Lavezzi? omg!! this guy is dumb! I have never seen him score a goal for Argentina. He missed so many clear goals again Bolivia in the last COpa america. Had we win that game, we would have avoid Uruguay early and play them in the Final and may be we would have had a better chance to beat Uruguay. I can't stand him. I hope Sabella Pick Palacio over him as a sub for Higuaim. Cause I know for sure by round 16 Auero or Higuaim will be injured. That's not what I hope but guys Aguero hasn't play 3 consecutive games. He has been injured re-injured. that's sad

Btw, why can't Dimaria put his butt on the Bench, why cant the argentina media cry out to spop him from playing in the final. The guy was injured and he's been rush to come back. Why can't he do like Neymar?

I think the list is reasonable with some question marks. No different than any of the top lists from the rest. My biggest concern is actually the midfield. Romero is a professional keepr with World Cup experience and has played reasonably well on balance. Getting smoked by Germany was Maradona's fault because he left mascherano alone in the midfield and the carrilleros abdicated the defensive roles. Which goes into my current concern. Is Gago enough to help Mascherano protect the back 4? Biglia is I think better defensively but I don't rate him as highly as Gago in distribution. He also strikes me as on the slow side.

Sabella understands Argentina's full back limitations and has accordingly worked out a plan b of playing 3 cbs and two on the flank (nominally midfielders but really defenders in a 3-5-2/5-3-2). My guess is much like bilardo, we are likely to see a more defensive formation in the later stages.

Rojo is a little clumsy on the ball but will not get outmuscled and out jumped against bigger teams.

Bottom line Sabella has tried to patch the back enough to create a safety net for the fab 4 to win.

Everybody has his own opinion about Final squad and same thing implies to me too. I also have some serious doubt about some selection and some who were left out. But one thing got into my nerve when I saw people who calls them a real Argentina's fan saying we won't win this World Cup. I think these pessimist need to be scanned from this site. these bag of scumbag are good for nothing. Its time for whole member of this site to stand tall and speak for the sake of whole team that is listed by our manager.

@Chalz: Maxi was on my Facebook. Rune and Julian are on my Facebook.

Julian is definitely Argentinean, as we both talk about our trips there. He and I share a lot on Facebook. He says I am ever the pessimist and I say he is ever the optimist, but we don't accuse each other of being fake fans like seems to be the norm on here when there are disagreements.

@Argentuban, bro i saw Albo, Maxi Lopez, Rune in this blog once or twice after Argentina World Cup Blog closed down. I even wrote to Maxi Lopez to stay but.... Maybe he had other plans. His real name was Antoine i think.
.
Aurelius was a gem too. Like v found Debashih after many years.. v will find the others someday, zonefile, somewhere.
.
Albo was an Argentine i suppose. Julian visits here often and is an Argentine too. Amlan and few other bloggers are here too.

Thiago ruled out of worldcup. It is going to be big loss for spain bcos he is the one who gives diff dimension in midfield. dribbles, pacy and play in every position. They should use koke otherwise it results as barca. It would be advantage for us (if arg and spain win all their matches then semifinal would be arg vs spain)

sabella could have included angel correa in the team in place of di santo.... at least there would be an experienced striker for the next world cup.... angel correa can be used as a sub for aguero. he might not have the experience in intl stage but in my opinion he is some one for the future... he selected mercado, rinaudo,di santo, sosa etc... he should have been removed from the coach post when he first selected sosa,di santo etc when there were many options available... look at scolori he selected the best available.... look at ger... look at spain.... look at belgium.... look at uraguay... look at colombia.... look at france....belgium selected januj.... neymer was given sufficient opportunity... if neymer was frm arg he would never have been given a chance..... we had itrube,icardi,correa,salvio.... etc...... If sabella was coaching brazil he would have selected Romario or ronaldo ahead of neymer....

Di Santo is tall, we get that.....but he can't score. What's the point of his inclusion? He didn't even play with the team long enough so I can say perhaps chemistry/harmony crap reasons.....Tall useless forward who plays for a crappy unknown club in Germany with only 4 goals in 23 appearances.....seams like a defender stats.

Why Di Santo? give me one logical reason.

Sabella has been announced Argentina squad which raise some question? Most of the selection was right though. I don't understand the selection of Demichelis and De santo. He din't select Tevez.OK. No problem he may thought Tevez might have dressing room problems. But what about other forwarder !!!

Then he din't select Willy Cabelearo who i think best Goal keeper for Argentina. And in defence Sabella hadn't consider FAZIO. He was instrumental in whole season and fantastic in Europa League.

I, as an Argentine fan really disappointed of that selection. Now we can only hope that the selected players will do their best to get back the title from Brazil

I'm fine with everyone in the squad except for Sosa, Di Santo and Demichelis. They all play shit. Di Santo over Icardi left me literally confused. Mercado and Rinaudo, I don't know them so I've no opinion on them. All that worries me is the question of our players' hunger to succeed. If we manage to win 2 knock out matches at the WC, I think, we will be champions.

Before anyone gets me wrong here, I know we need to win 4 knock matches but 2 victories in the knockouts will raise players' confidence sky high and they'll start to believe and imagine their hands on the trophy.

