Alejandro SABELLA: CAMBIASSO not likely
Alejandro SABELLA spoke about his trip to Italy and it doesn't look like CAMBIASSO will be making the team at the World Cup.

Alejandro SABELLA stated that he spoke to three players while in Milan and CAMBIASSO was not one of them. Here's what he had to say:

"I spoke with Rodrigo PALACIO, CAMPAGNARO and ALVAREZ. Same with AGUERO and ZABALETA. In Barcelona, with MASCHERANO and MESSI."

I guess those matches under Pekerman don't count for people. The only match where the Cambiasso-Mascherano combo didn't work was because Pekerman put Cambiasso in for Riquelme, who was playing high up in the midfield pretty much as a trequartista or enganche - not the right move at all.

He should have put Cambiasso in for Lucho instead and put in Aimar or Messi in for Riquelme.

Enlighten me where I contradict myself. I gave examples of when he played well for the NT. I acknowledged that the 2011 Copa was a disaster, but NO ONE played well under Batista. Why can people recognize that the manager killed the Fab Four but not the rest of the team as well? Cuchu would be ideal for the counterattacking team we have, and has loads of experience doing it.

Hopefully Gago pans out. I doubt it. Biglia or bust I think, as I will be surprised if Gago stays healthy.

@argentuban:

In some point down there you are really contradicting your self. But anyway, the say that Cambiasso doesn't work for the national team, is exactly the same say that Tevez doesn't work for the national team.

Cambiasso and Mascherano can't play together, just as Tevez and Messi can't play together. It isn't about pride or the bull shit some of the memebers talk about (of fights between the two), but basically playing with both affect each other preformance and they won't be at their best. And to me, take/play Mascherano at his best is way much important to me than taking/playing Cambiasso.

I was referring to the bad match against AC Milan. He has been playing lights out this season for Inter, unlike some other players for their respective clubs.

As for good matches with the NT:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6R_iYLca2gc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF1-HuTySFQ

The friendlies against Spain (the one in Argentina) and Portugal. Most of the matches in Copa America 2007.

In the 2010 qualifiers, in the 8 matches he played Argentina got 14 points. In the other 10 matches, Argentina got 10 points.

This myth that Cambiasso has not ever played well for the NT is just nonsense.

He was sorely missed in the 2010 Cup - is presence in the middle would have helped quite a bit.

And Copa America 2011 was horrendous for everyone because Batista we an absolute clown. No one played to their potential in that Cup (he only played in 2 of the matches anyways).

To suggest he is the panacea to all of our ills is certainly naive, but to suggest that he isn't a great player and to ignore that he has played well for the NT when utilized properly is equally so.

I love how people say because Cambiasso played one bad match he shouldn't make the team, when Gago has played absolute shit, Lamela hasn't played much or well at all, and people have no issues with them on the team.....

Logic need not apply here.

Agree @Abs, That mistakes are not tolerable especially in WC, it will lead us to pack the bag earlier and total failure; Not to mention the GK issue as Sabella already nailed this to Romero, but Sabella have a plenty choice on back, to select between FF,Garay,Otamendi,Champagnaro,Basanta,Rojo.

@cleanball:

I like how you connected that with our national team, that something we should all look for.

But to comment on your point, even though I agree with the fact that Liverpool had a poor defensive line, but I disagree with the rest.

1. Liverpool actually have a leaders in the back (Toure, and Agger), but BR decided not to play them, and Gerrard the captain of Liverpool is actually playing as a DM this season.

2. Liverpool made more than 9 crucial mistakes (that lead to goals) which cost them many points this season, and that had nothing to do with not having a leader in the back line, nor having a poor defense.

Lesson from Liverpool failure to gain the champion which are more on their defensive problem. Liverpool,Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal could have collected more points this season. One main point is their poor defense and leadership at the back. The missed of player like Puyol which got all the talents and charismatic character.

This are needed in Sabella's scheme, we are blessed to have Masche and Zabaletta which can be the player to play this role.

@Amlan:

Barcelona's faith in their hands, just like City's .. If Barcelona win both games they'll be champion of Spain once again, and all the hate about Messi will vanish in thin air.

As for City, I can only say that they were lucky to actually win the title after only being in top for 12 days, but I can't lame them more than blaming Liverpool for going all in. Because if Liverpool played safe against Chelsea and managed to come out with a draw from that game, the could've been the title winner by now (winning against Palace of course) !

