a boomerang to them.

The case of Brazil 2006 is going to repeat this year.

Spain lost their first match in 2010.But did they play bad?Not really. They had the possession and went for goal many times but could not score and Switzerland scored that goal out of pure luck.

Here today,Brazil has played bad, they looked vulnerable at defense and other than Oscar midfield was very poor, hulk and Fred were not impressive either. They needed luck and individual brilliance to win this match.

Scolari has a lot of work to do and I hope and believe that we don't have to say something likethis after our first match.Good luck Argentina!

argentina 2010 didn't need to score an own goals,, they conceded four horrendous goals and you are saying that they are better????

The point is,, Brazil is vulnerable at back and their midfield is useless.. Individual players like Oscar and Referees help will not always save their ass... if Brazil lost yesterday Fair and Square,, then Scolari would've made radical adjustments to this team and then Brazil would've been more dangerous... but now they've won 3-1,, Scolari thinks we can win the WC with this team,, he will get big slap on his face inevitably...

All 3 goals for Brazil were ridiculous, ludicrous. First - it was Neymar miskick, second - it is known, third - stupid slapdash shoots tip of shoe.

Spain lost their first match to switzerland in 2010 FAIR AND SQUARE.. brazil won their first match with only Oscar and Neymar stepping up and Hulk,Gustavo,Marcelo,Paulinho are worthless turtles.. they also needed luck and referees help to win against this croatia.. well i tell you,, this luck will run out very soon,, i see them going out in the semis No way they are going to win the WC with this Pathetic defense and baseless midfield.. Actually this Brazil team reminds a lot of Argentina 2010,, shitty defense but excellent individual performances always saved our day before a tactically superior Germany thumped us.. i see Germany-Brazil semifinal and i see another Maracanazo,, and this time Brazil will not even score a goal...

Yes, Brazil was not impresive yesterday. But they still can win this World Cup. Do you remember first game of Spain 4 years ago? First match is so hard always, then it is easier. And they have Neymar. We know by now - he manages to lift burden of resposibility for sure. Mexico and Cameroon doesn't take away no one of points Brazil.
But the most terrible is that dopping Beazilians fans. It is what will be pushed they up to next round.

Spain vs Netherlands will be interesting to watch... if in any way,, spain finishes 2nd in group then they are meeting Brazil in 2nd round... it will be the reverse of 2013 Confed cup final.. if Brazil doesn't meet spain then they have the chance to reach semis and there they will surely face a big team which will very likely knock them out... Yes to win a WC you need luck but Brazil needs luck to beat croatia,, it will run out very fast as they progress deeper...

Did it occur to anybody that the pitch was not good yesterday??

I found some key players failing to keep the ball in control. If same thing happens to Argentina then we have a problem.

seems like FIFA does not want brazil going out in the first round.

nevertheless this brazilian team will be out of the cup the first instant they meet a decent tactical outfit in the KO unless they improve dramatically.

Jay Lo was so damn hot. She's the best thing happened yesterday!

It looked like the home influence got over the referee, but to be precise, individual skill won the game for Brazil, they had the game changers in Oscar and Neymar and they played well.

If I would go to a comparison with our beloved Argentina, our standouts would be Di Maria and Messi!

Alves ; Zabaleta
Marcelo ; Rojo
Gostavo ; Masche
Paulinho : Gago
Oscar : Di Maria
Neymar ; Messi
Hulk ; Aguero
Fred ; Higuain

Vamos Argentina

I think Sabella is a lot starter than people think. Sabella is taking this game by game, he does not want to show al his cards up front.

Things I learned from the game yesterday:

1. Pitbull looks like a friggin mini-me version of the fat Ronaldo on steroids. He clearly has forgotten his pant size. Creepy bro, just go away.

2. The mechanical elevator which Pitbull, J-Lo and the other woman (I'm fairly certain that even J-lo has no clue who she is) got stuck. Probably because Pit-I'm-on-'roids-Bull' fat butt kept it down.

3. It would have been a much better ceremony if that giant-ass ball opened up and showed 30 Brazilian women sitting there for us to ogle at for 30 minutes.

(onto the game now)

4. If the commentator had said "baby-faced" Oscar once more than he did, I would have shot myself. Why not call others similarly too? The "douche-like" Neymar? "porn-stache" Luis Gustavo? "Dangerous-looking-but-not-really" Hulk?

5. Fred is like one of those card-board cut-outs they use as a prop to build a "wall" that folks practice free-kicks against. So. Damn. Useless!

6. Those new boards the 4th ref holds up to show the amount of added time looked bigger than J-Lo's ass. WTF!

7. Baby-face was the only one who looked decent yesterday for the home team.

8. There were numerous bad or questionable decisions yesterday. Penalty was iffy /soft. What mattered more to me - Couple of elbows that could have been punished more than just a yellow. Then came the series of bad decisions in the 2nd half- The "foul" call on Julio Cesar, the non-foul call on Brazil leading up to the 3rd goal.

8. We just have to accept that host nations will get some decisions in their favor.

9. When Mandzukic was not available, Croatia might has well have opted to play with 10 men instead. Jelavic is beyond pointless.

