no south american team has huge advantage though football is unpredictable.argentina dont have to play in hot weathers as their draw is quite favourable and they r going to play in very comfortable conditions all tournament long

First I used to think that the Brazilian climate will give the S.American team advantage but when I look at the S.American squads, I noticed that majority of the players ply their trade in Europe, meaning that they also aren't used to playing in hot temperatures. So the argument that S.American players will have the advantage over their European counterparts doesn't hold water. Messi or Aguero have played in the heat but they won't to produce their best, playing in the heat of Manaus or Salvador becoz they're used to play in the cold of Europe. For me, if there's an advantage, it's the huge number of supporters in the stands, where S.American teams are going to enjoy huge support not the climate.

2002 world cup

group stage

Brazil 2 vs Turkey 1

Brazil 4 vs China 0

Brazil 5 vs Costa Rica 2

Round of 16

Brazil 2 vs Belgium 0

Quarterfinals

Brazil 2 vs England 1

Semifinal

Brazil 1 vs Turkey 0

Final

Brazil 2 vs Germany 0

Brazil started out with a bang of goals and it did not hindered them from winning the world cup..Sabella must not change is style else Argentina will pay dearly for it at the world cup..We are a high scoring team and we should stick to it, of course there will be tight games along the way but the same attacking team I have watch over the past 3 and some years is the same one I want to see at the world cup in every rounds not the 2002 or 2010 version teams.

Joesoccer is very much right.Teams that were great and at full speed at group stages has never won the WC except 1990.If you watch closely WC winning team improves by each match until the final.Anyway playing steadily in group stage is not same as playing badly if anyone want to argue.

if spain finishes second in group stage then they face brazil. That would be anticlimax according to football pundits so no one likes spain or brazil to get eliminate in round of 16. It produces some loss in viewership. But that would be easy path for us to reach final.

The Thinker you live up to your name once again..A lot of guys here talk as if the world cup is being hosted by Russia or in France..They talk about players but left out other important factors you just mention..Why then in the world do you think Klinsman is training in some of the hottest state in America like Arizona, Texas and Florida? These state will get hot close up to 100 degree..I live in Florida and its already hot like crazy..When I play ball its usually 6 pm and the heat at that time is still hot and humid, I usually have to take regular breaks..So imagine those pale face Europeans in Brazil...

I repeat again, no European teams will win in Brazil this summer..Argentina and Brazil are favorites by a long shot.

2002 world cup:

Argentina 1 vs Nigeria 0

Argentina 0 vs England 1

Argentina 1 vs Sweden 1

How not scoring a lot of goals in the group stage helped us back in 2002? This notion that Argentina should take it easy is farce..This is the world cup, if Argentina can win by 4 goals every single game then that's good with me..Playing to win by 1 goal is foolish, we might end up like we did back in 2002..Argentina should come out of the blocks swigging on all cylinders, we have a great coach no holding us back this year.

The Latin American teams will have a huge advantage over Europeans.. they cannot perform well in warm tropical climate of Brazil.. Teams like England will do a lot of traveling in their group stage matches so they will be fatigued.. Most of Spain players are playing in the CL final and they are not going to have much rest before the WC starts.. Germany has major injury problems of Lahm,Schweinsteiger.. Belgium has a youthful team that has zero WC experience.. Portugal has only Ronaldo and a bunch of clowns.. England team is always full of clowns.. Overall,, Europeans will struggle heavily in this WC..

This is the Best chance for Brazil,Argentina,Uruguay,Colombia,Chile to show the world that Europe doesn't control football.. Through their riveting skills and majestic spirits, Messi,Neymar,Suarez,Sanchez will explode in this WC..

joesoccers: you are correct, teams like Italy just do enough to get through the 1st round and then the business really begins.
teams who bust a guy and style in the 1sr round really win the w.c.
look at spain last time, lost their 1st game and scored only 8 goals to be world champs

Kidult, your prediction of Argentina-France and Brazil-Colombia in the semis don't make sense.

If France top the group, they will meet Argentina in the final. If France finish second, they will meet Argentina in the second round.

The same with Brazil vs. Colombia semis. Colombia will meet Brazil in the QF if they top group C, and will meet Brazil in the final if they finish second group C.

Gotta make another prediction...

joesoccers:''go up by a goal, then work on passing, set plays, tactics, get a feel for the stadium, reserve energy etc.''

