Alejandro SABELLA: "Our rivals will fear us"

Alejandro SABELLA spoke about Argentina and the World Cup.

Alejandro SABELLA commented on the World Cup and whether or not he will be taking 7 or 8 defenders. Here's what he had to say:

"Our rivals will fear us. Argentina has an amazing front line."

"It's very hard to be World champions. We don't have to believe that we are the best. In fact, we know we're not the best, but we are a candidate. We can't go into the tournament thinking we've won it."

"I don't know if I'll take 7 or 8 defenders. Depends on whether I include another midfielder. The best thing is to try and cover all the areas. Almost certainly those who are here now will be making it."

The top midfielders in the world today in my opinion and in no particular order:
Xavi
Iniesta
Martinez
Busquets
Mascherano
Di Maria
Schwienstiger
Guetze
Kidhera
Gerrard
Alonso
Lampard
Yaya toure
Oscar
Fernandhino
Silva
Pirlo

Banega, Gago or Biglia wouldn't feature in my squad. Unfortunately when all we did was to produce a chain of world class midfielders who proved there worth on the big stage when asked. Riquelme may not have become a European legend but he was well respected across la liga. redondo veron Simeon aimar almeyda players of these caliber have yet to appear once again of a healthy conveyor belt

Anyone know of gago's condition?
It's been raised time and time again about the whole CM position and whether Gago can hold it together against the tougher opposition. If he is not healthy at the moment then this is frighteningly worrying for us supporters to endure if we watch bigger fish drown us out in midfield.
This world cup will be like every other previous world cup. Won by a team with a strong defence and midfield.
I honestly don't have major issues with our defence. Zabeleta and Garay are stellar defenders. Granted that Fernandez is not getting enough game time but he is more than ok. Rojo isn't that bad. Actually no he's good.
Di Maria has been playing the same role required of him for Real Madrid as is for the NT. Which has improved his alot and is just brilliant news for us as he won't feel disjointed now for us. Messi for me needs to drop deep to help out Gago.

Pachorra, we share the same concern. Sabella and all of Argentina are hoping that Gago will be that connection between defense and attackers and like I've said before, I really think he is talented enough to do what is asked of him but he hasn't shown decent form in the Argentine Primera, a league deemed by some to be of very low quality, and has trouble staying healthy. Other than Gago, we do not have a player similar to him and his qualities other than Juan Sebastian Veron. And I'm pretty sure no one wants to see Veron in an Argentina shirt in Brazil. Banega is good but hot headed and can be sloppy on defense. Biglia is also good, maybe a better choice than Gago but he needs time to gel with the team. Even players Sabella has not called do not have the same qualities that Gago has. Some are more defensive and some more offensive. This leaves the team with no choice but to adapt to whoever he decides to put on and that could destabilize the flow of any match.

I can live with everything else but Gago's position and his ability to stay healthy greatly concerns me and it always has. As long as Enzo Perez, Leandro Benitez, Rodrigo Braña or Leandro Desabato aren't in the final list, I think I can deal with the defense and offensive choices Sabella has made. I think I'd even be ok with Jose Sosa as part of the team but the whole Gago situation is where I think we are weakest. Just my opinion.

I am more concerned about the midfield... In the attack we are OK... I rather see Tevez but be completely honest, he is not indispensable, at least for me... With Gago so out of shape, who is going to generate game volume to the attackers? Di Maria?

@Pradi: Liverpool isnt a mere counter attacking team, they mix it up with the possession & high pressing game..

@Mafioso: yeah, ferguson's team was attacking, good to watch but they count to nothing bcoz of the referees & fa involved in their victories..

More than one of the guys here has commented that no one plays with a #10 anymore. I'd urge you to watch a little Brazilian Serie A. Just about every team plays with a central playmaker if they are lucky enough to have one. Lots of teams in Chile also still utilize the formation with a central playmaker and in Argentina? Fugetaboutit.

Also, Diego Latorre's tweet about Pastore's goal yesterday summed up that play better than anyone else. "Niño Pastore, un poco de potrero en un mundo de profesionales" EPIC.

@Thinker

I am not saying that the theory of "the stronger will always beat the weaker" will always work. I am saying this 2014 has been the year of the stronger teams as you can see in the CL. It has been unusual.

Usually in every CL, at least there was one "dark horse" in the semis like Dortmund last year for example, but this year, it seems the 4 strongest ones will book their tickets in the semis (Barca-Atletico still 50-50 though).

