A surprise anti-doping test for Argentina

There was a surprise anti-doping test conducted by FIFA this morning where they tested every player. Only Angel DI MARIA did not take part in it as he wasn't there with the team.

Chile was also tested last week and Colombia could be next as they are currently training in Argentina.

heAbNormalOne, i think sabella agrees with you, at least when the 4 fantasticos are in, masche-gago looks like the starting duo...now, I'm not sure what he will do when there are tough matches, whether 442, or 532... if it is 532 with demichellis con the back 5 line, then you have a team that during the same match without changing players, can play many formations....

pradi,
atletico had only 11 players worthwhile, each one having played around 3000 minutes in league, and who arrived to the champions league exhausted... of those, the two most important, thuram and diego costa did not play. and these are two players who are exceptional attacking and defending...

i dont know the point of bragging of needing 93 minutes to score on atletico...

el principe,
to me, the difference between madrid and argentina, is that madrid has ramos and varane/pepe; who are together with thiago silva by a long shot the fastest centre backs in the world.

cr7 is the main man in madrid only when madrid is winning, and the opposite team moves the defense up basically giving 30, 40 meters to sprint.... in all champions playoff games cr7 scored only when madrid was up by at least two goals...

the difference

It seems that Sabella is working to get the best out of the fantastic four. Di Maria is in Argentina already, but will join the squad on Friday. Maxi was his replacement in practice.

In the beginning of 2013-2014, Ancelotti did not even know that he did have four fantastic players upfront in his privilege. He kept rotating them with Isco or Jese or play just 3 of them. Most of the time, he rotated Bale with Di Maria in the first 6 months of his coaching. Madrid trailed like 8 or 9 points or something from the leader Barca. Ancelotti did start just 3 of them in the first half of Madrid season.

Then somehow, Ancelotti did put Di Maria as left midfielder. That's the key for his success. 6 months training together got them CDR and Champions league trophy and should have got the la liga trophy as well had 3 of them not injured at the same time in their last 3 key games.

The fantastic four of Madrid looked almost unbeatable at their best. They could beat the ball posession tiki taka freak like Bayern, the gung ho Barca, and the winning at all cost Atletico, 3 of the strongest clubs in the world.

More importantly, the tactic looked so flawless that they did not look bad defensively at all. I did not see any teams exposing their defensive weakness at all despite having 4 very offensive minded players upfront and no true DM (Xabi Alonso is more of a deep lying playmaker originally).

Our fantastic four under Sabella first played vs. Ecuador in a game we won easily 4-0 in 2011-2012, around 2 years prior to the birth of Real Madrid fantastic four. Our fantastic four just played together 6 times compared to Madrid who had played their fantastic four pretty much from February 2014 in all possible games.

This training camp is the perfect opportunity to maximize their potential. Name wise, ours is not worse at all from Madrid's.

It's just they were trained together for longer time than ours.

The biggest difference between Madrid fantastic four and ours are 2 for me:
1. Madrid go to man is their left winger, CR7, while Argentina go to man is the false 9 Messi.
2. Madrid fantastic four rarely rotate with each other. Bale always stayed on the right. CR7 left. Benzema ceter.

Our fantastic four rotate a lot. Sometimes Messi played AM, sometimes #9. Sometimes Aguero played left and Higuain right and vice versa.

Trinidad & Tobago in a week from now will be the 7th team facing our fantastic four.

We'll get around 3 weeks training together before the first game, the most training time Argentina have in years.

dimaria can play forward l-r midfield l-r messi can play anywere in mid or forward line..

maxi can play l-r mid banega l-r mid kun second striker or up front

lavezzi l-r mid l-r forward ,are fantastic 4 have the highest goals and assists in world football

dimaria and messi the best dribble distences

any way you slice it we are the scariest team there biglia and masch the best out'n' out DMs

exactly. my comments on gago have been on ALL the games he has played for argentina and is the equivalent of Tevez. talented but inconsistent and let the NT down too much.

