Rumors of Ezequiel LAVEZZI being left out

Rumors are emerging that Ezequiel LAVEZZI could be left out of Alejandro SABELLA's team for the World Cup. Apparently, it has something to do with the drug test which was issued last week. These are only rumors and they could end up being false.

Yes princegi-Yes, there is a chance. If Romero stinks then Orion and/or Andujar will have an opportunity. This is why you have backup keepers.

Any chance for Sergio Romero to be replaced by Agustín Orion as the main keeper...???

Am not at all satisfied with Romero..... :(

exactly GAB. I think Enzo would play a vital role especially against the big teams in the knockout stages.

I'm really satisfied with the squad except the GK position and maybe fazio could get in instead demichelis.

Vamos Argentina

Thanks Johnny. So what is the latest on Lavezzi? Presumably, Sabella would not have included him in the list if there was a risk of Pocho being done for a failed drug test.

I hope it was simply a bad rumour started from some dick at Goal.com because Lavezzi is crucial to Argentina winning the WC, more so as a super sub.

Man, now that the WC is only over a week away and the final 23 is confirmed, Excitement is not the word for me right now....holy shit I'm pumped :)

I agree about the versatility GAB. I've always been concerned about a plan B but with Enzo Perez and Ricky on board I'm a little less concerned now.

And I'm also happy to see the drug addict Lavezzi in the 23.:)

The thing I love about this list is the versatility. Previously in the early Sabella days, I used to diss his selections because we had no plan B or C. It was a one team, one strategy fit all. Now, we have so many dynamic options for either a starting 11 or tactical change during the game. The midfield list in particular has come such a long way from Sabella's inception.

I'm no Banega hater by any means and His hype excited me however, it's a sad story of wasted talent...pun intended :) the guy was just too clumsy in the midfield with easy and unnecessary turnovers which would severely cost us against the top teams. There were more cons than pros with him and I think Sabella has got it spot on.

Bring on the World Cup!!! Vamos Argentina!!!

It's not the first time that our defense line is a source of concern. I don't think our NT has been solid at defense for a long time. We never defend that well past 1990's even when we had solid defenders. Maybe 1998 era was an exception (we used to go on for many games without conceding a single goal), but overall, the question is going to be how well can we attack!

What makes me optimistic is that we look offensively much better now than ever! Let's hope that'll be enough to make a difference. We just have to learn a way to keep the pressure on (even if say we're 1-0 ahead with 10 minutes left in the final match!). I think we'll do fine defensively as long as we don't focus on defense!

I feel worse for Sosa than Banega. Sosa, as caveman as he is, played his heart out every game and played above his level of talent when wearing the national shirt. Banega is full of talent but his lack of discipline has made him be a super sub at best and a liability as a starter.. way too inconsistent. Sabella has a good head on his shoulders.

Use his know players (ie Estudiantes) to get the team in winning momentum. Slowly introduce new alternatives. Keep the core of the team the same and allow them to develop chemistry over 2 years. Cut out players that are emotionally disruptive or have inconsistent form regardless of their talent or hype.

Sabella is going to take us far!!

Banega was left out becouse sabella preferred enzo Perez a more versatile player then him who also works hard, banega is more talented but he is not hard worker , sabella liked the hustle and energy of Perez and chose him , we have too many flair players so it is logic we need roughness and toughness in the middle

Leaving Banega out was a tough choice but probably the right one based on how inconsistent he's been for the NT.

I like Banega but he is inconsistent.

My only concern is not enough cover for defense, only 3 subs for a line that is expected to be taxed. Given the questions over Gago and Augusto I guess I understand having 8 midfielders for 3 spots, and some will be used as more defensive subs for our front line (e.g., Maxi), but I'm a little concerned.

Why is everyone happy with the selection? I can't believe Banega was left out. Gago's fitness is still in question and Banega would've been the perfect man to replace him if needed. He's played most of our qualifying games and done well. He's in good shape too. How is Augusto Fernandez chosen ahead of Banega? I would even pick Banega ahead of Biglia or Perez.

Vivas and Sosa are very similar in that they both were horrible but always won Bielsa's and Sabella's heart.

Goos that finally Sabella eyes are open today. If he wants someone who does all the dirty jobs he found a better one in, Perez. He is the one. No need Sos.

I mentioned in a previous post that banega Sosa and Otamendi would go.
Not a huge surprise. Unfortunately, I think the champions league game not only did in Sosa, but Banega also. I think that Sabella realized in that game that against top level talent, slow (Sosa) and slow and short(banega) won't get it done. Banega has playmaking ability but against top level talent his lack of pace would have cost us dearly. We won't have that problem with Enzo, Ricky, or Augusto. These guys will run all day.

In the end only Fazio and Willy were left out undeservedly. Fazio came on the scene way too late and Willy never got a shot.

Banega was a liability to the team he is careless with possession and he doesn't retrieve possession. Yes he earned us a draw in La Paz,Bolivia and scored against Italy but that's it. I'm glad Sabella noticed his weaknesses. Sosa and Otamendi were obvious suspects.

Well that took a while!! But finally we have our list and for better or for worse I will be supporting each and every single player on this squad (including Rojo & Demi!).