Of course I know the WC had many surprises in the past, the likes of Croatia or Turkey or South Korea were "nobody" but made it to the semis. I am just telling you what happened in the CL this year has been very unusual. Bayern, Barca, Madrid, and PSG must have been #1 seed - #4 seed if there is anything like that and they are about to book their tickets in the semis.

Just like in Tennis you know, Wimbledon, or other grand slams, it is very rare where the top 4 players book their tickets in the semis. Usually there were always surprises.

I agree with Kidult. The #1 seed in WC is Brazil,#2 Argentina then Spain and Germany. Check out the latest betting if you don't believe.

@el principe: I don't buy that theory. If that was the case, Fifa No.1 and No.2, Spain and Germany would have played a match and decided the world cup champion. There was no need for a tournament in the first place.

The key here is to BE CAREFUL. Take each opponent with all seriousness and finish the game off. Celebrating too early is suicidal. Whoever it is, be it Switzerland or Ecuador in Round of 16 and Portugal or Belgium in the quarter final, just finish off the matches and somehow go into the semis. We will see from there.

That's all people say, ''Argentina doesn't have any defensive'' even if they don't watch a game like in years..Just look at the German team defense in this season UCL, they have been dismal...Well I am glad people still think Argentina defense is bad, that means less park bus tactics when they play against us and more attacking, the better for us..

The Daily Mail is a joke, they had a Manchester Derby team which include both Man City and Man United players and for some reason Aguero was not good enough for them to make the team but Welbeck was..lol

no i didn't say you were,, only those fans who want tevez, pastore in the team.. which will be an absolute suicide to the chemistry and harmony that sabella has built in this squad over the years..

sites like Goal.com and Dailymail are talking as if brazil would win unopposed.. they are also throwing spain and germany in the scene but not argentina as they still think argentina doesn't have a "proper" defense.. HA,, let these fools think that,, when messi will hold the cup high in the air,, these idiots will eat each and every they are saying now...

Bro I never said I love the idea of Argentina being favorites but the media have other ideas...I too like Sabella approach to each game..The friendly game vs Bosnia Herz in the US, Sabella said Bosnia were the favorites for that game but in the real world nobody was saying that, not even the Bosnia coach believe that they were the favorites..Don't be surprise if Sabella do it again during the world cup, he probably will likely say Iran is also the favorites over Argentina...So now you're calling fans ''FOOLS'' for being pump up about the team chances in Brazil?

Great video.Just look at Veratti's face!! It seems PSG's dressing room environment is really great. You can see the natural free flowing relations between players and coaching staffs...I know Lavezzi is a big facctor here.He is such a sociable and funny character! He is an asset for the manager.

Want a happy team?Throw Lavezzi there. And much talked Tevez? He can start arguments and disputations even in an empty room -_-

you want to tag argentina as "favorites" because you've not experienced the tragedies of argentina in the past.. you've only seen messi and co playing and suddenly you are jumping on your sofa..

It is why i thank God that Sabella is our coach.. He keeps everything,, doesn't blow the trumpet at all,, brings absolutely no emotion to his profession and in the end,, gets the JOB done.. if he was an emotional fool like many fans here,, he would have selected Tevez,Willy,Pastore,Riquelme,Aimar,Zanetti and would've declared argentina as champions today.. He is a professional,,a realist,, he knows tevez, pastore, riquelme doesn't fit in the system and s wioll not pick them and besides,, picking these players like Tevez will mean more Paparazzi attention and Sabella would never want that..

Stop blowing that trumpet of yours.. you can blow it as much as you want AFTER argentina has won the cup...

I don't buy into the favorite thing but the last time I check Brazil and Argentina were the two top favorites to win on ESPN,CNN, Bleacher Report etc due to the world cup being played in South America and given that a South American team won all the world cups being played on the continent..I don't want us to be tag as favorites but a team with Messi and co playing in Brazil can't hide from the favorite tag no matter how the team and Sabella tries to play it down..

There was also a vote by different media outlet on who will win the next cup after the draw was finish, Argentina and Brazil were the top two most voted teams..Most people in the media are predicting a Brazil vs Argentina final..With all this being said it means nothing until the wc starts...