Not sure how he was doing on defense because I had it on but doing other things as well. I plan to watch the entire second half uninterrupted though. Will keep you posted.

@Ab, i rebuked it in The Name above all names & rebuked thru The Blood of The Lamb. Now we have the victory for Argentina. Praise The Lord.
.
U wont believe me but i prayed for Argentina for more than a year continuously before 2010 to win the world cup but.......
.
But i sinned really bad during the Arg-Ger match in 2006 and the moment i did Argentina lost its winning position and went on to loose.
.
Likewise in 2010 also ..... The match was lost before it started.

I pleaded to God for forgiveness.

How would they fight and when?

Just remember, while most of the NTs coaches where taking friendlies to test their players, Sabella was calling new players, to keep them on the bench, then proclaiming that they do not fit his tactics without even trying them!

He was playing those friendlies to build more chemistry for his starting 11.

Therefore, I'd say, there is no battle my friend. Sabella will pick the ones he like and don't get surprised if Sosa makes it ahead of Perez. He'd probably would!

According to ole.com.ar latest article, Sabella has confirmed 21 players:
GK: Romero, Andujar, Orion (3)
DF: Zaba, Fede, Garay, Rojo, Campagnaro, Basanta (6)
MF: Masche, Gago, Banega, Biglia, Di Maria, Maxi, Alvarez (7)
F: Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Palacio, Lavezzi (5)

I was predicting 22 are confirmed (add Otamendi), but ole.com said 21 are confirmed.

So according to ole.com 2 spots are open for 9 candidates. So:
1. 4 players: Otamendi, Demichelis, Mercado, and Licha (defenders) will fight for 1 spot. Or it can be 2 spots if Sabella takes 8 defenders, but most likely 7).

Most likely it's a 2 players fight between Otamendi and Demichelis.

Licha and Mercado are outsiders I believe.

2. 5 players: Augusto, Enzo, Sosa, Rinaudo, Di Santo will fight for 1 last spot.

Augusto should be the favorite if not injured. So it is really Augusto vs. Enzo vs. Sosa

Rinaudo and Di Santo will join Mercado and Licha Lopez in virtually-impossible-to-make-it list.

People who are always on this site commenting and have watched more than just the last few matches:

mic, you make a good point, the problem is that in argentina futbol y la seleccion is even more important than in germany, and basically than anywhere else in the world, only comparable to brazil...

arg2014, sabella is doing ok... not point in including a dozen attacking players, since you cannot put them one on top of the others.... as to caballero, i would have liked him as a starter, but if he was not going to start, better not to bring him at all as it would have caused disharmony...

Here some people are just feeding negetive thought on Argentine team...whats happening dears..?
What do you think....Sabella has to take the players you like? or you are a fan of? Many of us are acting like a big managers..!!
Dont forget Sabella organised this team in an excellent way. He has his plan. He needs players for his plan. He wants chemistry.Let him implement his plan...we will see...what happens...

This sums his character , excellent

@Pradi.I think Augusto's injury is some what bad.According to several reports and opinions he would be just ready when WC starts. That's a gamble, in fact a huge gamble considering Enzo may have to sit out for an unfit Augusto.
By the way a humble request, can you change that profile picture???It gives me nightmare....

Augustos situation

"Augusto Fernandez confessed he was scared when he felt pain in his left knee , but was reassured when the studies found a sprain. "It is a serious injury . I have wanted to devote to recovery. I 'm very confident , "he said .

A brilliant season , achieving an absolute consolidation in the Celtic midfield . However, the end came with fright, and an unexpected injury to Augusto Fernandez. "I was shit, the pain I go to the head and the head is like a salad bowl. Until you confirm the study are not quiet , "said one of the 30 called by Sabella for the World .

Just arrived at Ezeiza, the wheel came to the country with all the desire to join the team and begin recovery distal Grade II sprain he suffered in the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. "It's not serious but complicated by time. I think I get , I feel better . I have desire and time to devote to recovery and that's not going to miss . I have a lot of confidence , "he said .

Augusto said he was " very mature " and explained that the group will provide no matter where you play him, " Regardless of minutes one can add 'm aware of where I am, every call is an achievement. I am privileged to go to the selection . One always wants to play but there are great players. Be a minute or 90 , or not playing , I'm going to pull ahead . "

Sabella is taking a huge gamble. Not one of the 31 other squads has so many injured players. Out of the predictable 23 at least four are suffering from injury (Gago, Banega, Higuain, Fernandez), while DiMaria is out too and 2 of the starting eleven are not regular starters at their club. Enough has been said about ignoring one of the world’s top 5 keepers (next to Willy, Buffon, Neuer, Casillas and Courtois), but what if we end up with the worst case scenario and the players mentioned above do not recover in time? Sure Masche, DiMaria and Biglia will start, but apart from Maxi and Perez there’s no quality to compete with the top teams in the later stages.

ElPrincipe and Johnny said that the current 30 makes it easy to drop 7 without controversy. True, but in the worst case scenario this would mean we would surely lack creative talent.