As for Ricky, it is a crime if sosa or augusto are picked over him. Sosa will get you now goals or assists and is actually worse than gago.

People don't like Gago and Banega in Argentina because they've actually been watching them play this season.

Boca performed better when he was not in the lineup after he got injured, and many feel holding him in the lineup cost them the title (rightly or wrongly) for that reason. To put in perspective, they won 5 of their 9 matches in the last 5 matches of the season when Gago was OUT. And to be fair, even a Gago fan could not say he played very well for Boca when he was in. Health was almost certainly a factor, though. I think they had 13 goals in the first 13 matches of the year. They had 12 in the last 5 when Gago was out.

As for Banega, he tried to stop his car with his foot once not too long ago. He isn't exactly considered very bright or very stable given his history with extracurricular activities and substances.....

@Pradi,

5-3-2 is not an underdog formation,it is a formation of champion.Argentina won a WC and reached final in next world cup using this formation.Yeah,I'm talking about 86 and 90.In 1986 only Argentina played that formation. When Argentina became champion, many team used it in 1990 and it became a popular formation just like 4-2-3-1 has become after 2010.4-2-3-1 is much more defensive formation than 5-3-2.5-3-2 is one of the most balanced and flexible formation in football. When to defend ,it is 5-3-2 with atleat 8 man defending and when to attack it is 3-5-2 giving you 6/7 man in attack. So you see,it is super defensive in one moment and super offensive in another.

Some interesting things you guys said. Things you guys need to remember:
1. South American/Central American teams have never had any history of giving Argentina troubles... since 1978. The only South American team who beat Argentina was Brazil in 1982 when they beat the young Maradona.

Other than that, since 1978, Argentina have always shown their superiority against any South/North American teams including vs. Brazil in 1990.

It is actually obvious because when you look at Copa America, before the Copa America 2011, Argentina (and Uruguay) were the most winners of the South American most prestigious tournament with 14 trophies. Way more than others including Brazil who had 8. Other South American teams closest to that? Paraguay and Peru who had TWO each! The likes of Chile had never won any Copa America.

I never had any worries anytime we meet any South American teams since I became a fan in 1986. I know in my head that Argentina would always win. I would rather Argentina meet the likes of Ecuador or Chile or Colombia somehow in the elimination round than the likes of Switzerland or England or France.

This year, the only South American teams that I think can make it tough for Argentina are Brazil and Uruguay only since they both have rich WC experience. Even Brazil is smart to say that they do no want to meet Uruguay or Argentina. Other than them, it is always a bonus meeting any South American teams.

I agree with Kidult that South American teams should look stronger this WC than the Europeans, but I disagree with him if any South American teams can defeat or at least stand a higher chance than 40-60 to defeat the 2 strongest of South Americans: Argentina and Brazil.

It takes them both, Argentina and Brazil (and Uruguay) to beat each other or it takes a European side to kick them out.

Argentina losses since 1978 have been against Europeans:
1982 loss vs. Italy
1990 loss vs. Germany
1994 loss vs. Romania (and Bulgaria in group stage)
1998 loss vs. Netherlands
2002 loss vs. England
2006 loss vs. Germany
2010 loss vs. Germany

2. France World Cup team is very physcial. They field 3 strong and big DM/box to box as starters. They changed their DNA from a skillful team to a physical team with the Nasri omission. They will rely on Ribery creativity heavily on attack.

3. History has shown that there have always been South America vs. Europe final. I don't know if it's FIFA conspiracy theory or it is just pure coincidence.

You have to get back to 1930 and 1950 to see all South American teams final. After that, the World Cup were held in:
1. Chile in 1962 where Brazil defeated Czech Rep
2. Mexico in 1970 where Brazil defeated Italy
3. Argentina in 1978 where Argentina defeated Holland
4. Mexico in 1986 where Argentina defeated Germany
5. USA in 1994 where Brazil defeated Italy
6. Brazil in 2014?

I am very confident it will be another South American vs. Europe again. That's why I do not predict Argentina vs. Brazil final.

I predict Argentina vs. Germany final.

