Ángel di María Joins the Group
The latest report coming from Ezeiza on Friday morning as expected is that Ángel DI MARIA has finally reported for duty to join the rest of the National Team players for training.

With him on board now, Alejandro SABELLA has all the remaining 26 players left on the provisional squad and as reported before this, three more players will be cut on 2nd of June; to complete the final 23 that will go to Brazil.

Here is a video taken from Olé on the team’s Friday practice session.

However two players were absent from training on Friday; Kun AGUERO was apparently having fever and while Ezequiel GARAY was having a bruised right thigh. Nothing too serious for now.

Now for some appetizer today let me introduce to you to the Official Flight which will carry the team to Brazil!

So what do you think?

Peru had their chance but they couldn't finish. rooney ir useless however sturridge he's pretty darn good so is lallana. Gerrard as Cdm will not be able to top messi if we face them not to mention Aguero/di maria torturing Glen Johnson.

Arg2014 England was not strong defensively and this by the way was a Peruvian U23 squad to some extent..Glen Johnson was horrible making countless of mistake..Not convince with Cahill, maybe he workout fine for Mourinho but Cahill is no great defender..Peru was missing Farfan, Pizarro, Vargas etc..If these guys were in the starting lineup they would have capitalize on the mistakes England made during the game...How can you say England defense wass good when the Peruvian players were just taking long distance shots?

It is not only this season but through out his career , Demi is error machine , every time I watched him he makes mistakes , errors and him go hand in hand, sabella tried him early in the qualifiers but after silly mistake that led to goal he dropped him and never called him again I don't know what changed his mind

demichelis has not featured at all with Sabella!!! Why have him in now?? He made tons of mistakes at Man city (red card for a challenge on Messi in CL) to name just one. I did like him in the Maradona era and how he can bring the play forward. But I am glad Sabella got rid of him.

So, it's reported that Bayern Munich has signed Garay, see... told you guys, this Garay rumors are absolutely absurb.. You can never believe which club has actually signed him or him staying put at benfica until you actually see him wearing the jersey of whatever club.

Reportedly a long-term target for Manchester United, Ezequiel Garay is said to be on his way to Bayern Munich this summer according to a report.

Ezequiel Garay has long been linked with a move to Manchester United. And following the news that Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand would both be leaving Old Trafford this summer the links to the Benfica defender made more sense than ever.

And yet it if the latest report is to be believed, the perennial gossip column favourite will not be moving to United this summer, but to Bayern Munich.

Argentine newspaper Clarin claims an agreement has been reached between Bayern and Benfica to bring Garay to the Allianz Arena this summer for a fee of €15million.

That would be something of a bargain considering some of the previous amounts put on the player’s head. But if Pep Guardiola has signed the Argentine international on the cheap, it is yet another sign that the Bundesliga champions could be even stronger than ever next season.

Although I don't want Demi in the team, but I would chose him over Otamendi......My preferred cut players are: Sosa, Augusto, and Otamendi-Ice man (no fighting Spirit)

Otamendi can't tackle well besides he has zero spirit to fight for the NT. This is not skill you improve, rather a natural ability you possess when playing for your country. Compare Otamendi to Sorin and you know what I mean.

elprincipe- thank you for updating mundo.

I'd be glad if it goes this way.

Romero, Andujar, Orion

Zabaleta, Campagnaro, Garay, Fernandez, Basanta, Otamendi, Rojo

Maschrano, Gago, DiMaria, Banega, Biglia, Maxi, Perez, Alvarez

Messi, Higuain, Aguero, Lavezzi, Palacio

Though the inclusion of Demi wouldn't be a big deal for me. He could still provide solidity along with his experience.

But, I really hope the midfield goes this way.. No Sosa, no Fernandez, cause Enzo and Ricky are simply, better and Augusto is already injured.

I'd root for el pocho to shine this summer!

@DonDappaYouth: Sabella is not ready yet to announce the final list. He just doesn't want to rush things that will cost him later on.....He made bad decisions during friendlies and qualifiers by calling certain players several times who proved to be not good.....so now he's solving the puzzle in the dying minutes. Our defense and subs in particular are still in the process, and that's why he can't release his final list now.

