We should all remember that this knogkout stage in the world cup is one game only! There are no second leg chances to " turn the tie around". It's cut throat, intense, edge-of the seat stuff. Crazy shit can and does happen! If Suarez doesn't turn goalkeeper, Ghana are in the semi finals of the last world cup and I see a second round match betwen Spain and Brazil as a real 50/50 match, so the mighty Brazil could be spectating early! We are all getting excited and probably over analytical that's why opinions vary so much, but I thoroughly enoy the debates.

You are correct but thinking that a 250 to 1 underdog (Ghana) makes it to the final is utter nonsense. The thing is you can make educated assumptions instead of making non sensical comments. I'm all for predictions but not just for plain old gibberish.

Italy got eliminated by Paraguay in the group stage at the last world cup..Things can happen.Holland? Did you even watch them play at the last Euros? Holland team is no elite team, they will be home by the third game of the group stage..

Come back and talk to me when the world cup is over, no more chit chatting from me on this topic..I am not here to personally attack posters like you seems to do on this blog...You don't know me man, so just take this trash talking somewhere else!!

@San Isidro,
I agree with you Spain will be out early...but i believe they will be out from group stage.

Many Football pundits say Brazil are favorite. And their order is Brazil, Germany, Argentina and Spain. But my prediction is as follows:

Spain : Out from Group Stage
Brazil: Out in Round 16
Germany: Out in Quarter

There is a big possibilities...i really think..this is going to happen.

Pradi: lavezzi would be a good addition in the 4-2-3-1 formation...but in 4-3-3 v can use gago...for a more attacking football...and he is of world class quality...and if gago is not available we can use perez and perez can be helpfull if v are going for a counter attack strategy so it myt be dimaria-masche-gago ro dimaria-masche-perez...but yes bigilia myt be too defensive but v need a real box to box midfielder in tht role with good defensive ability and calm head

Can we use lavezzi as attacking mid, a di maria type role thru right wing... He got good close control on ball, wont lose possession that easily, good defensive contribution, strength, pace all r good... Bt de question is do he has de vision, ability to find de killer passes...? Bt de current squad shows that sab start fab4, coz no top class creative player who can start in mid, which seems a little risky for me... The 4-3-3 with fab4... I hope atleast sab use then masche-biglia partnership...

Some bitch shrink in Spain decides to diagnose messi vomiting and she isn't even treating him and gives her opinion. "I'm sure messi will be fine after Spain wins the World Cup "is all she didn't say. These people need to get a life. Don't worry about us. Just worry about getting past Netherlands and Brazil. I think Spain are out in the round of 16. I said it first.

theres no fake ass 9 for argentina he plays 10 HE IS ARE TEN we have amazing forwards messi will rule as this cups 10 he plays behind them not between them and dimaria is multipul x the player iniesta is

with time to train we should see some fantastic flowing football ,lavezzi is also a key player we can switch attacking shape at will and maxi of the bench vs weakened tired teams will be deadly we have to make teams shake with fear

Kid : i was just pointing out the real reason y the stastics fell...der is no doubting messis ability...tata in barcelona put his money in the wrong horse ie sanchez and fabregas...forgeting messi carried the whole team in his shoulders and tata may have thought messi didnt need to be managed but tht is whre pep and probably sabella wins when dey get the most out of messi the team surely wins...and everyone knows when messi gets going der is nobody to stop him...its important sabella gets the most out of messi...and i believe he will...!!

Lets hope? Messi will be better playing with Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria,Lavezzi and Palacio..Argentina is a way better team at the moment than Barcelona...This is the reason Messi scoring ratio for Argentina as skyrocket under Sabella..

mundo lets analyse why messi had a bad season dis time and all ppl are critcizing messi and saying he is over...but the truth is messi is a player who needs a lot of space and his true magic form comes when he is infront of 4 defenders...but now a days teams have foundout a way to tackle messi...by employing 8 players in der own half and manager telling every 8 players to play like a centre back when messi is der...another reason was...up front except for iniesta dis season nobody else was passing the ball so mch to messi....stupid sanchez was taking his solo runs without passing throughtout the season...and so was divemar...employing a lot of messis space and doing stupid tricks and diving and losing ball not passing to messi...with xavi getting old and fabregas appearing to be lost messi didnt get the support from his teammates....lets hope kun and pipita gives him enough passes and space when he is in the false nine role...dat will keep him happy and score goals...!!!wht do you guys think..??

and guys in the group above Giovanni SIMEONE is diego simeone's son..hope don diego joins us in brazil to motivate us...!!!