And we are the Champion.

France is a team to look for, balanced and full of talent. If something would step against them, it'll be the lack of experience, but once again, Descahmps is a good coach and have created a very good squad. I hope, they lead their group in order to avoid them in the 2nd round. They'd put a show!
That doesn't mean I'm scared of them. Hell, no, we can beat them by experience, but, they could eliminate Germany or Portugal in the QF with a possibility to face Brazil once again in the semi!

I somehow predict a QF of:

Brazi v Uruguay

France v Germany

Spain v Italy

Argentina v Portugal

My prediction is based on logic and powerhouse factor. Without surprises!

IMO this 5-3-2 is inviting pressure... Better is to add biglia or perez at mid n break the play before reaching our box... Allow quick breaks for our front line too... Otherwise once lost possesion de ball will reach our box easily n most of our oppossition possession will concentrate there... Thatz an additional pressure... I feel...

about gago

"Gago confirmed that it is fully recovered from his sprained left knee and focuses on the World : . " It will be the first for me I have to be calm and confident ." And asked to go game by game , revalidating it done in the playoffs .

What a headache Alejandro Sabella had when on 13 April, Fernando Gago was injured in Columbus - Boca . A sprain in his left knee had put him in doubt for the World Cup. But with a quick recovery, Pintita longer works normally. And he took care to tell how it is: " Luckily , the injury happened 'm training well and try to get in the best possible way and get well physically. . ."

It will be the first World Cup for the steering wheel . His first world finals . Before such appointment, Gago said the way you manage your anxiety : "It is logical anxiety Neither is good I try to be calm and just think of the parties when the debut approaches I am confident, with the support of the coaching staff . . . and group. "

And remarked that Argentina must revalidate it done in the playoffs since the first game to achieve the nickname candidate. " All games are difficult . Argentina has to show in the top three. We can not be guided by the name . Tried to think of us and not so much on the opponent . Playing in the Seleccion , in a World Cup is the most that we can happen. try to get in the best way and enjoy on the court , " closed the press conference midfielder ."

I see Netherlands and Spain get qualified to the second round. The Dutch have a good coach, and even Maradona said :"watch out for the Dutch".
Messi though mentioned that the team he fears to face if France. He didn't say it was Chile....Messi is a smart footballer and surely comprehends the strength of other teams.

guled: I know..Google translator is a joke!!!

Richard: I heard about some of those names, they sound like promising players..

On your last paragraph though, Nigeria will be tough and Physical as usually but at the end of the day Argentina will defeat them in front of sold out home fans..Nigeria defensively have problems that's why they always go out in the group stage at senior world cups..Sabella already beaten Nigeria 3 - 1 some while ago..Nigeria also have a poor record outside of the African continent, they seems to do well in tournaments like African Nations cup but always faltered when they play in tournaments outside of Africa..

Kidulthood, I agree that the Dutch bench is not that good. They do however have talent. Lens is playing in Ukraine and is pretty good on the flank as is Depay. Three players are now linked with Man U (Martins Indi, Clasie and Depay).

The Netherlands won't win it. Nobody here believes in their chances except for a few die-hards. That's why the streets are not orange like during other tournaments. The merchandise is staying in the super markets!

They probably end up second behind Spain and go out against Brazil in round 2.

Except for team USA no European teams travel those long distances. After round one the matches will come right after each other. African teams will be best prepared for heat. But will they be around by then? Last time African teams underperformed in Africa.

Nigeria should be able to make it. They beat us in the Olympic final in Atlanta, we beat them in Beijing. At WC<21 and WC<17 we meet them all the time. Few familiar names but tough team to beat. I remember a late Batigol header to beat them in the WC in Japan/Corea.