Zabaleta is improving a lot. Looks like he is on a mission to prove me wrong that he is a not a better player than Alves. Cheers for him. He will be one of our most important players in the world cup. He will have to face world class wingers like Hazard, Ronaldo, Ribery, Iniesta, Neymar etc in the world cup. Best of luck Zaba.

As a City and Barcelona supporter I have now got an opportunity to smile as City is going to be Champion again. Hope Barcelona does that too.

I'm feeling good pablo.d ! Still one game to go though.

The bottom line is that as the season has neared its end, City have been consistent while both Liverpool and Chelsea have slipped up. You got to do it at crunch time or you go home unhappy.

Another great game from Zabaleta, who was voted MOTM despite some great performances from other players.

The problem of some of the people is when it is said that some player is creative they picture someone like requelme or aimar. The definition of creative midfielder in modern football has been changed nowadays. Now coaches prefer box to box midfielder to old fashioned Enganche.

and in the department of box to box midfielder brazil would put to shame any country in the world . players like fernandinho , oscar ,paulhinho ,willian , gustvo not only they are world class player but they are generally excellent for both club and country .Only exception is probably pualinho even he plays better than most of the other tottenham players.

In argentina our only pure box to box midfielder is gago and dimaria .No to mention gago is injury prone i think that even a healthy gago would struggle against physical brazilian midfield.

in defense our weak link is rojo when plays as a left back . yes marcelo is also weak at defending but remember marcelo plays mostly a winger and he is excellent at attacking . the duo of alvez and marcelo provides so much width that brazil under scolari has rarely been suffered to score goals .other than that the pair of garry- fernandez and silva - dante both are on par probably.

BTW Brazil is not more experience than Argentina..This team did not even go through qualifiers..Playing friendly games at the Confed cup is not the same as the world cup..USA defeat Spain in 2009 Confed Cup..

You starting a debate on weather Brazil's squad is better then us or they aren't!

A fact that you shouldn't deny, they are playing on their home soil and they are Brazil no matter rivalry, they have a world class squad except for their forwards.

Their midfield is better than ours on paper, especially in physical attributes and yet they have creativity and smart players. That's the thing you lack in your midfield Sabella. Physical and tactical players!
However, I trust our midfield and if they take it as a battle a matter of be the winner or die trying. Then we can talk!

Kid- don't underestimate your rivals, be realistic for once!

@batigol

"This would be every Brazilians worst nightmare," said Newton Cesar Santos, the Brazilian author of a 600-page history of the Brazil-Argentina rivalry — Brazil X Argentina: Stories of the Biggest Classic in World Football.

"Let anybody win, but not Argentina."

''The reality of this year's World Cup is that while Argentina may have a better team and an easier draw, Brazil has the advantage of playing at home.''

I think Brazil will struggle to penetrate opponents in tight situation like when they chasing game or opponents are parking bus because I don't see many goals from their strikers. if they manage to score that will come from their midfield or even from defenders in set pieces.they will surely struggle against team like Italy, England or any other European team who defenses to death (if they face). But having said that I feel if any team is greatest threat for Argentina to achieve glory its Brazil.

The main differences between the past 3 squads and this one seem to be

Goalkeepers - Júlio César, Jefferson, Víctor.
Defenders - Dani Alves, Maicon, Henrique, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Dante, Marcelo, Maxwell.
Midfielders - Gustavo, Paulinho, Ramires, Fernandinho, Oscar, Bernard, Willian.
Strikers - Fred, Hulk, Jo, Neymar.

On a different note: The group has suddenly come to great life with the seniors participating more (like Johnny, Mafioso, The Vickerman, etc). That's what I always try to say. No matter how much we young guns get excited about this whole world cup thing and speak all kinds of things here, we always need the old kids to come in and provide us with more insights, directions and calmness. Let's all stay together before the world cup. And hopefully we all will celebrate on July 13.

@haman.I would have agreed if it was not for neymar lobbying for Brazilian players...Do you really think David luiz is the best cb for Barcelona???(Actually I'm a bit relaxed seeing luiz on Brazilian defense).Ball playing deffender,my a55.he do not posses the quality of a cb.I would gladly take Fazio and Garray above him any given day...

If that's the case with Messi wanting Pinto in Barca, it might be the same with the NT team wanting Romero as the first keeper!

These days rumors are ridiculous! Do you guys believe whatever the media comes around with?
Messi might want or show his interest in signing Aguero and giving Pinto another season, but would never interfere in the club's system, especially if its related to his contract.
Messi can't ever imagine himself playing for another European club. Barca in his veins!

