Finally got to watch the game. 2nd half then the 1st half.
My only concern is that guys like Biglia are not seeing Messi's runs into the area and supplying the return pass. They are still playing like strangers at times. I hope they start to gel within the prep period.

Of course it is, and I am sure other fans (for different teams) are saying that Argentina depends on Messi, or if Argentina won't play with the four attackers, or other stuff like that. But I am basing my judgment on what we are capable of doing against each team.

Forget to mention:

The Asian and Concacaf teams are nothing to worry about. Except getting the jinx after beating Mexico.

The African teams won't be an issue against us, even though I dreamt that Cote de Voir won the title against Brazil. But what worries me about them is that we might get an injury or two playing against them.

The South American teams will be an easy ride as long as we play with our full potential.

The rest of European teams not worth mentioning.

@dammage7:

After watching the first half of the Brazil game against Serbia I had a feeling that Brazil will not finish top of the group. But in another way, I don't want that to happen because I would rather beat them in the final than in the semi.

As for Belgium, Holland and France (after Franck's injury), I don't see them as threats at all, they'll be very easy to pass.

Spain will be the most unpredictable, they have a very strong players, but repeating what they been doing for 6 years is just not that easy.

Portugal and Russia are not strong teams, but these teams can always have a day, and I am praying that day won't be against Argentina.

Germany will always be solid, with strikers or without, with Rues or without they are the mannschaft and to be honest it is the only team (with Brazil) that I don't want to face until the final.

I hope your right, I'm also going for France, I want the German's to get eliminated. Germany is the only team that has a psychological edge on us, but with one victory over them in WC, we will get our edge back.

gago's offensive contribution cannot be denied, but neither it can be denied that his defending is lacking, and masche is left to do way too much...
many people love to point fingers out at our defense and conviniently ignore that they are left along by playing 5 attacking oriented players (including gago)

My thoughts on the game:

- I understand that we lack a solid LB, but playing Rojo as a LB all that time didn't prove anything. I wish Sabella picked a natural LB to cover that place during the qualification. We could've have a better player than Rojo in there.

- Gago proved once again how important he is to the team. Him and Messi just click perfectly. I wonder why don't Barcelona sign him, I mean it won't hurt to have him in the squad to replace Inesta and Xavi when they aren't around.

- Lavezzi have a trick or two on his pocket for the world cup, I hope he knock out big teams during the world cup.

- Nice to see Demi in the list of 23, he truly deserved it, but I hope we start with our regular Garay and Fede. No need for oh moments !!

- Di Maria and Messi done well, just lacked the last touch. Not sure if it is the ball, the ground or something else, but I am sure by practice they'll get their spark again. Hopefully it doesn't take them a long time to do so.

- Palacio, I don't wanna start that, but let us be honest here, he got the call to replace Higuain as a number 9, and he pretty much suck at it. Scoring 3 goals this far doesn't go to his favor. I am just hoping we won't need to use him, because he is not as lethal as we need him to be. I understand that we lack a pure number 9 kind of players, but Sabella didn't even bother trying others !!

- Basanta, Biglia, Enzo and Ricky are squad players, and they won't do any sort of impacts other than replacing the missing players. On the other hand, Maxi still got it. I wish we had more of his kind.

You know Argentina is blessed by having possibly the easiest group + easiest path to the final. We MUST take advantage of this.

1998 for example was the worst. 2nd round England. QF Netherlands (lost). Had we made to the semis, Brazil were there. Then France in final. It was awful.

This year it has been a blessing to be in group F. So if you expect us to meet:

2nd round France
QF Germany (if they finish second in group D)
SF Spain
F Brazil

What's the point of us having the lucky draw? I am not saying we must fear France or Germany, but I am talking about us having lucky draw advantage here.

Just like Uruguay in 2010. They had the luckiest draw among all nations. Every opponent was pretty much easy until the semis. Who even believed that they would make the semis in 2010?

Lucky draw is one of the key components in World Cup, believe it or not.

Last December, my heart was beating really fast. I was really hoping for a good draw, and the result was, I couldn't ask for a better one than where we're in.

It will be a pleasure playing either France, Switzerland and Honduras in the second round..France struggles against a Paraguay side that we brush aside in their own stadium 5 - 2..France is overrated..Sagna and Evra? LOL Those guys have been Aguero toys in the BPL since he join Man City, not to mention Sahko, who plays like he has two left foot..Then their is that defender guy from Arsenal who is nothing special..

It's funny to me that some of you guys are "afraid" of Ecuador :)

Ecuador is young and athletic.
Argentina is a well oiled machine

Young and athletic vs. well oiled machine will be like this. I found a good one:

A talented and athletic Santos player named Neymar vs. a well oiled machine Barca player named Messi.

I forgot the result. It's 5-0 or 6-0 or something for Messi's Barca.

Travis- Just FYI. None of the top notch teams had an impressive friendly recently.

Italy drew at home against an unknown Luxembourg. They conceded a goal against an anonymous team on their home soil. Apparently, their defense is worse than ours with all the names they stand up with.