Dnt compare wit 2010, otamendi is more experienced n matured now... At 2010 whole back 4 were joke... IMHO better than including 2 aged slow dfndrs is including one f a dfrnt kind dedender... Why do we need demi as DM if we hav masche, biglia n perez play dat role perfect... Thatz what i cant understand...

Baker, I think we'd be very thin at full back if Hugo is cut. I don't believe in Otamendi as right back. He's OK as DC but not right back.

Campagnaro is not a good right back either actually as he's way too slow, but in 3 man defense, Campagnaro is special as right sided central defender.

I think we need Campagnaro, otherwise without proper right back, our attack from the right is close to non existent. The opponent can just focus on covering the central and left side area.

England is ready for the world cup, I'm telling you.....even their defenders score. They will do something this time.....Uruguay is out, England and Italy can move to the 2nd round. I liked how the subs introduced were on the same level as starters....very young talented players. They play a new style now with less long passes.

Don't get this wrong otamendi should go as a central back nd not a full back ... Against certain teams his speed as a central back could be useful... He could also be very helpful in a 352 formation which sabella likes

Is today the final day for the cut? If so, why is Sabella taking so long..He should cut right now and move past this suspension so the players can be more settle..You see, Scolari just cut to chase and select is preferred 23, why is Sabella delaying the final 23 as if he doesn't know who to let go?

Demichelis main weakness is his concentration. He's got what it takes to be a world class, but his concentration was his problem. At City he improves a lot due to the most important fact: the coach trusts him.

I am OK with his inclusion as long as he stays 6th or 7th defender. Basanta deserves to be the main back up for defender as he played more often for the national team.

As for Perez, well good news. Sosa? Sorry Sosa fans. Finally Sabella sees that he's not national team material.

I am just interested in knowing Sabella's latest pecking order. Is it like this for?

DF:
1. Basanta
2. Demichelis
3. Campagnaro

The update news:

The latest training first eleven: (4-3-3)
Romero; Zabaleta, Fernandez, Demichelis, Rojo; Gago, Mascherano, Di Maria; Palacio, Messi and Higuain

Demichelis is in the first 11 due to Garay having a mild injury on his right thigh. So is this a sign of Demi has gone up to the fifth defender or the MAIN BACK UP defender?

Palacio also started due to Aguero having a cold.

The second team: (3-5-2)
Andújar; Otamendi, Campagnaro, Basanta; Augusto Fernández, Banega, Biglia, Maxi Rodríguez, José Sosa; Enzo Pérez; y Lavezzi.

Surprisingly Perez was a striker here. Well due to the fact we have only 5 forwards and Aguero was out, so just 4.

Later Ricky Alvarez and Orion also got some minutes as back up.

Based on this, I think the 3 final cut have yet to be decided.

I don't know what people here are thinking, Camnpagrano is a must on the world cup squad..I rather have him over Otamendi for sure..Guys the world cup wont be playing at BPL style pace, just something for you guys to keep in mind..Most of the wold cup games will be playing at walking pace especially the ones playing in the northern parts of Brazil..Campagrano might not be the quickest guy but he's better defensively than Otamendi..

Last thing i want is a player playing in out of position.
we already have rojo who is center back playing in LB , but he is getting covered my masch ,dimaria and FF.
but if ottamendi too in RB means 2 out of position players in full back position , that is an open invitation for disaster

@Really Pradi???Really you want to see Otamendi at right back only due to pace.He had more pace before 4 years. But what happened???Campagnaro may be slow, but he has the experience in playing as a right back in Napopi, only Paolo Cannavaro was there as a CB.And the right winger was Maggio, who is just fast, not technical or positionally aware or defensively sound. If he can standout with those two in an absurd formation of Mazzari, definitely he got quality.

Thanks Pep. Where did you get that from? So according you your news, the three cut are: Otamendi, Sosa, and Augusto.

Meaning that Demichelis, Campagnaro, and Ricky are going.

The final 23:
GK: Romero, Andujar, Orion
DF: Zaba, Fede, Garay, Rojo, Basanta, Demi, Hugo
MF: Masche, Gago, Banega, Biglia, Di Maria, Maxi, Perez, Ricky
F: Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Palacio, Lavezzi.

Golazo is right.

Latest news (kind of surprised no update yet):
1. Pablo Zabaleta has mild ankle injury, so no training for him. No worry.