The news I wanted to hear from Sabella:"Yes,I talked about that to Zanetti and he has agreed to join as one of us.Even though he have not been with us for quite a few time he is an Argentine in and out.Players have a lot to gain from his experience and calmness and it would be both a farewell to him and also a morale boost to us all."

Enzo Perez will be in the list , even Augusto chance is bigger than Cambiasso. Sabella's instinctive and like dislike factor is more dominant in taking a decision.

Anyway, let's be realistic that Cambiasso have never been called by Sabella before so why try new player and start over again explaining the whole system and tactics. That path is done and new path is going on.

@kid nice article..
Madrid bought proven players in europe where as barca bought a raw and unproven player in neymar for 100 million instead of strengthening their weakness and then Neymar totally failed to justify his price tag. Some barca fan boys blaming messi for their miserable season and asking to sell messi is outrageous!Messi had three off games and barca were out from all three competitions. If anyone has to be sold i think its Neymar and if they dont sell him they should force neymar to serve messi instead of him trying to dribble pass 2-3 players and taking shots from impossible angles which is no where capable of doing !!

we have 4 Dm as per sabella
masch-gago-biglia-banega.

all of them are played lot under sabella and proved their metal whenever required , so there was no chance to remove any one unless there is serious injury.

But what worries me is gagos and banegas current form..
i wish sabella adds perez to the 30 men list and give some competition to these players.

hmmm not to beat a dead horse I don't believe Cambiasso is going and I think he should have be used in 2010.

With that being said saying Cambiasso was NOT GOOD for Argentina is...well RIDICULOUS. In the Pekerman Era he was essential and suited the style Pekerman played, in the Copa America 2008 barring the final in which (the entire team played awful) he was very vital and did a good job. My personal opinion is that Cambiasso is not going to get picked and when he should have been he wasn't..but saying he did nothing for the National team which of course is my opinion is far from the Truth. In the 2004 era up until 2008 Argentina reached 3 Finals (Correct me if I am wrong) Confed cup (We lost) Copa America (2004-2008) lost both in Finals 2004 doesn't count because he didn't play but I watched all those games and I can tell you that he offered a lot... when we played Germany in Confed he was effective and scored and amazing equalizing goal when our defence and GK was awful. I know this is just my opinion but I respectfully disagree with that assessment. After 2008 he was not picked but I believe the last time he should have been considered is 2010. I believe people make him a scape goat for those finals lost and copa America 2011 under performance. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I disagree....I HOWEVER would understand if he is not picked for this World Cup but I won't be upset if he was picked also.

@kid is right in the past Masch/cambiasso has been insanely lackluster midfield, yes it can be argued that they were usually accompanied by a 3d defensive minded midfielder even then i don't see the 2 man duo of Camb/Masch being very dominant. In theory it's cool but can you imagine an aging Cambiasso and an ill tempered Masch against a Germany or Brazil again?

PS i know Camb wasn't in 2010 but he's aging and is extremely slow, i'd much rather have Biglia.

this is what happens when you don't use friendlies to trial new players, no one wants injuries but in the modern game then can happen and this is what is happening to us.
im not convinced on camb my self as his pass record is average with the n/t (id also not have a problem if he was included) but as we can see we have not given the backups that some of us suggested in the past to be given a chance in friendlies in case of the worst case we lose key players, we can only hope those key players recover in time.

I have seen Mascherano and Cambiasso playing together since the 2005 Confed cup/2006 wc/2007 copa/2011 copa and he as always been a failure when the team need him the most, we have had no success with this partnership..Even the Rigueleme-Mascherano-Gago partnership has been a success at the 2008 Olympics. Can someone please tell me what have Cambiasso offer Argentina since 2006? Sabella has the right to select the players he see best for his tactics, even if its someone from the Argentina second division, I will trust Sabella on his call..I have seen this movie before, time to move on from guys like Cambiasso and Tevez, we have senior players in the squad already like Maxi and Mascherano..Honestly Sabella is the best thing happen to Argentina football in a long time, and I only see guys like Cambiasso screwing us over at the world cup like he always does in all the other tournaments before..Cambiasso and Tevez are the last two players I want to see on the squad..The only issue I have with Sabella is the goalkeeper issue, not that he should drop Romero but he should have look at better option than Andujar and Orion..

Defensively Biglia is better than cambiasso.. Cambiasso can hold the ball litter longer suited perfectly if we play with possession based tactics where as Biglia is more like a one touch passer and fits in perfectly in sabella's counter attacking tactics ... but i still feel we need a backup for card prone masch and injury prone gago !! who could that be? Alvarez?? Seems like sabella is hell bent on playing banega and biglia as a backup to gago and masch... i find banega better when attacking than defending..