If everything goes to plan we'll see a Brazil vs Argentina final. Fingers crossed.

we started on formations
"Pachorra diagrammed a tactical trial, with a starting lineup and one alternate . In the first, yet Angel Di Maria on Friday joins the group featured the same old faces : Romero at the bow ; Zabaleta , Garay, Fede Fernandez Rojo in defense ; Mascherano , Gago and Maxi Rodríguez in the middle; Messi , Higuain and Aguero up front.
On the sidewalk in front , always under the gaze Heed and continuous displays of Sabella , Andujar stood between the sticks ; Campagnaro , Demichelis, Otamendi and Basanta ago ; Enzo Pérez , Biglia , Banega and Sosa as flyers ; Ricky Alvarez and Palace as attackers .
Meanwhile, Augusto Fernandez, who is recovering from a sprained right knee, continued working differential . The idea of the wheel of the Celtic football Spain is able to fight shortly to be among the 23. Ezequiel Lavezzi also conducted separate tasks and Agustin Orion completed work with the rest of the archers ."

Richards: yes Holland have Van Persie and Robben but who do they have on the bench? Does the Netherlands have 4 -5 players on the bench that can come on and change games? In a world cup you need a strong bench, what if its not clicking for both Robben or Van Persie then what are the other options for the Dutch? I know they have Hunterlaar, that's about it, Sneijder have barely played games under Van Gaal and he (Sneijder) best days are behind him...As I said this Dutch team will be an elite one come 2018 because of the young talent they have but as for as 2014 goes I don't see the Dutch doing anything..

''South American conditions (heat, humidity...) will count, but all teams will be around long enough to get accustomed to the climate. Besides most players from south american teams also play in Europe.'' This might be true, but teams like Spain, Italy, Germany,England, Holland etc will be using a lot of resources in the group stages unlike Brazil and Argentina they will have the options to rotate their teams..Yes everyone will be in the heat but the team that is more fresher, less fatigue, less drain, healthier players, less cards, less burnt out will be the ones standing at the end and unfortunately for the major European contenders, the time and schedule of their games make it even tougher for them..Germany for example have two games at 12 pm in the afternoon which comes with a lot of traveling some 9,000 miles between games, one against Portugal and one against Ghana. Who would want to play these tough fixtures so early on at the world cup especially in these inhumane conditions when it comes to football? These European players are not use to this type of surroundings..

Everyone writing off the Netherlands is forgetting they have one of the smartest coaches around. Their new 5-3-2 system with Robben and Van Persie upfront will cause many teams problems. Van Gaal has so much experience.

Van der Vaart was a doubt for the WC because there are better, more fit players available. His absence will not count as heavy as that of Strootman.

I would not be surprised if both Van Gaal and Del Bosque will outwit the Chilean coach who has to deal with 6 players missing due to injury (Hernandez beingthe sixth).

With Deschamps on the French bench and experienced Hitzfeld on the Swiss bench we could see both Chile and Ecuador go out in round 1.

South American conditions (heat, humidity...) will count, but all teams will be around long enough to get accustomed to the climate. Besides most players from south american teams also play in Europe.

Will fan support count? Sure, everyone who watched the Confed Cup last year knows teams and referees will be intimated by the yellow stadiums for Brazil and the crowd sung anthem. But for other teams?
I don't know. It sure did not help Argentina during the last Copa America in Argentina.

15 days to go.
Hopefully Falcao, Suarez and Vidal will be ready in time. The WC is better with all stars present.

Di Maria: "If we don't win the World Cup, it will be a failure," the Madrid star told Radio La Red. "This is the reality. The entire world will consider it to be a failure if we don't win the World Cup.

"It will be seven incredibly difficult games. We will have to give our all and do whatever it takes to realize our dream.

"We will have to give it our all and be willing to die on the pitch in order to reach the final and be crowned champions."

Doping tests for our team? What's the point? Dear FIFA, our players are naturally gifted, you don't need drugs to enhance their capacity. Please do go and do the same to other teams, otherwise we will think that this is just the first step towards tackling with all the ways, legal and illegal, our way to victory. I can think that Brazilians are scared and want to use all their mean tactics to stop us, but our next stop will be only "GLORY".