England were suffering against Ecuador and it ended up 2-2!

Holland could hardly defeat Wales 1-0 with their starting lineup!

The truth is, we shouldn't judge on friendly bases, when it gets serious things will change!

hola @amigo again you're wrong, but this time you're being ridiculous. i don't see any defenders that is going to brazil who even if they get their asses together as a unit can stop kun and hig anytime anywhere, the only thing you can stop them is when/if you fouls them.
please, you can trash talk about argentina defenders and goalie, but not argentina forwards, they are the best in this world, enough said.
oh yeah, i don't think both david luiz and marcelo can even stop lavezzi and palacio either.

This England defence is poor imo... Both phil jones n smalling is not pacy too... All our defenders are better than smalling anyway... Defence will be england's worst link this WC... Smalling n johnson is poor n shaw is good in attacking but defensively is questionable...

@amigo you're wrong obviously. this team against t&t is only half the main player; zabaleta, garay (both our master at the back), kun and hig (they both would destroy brazil defense any time), these player didn't play. the team look a bit shaky, of course, after 2-3 months not playing together. so to me, it's understandable.
like i said the only concern is the goalkeeper. the subs are all fine; campa, demi, perez, alvarez, lavezzi, palacio etc they all do some good.
so i'd say, the team still have a lot of potential to reach the semi final, final and win the cup.
lets see how'd they do against slovenia. if things hasn't changed, and not gettin any better, then the team gonna have a lot a trouble then.
and i will personally trash talk them here in mundo.

Don't be so harsh on Romero. He's our first choice keeper and we can't do anything about it!
And for the truth to be said, none of our three keepers had a good season, it was a flop for all them, silly mistakes from Orion in the primera and Andujar's net was a hostel for Serie A's clubs balls.

If Romero conceded more than three goals in the first round then, we are in trouble.

Expectations are like Romero will have a hard time against Bosnia's set pieces and Nigeria's counter attacks!

Our defense should play a big role in covering Romero's ass here. Demi would be ok against Bosnia, in case if he starts, but not against Nigeria cause we'll be in trouble with his slowness!

On paper, we should lead our group with 9 points and scoring no less than 6 goals. "We already achieved that with Maradona"!!

And if we are to face Ecuador in the second round, "I hope not", we'll be physically exhausted by all means. If you watched their match against England, you'd know what I mean, England's defense if faster than ours and yet they couldn't handle the Ecuadorian blusters!

My take on yesterday's game

Not worried about messi misses. He created like billions of chances and he would bury them when it counts. Fernandez seemed a bit rusty i don't know why.

Finally in decades demichelis looked like he is comfortable with argentina and he was the leader in the back. 5 star performance.

Romero was horrible ... trinidad could not make a decent shot yet romero was about to gift them one under no pressure or at all in the 21st minute. His this kind of gaffe made argentina conceded a corner hulk goal against brazil. disappointing.

Among the forwards only Lavezzi was a let down. He missed like a gazzilion chances not only that showed no will to work the ball at all.

Gago was a crap .. he and romero was simply crap. no need to further explain.

rojo and mascherano as usual. nothing notable.

Campagnaro had a solid game. Perez looked synced with the team. Ricky Alvarez was decent too. Only concern is Lucas Biglia . did he just wake up from his dream?

Sabella showed his plans. different formations . all kinds of approaches. Decent if not spectacular. I expect a different argentina 3 days from now.

Mascherano and Palacio both with their 3rd goals with NT. Would like to describe some of my today's favourite players.

Palacio:

I think Palacio played really well. I have seen him everywhere. He scored, assisted Maxi, almost assisted Lavezzi. One time I have also seen him defending as a right back.

Messi:

Messi was great in playmaking role. But he still needs to get back that confidence in scoring. Missed two easy chances. Great free kick though.

Mascherano:

Mascherano enjoyed the game the most. He played for fun. He tackled, provided emaculate long passes, he took long shots, he scored. He is my man of the match.

Di Maria:

After Mascherano he played the best. His speed was our asset. His dribbling and energy kept the opposition defenders in real threat. He could score 1/2 goals but instead he took the decision to pass the ball. I think he should take more shots on goal. Maxi and Maria are the most efficient long shot taker in Argentina.

Frederico Fernandez:

He never placed a foot wrong. Solid game.

Maxi Rodriguez:

The game changes when Maxi comes to the pitch. I can find the team confidence rising when he is on the pitch. Great part in our counter attacking machine. He is almost a fourth striker as he tries to score a lot. I think this player will shine in this world cup. Can't believe he is already 33.