Sabella's interview (Google translator, broken English):

Sabella, hand in hand with Olé , trust in the support of the group : " Leo feels embraced by his teammates." Tevez, Romero , defense , experience in '98, all the talk today of DT does not want to recognize ...

Your son asked you a player ?
- No .

'I tore lying. If football fan and the father is the coach of the team , some asked .
- You know what was the only thing my son told me ? "Dad , if I go one day to the farm and I take a photo with Messi, I start to mourn ."

- Did you take ?
- No . It does not seem appropriate mix ...

- You would not be professional to take less .
I do not know ... I 'm going to think.

- What do you follow awakening at night with a thought of the World ?
- Yes . Now I wake up thinking that fewer days are left . They first six months, then three . And since there are less than 20 days. As you say , it changes the angle of the story .

- How do you clear ?
- Some friends come to my house to get me a bit of time. I as a roast with them. My lady invites because he knows well that makes me a bit distracted .

- Do you do you roast ?
- Not at all .

- Sos as Diego? Do not you know barbecuing ?
- Diego either? I do not know barbecuing . I must have done it once ...

- Are you going to a psychologist ?
- What do you want ? As the psychologist go crazy ? No, no, I do not want anyone crazy .

- Own cabals ?
- One million . I have so many that sometimes I do not remember . But so far they have worked for me , what do I know ...

- What more concerned forget cabals ?
- That I injure someone. That is the big issue .

- What was the day that scared you: When you fell Higuain, Di Maria and Aguero ?
- ( Thinks) Actually, all three. But I suspected was the most serious of Pipa. With Di Maria got scared when I played 90 minutes after injury . In the League scored a goal pique for Morata andI almost died ! When I started running almost fell there ...

- And with the kick of Filipe Luis Messi in the last Atletico -Barcelona ?
- When there is a play and want to follow the television image . You see the camera goes and you are desperate to get him back right away. You volvés crazy .

Crack - Messi is the best ever , but we are concerned about their level. Vos also ?
- No . I 'm not worried about Messi.

- Why not ?
- ( Fast answer ) On a psychological issue .

- Yours or his?
- What good question. But I will answer you , ja . Psychological mine ...

Trust - Vos in the World will be the Messi we know ...
Leo found in difficult situations where you receive the ball and has a barrier of eight types .

- The defense will also bolt in Brazil.
- Obviously . All technicians will try to counter it. But hope must be taken into a group to play together and give you strength . A launch pad for those players that are just as destabilizing as Messi.

- Been with Leo a few days ago in Europe. There ? Saw him off ?
- On the contrary, I saw him very well. It happens that when you lose a team like Barcelona , which is used to winning , people get cranky ... There are things that Barcelona player is used to. But they are experiences that make you grow .

- What did you think to hear that he was caring for the World ?
- No nursed . Because he has played Champions League games , games in which he could have gone League champion . No, no, no. Messi is a great professional .

- Why it failed in your cycle to turn the story to be more valued in Spain than here ?
- You happy . Messi feels embraced by peers. It has a different leadership , in their way ... Leo is a leader for his football exuberance that makes the whole world at his feet surrender. Perceived to have the track all the players and coaching staff escort . That makes you feel good.

- Maybe Messi fellow feel the same way you felt at the time with Diego.
- The day I trained with Maradona depressed. I felt that I knew not to play football. Here everyone feels that Leo is the best. And they know that must make you feel good . They have to do things for him to be happy. That is, Messi is it has to do with the attitude of all. There is general merit to Leo feel good. And then there is its unique ability .

- If Messi is happy there are more chances to win the title of the world ...
- There is a team that has to help Messi. We can not upload all responsibility to him.

- Should win a World to sit at the top table of all time or as is ? -Ya are in that table.
- Are you going to enjoy this month by being able to work with your players ? - Where more time is going to be , but neither is much ... Before World had for over a month . Now is three weeks and the second must make two friendlies . There is so much field work.

- At one point I was concerned about the lack of pace of competition Romero. Now how do you see?
-Romero saved a little more in the final.

- But is it enough?
Al - keeper must give trust. The last three games in the Selection interrupted Romero did you goals . Look at the glass half full ...