You completely misunderstood.. Argentina does have many advantages in this WC but sabella is REFUSING to label argentina as a favorite.. Did you watch 2002 WC??? Argentina had a squad which was 10 times stronger than this current squad... they were billed as the most hottest favorite of that WC.. Brazil were wounded underdogs.. and in the end,, we all know what happened..

The press and the fans see brazil, germany, spain as favorites BUT argentina has a lot of advantages which these media personnels are unable to see.. Sabella KNOWS that argentina has the huge advantage of playing all the games in south in front of large argentina fans but STILL he refuses to label argentina as favorite.. BECAUSE he doesn't want to put unnecessary pressure on argentina.. it was the problem in 2002 and 06 WC that we had squads with such full of talent that anything less than a WC victory was considered a failure.. we didn't even make it to the semifinal and now some outsiders even have the nerve to call us "chokers" as we haven't been to semifinal for over 24 years.. that is why the last thing we need in the WC is unnecessary pressure.. Sabella is playing a very clever game and is keeping everything quiet while the trumpet is blowing fully for spain,brazil,germany.. and the HEAT will be on their shoulders,, they will be bound to give in to the pressure at some point.. and in that time,, argentina can cooly reach the semifinal without anyone even noticing.. and before those paparazzis open their filthy mouths,, argentina can very well win their 3rd WC..this is EXACTLY what sabella wants and he has the tools to accomplish his grand plan and in my opinion,, he will NOT fail..

Just sit back and enjoy the WC.. don't just shout like a headless chicken..

Carlos Alberto Torres: Brazil is good but not extraordinary..

"We have a very good team, but it's too early to start celebrating. We cannot ignore the strength of our opponents," the 69-year-old told Goal. "

This guy got a reality check after seeing the dismal performance by a number of his core Brazilian world cup team members in yesterday UCL game..

The Thinker what are you saying we are not ''hot favorites''not that it means anything but that's just ridiculous given the location of the world cup..Even if I wasn't a Argentina fan how could I look at this team and not say they're hot favorites, my friend Spain only has one world cup.

Carlos Alberto: "There are always the same five or six teams that are the favorites to win it: Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Spain and Netherlands. The winner nearly always comes out of these teams."

To say Argentina is not a world cup favorite for a tournament that is being held in South America and the draw they got plus Argentina playing majority of their games in the same location with less traveling etc is just crazy talk...To say Spain and Germany has a better chance at winning in Brazil over Argentina is just pure nonsense..History doesn't back up your claims man..

@el principe-- whether you like it or not,, world cup doesn't follow your theory.. in every WC,, there was always atleast one underdog who would reach the semifinal.. 94 WC-- romania,sweden.. 98 WC-- Croatia.. 2002 was the WC of underdogs.. Turkey, korea,Brazil, germany were not even counted before the tournament started.. and in the end,, the Brazil team which suffered their worst qualification in history,, emphatically won their fifth title.. Italy,France were outsiders before the 2006 WC.. Uruguay surprised everyone in 2010.. So basically,, it is the opposite.. the weaker and underdog ALWAYS makes an impact in the WC..

we are not going into 2014 as Hot favorites.. Brazil,Germany,Spain are clear pre-tournament favorites and the pressure will be on them.. which is good for us.. and one of chile/belgium/uruguay will surely reach the semifinal.. so just forget about these stupid theories and stats.. Just sit back and enjoy the magic of the WC..

See... the stronger always beats the weaker. PSG and Madrid will go through. Bayern would beat MU. Aletico is slightly in advantage by their 1-1 result, but I don't think they can beat Barca at home. Barca would score at least a goal there.

What I like about Mundo today is it is alive. Last night for example, only Lavezzi and Pastore played but so many new comments in less than 24 hours after. We love talking about football here. The news update is very quick here. Some even update the news faster than Roy did. We have so much passion. We are really true fans.

I don't know how busy this site will it get by the World Cup, but I think the members we have here is way too few (not too many, yes too few). For a team like Argentina, who are always known for its attractive football, either in Pekerman era or Bielsa's ball possession or Sabella's counter attack; a team whose jersey is the best looking in the world; a team whose girls and food are the best in the world; a team who have the 8th wonder of the world named Lionel Messi, we should attract more than "hundreds" of (active) members. I mean this is Argentina! Anytime a poll is conducted, the voters should be thousands instead of around 100+.

Ole.com.ar for example, anytime they had a poll conducted, always thousands took part. I know it is because it is their their local team (Argentina), but here we have people from all around the world, even some are from Argentina or are Argentines.

