An Argentine Will Lift the Europa League

Just like the UEFA Champions League, the other continental competition, the Europa League will guarantee to see an Albiceleste player lifting that trophy.

Juventus (who trailing 1-2 from the 1st leg), led by Carlos TEVEZ in the attack weren’t able to break Benfica defense marshal Ezequiel GARAY. In the end, a 0-0 draw was enough to see the Eagles from Portugal breaking the home supoorters heart of seeing their team playing in the Final on home soil.

However there were some unfortunate moments involving the Albiceleste players during the game. Enzo PEREZ was sent off in the 67th minute for committing a foul on Stephan LICHTSTEINER thus won’t be featruting in the Final. Also joining him in the suspension list is Eduardo SALVIO (who came in the 78th minute for Nicolas GAITAN), after picking a yellow card in injury time.

And the worrying part was when GARAY was stretched off in injury time for a taking a boot courtesy of Paul POGBA overhead kick.

Not sure to what extent the serious of he’s injury is, but maybe this selfie could explain that.

Not to forget, also attending the match was non-other than Diego MARADONA who apparently was present courtesy of invitation from Carlos TEVEZ.

Joining them in the Final are Federico FAZIO and Nicolas PAREJA, after a goal in the dying minutes from Sevilla broke the heart of Valencia who overturn a two goal deficit from the 1st leg to take a 3-0 lead. Pablo PIATTI was a starter but was substitute in the 61st minute for Federico CARTABIA.

Kenneth:
im with you on this.
I think he could be good but for now the w/c 14 is way to soon for him as he has offered nothing to show he's good enough at the moment(injuries, lack of form, lack of confidence and not actually playing)and simply put he does not deserve to go.

like Baker id take icardi

@baker Mundo is incredibly unfair, i honestly haven't seen a game of Lamela besides the Argentina U-20 where he was actually halfway decent for Argentina. All people talk about is the potential of him and what not, which is true i think he's a fantastic player and with some confidence he can be deadly off the bench for us, but as of right now i would not take him to Brazil.

Lamela assisted Higuain's goal vs Italy...Lamela can play friendlies before Worldcup and get prep and also vs Iran. Lamela has a good shot silky dribbling and pretty decent in the air. Lamela is liked by his argie temmates even aguero said he will do good in England...Italy dont start El shawrawy either he was off form before he got injured. Icardi is too open with his relationship and he is a man who loves fame and fortune over football...

baker Falcao, Rossi and El Shaarawy seems likely they will be making their respective world cup team roster, then why can't Lamela?

he is not a key part of the n/t.
because hes really down on confidence.
has not played for a long time.
pre injury in 3 caps did nothing to say he is good enough for the n/t.
hes still having back problems.
their are others at the moment who are in better form and deserve their chance.
the blue and white shirt has to be earned not given away.

lamela is a talent but this season has been a bad one, he is one for the future hopefully and at the moment id rather take an in form icardi then lamela and im a lamela supporter but a realist.

Bolivia 1 vs Argentina 1 - Eliminatorias Brasil 2014

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdpR0vKQBew&list=PL0gC4nhiCtUv1mY0R2QaxCQPfaJme5phZ

Tactically this game was one of Sabella smartest..The way he prepared the team for this high altitude game should not go unnoticed..Guys like Di Maria and Palacio ran like crazy in La Paz..Banega was also great in this match..Please just watch this 15 minutes highlights of the away game to Bolivia and you'll see how genius of a coach Sabella is..Bolivia was under countless counter attack at times even with Messi barely moving on the pitch due to sickness from the high altitude.

Sab can rely faith on rojo, he is talented, he has very good pace ehich us very much an additional quality for a full back... All rojo wanna do is bring more maturity in his play, composure on ball n prioritise de defensive part... Bt in case f romero relying faith is foolishness, what he is doin nw is his maximum, we cant expect much more than this frm him, dis is his best of talent n skill...

The point is exactly what biglia said in that article... If we start wit fab 4 leo n kun also need to track back n defend... Or atleast one more like masche need to be der in place of gago... Biglia or cambi or perez shud be der... Even if we hav de best pick of back 4 in de world n not gave dem ample protection in front they will suffer for sure...

''Argenitna has no defense'' ''Argentina has no defense'' blah blah balh..I believe A lot of our rival fans say these things because they fear our NT..Our rivals at this point wont admit Argentina has a quality side but instead they take cheap shot at our team..A lot of this hate on Argentina are aim solely at Messi, because he's in a great position to lift a world cup(well I am not saying people haven't hate on Argentina in past world cup but its different with Messi spear heading the team)..

Argentina lost by 4 goals in 2010 yet people think its 2010 all over again, and with that being said Argentina still had more shots on goal than Germany and more possession of the ball despite Maradona poor tactics..

2012 Germany conceded 4 goals in one half vs Sweden which add up to 7 over two legs yet nobody talk about their poor defending..

Italy under Prandelli has one of the worse defensive record in the history of Italian football yet no one say anything about this..Italy lost to Spain by 4 goals at the 2012 Euros yet nobody say Italy are doing poor defensively in recent times..