- How is the team defends the weak point. Is it enough to come either individually or defense is another story here ?
- Zabaleta had an excellent year , but in the City plays a different system to ours . Federico Fernandez also had a good year , playing 4-2-3-1 . The same Garay , who made many goals in a 4-3-3 at Benfica . And Mark ( Red) has played six and got several goals . They have had a good year , but that the selection traspolar is very difficult.

- One of the biggest challenges now is to convince more tips to help ?
We are going to try to unite the team , to give a little more strength .

- That is to convince or fieldwork ?
- First convince .

- How do Gago saw in the first movements in Ezeiza ?
I see well - Gago , working well . It began working in the field with the ball. And now making small spaces.

- One of the hardest things you is the technical talk . How do you imagine the first ?
- I always think that we have to have a notebook and pen handy. I think I heard of a writer, because they do. I sometimes wake up and think a ball stop. But then I forget ... I'd have to go prepared as a journalist , ha . But I'm a hard head.

- And from the staff how you live? What feelings do you shoot ?
Honor and responsibility. It is so. As for the motivational , there are different levels. Own Players who were already at a World and others not . I did not play any World but was as assistant to Daniel ( Passarella ) . Then , look for a unifying idea that will inspire a group. You have to have a sense of belonging. Vos you can have it to a country , group or sweatshirt. You have to see where encontrás you the greatest sense of belonging.

- Where is here?
- It should be guiding principles : to give rather than receive , think of us first for me, combining the plural rather than the singular ... The team is the other connection point. Having a collective notion . A commitment . If not, you can not . If there is selfishness , not going . You have to be a better person .

- What do people say when you go down the street ?
- I hide under the seats ...

- And you discover ?
- In Capital 'm not because I 'm out of my house all by motorway to the estate of Ezeiza. And in La Plata , in general I 'm local . When newly empezás your career , you walk down the street and you look sideways to see who you recognize. That makes you happy. I now walk down the street and look at the floor. Fast ha way. I do not want to recognize me . When I say "we are champions that " it means a blow . Then I say, "Another one that tells me that we must be champions " .

- You do not want to hear you say that we will be champions.
'I feel like triumphalism. And for a side triumphalism ; on the other I feel the weight that I have above ... It's a mixed bag. So I prefer that I do not see anyone. And do not tell me anything.

- Before the World 98, Passarella said " whatever happens I'm going ." Would you like to continue with national team World you consider good?
I can not answer that right now . I do not think the medium term. As the great Cholo Simeone says, the only thing I think about is the next workout ... If you look in terms of days , the World is not long term . Now, if you look it in terms of importance of those days is a very long term. We are in the next century ! I put the focus on reconnect with all the players and I come all right, that medical tests are made ...

- Because there was a rumor that leave you thinking after the World Cup.
- I honestly answer that at this time I do not think that.

- What did you learn from France 98 ?
- What to preserve and reserve energy. Before the quarterfinals , Holland played the day before , I made a goal in the 90th minute ... We play the day after , we went to OT and shootout. With the aggravating circumstance that was a very strong emotional and physical wear because it was a classic with England. There was a big celebration after the game ... And while against Holland could have won , he lost . We must celebrate , but at the same time to say " enough" to think about the next game.

- What bothers you the question , that of Carlos Tevez, there's something different to reply?
- ( Draw your cassette) It is not appropriate to talk about players who are not invited .

- But have you ever thought of a subpoena ? Been three years thou arming different list .
- In the first instance , I would say no. Once the group started , and no ...

This is what I want Sabella to do at the training camp..

A) Have all the players practice there penalty kick everyday during training for about 30 minutes, rather than doing these things when we are deep in the tournament..

B) Do a lot of high balls in the 18 yard box to get Romero and the back-line in shape and ready..All we need is for the great DI Maria to drill countless of crosses in the 18 yard box during training that will surely test Romero and the defense..

These are my only concerns about the team at the moment..

Just sharing a thought... Importance of scoring first... I think that we cant afford a situation without scoring nd IMO shud score first... Because if we concede first de oppossition will stay deep in numbers prioritising to held on that scoreline... IMO every WC teams will do that fearing our attacking power houses, may be not brazil (hosts), spain(play natural game, emphasise on attractiveness of game)... All other teams 100% i m sure go defensive or park bus, if any team wont do that it will b brazil or spain, may be they too... So i believe scoring first is very much important...

n the early training of the Argentina team, there are players who know they have a guaranteed place in the World Cup Brazil 2014. Enzo Pérez In this platoon, the wheel appears Benfica of Portugal. However, confidence does not loosen Mendoza and warns: "I have a lot of faith to be on the list."