I am pretty sure if those Argentine fans speak English, they would be happy to join our family.

I honestly would like to see this site grow even more. Maybe when we win the World Cup, we'll have at least double the number we have now.

This is how I look at Sabella from a distance:

If Sabella wanted to win this world cup, he should have included some players (will be mentioned below). Now it's too late since these players haven't built some chemistry with the rest of the squad, but I'm saying he had the chance to come up with a lethal crew.

1) Willy is A MUST as a goalie "best option we have".
2) Cambiasso is A MUST as a midfielder "we lack his style".
3) Tevez is A MUST as a sub...best shooter on goal.
4) Gaitan is A FLAIR to our attacking power as AM.
5) Absolutely no Rojo, no Sosa, no crappy 6th attacker. With Rojo, teams will own the left wing.

To people who mentioned that Brazil is not that strong, go get your eyes tested before June. If you think Germany is overrated, you haven't watched enough World cups in your life, and if you think England is not a powerhouse, I hope you stand by your word if we meet them in the knockout stages.....shitting in pants is restricted.

Reality chech is needed once in a while.

I saw some members here are mentioning beautiful football. And they mean possession football as the beautiful football.I say why one team have to play possession football to be regarded as beautiful team?Is beauty something one dimensional?

I think football's beauty solely depends on player's
skill and charishma rather than style. Each style can be beautiful if proper players are used.

Possession football is worth watching when Barca plays it,sleeping pill when Spain plays. What's the difference? Messi and Alves.

I find it really beautiful and exciting when Bale,Di Maria,Ronaldo run together at full speed, with Modric behind them. And I used to find it really amazing when old Italian teams defended with great skill and intelligence as if they are playing chess. You can not but admire the way SAF's MU used play.He showed the simplicity of this game-defend as team and attack as a team.

So when someone says you need a classical no 10 and possession based football to be regarded as beautiful football,I find it very silly.Barca plays possession football, but no classical no 10 there.Bielsa's team played breathtaking footbal, but no no. 10 !!

Last of all,I really enjoy the way Argentina plays now a days.Counter attacks at highest speed with player of
best skill and flair-that's something unique !!

I don't miss past :)

It's good to see Messi giving his optimal and reserving the rest for the world cup. In the Athletico match, he was more happy to engage Neymar and Sanchez and keep himself stationed deeper down the pitch. That's really wise.

I wish Pastore could have shown this game at least a year back. Sabella has been trying a third defender (after Mascherano and Gago) with more attacking intent all this time and tried the likes of Banega, Ricky, Lamela, Maxi et al. While all of them showed good form in Argentina shirt, Pastore didn't get a call up. He could have been a perfect man to link our defensive midfield and Messi. And he can attack and score goals as well.

It's too late now!! :(

many people here is writing off barca.. it is in barca's nature to prove doubters and hypocrites wrong.. next week,, no matter what happens,, barca would knock atletico out.. messi didn't take risk in the first leg,, he will come out with all cylinders firing in the second leg.. and given the current crisis in barca,, this would sharpen their resolve dramatically.. they will play every match like a final, will take nothing for granted..

@KidultHood: Tata is no match to Simeone....I mean Atletico don't have names like Messi, Neymar, Xavi, Iniesta, Sergi, Alves, Mascherano, etc...these are the best players in the world in every position, what do Atletico have comparing to Barca in terms of player weight? The coach is half of the team.....Simeone got an away goal despite what Tata declared prior to the game that Barca would play in a system to prevent an away goal.....I thought that was funny statement from Tata who should have spent more time on preparing for games than talking crap.
The bottom line Barca will not beat Atletico next week and I'm going for a scoreless draw. Barca's bench is thinner than any top European club now and that is another barrier. You can't win titles with just midfielders and attackers.

Spain, Argentina, Germany, France are all better teams/squads on paper than Brazil..But what Brazil have going for them is the home court advantage,so it balance out what ever advantages teams like Argentina, Spain, Germany, and France would have over them individually..This current Brazilian team is the weakest I have seen but that doesn't mean they wont be a force this summer..I truly believe if Diego Costa had chose Brazil, then it would have been even harder to beat them at home..Costa is that traditional #9 Brazil is missing at the moment...I do think though that Costa would be a more effective player playing for Brazil than Spain, I am also glad he (Costa) chooses Spain over Brazil.