Your strategy is a nightmare waiting to happen, there will be no practice games at the world cup if you never know...Score a single goal and do stuff on the field that we should have been doing at the training grounds and let minnows like Iran and Bosnia have a chance to upset us of all places at the world cup..Bad idea friend, nice effort though..

argentina should use the first 3 games as training matches, to build confidence, teamwork and chemistry, endurance and tactics.

not play like it's the world cup final and try to demolish them.

don't show your hand so early in the tournament against teams that don't pose a serious threat.

keep your opponents guessing.

go up by a goal, then work on passing, set plays, tactics, get a feel for the stadium, reserve energy etc.

hold back so you peak hopefully at the final or if you're in danger of getting knocked out, you have enough to overcome it.

iran, bosnia and nigeria don't really pose any threat to knock argentina out of the cup.

arg2014 all the SM teams made the second round back in 2010, then why is it impossible for them to go through on the South American continent of all places? I see a lot of people here underestimating Chile and Ecuador but I can't wait for the cup to start..I doubt France can beat Ecuador this summer, same goes for Switzerland..These Ecuadorians can run for 190 minutes straight in these conditions and that will be there secret weapon..Ecuador is one of the teams I would like for Argentina to avoid in the second round, they will take too much energy out of us especially with there running and physicality.

There are talks here saying; why is it that Argentina are not yet in training? As a matter of facts, the team is in training. Some of the guys are already in training doing lite workouts and so on. The official training starts on Monday where everybody will have to be present at the camp..Its a given that players like Messi, Zabaleta, Aguero etc will need a few days off before training to spend some time with their families back in Argentina and get their heads right after a long season in Europe.

"Argentina has no defence"...

This has been established as a universal truth. Whenever you try to show the slightest possibility of Argentina becoming the champion of World Cup 2014 to a people who is not a Argentina supporter, the first attacking sentence that will come out of his mouth would be "Argentina has no defence"...

Hope the opponent teams will think the same and lose so hard against us....

@Deb

Well while I was doing it, I was studying the opponents too.

@arg2014

Agree with Sosa part. If there was one Argentina player that I kind of hated in the past was Nelson Vivas. I remember Bielsa trusted him so much as starter, although he was horrible.

Now it is Sosa. Sosa is my Vivas 2.0. They both have 1 similarity: do not have what it takes to play for the national team.

It's funny how Sosa was the most hated player of Mundo just less than 2 years ago, and now has turned into a wanted list player now.

If we hated Di Maria in the past and now love him, that makes sense. Just watch what he does at Madrid, but Sosa? You know what's special is not Sosa, but DIEGO SIMEONE.

Do you know San Antonio Spurs coach, Gregg Popovich? An opponent once said about him, "he can play a group of players eating too many hamburgers and his team would still look good and win."

The same thing about Simeone. I'd say, he can even play Atletico most innocent ball boy in Sosa's role and that ball boy would look good. It's not Sosa, it's the special coach effect.

This case occurred more than 10 years ago, at the time Hector Cuper who happened to be very similar to Simeone coached Valencia. He brought the dark horse Valencia to the CL final for 2 years in a row.

The third year, many scouts thought that their players were something special. Lazio for example bought their "star" in Gaizka Mendieta. You know what happened? Mendieta was one of the biggest flops in serie A history. It proved that Cuper was special not his mediocre players (Angulo, Mendieta, Farinas etc)

Same thing with Atletico players. Other than a few stars there, a bunch of others: the likes of Gabi, Godin, Sosa, Garcia would have been just mediocre players should they play for any team not coached by Diego Simeone.

However, even if Sosa makes the final 23, I won't be that upset. It's just for me waste a space. That 23rd player won't get any minutes in the World Cup anyway.

Sabella prefers to give the players rest instead of training. Several teams are already in their second of training. Germany played their first test match on Tuesday May 13th albeit without players from Munich and Dortmund.

Weird stuff.
First, Sabella surprises the world (not us) by leaving out Willy, Gaitan, Fazio and Icardi.
Second, he cuts 4 players before boot camp starts. What was the use of calling them in the first place?
Third, he is gambling by having so many injured players in his squad of 26 and probably later on also in his final 23.
Fourth, rest before training and getting playing patterns and positioning drilled in. Can all training be done in less than 3 weeks?

Hopefully the real surprise will be winning the WC!