"I have great faith that I can be on the list as long as trying to make a good impression in training to Alejandro (Sabella) gives the list of 23," said the flyer, which arrived this morning to the country and went directly to the site of the AFA in Ezeiza, in dialogue with TyCSports.

You have to make a good impression in training

Sabella has not yet decided whether to carry seven defense-eight flyers or vice versa. So Enzo Perez is one of the four midfielders, with Augusto Fernández, José Sosa and Ricardo Alvarez, fighting for one or two places in the next World Cup

Great long interview by Sabella:

http://www.ole.com.ar/mundial/argentina/titulo_0_1145285484.html

He said:
1. Messi needs to be happy. That's the secret of winning. (Hear that Martino!)
2. Why Romero? GK needs vote of confidence.
3. Gago? Gago already starts kicking the ball
4. Di Maria? Sabella said he almost fainted when he saw Atletico players brought him down and Di Maria looked in pain.

I also read a lot of other articles. It seems that 25 players are already in Argentina. Di Maria will be the latest one joining the squad. He will join on Friday.

el principe: ok.

I feel the German group will be a tight group, people are saying Germany will just win all 3 games and so on, but I don't buy it..Its a possibility that Germany and Portugal can play to a draw, its their first game of the world cup and that's a serious possibility, then this result will all of a sudden blew the group wide open..Remember back in 2010 Germany struggled to beat Ghana in the group stage and could only win in the late minutes of the game, I was hoping for Ghana to tied that game or win it hence we would not have face Germany at the quarterfinal last time, and don't forget Germany lost in the group stage at the 2010 world cup also...This time I am not worry about where we meet Germany, thanks to Sabella..

I see a lot of surprises coming at this year world cup..All I see is that pundits are just predicting straight forward results..

@kid who cares about them they are minority , most of them epl supporters and know nothing about football , most fans respect and admire messi , any one who kicked a football respects messi , he is gifted footballer a real talent , if we win the cup it is over for the haters

There is also bias against messi becouse he never played in overrated epl, now they are praising bale like he single handed ly won the cup for real , they are not mentioning di Maria or Ramos , all the English speaking world take the football related news from England papers, also there former English players as pundits in English speaking countries like USA , they are all baised towards epl, also there is the farkland issue with argentina and maradona,s hand of god goal , messi will silence them once and for all

Btw Kid, you said Ecuador will be first. So you want to see Argentina France second round?

What else? You want Germany to finish second in group G? So you want Argentina meet them in QF?

@Kid

No... I support Brazil, France, Germany ONLY so they won't "bother" Argentina path. That's all.

Brazil and Germany are 2 of my most hated teams anyway.

guled Yes Messi will silence the critics but not all of them and trust me Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria, Mascherano and super subs like Maxi, Lavezzi and Palacio names will be floating around as to why Messi won the world cup this summer.

el principe ''So I will support: Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and France in the first round of the WC!'' Really? Now you have four teams at the world cup? I guarantee you that the world cup wont pend out how you're planing it to be..Ecuador will top their group, Mexico will place second behind Brazil,Chile will top their group..Holland and Spain will both be home by the time the round of 16 are completed.

This have been the Messi haters favorite line for years now; ''Messi can't play without Xavi and Inietsa''

Now fast forward July 13, Messi wins the world cup with Argentina and the talk will be; ''Messi won the world cup because he had players around him like Aguero,Di Maria, Higuain, Masche and Lavezzi'' btw ''Di Maria was Argentina best player at the tournament not Messi''

I guarantee you guys that the latter will be the talk after the world cup, but I don't care as long as we get a third world cup..

My what to do list in WC 2014 as a supporter of Argentina:

Group A (Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Cameroon):
1. I want Brazil to top group A beating all three other teams. That way Brazil will be on the left bracket and will avoid Argentina until the final.

2. Croatia to finish second as I believe they will be a tougher opponent for the first place of group B than Mexico.

Group B (Netherlands, Spain, Chile, Australia)
1. I will support Netherlands here as I want them to top group B and I would love to see Spain finish second to set up a meeting with Brazil.