Oh boy, lots of names are missing. Usually other coaches ignored one or two players in their selection, but we chose less skilled players over well known and powerful players:

Cabellaro, Mussachio, Lamela, Nico Gaitan, Pastore, Carlos Tevez, Icardi. At least 2 of these players should have been included. Romero will do his practice in the world cup since he hasn't touched the ball all season long.

Comparison with Maradona is a very nice compliment, but not one thatI can accept yet," Messi toldGoal. "He did so much for the national team - and I don't think any player can be considered a true great until they have won the World Cup."I hope that I can do that and I hope I can do that this summer - but until then I don't talk about me as the best."When people say nice things about you and the way you play the game it isalways nice to hear - but I have always said when I retire is the time to look back at what I have achieved."For now it's about constantly trying toimprove and winning things with Barcelona and Argentina."

I know everybody here is complaining about the list, but I won't give a ship!

I'll complain about the lack of friendlies, while other nations are having friendly matches these days like Germany and today the Dutch. We have to wait for a week or a bit more before heading to Brazil to kick some balls! Come on we should've had at least one friendly during this month to mix the ingredients of our paella!

Tizeboule- Calm down man, you're really getting your panties up in a bunch.

Sure, there are a couple of inclusions here or there that could have strengthened the squad. The GK is the only position which could have been better in the starting XI, but beyond that , you need to calm down a little. Many of the players in the squad are quite good.

1. What does Copa America 2011 have to do with today's team? Even the manager isn't the same!
2. All teams have their strengths and weaknesses. Holland's defense may be ok, but have you seen their Midfield? De Jong, Sneijder, Van Der vaart. Good players, but aging and slow now.
3. Fix the Tevez situation? What do you want Sabella to do? Baby-sit him and turn him into a better man? He never called up Tevez in the last couple of years, and he has stuck to his guns. Credit him for that.

@pachorra...yes, you're right. confidence is hugely important in football. But there's another theory and that is of squad depth. Germany, for example, included both Oliver Kahn and jens lehmann for 2002 and 2006 wc. I am worried about what will happen if Romero gets injured during a match or, starts to perform terribly. Argentina had a similar situation during the match against Germany at 2006 wc. The replacement goalkeeper couldn't save one single penalty. While no one can demand a penalty save from a goalkeeper, we always hope something exceptional from the good goalkeepers. This is why i was hoping that Caballero would make the squad. As far as I know, he is not a divisive figure either. So team morale wouldn't be affected.

But including Caballero would also make the goalkeeper's position up for grab to some extent. That would affect Romero's confidence. So your point is also valid. Probably Sabella also thinks the same way. Romero doesn't go down too early and I like it a lot.

I dearly hope, we win the trophy this time. #Together

Yes I'm sure and confident, I f Sabella will take 7 defenders he will take" Garay, Fede, Rojo, Zaba, Basanta, Demi and at last he will decide between Otamendi and Campabgaro, the same for midfield.

Just remember my list when Sabella announce the final 23.

Argentinians in Argentina wnat as many of there own club player's playing for the NT. Boca wants Boca player's, River wants River player...etc.

The media is controlled by the people who work there, they are clicks, what ever player they want, ex. Tevez, there going to maximize why he should be included.

Every one knows Messi and Tevez don't click, plain and simple. But still the media pushes the issue, depending on the click if the company.

This team, is a mixed of Super Stars and hard working player's, lets see what happens.

Vamos Argentina.

People who reside in Argentina now, can they tell us what the media had to say about this selection? any commentary on tv? please inform and post some articles. This is not about happy go lucky, this is a forum for everyone to share their opinion about the world cup....everyone can speak up and provide us with info, prediction, WC scenarios, etc....
Argentina failed on the international stage for decades and even true fans have been turned off because of the amount of consecutive disappointments the previous management/players had shown. This world cup is even harder than 2010 because it's in Brazil who wont be satisfied with a 2nd place either.....We all have concerns about goalkeeping, defence, midfield fitness level and the fear of placing Messi in the back instead of the final third of the pitch.....We know Messi: No goals = he's unhappy.
The atmosphere here would be different if the NT show case in the last friendly game was impressive, but Romania's wall left the coaching with no answer despite having best players in every position. Tactics will repeat, but lessons must have been learnt yesterday.

Me and my family are from Argentina but we live abroad... Every year or so we travel back to homeland to visit our relatives that still remain... Rest assure, there 40 million coaches in Argentina... 40 million different lists... There is no chance in hell they are going to be EVER satisfied with a final list... It is common for Argentinians to vent out their frustrations through football (I refuse it to call it soccer)... It is normal to go through local websites and find the most destructive and pessimist criticism towards the national team... So don't go into shock when someone here vents out, it is normal...

@Tizeboule......mayb you started to see this argentina team from romania match, mayb not. But i've been following this team through the whole qualifying round & sabella has improved many things within the team. This team has some weak links but which team hasn't? Best team on paper doesn't win always. If it was like that, then germany would won the past 2 world cups. So, wait for the results. It far better than the 2010 wc team collectively.

A football team is like a piano. You need eight men to carry it and three who can play the damn thing.

We can win the world cup with this team. Just need to believe in our people.
