@el principe: Pele can say whatever he wants. Do you really think Brazil will settle for 2nd place in an easy group and inform the public they did it just to avoid meeting Spain?
Also the last game will be played same time for 2 groups to avoid this placement. If Brazil drew against Croatia, they will have to win all remaining games to qualify and they will top the group. It all depends on points and goals....sometimes you can decide your placement, but sometime you can't based on circumstances. I know Brazil will plan to win the group and meet whoever in the 2nd round. A team like brazil hosting this whole gala won't get eliminated in the 2nd round all I know.

San Isidro You still on this prediction man, I have made prediction here with France meeting Argentina in the finals..Why are you so against Ghana? Please keep on underestimating these teams like Ghana, am sure Ghana doesn't mind..They will be better suited and fitter than every player on the other teams in the same group in the South American conditions..I have Ghana coming out the group, that's my call, why you get so mad about it? Are you a Germany supporter?

The teams in group G will travel the most in the tournament..Some teams up to 9,000 miles..The hot and humid conditions in Brazil will suit Ghana strong physical athletic players.

Germany vs Ghana will be played at 3 pm

Portugal vs Ghana will be played at 12 pm

Ghana vs USA will be play at 6 pm..

Ghana is more favor in these humid conditions and time slot over the likes of Germany and Portugal and its not like Ghana doesn't have good players, they do, some of them UCL winners too..

For me anything can happen in Group G but its not impossible for Ghana to top group G, that's all I am saying. You have the right to disagree but no need to try and play the insult game.

Based on Kid's prediction: semi finalists will be Colombia, Chile, Ghana and Argentina. Also if Spain meets Brazil in the second round, Brazil will be knocked out....the host is out.

NO European team in the semi final? really?

Trust me, Brazil surely don't want to face a Argentina team that would have spent at least 2 months in Brazil by the time the final comes around..By the time Argentina make the final, Sabella team will be a well oiled machine and not even the fans at the Maracana can save Brazil from Lio Messi Argentina..

@Deb: ''I think Sabella hasn't been very spectacular regarding throwing the correct subs in yet, but nevertheless''

Against Colombia Sabella sub in Aguero for Higuain late in the game when the Colombians were tired and Aguero made an immediate impact on the game scoring in the process..

-Banega came off the bench to score against Italy

-Maxi came off the bench to score against Paraguay

-Maxi came off the bench and miss a nice chance to win the game against Ecuador played in the USA last year.

-Lamela came on off the bench against Bosnia and got two easy chance to score..

-Biglia came on off the bench against Bosnia and all of a sudden Argentina was moving the ball better.

-Lavezzi came off the bench against Romania and could have won the game for Argentina with a point blank range shot.

This is just a few I can remember, for me Sabella subs as always been effective and worked in his favor..

What surprises me is that Argentina plays it's first friendly on June 4, two days after the deadline for the final 23 squad. That means Sabella has to decide on all the recovered players (Gago, Banega, Higuain, Augusto F) during training and cannot judge their readiness during a real test match, albeit a mediocre team like Trinidad & Tobago.

If recovered players get injured again, they cannot be replaced so the squad will get down to 22, 21...

Most of the big teams play test matches before the June 2 deadline.

"Brazil coach Scolari expects to face Argentina in the World Cup final!"

Luiz Felipe Scolari has revealed what
he believes will be Brazil’s route to
glory, if they progress all the way
through the latter stages of the
competition.

The host nation’s coach anticipates facing
opponents that have historically had the
most success, in what would be
irresistible knock-out matches for neutral
spectators.

"From what I understand from what our
coaching staff say, the path is as follows:
us against the Netherlands, then Italy or
Uruguay, but we think Italy would be
more likely.

"After, we would face Germany [in the
semi final] and finally Argentina," Scolari
told O Estado de S. Paulo.

Looks like everyone is concerned about this Argentina side! But the most interesting thing from Scolari's interview is he wants to face every tough opponents except Uruguay & he mentioned it! Hahaha...the nightmares of 1950.

Hopefully Argentina will give a gift to the Brazilians in July 15, 2014 in Maracana which would be their biggest nightmares of all time!!

Verona confirms Iturbe signing.

Verona have confirmed the permanent
signing of Argentina Under-20
international Juan Manuel Iturbe from
Porto.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan
at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi,
and scored eight goals in 33 Serie A
appearances.

Porto announced last week that the
Italian club had opted to purchase the
player after he helped them finish10th in
their first season back in the Italian top
flight.

And Verona announced on Tuesday that
Iturbe, who has reportedly attracted
attention from some of Europe's elite
clubs, will move to Italy on a permanent
basis.

"Hellas Verona announces that it has
exercised the right of redemption,
outright, for the player Juan Manuel
Iturbe from Porto," Verona said in a
statement.

"JMI15 is all yellow and blue!"

Iturbe made just nine first-team
appearances for Porto after joining from
Paraguayan outfit Cerro Porteno in 2010.

@Mafioso,
I think we need to concentrate on Ghana, The second most "kudosed" member on this forum has Germany getting eliminated in the group stage, and Ghana meeting Argentina in the final...And now he says he can't believe people take his predictions so seriously....I don't but since he put it out there he should stand by it...So while your commentary is actually very helpful, we need to comb the internet about Ghana's footballing prowess and techniques.

The main strength of Germans is teamwork and fitness. They rely on their fitness more than anyone else.I remember a scene from 4-0 match where Khedira caught Tevez from 15 feet behind and tevez was running at full speed. That was scary!