2. How about Chile? I want them to finish 3rd or even 4th. Why? Because Mundo Albiceleste site will be extremely interesting that day :)

Group C (Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast, Japan)
I don't care as whoever the winner and the runner up is will highly unlikely meet Argentina.

Group D (Italy, Uruguay, England, Costa Rica)
The same as group C. The only chance of Argentina meeting Italy or England or Uruguay from this group is in the semi final. So it's not likely. Oh yeah, I want England to finish third here.

Group E (France, Switzerland, Ecuador, Honduras)
1. I want France to win group E. That's a must.
2. I don't care who finish second. Ecuador and Switzerland are no match for Argentina in the second round. If Honduras? a bonus.

Group F (Argentina, Nigeria, Bosnia, Iran)
1. Argentina. Don't care about anything else

Group G (Germany, USA, Portugal, Ghana)
1. Germany MUST top group G, if they finish second, we'll meet them again in the QF.
2. I want USA or Ghana to finish second. Portugal? CR7 already has Ballon D'or, La Decima, Copa Del Rey, and Irina Shayk. He just needs one more this summer: early summer holiday.

Group H (Belgium, Russia, Algeria, South Korea)
1. The winner of group H will likely meet Argentina in the quarter final (or the runner up group G). Luckily Belgium or Russia are not that good.

So I will support: Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and France in the first round of the WC!

Other than my scenario above, Argentina lucky draw means nothing.

The amount of hatred I read by some fans towards Messi on some of these social network is mind boggling..The slightest mention of Messi having a chance to win the world cup on any given article and it will tick off some fans to the degree that they have this hatred towards Messi for some reason..I might not like a player but it will never go as far as hatred..These so call football fans need to sit down, sit back, and watch Messi do his thing in Brazil this summer..Messi will not hold back, he will put everything on the pitch!!!

I still think that Sabella will take Sosa to Brazil, he's Sabella's favorite sub.

Last night I watched on Sportsnet world best 50 goals from 2000 to 2014 scored in an international tournament: Only 3 Argentines made the list in that top 50, Tevez got 14th place, his goal against Mexico WC 2010. Guess who made first and second spot?

Second: Maxi's goal against Mexico 2006
First: Cambiasso's goal against Serbia 2006 because it involves like 25 passes something before scoring the goal.

I also watched Cannigia's goals in 1990 against Brazil and Italy.....man what skills for a striker. Do you really think that Lavezzi or Palacio will be able to convert golden passes into goals like Cannigia did with Maradona's passes? I doubt it.

Hey all you all might get a kick out of this but i am doing my degree and coaching Badges currently and i sometimes have internship jobs at my local fa TTFA...Trinidad and Tobago Football association.
You all know we have the friendly coming up...word went about the staff that their was a guy (me) who knows the Argentina team inside out...and the HEAD coach and staff wanted to meet with me tomorrow to ask me some questions....they call me Argentine because they realize i love Argentina with more sincerity and purity than my own national team (For personal reasons).....what a dilemma yes?

Most of them are ex U17 WC semifinalist. I know them quite well.

Joaquin Ibanez had the best tournament by being the top scorer despite playing left back. He's an interesting project for me because he is originally a left midfielder but was played as left back. When this project is done, expect to see our most attacking full back we have since Juan Sorin. I just hope he keeps playing left back at least for the national team.

Nico Tripichio can learn from Zabaleta as they are both attacking full back.

Driussi is talented, but is sometimes over confident. Still extremely raw, though. He relies too much on his shooting. Maybe he watched a lot of Batigol video.

Leszczuk has good dribbling but lack of pace. Another very raw talented player.

Mammana is a real talent. I predict he will wear national team jersey one day for sure. He's got the toughness and leadership of Ayala.

Too bad Matias Sanchez is not there. He can learn a lot from Gago and Banega.

These players should represent us in WC U20. Hope we will win it again.

When I was writhing that Big4 was not beat Uruguay I mean their match against celestes on Copa America. And I think every big team could be stopped by good organisation of deffence. Like Svitzerland vs Spain on last World Cup and Argentina vs Romania.

These guys being at the world cup camp will gain great experience..This is one of the advantages of having the world cup so close to home plus the AFA will not have to spend that much money to have all these players in Brazil..I like this, its like Sabella is running the team like a club team during the world cup, he will have sub 20 players to call up for training the same way they do at Barcelona with the Barca B players. Sebastián DRIUSSI is a real talent, no doubt..All in all this is a pretty promising group of players.