Mourinho's face made my night. Beaten up by Argentine talents was simply amazing!

El Pocho was the man of the show, like if Ibra and Cavani never existed!

Now I'm pretty sure that Sabella created the best package for his attacking line by choosing Palacio and Lavezzi "the trouble makers" to support his foundation. The two would cause havoc to any defensive line once stepped on the field.

As for Pastore, he added flavor to the French toast. Yes, it was a wonder goal and it should bring back the confidence to the young man. He still needs grit in order to reach his potential. We have unlimited talents for this spot and it's ruled by Messi's half role!

This is how I see the champions League Semi finalists:
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, and Atletico Madrid.
I know Barca came in the past from a deficit and were able to beat AC Milan, but not this time....with no defenders at all, no decent goalkeeper, it is hard no matter how great is the magic from Iniesta and Messi.

Since Bayern won't win it back to back, I would think PSG is the team to beat. Real Madrid will face a Spanish side in the semi final indeed since they don't want 2 Spanish clubs in the finale, So most likely Real Madrid will play Atletico Madrid, and the winner will play against either PSG or Bayern.

Kid i completely agree with you and jairzinho infact football is a team work whether it is of overrated or underrated, the team with good team spitit wins the game. Naymar and ronaldo dives why? Bcoz they want to win the game. Its us fan which we dont like because it feels us pain when we loose but every naymar and ronaldo fan anxiously look and hope for good outcome from that dives. I still want a good diver in argentina team infact it is most needed in todays football. A dive can change a match suddenly.

@johnny : always nice to read ur comments :)

@Sudhirfadi : luiz is a good player , he shows 100% commitment to the jersey he is playing .
but is he a good CB...? a big Nooooooo . he never starts as CB for big matches under mourinjo as well rafa.

and if he is argentine , sabella for sure wont pick him.

Sudhirfadi I too love football but I too believe a lot of the current Brazilian players are overrated..Even Brazilian legend like Jairzinho don't think this current Brazilian squad have the star quality.

Jairzinho: Brazil lack star quality

"I can only say today there is a lack of stars in Brazilian football," Jairzinho told AFP in an exclusive interview. "In 1970, we had practically 11 stars out there on the field. We were the only team in the world who had five No10s out there playing together. But football has changed - it was much more attack-minded then."

Baker, actually ramirez is underrated player. If david luiz was argentine do you still rate him overrated? Yes, oscar is overrated but coming from different climate and league at the age of 22/23 and setting fast in a huge european club with highly rated manager is not a small thing. For me william is overrated. Reading this comment you may say i am a brasilian fan truth is that i am a huge football fan and never criticize players besite argentina like you member does. You people thinks argentina is football but i thinks football is argentina.

Well, I'm supposed to be semi retired but obviously I'm having a tough time staying away !:)

So, wonderful to see Lavazzi and Pastore shine. I can hear a bunch of fans across the world saying, "Who are those guys ?!". Well, one can't break into the starting eleven for the Argentina NT and the other can't even make the squad. It shows what an incredible surplus we have in attacking talent. If Lavezzi and Pastore were Greek they'd never have to pay for a gyro as long as they lived.

And off topic-I am truly saddened to see what is happening at Barcelona. I blame Rosell but I fear the table was being set before he was elected president. First the Real Madrid-like signing of player/personality/Galactico Neymar and the lies about the money involved. Now the under 18 mess, where Barca are clearly guilty of, if not breaking rules, then making a mockery of them.

For too long both Real Madrid and Barca have been over babied by the Spanish government and Spain's football federation. Now it appears that both clubs think they are bigger than the laws, rules and regulations. I used to think Real Madrid was the biggest guilty party but now it seems that if they are...it ain't by much. Alarming.

Well said @elpipita; Pastore best days at Palermo is not yet repeated at P$G and N/T; anyhow last night he looks like regain his confident and the fighting spirit although playing less than 10 minutes he bring the great impact. I would prefer Lamela to be given the chance to join this WC. Ricky is definitely in the list of Sabella's selection.