Sabella should bring in a motivator to keep the team from dozing off during prepratory camp and during the one month duration of the world cup.
.
Sabella should look into corner kicks, set pièces, and very important the penalty shoot outs. 'Practice makes perfect and u'll see...u can do anything eventually'. Oh WOW.
.
Keep changing the 11's for each match.... Just like Pekerman did in 2006. Each had diff starters. Keep everyone involved and ......
.
Team spirit a must....

Batigol take out that little Argentina guy name Lio Messi and Barcelona would not be half the team they were..How many times have we seen Messi bail out Barcelona especially against teams like Real and Atlety in the past? over a trillion times..My point is Real as always been good to Argentine players and it started back in 1911..

Some of Argentina most influential players for Real Madrid..

- Sotero Aranguren-1911-1918

- Eulogio Aranguren -1911 - 1921

-Roque Olsen - 1950-1957

-Alfredo Di Stéfano - 1953-1971

-Héctor Rial - 1954-1961

-Juan Carlos Touriño- 1970-1976

-Roberto Juan Martínez - 1974-1980

-Jorge Valdano - 1984–1987

-Fernando Redondo - 1994–2000

-Angel Di maria - 2010–

Note these are some of Real Madrid most influential Argentine players, my list does not represent all the Argentine players that have played for Real Madrid..So with all this being said, Argentina have had the most players to represent Real Madrid outside of Spain in the club history..

The first Argentina player to represent Barcelona, I think was Rafael Zuviría back in 1977 and there weren't many Argentine players after him, Maradona comes to mind..

So I will forever respect Real Madrid more than Barcelona for how they always invest in our home grown talent...After all Real Madrid is the greatest club in the history of football..

"So over the past 13 years Messi, Mascherano, Saviola and, Milito are the only Argentine players to play for Barcelona while Real Madrid sign Argentine players like; Solari, Samuel, Cambiasso,Heinze, Saviola, Gago, Higuain,Garay and, Di Maria."

Guys just don't expect Barcelona to sign a bunch of Argentinian players, that is not going to happen. Barcelona is not a safe haven for Argentinian players..Lets see, Messi was one of the main reason Mascherano got pick up by Barcelona,if it wasn't for Messi lobbying for Mascherano, the move would have prove to be more difficult..So over the past 13 years Messi, Mascherano, Saviola and, Milito are the only Argentine players to play for Barcelona while Real Madrid sign Argentine players like; Solari, Samuel, Cambiasso,Heinze, Saviola, Gago, Higuain,Garay and, Di Maria..Lets be real guys if Messi wasn't at Barcelona none of us would have that much interest in the club to begin with..I don't see Barcelona buying any Argentine players anytime soon..Real Madrid will sign like 2 Argentine players this summer, mark my words..I have no problem with Real they have always been one of my favorite team in Spain behind (Pablo Aimar) Valencia but I just can't stand the current drama queen Ronaldo to tell you the truth..

The Brazilian economy has emerge over the years so there is a huge market for money in Barcelona point of view with a huge South American audience, so why not take as much Brazilian players to the Camp Nou? The more Brazilian players the better it will be for Barcelona financially(Barca board thinking?).They already bought Neymarket, now its DaviMarket..

Without trying to defend Luiz but Barca never had any success in the last 15 years or more trying to sign strong n tall CB with good defensive attributes. It never fits their DNA. Their CB in the last 15 years have been those who are good at controlling the ball such as: Puyol, Pique, Marquez, Abidal, Bartra, etc.

Those who are extremely defensive minded CB like Cryginski or whatever u spell it failed miserably.

Masche is not that good at controlling the ball, he is the exception, but he was originally bought as a DM.

thats why Barca said that it is never easy for them to look for CB. David Luiz is one of defenders who are good at controlling the ball as he plays DM sometimes. Actually Garay or Fazio fit this category too.

I agree man, David Luiz is a waste of time..If Mourinho a defensive minded coach cant trust David Luiz at the back, then why Barcelona cant get the big picture..Barcelona need to actual sign someone who can defend and not someone who can take the ball forward..I heard Ramires is also on the Barcelona books..And remember during the Neymar deal Barcelona had sign I think 3 Santos youth players to accompany Neymar. So I heard Mascherano, Alves, Cesc, Song, Sergi, Tello, Montoya will all be out this summer..