BTW
He hired a Dutch physician to avoid issues like in all four previous WC's. Argentina always started very good and full of enery, but ran out of gas as the real tests began. He wants to avoid fatigue in the quarter and semi finals and therefore hired an expert.

The Chile's tpoic is on.

I remember once upon a time Chile had Zamarano and Marcelo Salas which is a super hero for their respective club, However in WC - Salas entered the field; play only less than 5 minutes against Europe team, touch the ball and tackle got the red card and went home. That time Chile was called as a dark horse and predicted can shine. But flop. Hopefully, Chile will have a good fortune this time.

Sosa: All of a sudden, Sosa is a hero here on Mundo when all people agreed in the past that he's a useless player. Winning the league with Atletico has nothing to do with his last 2 min he played in some matches. Sosa can't even be a sub. I hope that he will get sacked and save himself some embarrassment.

Chile: I know their team is stronger now and they have some depth in their squad lately, but they can't be a rival to Germany, Spain or Brazil. Chile is still a team that goes crazy in the first 20 min razzle dazzle, and after that they are all defending and rely on luck for not conceding. Chile won't top their group.

Spain: Although no Puyol, and Xavi is old now, but Spain has plenty of talents in every position and their subs can make a strong team as well, so just don't write them off yet or you will be disappointed next month....Spain is a strong favorite.

European Teams: like them or hate them, some teams are just hard to underrate in the world cup, forget about friendlies, qualifiers, and recent stats: Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France and England are still there to fight for the title and heat won't be a factor for them if Germany won 1990 under the heat of Roma and reached the final in 1986 under the boiling weather of Mexico. I hate Germany, but I can't deny their power especially in the knock out stage of every world cup.

Dark Horse: To answer this question, I don't see teams like Croatia or Nigeria to be a dark horse and reach the finale.....though I consider teams like France, England, Portugal, USA who are not favorite by any means, anyone of them can surprise the crap out of us and go all the way to the finale. My dark horses are: France & Portugal.

Coach: when we predict here, we ignore the coach factor.....like someone here said, Brazil is stronger today because of their coach who just earned them a trophy (conf. Cup). I believe the coach is half of the team....so when we assess a team and scrutinize the weight of every player, we have to double that 11 times for the coach.

PS: Did I mention that Spain will beat Chile big time in the group stage .....

Banega might not have the energy and speed but none of those midfield mention is as technical gifted with the ball as Banega..Banega is also a better passer and one who have a long range shot which Enzo and Biglia doesn't posses..Banega is a type of player that can come on and change a game for Argentina either with a long range goal or a pass that split open the opponent defense..I hate it when people try to kick players out the team because they feel some other players earn a spot with no proof to show for it..Well Banega has earn his spot on the team, and that's, that..Just quit making it seems like Enzo Perez is Argentina savior. This is a team game we need all our players available and on form to win this world cup for us..

Monday Sabella will have the 23 squad really? Sabella is well known for being the very last minute person. I think he will wait until the June 2nd just 1 second before the deadline before giving us the final 23. That's his habit.

Anyway, no major sites report Garay transfer to Zenit. Anyway has the links? I mean like reuters, espn or goal.com or yahoo sports. Not dailystar or bleachers.

Gago struggles against physical teams he is flair player , if sabella is counting on gago his head needs to be checked, gago won't last one game at the World Cup he is already injured , he is made if glass

Monday is not that far so we will know who sabella picks , here is hoping enzo Perez makes , he is absolutely necessary , the only midfielder who can play a box to box with energy and tenacity , we don't have any one like that, him and masch in the midfield will be great, we can play fab4 against big teams with Perez and masch midfield

HI PEOPLE! Greetings from Scotland! I used to post here as tamthebam . I've been a fan since 1978 when as a young teenager I sat up late to watch that fantastic team become Champions. I,m very much looking forward to this World Cup and guys, please have faith in Sabella, he is a pragmatist and he will make the most of the players he has, ie he will create a TEAM! VAMOS! ARGENTINA!

For example:

It can be a individual game by game, Brazil vs Croatia, or we can just do a group A voting.

And then in the playoffs, we can do game by game.

What do you guys think?, any other ideals?, I think it will be fun.

Roy

If it's not to much of a hassle.

We should do a voting as far as games by games go in the WC, not by goals but by win or lose.

It will be fun to see our fellow Mundo as a whole and predict our voting on win or lose.

It can be group stage at first, the knock out playoff games second. Or what ever else that comes in mind.

Vamos Argentina!