10. Brazil's game plan algorithm revealed:

IF Brazil has ball
THEN
Give ball to Oscar/Neymar
Don't pass to Fred under any circumstance
Make Hulk barge into opposition and take them out
ELSE
Fall down, roll around 25 times, ask for foul, beg ref for card
Get Pornstache Gustavo or Pointless Paulinho to foul opposition
Hope Marcelo or David Luiz can run fasten than their hair would allow
them to recover

10. Croatia's game plan algorithm:
IF Croatia has ball
THEN
pass to Rakitic/Modric
pray
ELSE
hope Neymar trips doing his stepovers
hope Hulk tries pointless shots
END

Croatia in fairness have midfield quality. They should have gotten creative, tested Brazil a lot more, somehow played Rakitic up further, get fouls at least, test Brazil on set-pieces. They only took the initiative in the final 15 minutes. Put pressure on those guys dammit! There's nothing to lose!

Theofile, take it easy re si. Guys, does it really matter so much if it was a penalty or not or if there was a foul before Brazil's counter attack that resulted in the 3rd goal?

Even if he ref whistled more for Brazil, the host always has a somewhat different handling from the refs, in the beginning. But in any case, I think we should be more concerned actual football performance on the pitch and our team, not with the ref and our esteemed opponents. And in this case, watching Brazil last night made me wish we were playing against them instead of Croatia. Today (hopefully also later on too) we have a much better team than Brazil.
Really looking forward for our first game. Really wish after all this years of waiting our time has come.

bad day for football :(

Croatia coach Niko Kovac:

"If that was a penalty, we don't need to play football anymore. Let's play basketball instead. It's a shame."

"We better give it up now and go home. We talk about respect, but Croatia didn't get any."

@theophilos- No, i don't think Argentina will get any extra favour from the officials what host Brazil gets. If you look at the Argentina-Germany QF match in 2006 World Cup than you could realize that the refs are not favoured any other team except host nation. Because that time we also had skillful & speedy players!

But i wouldn't mind if the refs favoured us! :)

For those asking about Higuain, at this point, no one really knows. It could really just be that Sabella is trying him out in the Dzeko role and he's healthy and starts. Or it could be that he's injured. We should know more before the match.

As for the Brazil and referee incidents, here's what I think.

If that happens to Croatia, Croatia doesn't get the penalty call. And I still think that wasn't a foul on Julio Cesar which should have been Croatia's second goal.

And that was a foul which lead to Brazil's third goal.

Either way, Croatia didn't do themselves any favors. They gave the ball away many times and their goalkeeper was pretty bad.

UnleashtheBasanta: Hey malaka Im not a Brazil fan, Im a Greek-American huge Argentina fan(and Greece fan obviously) but I try to be objective because thats what a true sports fan is suppose to be. And if Im not mistaken some of you have been criticized by mundo's hosts for your extreme views.

And for the life of me I dont understand why most of you don't support the ref on this one since this is the type of officiating that is only going to benefit Argentina, a team loaded with the type of players who will wreak havoc in opponents penalty area.

I DARE any of you to freeze frame the video below at exactly 21 seconds(not 20 or 22).

http://www.espnfc.com/video/highlights/114/video/1876213/fred-draws-controversial-penalty

And then tell me with a straight face it was "just a tug" or they were just "jockeying for position." You can't jockey when you are behind. That action is only applicable when you are side by side. And right before the Croatian defender lets his left hand go you can see a little bit of Fred's left shirt sleeve being tugged upwards meaning the Croatian really was grabbing him. When that happens to a player who is right in front of the ball 6 feet from the goal line, guys Im sorry, its a penalty. If you want to criticize the refs for not ALWAYS making these calls, fine. But when they do, they are at least legal.

"The ref saw a penalty. He gave the penalty, and he's the one who decides.

And we think it was a penalty as well.

I'm not going to talk about what the other coach said. All I say is Brazil has five world titles. So Brazil had five circuses to win five cups"

-Scolari.

I can't remember if Scolari used to talk like this in the past. This is full of pride and overconfidence.

Surely Brazil can be proud of their 5 wcs.But this an ongoing tournament, you can't borrow the dazzling moments of the past to justify your current position.I have a feeling that Brazil is going to be humiliated very soon.

If that was penalty, than we should play basketball, not football!" Croatia coach Niko Kovac said in an interview."It was a shame! The referee had different set of rules for us and different for Brazil. Shameful refereeing for [the] World Cup!"

You can put aside the penalty. Even the most passionate Brazil supporter has to admit that there was very little contact between the centre-back and Fred before he dramatically fell to the turf and realise that he can't shot and control the ball.

That's the beauty and misery of Football

Jack: It was a legitimate penalty call.

You can't fight for position when you're literally behind the player who has his back towards you and who is trying to reach a soccer ball 6 feet from the goal line. That's pulling, not "jockeying." The video shows a grab. Thats fact. Grab = fingers wrapped around. It wasn't a "touch" which is how some extremists are painting it. The distinction is important. Thus trying to guess the force of the grab is irrelevant. Common sense says no one "grabs" from behind unless to inhibit forward movement. Even if it is slight, its slight enough to make a difference because the ball was right in front of Fred.

Remember the penalty called against Spain during the quarterfinal matchup against Paraguay in the 2010 World Cup? That was literally a shirt tug. There wasn't even flesh on flesh contact. No one said a fucking thing because Paraguay missed the penalty kick and the "big" team - Spain - won the match.