Hope FIFA overturned barcelona ban. Chelsea were lucky in 2010 after getting banned lets hope this time barca to be lucky.I really want mascerano to leave camp nou and want mateo M. To barcelona. Remain tata as a manager and go for at least 2 argentine in the transfers. Here are some argentine player whom we may see in this clubs next season, Luciano vietto( real madrid), mateo musachhio (barca if ban is overturned), angel corea( ath madrid), romero ( valencia), exequel garay( man und), marcos rojo(liverpool), zaculini( man city done deal),guilermo ruili( man city), juan manuel iturbe( chelsea), manuel lanzini( arsenal) peredez( loan back to roma from chievo), lamela( considering loan for juventus),lavezzi ( internnazionale),pastore( milan), mascerano( napoli if fifa overturned the ban). Beside this simeone may move to inter or man und( leading man to take job) where as pochetinho also is in verge of leaving southampton for bigger clubs. Lets hope where ever this manager go or stay they should give emphasizes on argentine players.....

Pastore has bags of talent but talent alone isn't enough. What Javier needs to do now is prove that he's the real deal and not a one league wonder.
Argentina has always produced exceptionally talented footballers but I think many of them suffered from either inflated egos (Requilime & Tevez) or lack of fighting spirit (pastore).
To have any hope for the WC Argentina will need the likes of Masch, Gago, zaba, Garay/FF (all of whom have bags and bags of grit and spirit) to counter balance the likes of messi, kun and Di-maria, who in-turn possess almost unparalleled talent.

@kidulthood you said that pastore is much better than Ricky Alvarez and while I respect your opionion I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you.
Pastore might be the more talented of the 2 but Ricky has the type of grit, versatility and defensive discipline that pastore can only dream of and if given a choice between the 2 then I personally would Ricky any day of the week and twice on sunday.

Some of you here have mentioned that the classic enganche (no.10) is a relic of the past but I have to respectfully disagree.
Football like everything is constantly evolving and as such a 10 like Oscar (creative, offensively capable yet defensively disciplined) is far more desired than a 10 like Requilime or Pastore (very talented going forward but hardly put in any effort in defense thus putting a added pressure on the defensive players).

Pastore has almost zero chance of making it to the world cup and rightfully so since he's yet to prove his consistency and worth, but if today's performance is a preview of things to come then I would welcome him into Argentina's future.

Hi guys..been a regular to this site for years. Registered atlast on d impulse of the moment..believe that Sebella got a plan..if he believes that the forwards are sufficient and capable of destroying most opponents, can't disagree after the el classico... but he is still thinking about a mid fielder.is he planning to bring an experienced hand or a fresher into the picture? ?
Even though he's still travelling around to watch certain players, I got a feels at that he's trying to visualise those players over the ones he got in mind n to do a pros n cons list on each one of them.. so we're just being sceptical about Di santos making the squad. But our real need is one player whos able to read d game n try not to make extravagant moves but distribute ball well.. with sabellas strict rules cannot think anyone having such a quality making d team.. n its late to add new faces..but should Sabella bring new players?? I'm not so sure. Its not proven that all great club players are great for n.t..we have ample examples..

The Thinker Bartra job got easy because Costa was injured and had to be sub..Bartra did nothing special yesterday..By the way just look at the other chance Villa had when he just walk around Bartra to shoot just wide of the far post..Bartra is overrated!!!He was absolutely horrible against Real Sociedad..Pique may not be the best defender at the moment but I rather have him playing against Real in the Copa Del Rey final than Bartra..If Costa is fit for the next leg, I don't see Barcelona progressing with Pinto and Bartra at the back..

Earlier dis season wen tata gav bartra chance in his rotation system pundits praised his prfmnc very highly.... Bt if he need to play masch wud b sacrfcd, rplcng pique wnt hpns will rslt in politics.... Bt then both pique n bartra is nt capable f single handedly mng de role f masch, datz most of de barca attacks masch will b stayng alone in own half n all othr will tak part in atck.... Bt pique in dat role will be too slow n bartra isnt matured for the task.... Datz y its still masch n pique first choice....

did you see the barca-atletico match??? Bartra is far better defender than pique and is more than capable enough to defend at the highest level.. if he wasn't there then barca would've conceded even more.. the problem is GK,, Pinto is very unpredictable.. one moment he makes a brilliant save another moment he gives the ball straight to the striker..

if iniesta, messi, neymar can hold their form until 2015,, barca can still win major trophies..