Biglia:

Played better than Gago. He looked confident which is great for our midfield. I think we should start with him against Bosnia.

after seeing the match i can say we r still short of match practise and somewhat rusty but i like the passing and we created lots of spaces though tt is nt tht good defensively i feel gago played well creatively but non-existent in defensive works his low defensive work was the reason there were some spaces to attack for trinindad in 1st half second half when biglia and perez come on we were solid i was really dissapointing with lavezzi seeing his dissapointing finish i think he mayb better playing at midfield and maxi upfront rojo was decent not tested yet though i think worst player on the pitch surely is romero though i can feel they are not giving 100% they only giving 50-60% in the game we need some improvemnt i think 4-3-3 formation doesnt suit gago maybe perez/biglia would be good choice if 4-4-2 then masche/biglia gago dimaria perez would be ideal 3 creative players with masche pure dm and perez also can help him in defensive work with messi and aguero/higuain upfront

I smelled chemistry! Yes, there is progress in the overall performance, let alone wasting the tons of opportunities came from our first class midfield consisting of Messi, Di Maria and Gago, not forgetting Masche and his long rage killers.

Messi has his free role to be a deep lying play maker sneaking into the opponents box as a false 9.

Palacio & Lavezzi are very dynamic, despite the chances they waste, they can simply cause havoc to any defense in the world. More solidity will be there once Kun and Pipita start along with Messi, where their feet will be flowering goals.

Romero wasn't tested and if he had, we wouldn't look convincing n the pitch. It either you keep your opponents away by attacking and dominating the pitch or accepting play and putting your defensive line under pressure!
There were gaps in our backyard, due to slowness!

In conclusion, it looked like our attack was "fast & furious" and our defense is "slow & curious"!

Elpipita- well said.

About Messi, he scored 10 goals in the qualifiers. And if Sabella use him the same way Messi would get goals in the WC. Nothing to worry! But i have feeling this WC would be a total team effort by Albiceleste. Kun, Pipita and Angel will take full advantage of Messi being marked heavily.

And can anyone give me a link to the game. I want to rewatch the second half again. Thx

Great, GREAT match!!!!...why? because NO BODY GOT SERIOUSLY HURT! and to be honest that's all I wanted, I wouldn't have even cared if Argentina lost (honestly!) all I wanted was for the boys to go into the world cup healthy!!

Now the good:

-Messi is in top form, healthy and hungry!!

-Dimaria in top form, healthy, hungry AND selfless!! Angel is reminding me abit of Michael Laudrup in the sense that he's a rare case where a player enjoys setting up others as much as scoring himself!

-Gago healthy and in-form. His passes were crisp and sharp throughout the first half and I noticed that Argentina lost it's cutting edge in the second half after he was subbed.

-B squad, what B-squad?!!! Seeing how palacio, Camp, Basanta, Maxi, Ricky and Enzo handled themselves one would be forgiven for confusing the subs with the starters!
Then again I shouldn't be surprised since it's those same subs that outplayed Uruguay in the qualifiers!

Rojo gave a good account of himself and had some nice 1-2s with Ricky at the latter stages of the second half.
Still he was rarely tested so I'm not going to start singing his praises but he impressed me and I hope he'll end up shutting me up completely, so much so that I will have to make a formal apology here in mundo with kidulthood shouting "I told you so" into my ears non stop!

The bad:

Well not much really, Romero had a shaky moment in the first half and that's to be expected considering his lack of match fitness, but I know that the magnificent GK that saved the team in copa 11 is still there somewhere, so I have to have faith.

On 2 occasions T&T found a way through the defense and almost scored if it wasn't for some Camp and Demichiles heroics.
Now for a such an attacking minded team like Argentina, defensive lapses are bound to happen but I just hope that the fab 4 will take most of their chances to tip the balance.

Most of you already mentioned how deep Messi was playing and that needs to be corrected; Lio needs to be hugging the opposition's chalk line almost the entire time otherwise his true potential will be blunted.

Lastly lavezzi, I really like the guy and I think he plays an important (if not a starting) role in the team but some of those misses are unforgivable!
I honestly think he missed his true calling and should've been a pure winger rather than a forward because that's where his true talents seem to lie.

All in all a good match with a good result and I would like to give a shout out to T&T's team because they really impressed me. They were fast, sharp and athletic and if they continue on this trajectory we may see big things from them in 2016.

Gago was superb in first half...... Messi momentum raising..... Rojo looks descent.... Palacia and lavezzi are world best sub.... Campagnaro somehow pleased... Romero still looks nervy ( once misunderstanding with demi). FF ,Di maria and masce as usual... Maxi, enzo and ricky lift the momentum of the game..... Lucas and basanta looks confident........ Cant wait for final. Still homework have to do . Feel finishing area is still missing. This is friendly and somehow argie proves the worth.... Opponent will sure have nightmare before they meet albiceleste in the south american pitch...... VAMOS ARGIE.....

I think this team will go far with all our starters. Romero has no business starting. I have seldom seen a player take such a nose dive in their career based on the clubs he bounced around. Really probably 25 of the goalkeepers in the WC are better than him.

This team needs to stop deferring to Messi...he will get his goals. We lost plenty of opportunities to score because of over passing.

Lavezzi needs to calm the hell down. He plays way out of control. Sabella needs to straighten out his head.

Gave Romero a 3. If a GK deals with 5 crosses effectively, that's standard, i.e. a 5.

Romero had one cross to deal with and froze. I honestly don't remember a single corner he dealt with or anything at all.