Ayr18:You really think Mascherano will go to Liverpool???Not a chance man.The transfer from Liverpool to Barca was a complicated one.He refused to train and play and made transfer plea publicly. He even supported Torres after he left for Chelsea.Liverpool fans are no Chelsea or City fans.I'm sure he was the second most hated player by LFC fans at a point...Even so it would be a good transfer if it goes through, especially when Rodgers is there.

@pep:I both agree and disagree with you.I agree with Demi being a hard tackler. And disagree regarding the point that we need static back 4 and need both of Demi and Mascherano. It's what goal.com readers says.We need a fit Gago who is strong at both attacking and defending. And even though it's fantastic 4 in words it's actually a trio of no.9,10 and 16 in attack,Like kid said atleast in these two months be an optimimist...

if you want to play with the 4 fantasticos, and have a defense not overly exposed,
sabella can achieve this by playing a 4 back line, and a masche demichelis mid defensive duo in the midfield ...

it is not ideal, it may not happen... but playing with the 4 fatasticos, only a masche and demichellis could protect the back four against top teams.... simply said, they are both amazing tackler...

During June-July it is very difficult for anyone even to walk more than 10 minutes..here in Qatar..:) At sunlight it gets even worse..Every gulf country is same..!

Two practical possibilities for Qatar 2022 WC are...either covered stadiums with centralized a/c..as Pradi mentioned or WC taking place in winter....any months between..November-February. First choice is not good for football fans...they cannot even stand outside the stadium...or in city...even at night..humidity will eat you..!!

Qatar Time is pretty much the same as Europe Time. For example, 1:30 pm qatar time is like 12:30 pm spanish time. So, the matches in Qatar world cup will have to match The European primetime and hence have to start after qatar time afternoon. That should be quite easier for the players.

I m not convinced demi as a DM, at man city when played as DM he failed terribly, not only because of pace positioning wise also... Its against chelsea i think n commentators criticised pellegrini for playing him at that position in a crucial game... If perez is included he can easily be used as both DM n AM also... Masche, biglia, perez - 3 are enough no... Only role i see on him is when using 5-3-2 or 3-5-2... Cant be used as full back also with his pace...

I've never seen any reputable news source indicating Demi is being tried as a DM for the NT. He has played that position in the distant past and is capable of moving the ball up the pitch, but that's where his skills end. Any ideas about his being considered as a DM have originated from many of the perverse minds here at Mundo.

I don't think Sabella would consider such a move unless in an emergency. Mascherano, as always, will have his hands more than full. Can you imagine Demichelis trying to fill his shoes ? Ridiculous.

The way I see it is that there are 2 defensive positions left with otamendi demichelis nd campangaro fighting for them and 2 midfield positions left with Ricky Sosa Augusto nd Perez fighting for them.

The big question remains is that if campangaro is eliminated who will backup zabaletta in case of suspension or injury?

el pipita, people in Argentina have a different perspective; they have watched these players grow in the youth teams then in the local league, there is a lot of emotions and club loyalty involved, not just the quality of the players.
Also another factor is that many people in Argentina do not follow European leagues; they have the Primera division and Libertadores, maybe la liga too; I doubt many people follow Man City...

Only for Albiceleste fans and not for one who fakes to be our family:
I think the choice between Demi and Otamendi is already made and Demi is that one.
Why?In one word it's experience and versatility(lol, two words?).
--Why include Demi over Otamendi? Demi is experienced in versatile stages. He've played for Super stars who should win their all matches(Bayern),New comers who should not loss surprisingly but should win by surprise(Malaga),And an elite wannabe team who wants to win all the matches regardless of they capable or not(Man City).
---This is psychology man, psychology. What if we suddenly change the formation in a match? It will help us to own coaches who are excellent technician but not that good tactician(Smell Loew???).
---Imperfections is the perfection of a game and this imperfection is a mixture of surprise, unexpected, tweaks.Inclusion of Demi over one of kun/pipita will give Sabella a lot of formation tweaks,4-3-3 to 4-4-2,5-3-2,3-4-3,3-4-2-1 and a lot.So any study on our team would be f****d.