Really.... Barca mngmnt felt glories cmng so easily for them... Last season without a proper coach they had a pretty cmftbl season... That made them ovr cnfdnt.... Wat barca needed was not a neymar, a tall dfndr nd may b a conventional num 9.... They nt evn cnsdrd on a btr rsrv keeper.... You may hav a great successfull team bt it is imprtnt to gt dat updated frequently.... I wud say tata has done a gr8 job at barca, before his arrival they didnt hav any idea on playng intnse or more direct futbol or wing attacks.... Most ridiculous was not signed any1 n sold tiago to bayern.... Anyway this s a much needed eye opener for them....

@Thinker yes Barcelona has the best youth system but Tello, Montoya, and Sergi Roberto doesn't cut it man..This ban also affect Barcelona loan players like Deulofeu, Rafihna, and Bojan..None of these loan players will be able to come back under the current ban..Rosell was the problem, I heard Tata had several players in mind and he (Rosell) did not lift a pen to sign one..Puyol is retiring at the end of the season, so who will be Barcelona defender? Bartra is not physical enough to defend at the highest level..Valdes is out for 7 months, so what now..Barcelona have dug this hole for themselves, they believe the 2009 and 2011 class was going to last forever? Barcelona never seems took look towards the future, well Pep Guardiola saw a future at Bayern and he took it..

Barca doesn't need transfer window.. Barcelona has the best youth academy in the world where players like messi, xavi, iniesta, valdes have come out.. FIFA punish barcelona for the illegal transferring of players under 18 but they don't punish English teams who do real human-trafficking..

These off-field issues don't affect barca's performance.. there were many talks on how barca would get badly beaten by Madrid,, Tata will get sacked and so on.. and in the el clasico,, Barca outclassed madrid in their own den and Tata was the tactical genius.. This off-field bullshits will only strengthen Barca's resolve and i can see Barca winning both League and Cup and reaching CL semifinal.. Real Madrid can spend billions as usual,, they will win NOTHING...mark my words..

argentina is always blessed with players like pastore.. we had riquelme, aimar, ortega before.. pastore is a classic playmaker(#10),, a very rare kind nowadays because teams now play with either a false No.9 and deep-lying playmaker which means there is no use of a true No.10 .. the demise of No.10s came in 2006 after the retirement of Zidane.. So they are almost extinct in world football nowadays,, pastore is the last of its species which continues to shine brightly..

Sabella has builded a modern team.. No matter how much,, pastore doesn't fit in the system.. Pastore would've fitted perfectly in the 2006 argentina squad but not now.. Argentina boasts a long line of talented players but you cannot chose them all,, you have to make the hard decision to sacrifice someone.. No wonder Sabella is called the "Sloth",, he doesn't bring emotion in his profession.. He is a cold-hearted tactician who knows how to win tournaments.. and for us,, that is an even better news rather than the exclusion of some star players..

What a goal by Pastore!
Even before the goal he looked so comfortable on the ball....hopefully this injects him with the confidence and gets him back on track. He is such a talent and i was sad to see him lingering in PSG. This goal was a reminder but besides the goal his passing and possession of the ball was so comfortable. The Chelsea players had no idea how to tackle him due to close control.

I careless what whoscored have to say about players..The players that are scrutinize the most here are the ones that will step up and be the unlikely heroes..People here seems to forget that Romero played in the last game against Romania which he didn't concede a goal..By the way, Romero haven't concede a goal in the last 3 games for Argentina...Not making a case for Romero but he is always solid for us...Which keeper doesn't make mistake? it was Iker Casillas terrible mistake that led to Fred first goal at the confederation cup..it was Buffon mistake that led to 2 of Japan goal and Neymar goal at the confederation cup..People here need to calm down, I careless what Whoscored has to say about football players...Come world cup Romero will be great for us, I just don't get this constant hate on Romero here, like he's some bush league player..Willy Cabellero is no hero here mate, and I hope Sabella doesn't select him, I for one is with Sabella on his selections..There is a reason why he haven't select Tevez and Cabellero thus for..We have qualify for the world cup without Willy Cabellero, with Romero working is sox off, then to be drop for some fan favorite goalkeeper here on Mundo, no way! Romero is Argentina #1, if anyone don't like him keeping for us then go cheer for another team...

Whoscored.com is the most reliable source to asses a player, according to it our current goalkeepers are crap and those who are not gna make the squad have no significant weakness and in spite of playing for avarage teams they have shown they are top class, World cup is such a tournament in which your base have to be in top shape if you want to win it, an error at a crucial moment could decide a match on contrary a top save can decide whether you are in the match or not, now its all up to our coach to decide.