2. Sosa is almost certain out. The surprising thing is Ricky and Hugo Campagnaro, the two regulars are not secured either. It seems that Sabella was watching Inter closely. Ricky was in poor form for months already. Campagnaro did not get to play regularly that much. When playing, he was super slow.

So this is the summary:
Martin Demichelis and Enzo Perez are rumored to be not in danger. Meaning they are in.

Who are certainly in: (21 players)
GK: Romero, Andujar, Orion
DF: Zaba, Fede, Garay, Rojo, Basanta, Demi
MF: Masche, Gago, Banega, Biglia, Di Maria, Maxi, Perez
F: Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Palacio, Lavezzi.

The final 2:
Otamendi vs. Campagnaro

So Sabella thinks Otamendi can be a right back too somehow! That's surprising. If this is the case, I'd pick Campagnaro.

Ricky vs. Augusto

It still can be 8 defenders, though meaning that Ricky and Augusto can both be out, but it's unlikely.

It's a tough one, I still would pick Ricky.

3. Sabella postpones the full training match 11 vs. 11.

Spain's defense is better now.Arbeloa was one of the reason of their 3-0 defeat at Confed final.Juanfran seems to be good RB.I hope his good form is only due to Simione effect and will suck under Del Basque :D

They had striker problem. Now they have Costa now but he has no Intl experience.

Their midfield is as always full of amazing players. One thing they will miss is directness of Navas.Iniesta isn't that great anymore,Pedro can't do it.So if a team decides to park the bus, they will face hard time to break it.If we recall the 2010 final, they rarely found any chance until Navas was introduced.

A fresh thought:

I think Sabella has to go for 8 defenders....?

Sabella uses 4-3-3, 5-3-2 and 4-4-2 as his main formations that means 4 or 5 defenders in those systems. In his formation he needs 2 or 3 forwards and 3 or 4 Midfielders only. So Sabella has to go for more defenders than midfielders. If one or more defenders gets injured we will have shortage of substitutes or no substitute during world cup and it will cost us especially when Sabella wants to use 5-3-2.

Instead of 7-8-5 now i think we have to go for 8-7-5..!!

It's the problem of journalism, they make sensational news not sensible news. They always makes controversies out of nowhere by just putting a few words from some interviews.

Clubs I would like to see our world cup stars at after the tournament is finish and other Argentine players who are not at the world cup.

-Biglia to Arsenal

-Garay to Bayern or Barcelona

-Ricky Alvarez to Man United or stay at Inter Milan

-Di Maria stay at Real or Man City is the other option

-Rojo Barcelona or Liverpool

-Mascherano stay at Barcelona

-Aguero to Barcelona

-Higuain to Chelsea or Arsenal, I feel Napoli will become a dead end at some point for Higuain

-Banega to Dortmund or Marseille

-Maxi hmmm I think his European career is over maybe a move to the MLS, would be good for MLS football.

-Palacio improve contract at Inter Milan

-Demichelis stay for another season at City then move back to Argemtina..

-Zabaleta to Barcelona

-Lavezzi to Chelsea

-F Fernandez stay at Napoli and continue to grow under Benitez, best guy for any Argentina defender to play under..

-Basanta although he's 30 can play for a team like Lazio or Valencia..

-Messi stay at Barcelona

-Enzo Perez to Man United or Napoli

-Otamendi to Valencia or Marseille

-Fazio to Man United

-Musacchio to Barcelona

-Willy Cabellero to Man City

-Iturbe to Liverpool or Real Madrid

-Lamela to Inter Milan but it seems he will stay at Totenham.

-Icardi to Atletico Madrid, need to get his personal life straighten out though.

-Augusto Fernandez to hmmm? Fiorentina or stay at Celto Vigo

-Gaitan to Man United or Liverpool

-Gago to Napoli or Marseille

-Romero to Valencia

-Andujar to Napoli

-Campagrano stay with Inter for another season then move back to Argentina.

I would love to see Garay at Barça, but that's just because I'm already a fan. I would love to see Agüero and di María there as well, but I don't see that happening.