The good:

Very surprised to see Enzo but I guess his form has spilled over into training and now we have a hard working versatile player who can back up Gago or even start in a 4-4-2 formation against top teams (basically takes Sosa's place in the games that the albicelestes played against Germany and Brazil last year).
Glad to see Campagnero there because he's a good defender who happens to be the only backup for Zabaleta.l
I am also glad to see Ricky included because to be honest he's the only classic out and out enganche in the team and even though he plays as a winger, which I think is a mistake, he's still a talented hard working midfielder and you can't have enough of those.

Lastly Sosa is out and all I can say is THANK ALLAH!!

The bad:

Demichiles is going to Brazil and we all kind of knew that but somehow that doesn't lessen the blow for me. The guys is a disaster waiting to happen but atleast he isn't starting and now all I can do is wish him the best and pray to god that Fede and Garay stay healthy!

The sad:

Sad to see Ever being left out but his indiscipline is ruining his talents. This exclusion could be a turning point in his life, he'll either hit the bottle hard or he'll straighten up and live up to his potential and I hope it's the latter because he's got another world cup in him.
Many of you pointed out that he was Gago's backup but that's not really true, yes he can play CM but that doesn't mean that he should!
I personally saw Banega as a no.10 who could be included in the squad when counterattack is failing and a more patient, possession based football is required.

All in all I'm happy with the list and ready for the WC. VAMOS!!!

Wooow
Sun is shining in Mundo now. Bytheway yet again great decision from Sabella. I am sure that was one of the toughest decision for him. Banega was one of his pet but lately thing is not going well for Ever and he had to pay the price. Perez is great addition to our team. He can play any position in midfield and very discipline aswell and quick to pass the ball and hard working. That's why Sabella choose him over Banega. To be honest I am more confident now than before. Demichellis will add experience in our deffence and I hope he doesn't screw things up. I really want commanding performance like he did last few games for Man City. All along Sabella was ccampaigning for a balanced team and he took a well balanced team. Sabella won in his first battle and now the final one
Vamos Argentina

Not only di maria look at DM masche, biglia, perez.... This isn't concentrated on a single person, men r there to play every part of de ground, is looking very strong as a team... This sab is so cunning i think, he is simply saying WC hopes depend on messi form etc etc, but it look thatz not his attitude, jst giving leo a suitable role n if he is world's best player let him do that role in that level, kind f atttitude, de perfect attitude imo rather than relying on him more n adding additional burden on him... If de thinks are like we r imagining dis is a great team built by sab... Amazing job... Happy... :-D

I know a lot of u predicted that Sosa would make the final 23 months ago. Some of gou from India, i forgot who. I was replying to those who thought Sosa would make it that just because you watched Atletico week in n week out doesnt mean that Sosa is ahead of Augusto Fernandez. Augusto was given some minutes off the bench occassionally unlike Sosa who never got any minutes when Sabella decided to recall him lately.

Now you see the answer.

Glad that Sabella does not appreciate the GARBAGE minutes of Sosa in Atletico. I am relieved that we wont have 2 players that i dont want the most in the WC: Carlos "the deadly virus" Teve and Jose "the next Nelson Vivas" Sosa.

Excellent decision IMO. Perez is awesome and versatile, hence, why Man U are chasing him. More importantly, Perez is way more match fit than Banega. Very impressed with this list which could have been made stronger with the inclusion of Willy C, but I have faith in Romero. Something positive happens when he puts on the AFA jersey on.

12. Palacio
13. Maxi
14. Biglia
15. Demichelis
16. Basanta
17. Perez/Lavezzi
18. Lavezzi/Perez

these are the back ups you will in the World Cup. Poor Banega

Perez is the second most versatile Argentina have now after Lamela. Perez can be #8 (Gago), a right wing (his natural position) or even #11 (second striker) as Sabella did try him as #11 along with the second team in practice 2 days ago.

I like Banega, buy I trust Sabella. I believe he knows what he's doing.

my respects to sabella...
im sure it was a tough decision...
and if gago gets injured, and sure banega will join...
but gago already had enzo and biglia that could substitute him...
whereas in the 442, only enzo and agusto can play as RM, running up and down the band...

Campagrano was never a doubt especially with Argentina thin option at RB..I don't know why people here were doubting Campagrano inclusion in the team..I've always said that he was one of the first guys on the plane..

Augusto is a good player, I was saying he should be cut but he his actually good in the air especially on set piece..I remember he scored against Guatemala off a Messi cross and he also score a few goals for Celto Vigo off set piece..

433, 442, 532...

433 with 4 fantasticos will happen...

now, i also think we may see a 532, like we did in qualifiers...

but my take is sabella prefers a 442...perhaps...

banega has incredible talent... at his best, he was as good as any... but, and the but is a big but, he lacks discipline... likewise, i can see enzo and gago playing together in a 442; but banega and gago together would be a death sentence... the 4 times they played together in valencia, valencia receiveed 20 goals...

all said, my praises to sabella once again. i always thought that a great coach ,given their current form, and their poor history on the field together, would bring to the world cup, gago or banega, but not both.

sabella will lead us to the world cup podium!

on one hand im sad to see benaga not make it as we really need some one with his amazing ball skills but on another he only has him self to blame.

what a waste of a talent and probably the end of his n/t career.