Historically Argentina always have great defenders at the world cup and 2014 will be no different..2010 was one of those weird occasion mainly due to Maradona tactics..Let them keep on talking about our ''defense is weak'' or ''Argentina does not have any defense'' all they want, it plays right into Sabella hands..Let them put 7 - 8 players high up in our half if they're brave enough..lol

One thing is absurde.
For years we needed to afraid head balls, cause our defenders were short or sloppy. Now we have great twin towers, but it means nothing, because our goalkeeper is bad in air.

The main issues with the team:

1) Keeper
2) Box-to-box mid - uncertainty

Other (Minor) Issues

3) Rojo is not a left back; is a great defender though - will need to be static against teams with good wingers
4) Higuain is the only true 9 we have - no backup - stay healthy and card free

But keeper must be calmest man on the field. If he needs to prove himself, it can be very bad.

Messi genius, whenever the subject of Argentina comes up and it doesn't matter where, ESPN, Fox, Fifa blogs...etc

Its always the same thing, Argentina has the best forwards money can buy but they cant defend worth a damn, they have no defense, look what happened to them in the WC, the Germans destroyed them, Messi in the locker room crying ...etc

Like we're still using the same defensive players from before, and bet you most of them have not watched ARG play since the last WC.

i dont think is not to blame, in my view, but rather only the 4 defenders and masche specialize in defending...

garay ff rojo and zabaleta r good defenders...
but, aside from masche, they need someone else to help them defend...

lamela can wait for the next world cup...
up front we have pipita kun dimaria and messi....

i rather bring enzo perez..

in the back we will have 7/8 defenders, only 2 will be exclusively centre back, max of 2 exclusive wing back, and the rest can play both in sabella's system...

Tevez had a decent game, cut inside so many times n tested de GK, bt is too predictable in finishing... His style f going for goal is easily readable... One most important quality on leo n aguero is deir un predictability, tevez may hav all de shots on book bt isnt utilising it in a better way in pitch...

Banega has a huge upside, and his talent is undeniable. His focus/discipline for 90 minutes and for training (health, booze, etc.) are the issues.

If he fixed those, I'd say he has the raw talent to be one of the best box to box mids in the game. His focus - losing the ball in really bad parts of the field - scares me, though.

Lamela plays a position where we have lots of talent and he hasn't played for 5 months now. His fitness and form will not be there, unless Sabella has him in mind for the final 15 minutes of a match to help get a game winner I don't see how he makes the team. Then again, Sabella has a love affair with Romero, so logic need not apply.

What other teams do isn't our problem - we shouldn't continue to field out of form, out of shape players at positions where we are 5 players deep in terms of top class talent.

It was said that if Juventus did not win the Europa cup then Serie A would lose its number 4 spot, I am not sure to which league though..And with the poor showing by Italian clubs for this season UCL made life even worse for Serie A.

I assume the UEFA club rankings will be like this for next season:

1. BPL
2. La Liga (is better than the overrated BPL)
3. Bundes Liga
4. Portuguese league
5. Serie A
6. Ligue 1

Our two starting CB's for the world cup will all be feature in important finals for their respective clubs before the world cup start,Garay with Benfica and Fernandez with Napoli to the exact, we just have to hope nothing goes wrong and they both stay healthy..This will be a good thing especially for Fernandez playing in a high calibre game..Things have workout perfectly for Fernandez this season (its funny how he (FF) was really a concern for many here at Mundo early on),both him and Garay together will be as good as any defensive pair at the world cup..Fazio is another option for the world cup, although I like Musacchio too, it seems like Fazio is more prepare at the moment and is a better option than both Otamendi and Lopez..

@Arg2014:(excuse me for not responding to you on the other comment section where it would have been better for the discussion) Banega will be as passionate for Argentina the same way you think Gaitan might be..Some of the players in our squad have a lot to prove and that is a good thing..Players like; Banega, Maxi, Basanta, Gago, Palacio, Lavezzi, Rojo, , Biglia, Campagrano and guess who else?Romero, yes Romero will have a point to prove is doubters wrong..This is why Sabella stick with these guys throughout the campaign, these lads are some dedicated bunch of players who are not super stars at BIG European clubs, which is a good thing for us going into the world cup,the less ego the better..We are not trying to take an allstar team to the world cup but one that will be a winning formula and that's exactly what Sabella is thinking...Not because Benfica made the Europa league finals and will probably win the cup give all the Argentine players at the club an automatic right for seleccion on the national team, the coach still as to do what's best for his team

I do agree with you about needing a young fresh passionate player coming off the bench, but is that player Icardi? I don't know man, I just hope Lamela make the world cup.For all this hyped around Icardi, I would rather a player like Lamela instead..Seeing Lamela playing against Italy early last year was a glimpse of what he can do..No need for Icardi Soap Opera on the national team at this moment.

Nice one Johnny!

I agree with you on the Pogba-Garay incident. It was purely an accident where one player was trying to score and accidentally , his foot landed on Garay's mouth unfortunately. Let's really not over-react, get carried away, and worst of all, wish harm or injury on some player.

I am sorry to do this, but I kindly reqest those interested to read my thoughts on Zanetti in that entry . In that are my thoughts on why I respect Zanetti so much and why he makes me proud to be an Argentine fan. It's kind of relevant :

Argentina needs a 6th striker and that should be Icardi. He's young, energetic, can recover from injury fast, unpredictable and other teams can't figure out his moves on pitch as of yet.

I support the inclusion of Icardi 100% since all big teams have a young sub striker with skills and speed.