@Bayern approach for Garray:I strongly believe that Pep was always interested in him, that mutual understanding between Barca and RM stood as a block. He is gonna become the hottest transfer target for many clubs after winning the WC.
---if he had a little more white ethnicity and long curled hair, there would have been more demands.
---Bayern would be perfect for him even though I hate them as hell,He can easily replace that proposed Javi as CB.
--The other clubs who would benefit a lot from him are Barca,Liverpool,ManCity,Dortmund

I hoped and and hoped that my beloved team will get it right this time around. I have been suffering as an ardent fan for the past two decades, i really need to see my team go out there and play the real ARGENTINA football that we are known for. As a team we need to pay keen attention on the type of defensive system we employed. Please remember my fellow Argen. supporter it is defense that win tournament.Go Argen. go !!!!!!!!

Campagnaro will stay but sabella may keep Demi which wrong decision as far as I am concerned , if augosto and Sosa are not going that means enzo Perez and Ricky Alvarez will go that will be good decision , if sabella does that it will
Mean he is seriously considering enzo Perez and will deploy agains top teams

Regarding Romero, while I wouldn't start him personally due to his lack of match fitness (as I said before I really like the guy and think he's a solid GK) there is a damn good chance he'll shut everyone up (there is also a good chance that he'll bungle up where it counts so there is definitely a risk in using him) but despite of that I need to remind all of you of another GK who no thought would get a single minute of playing time let alone win the golden glove (and best player in copa america 93!) and his name was Sergio Goycochea.
The guy came in to the world cup as a backup for pumpido in the seleccion AND River plate, so he didn't play much for his club either but he stepped up when it counted and this is the thing about winning teams, every player needs to step up and make himself counted and I saw constant examples of players stepping up for the albicelestes since Sabella took over so I have hope

Who de hell is bolivian coach... Even de people at stands involved in de game more than de bolivian players... The possession is 80-20 i think... Spain really, very severely lack a quality not a decent striker... Otherwise is class... Torres misd a chance infront of goal,1 on 1 wit GK, chances can be misd but de way he misd, only dat moment is needed for bosque to left him out f de squad... Chance for a false 9 approach frm bosque is on de door...

Importance of practicing Penalty shootout.

In last 24 years only Brazil in 2002 and Spain in 2010 won WC without any penalty shootout.

- In WC 1990: In Semi Final: Germany beat England in Penalty shootout.
- In WC 1994: In Final: Brazil beat Italy in Penalty shootout. Also many close matches.
- In WC 1998: In Quarter Final: France beat Italy in Penalty shootout. All the knockout matches for France was very very close.
- In WC 2002: Although there were no penalty shootout for Brazil but there were many close matches like Turkey or England.
- In WC 2006: In Final: Italy beat France in Penalty shootout and almost all the matches were close matches.
- In WC 2010: Although there were no penalty for Spain but all the knockout matches Spain won in 1-0 goal margin.

I am sure with fab 4 on the field Argentina will always look to finish the game in 90 minutes but there might be some possibility that we need to go for Penalty shootout and I am really worried with our chance in that case.

We must must need to take special Training for this.

Puyol leadership was key for Spain in 2010, then you had Xavi and Iniesta playing their best football at the time..Spain in 2014 is not the same as the side from 2010, and even then, the 2010 Spanish team was not a prolific one..And someone here telling me Chile can't beat this Spanish team in Brazil in front of a passionate Chilean fans who will outnumbered the Spanish fans...I would have been more terrified of Brazil if Costa had choose to play for them, God makes everything happen for a reason..Costa will not be the same for Spain as he would have been if he had played for Brazil instead.

Spain as usual controling de game but lack de cutting edge... To be frank mid look more interesting for me than 2010s, but forward line is below par unless negredo reach de level he start at man city... Costa i dnt think succeed in spain style, villa era is over, torres forgot de game... Another choice is pedro as false nine, at spain mid he look average...

sabella tried to messi dimaria IT FAILED no messi keep dimaria in his role and play a front flat 3 lavezzi etc

messi plays 10 mostly down the center put also wide ,kun is second striker he playsvas a forward but also links eith dimaria and messi and drops into the mesdi hole if messi insnt in there

higuain plays 9 but also provides right forward support all 3 messi kun and higuain drop back to bolster midfield messi by fsr the most

dimaria plays that winger come attacker come box to box LUNGS ROLE if it isnt working sabella pushes him out to the touch line asva WINGER

no messi change to a 3 up front put lavezzi wide kun semi wide higuain down the middle and dimaria inside left attacker

Guys, let me remind you again. Sabella is not a coach who loves to utilize all the 23 players. We know his starting 11.