The scenario for Loew is kinda similar to that of 2010.He had to deal with several injuries, but his team
did well. Now he has some injury crisis, but the situation is different. In 2010,Ballack was injured and he took a fresh Sami Khedira. But now Sami is not 100%
fit,but he is with the team.Swensteiger is not 100% fit.Nueur and Lahm had some issues before joining the camp.Gundogan and Bender is out due to injury. So for CMF position, Loew has 2 of his key sub out and starters are not 100% fit. This will be a big issue for
them.

Loew will have hard time to decide whether to put Lahm
in Midfield or Wingback position. If he chooses to put Lahm in defense, central midfield will be relatively weak with unfit players and vice versa as they have no
good backup for him.

These are the new problems for Loew along with old problems like fragile defense.Even loew does not know whose are his CB pair and Scmelzer is not good enough. However loew is very good with his homeworks and preparations,I'm sure he will sort out most of the problems. But the biggest problem for Germany is Loew himself.Possibly Loew is very good technician but not a good tactician. He changes his players too much.It sometimes work, sometimes don't.For example he exchanged the position of Ozil and Muller throughout the 2010 wc and he did the same during the Euro'12.This is not good when you are playing a tournament.

Anyway,no matter they are with problems or without,I don't want to face them before semi. They solve all their problems before meeting ARG and always seems extra motivated. So let other teams take care of them.

News:
Pele said Brazil should avoid meeting Spain in the second round, which means if Spain likely finish second, Brazil must finish second as well.

Pochettino is set to coach Totenham. Maybe Lamela should stay there.

I feel Messi especially should train FK with the new brazuca ball. Last WC 2010, the jabulani ball was so terrible that almost no one could score from FK properly.

Every ball is different. Messi should adjust to the new ball. Set pieces can be key for our success.

The one thing that struck my mind last night was exactly how good is Sabella regarding his substitute choices? Because I think that's the hallmark of a great coach. Making the right subs at the right moment. On that note, who do you think our most probable 4 or 5 subs would be? I think Maxi, Biglia, Banega, Lavezzi and Campagnaro are the top 5 choices. I think Sabella hasn't been very spectacular regarding throwing the correct subs in yet, but nevertheless... He didn't have a full squad for most of the times either.

When was the last time a substitute would come in and make some decisive impact on a big world cup match (semifinal or final)? Just curious...

I hope they all keep motivating Messi, so he can get out of all stress, feel like at home and show his monstrous form. There is no Neymar here, no salary issue, no tax issue and Messi doesn't even have to take the sole responsibility of scoring all the goals. He has Aguero (Premier league champion), Di Maria (CL champion), hit man Higuain, Lavezzi (Ligue 1 Champion) and Palacio. All of those players are at the top of the scoring/assist list in their respective leagues. That's the charm in playing for a national team. No other external factor drives/affects you here but passion.

I remember the ARG/Peru qualifier game for the last WC, I think my heart stopped beating for few seconds when they equalized.

I had my head down, trying to wake up from a bad dream, it was dark, wet and as the old saying goes, was raining cats and dogs, except it was hippos and elephants.
Time was ticking by and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion and then all of a sudden, I see Martin run to the side of the pitch and rip his shirt off before getting mobbed by the rest of the team.

I think I jumped from a sitting position and almost hitting the ceiling, ripped my shirt off and ran around the house screaming like a fool, we won we won.

Its hard to explain the range of extreme emotions I was I experiencing, I went from utter despair to absolute euphoria in the matter of seconds.

Most of the others were or still are the original Brazil, Spain, England, Italy,Germany or even Portugal fans, or some other south american team...not that it's wrong, they're welcome as well, but you can smell that they're not exactly Argentina fans by their comments here, not that it's pathetic.

Its funny how people here take the predictions I make serious as if they are offended by it..The only time I am offended by predictions is when I see pundits have Argentina going out the tournament at certain stage..If I see someone making a prediction with Spain, Brazil and Holland going out in the group stage or second round then why would I get personal about these prediction..I support none of these teams and I don't care how they fall in pundits and fans alike prediction brackets..The only time I take issue with predictions is when Argentina is not where I want them to be on these so call predictions, other than that, I don't care if someone have Ghana beating Germany, all the good for Argentina..I visit predictions site and see people having Mexico winning , Belgium winning, Portugal winning, Nigeria winning etc..Do I get offended by these ? Yes, only because they don't have Argentina winning it..I don't care where Brazil, Spain, Holland, Germany etc get knockout in these so called prediction brackets..Some fans here get heated about prediction brackets on this site as if they are fans of more than one team or they bet there homes and car on certain teams!!

This is the world cup, any team in the top 15 -20 FIFA rankings can lose to each other...

This world cup will have a lot of surprises where the smaller football nations will emerge onto the world scene..All this hype around the usually players going into this world cup will not pend out how pundits predict it to be, most of them will flop, including the Spanish and German players..Just look for new players to emerge and Messi and Argentina to take this world cup by storm...I have no interest in the other teams, I will watch the world cup as far as Argentina take me in the tournament....

Plus side of Sabella is he uses different formations according to opponents. Argentina will mainly play 4-3-3,5-3-2 and 4-4-2 in the WC. But 4-3-3 will be our first choice.

But we can still see some surprise during the game when it is NEEDED.....like 3 holding midfielders forming a bridge(Masch+Gago+Biglia) or an attacking fab5...??
........Aguero........Higuain............
Dimaria.........Messi...........Lavezzi..

All those formations Sabella can do with just one substitution....!!!

Indeed, let the games begin.
Its really hard to believe its been 4years since the last WC.

I'm taking the whole month off from work just to watch the games.

Has anybody here realised that this training camp is the longest period Sabella gets to be with his players since he became the coach? Before he always had only 5 days to prepare with the players during the qualifiers and friendlies. So I'm optimistic about this training camp. I think we're going to see some tactical surprises from sabella. Vamos!