The players he trusts among the subs are:
1. Maxi Rodriguez
2. Rodrigo Palacio
3. Jose Basanta
4. Lucas Biglia
5. Ezequiel Lavezzi
6. Ever Banega
7. Hugo Campagnaro

and maybe Ricky Alvarez.

I'd like Perez not Sosa to be included, but neither of them will be a major factor. They'd be lucky to get even 1 minute of playing time in the whole World Cup.

The same as Demichelis or Otamendi. Anybody selected will likely be the 7th defender, meaning that Basanta and Campagnaro are ahead of them in the pecking order.

The only Argentina coach that I remember that has tendency to utilize all the 23 or at least 21-22 players is Jose Pekerman. Jose Pekerman always rotate his players when coaching for U20 and Argentina senior.

That's why he used Saviola-Crespo upfront in the first game against Ivory Coast and then Messi-Tevez vs. Netherlands. And Tevez-Crespo vs. Germany. Not only that, he emptied almost all of his benches in the whole tournament.

Sabella is not like that. I don't think Sabella will use all the 23 players. Just 17-18 at most I believe... even if we make it to the final.

Di Maria great interview posted by Baker:

Q: You had the most assists on the team . . . do you like providing assists more than scoring goals?
DM: Yes, many times I’ve been told I should shoot more. Cristiano says it to me a lot. But to everyone I always say that I feel like I’ve scored a goal when I provide an assist. I gave Cristiano eight assists, and that makes me very happy.

That "I feel like I’ve scored a goal when I provide an assist" mentality makes him a perfect "Robin". Players like him will make the "Batman" happy.

Let me say it again. Argentina need "Jorge Burruchaga" factor to win the World Cup. Do you know who he is? He was the best teammate of Maradona in 1986. He was the original "Robin".

Amigos, don't break your heads and lose your minds over which 3 will be cut, and who gets to go. We'll all know in a couple of days. I am sure everyone has their favorites , and players who they don't like as much. But really, let's not lose it and bad-mouth these guys. Regardless, they all have worked hard.

I too was really breaking my head , hoping Sabella includes Enzo Perez and so on. But I realized there's no use worrying (similar reasoning applicable to Ricky, Augusto, Sosa), and here is why : (Assuming no injuries to players, and assuming no major strategic change from Sabella)

1. If Argentina is chasing a game and if Sabella doesn't feel confident that the players on the pitch will pull off a revival , then:
- Sabella will be forced to make attacking changes. This would mean that he'd probably need to bring in guys like Lavezzi, or Palacio. These guys will be his first choice off the bench. He will need to reorganize his formation and probably make Messi play deeper to dictate the game and create more chances along with Di Maria . Exploit Lavezzi's pace, Palacio to provide width etc.

2. If Argentina are leading and they need to protect their game or close out a game:
- Sabella will pull out either a striker or/and midfielder, and introduce more steel into the midfield and defense. This would mean that his first choices will be taking out a striker (one of higuain or aguero if both are played together), and put in a Biglia or Banega. He has shown to even bring in Maxi , to get some calmness and experience in the attacking mid. If he takes out a midfielder, he'd still substitute them for one of the 2 Bs.
- In defense - he will choose to bring in Basanta/Campagnaro/ Demi to strengthen the back some more.

So if you look with it with some logical predictions - the guys who seem to be most discussed here : Perez, Sosa, Ricky, Augusto, are actually lower down the list in terms of preferences who would come in as substitutes. Let's not break our heads so much about it, there's really no point.

I'd say that the Demi vs Otamendi battle is actually a bit more critical! If he chooses Demi , he definitely has plans of him being one of the first preferences as defenders off the subs bench.

4-3-3 messi has to play the central striker, attacking midfielder at the top of the box, flanked by higuain and aguero.

if you put dimaria as the attack mid, then you lose what he's good at, the runs from the wings and the crosses and passes to the box.

it should be as the lone attacking mid, with masche and biglia the box to box guys getting the ball to dimaria or the forwards.

----biglia-----------masche--
-----------dimaria-----------
-----messi--higuain----kun---

were dimaria can attack from anyside of the midfield and play as a double winger.

I think Gago healthy and on form is a great box to box...and I think Biglia is very solid for that position as well (he can do both box to box and defensive mid).

Enzo is more of an attacking mid, but he would be another box to box option.
