Argentina to play Germany in September

Argentina will play a friendly match against Germany in September. The match will take place on September 3 in Duesseldorf, Germany. The DFB's General Secretary had this to say:

"It is our clear intention to play big and tough football nations outside the qualifiers. That is the wish of the coach and that is also attractive for fans."

"We succeeded in doing that with Argentina and I am certain that we will have an equally tough opponent for the last international of the year."

el principe you are right about crossing technique, however the quality of cross is not in question here.
Argentina is not known for scoring to much headers in open play barring exceptions and set pieces.
The reason a tall (Good) striker is needed is primarily that is ensures the back 2 defenders have a complicated time. What i mean by that is defenders hate dynamic forwards who can dribble and are dangerous in the air. Its just a nightmare it makes them unpredictable. However a coach who is preparing his defense would love if he knows the limitations of a strike force. If the coach knows the players tend to dribble more or rely on crosses they can adjust their game to suit. Sabella actually did this against...Peru i believe (i could be wrong when he used the 5 at the back) our wingers were roasted but they sent it cross after cross after cross with no success. Sabella showed his tactical knowledge about the team because he realized the strikers at their disposal were not dribblers and relied heavily on crosses.
I don't think he wants a tall striker just for the sake of having a tall guy in there a dynamic different option. A guy who changes things up a bit like Crespo,Bati,Milito...these guys were a pain in the ass because they could score all kinds of goals. Defenders hate that..in a tight game these type of players come in handy. Sabella has tried Di Santo but he is a far cry from the quality we are looking for. If a coach is defensive and forces argentina to rely on crosses we will have some problems and this presents a solution.
A defense that knows you have dynamic forwards will always be a problem for them.

So even if you have quality crossers and we do a good high level coach at world cup will see hey argentina don't have tall guys and base their training on defending against dribblers...aka ugly football (Germany 2010, Brazil Confed cup 2004,Copa america 2008,All teams at copa america 2011)

I am not saying its really a dire need that we get a tall striker but having another option is always a good thing.

Let Aguero and Gago come to full form. Then this attack will be unbelievable.

---Aguero---Higuain

--------Messi

----Di Maria---Gago

Honestly real great crossers like Beckham or Di Maria don't really need tall strikers for their crossing to be effective. There are flat crosses and drill crosses. Flat crosses are intended to the taller strikers. That's what you guys here talk about. The better someone is in the air, the more effective flat crosses are.

Drill crosses are intented for quicker players like Aguero, Romario, Michael Owen, Messi, etc. One of the masters of this drill crosses other is Dani Alves. If Di Maria is good at both crosses. Alves is good at drill crosses only. Drill crosses intends to put the ball in the "dangerous spot" so the quicker players will be quicker to get there and score.

Di Maria first cross to Benzema was flat cross. His second is more of drill cross. Here is the perfect example of his drill cross for Argentina that resulted in Messi's goal:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-veWc1ukNYo

Check out the first goal in 33rd second - 42 second in the video.

As we know none of the big three we have: Messi, Aguero, and Higuain are that good in the air. So Di Maria's drill crosses are effective for them. Watch WCQ 2014 and our friendlies again in youtube. Di Maria's assist ratio/game is even better than his assist ratio/game for Madrid and a lot of his assists were drill crosses.

@Kidadulthood ....i wish i was wrong about the refs...
Fifa+Brazil = buddies for years. Brazil is their market team. People forget FIFA is a tournament.....like any event its designed to entertain and make money.

Brazil has and always will be the TEAM that is marketed as the greatest team (yes i know man ppl disagree)

Maradona is a pot head but him and many others are very much spot on when they call out FIFA on their BS.
I know you are Mr. Positive but their is history and reason for what i am saying. I wish it wasn't true....fifa paints argentina and wrongfully so as Villains...and thugs of football.

But i hope you are right if Sep Blatter does like Fifa and fifa is out to make lots of $$$ he will want Messi at least in the Final. From a buisness side of things it may work in our favour!

Knowing all these dark elements in international football my love for this team is stronger each world cup...i want that world cup so bad.

@Baker The difference is that our FAB 4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THE BBC are whatever that means lol..

@Trini I don't see the refs favoring Brazil at the world cup..I am going to say this, and its the truth,Sepp Blatter want Messi to win the world cup under his watch as FIFA president..So that's why I don't see Brazil getting many favored call at the wc, maybe against minnow teams but not against the elite teams..Do you guys really think FIFA care about the protest in Brazil? As long as it don't affect the tournament, FIFA careless what happen in Brazil outside of football.

Di maria's crosses were so good.
I can see where the tall striker option would come in handy if required...a GOOD tall Striker.
What is so amazing about Messi...its clear to me that he is not even playing at his best yet.
He turns it on then cools it a bit.....

As for Brazil and ref calls...i am sick of them and their footballing hipocrisy. In the Copa America 2008 they kicked, hacked, choked players...kicked the crap out of ours players. When asked about their physical, rough style of play..."systematic fouling" was the phrase used by the pres...if Argentina applied that tactic.."DIRTY ARGENTINES, RUGGED" blah blah
So sick of Brazil i would so love if we win this cup in Brazil..love it love it love IT!

I know its difficult...i know all the tactical stuff and issues aside...i don't care i love this team and they deserve some happiness!

i want this world cup so bad...its like an obsession.

Barca is winning this league i have absolutely no doubt.. it will go down to the very last game against Atletico madrid in Camp Nou but barca will emerge as winners..

arg2014 but it was Real defender who got a red card not Barcelona defender..Before this game Barcelona have conceded 22 goals and Real Madrid 26 goals, so whose defense is better..Now Barcelona have conceded 25 goals and Real Madrid have conceded 30 goals, again whose defending is better..

I will be smiling if we meet Spain at the world cup and Ramos, Pique, and Arbeola are defending for them..

Ramos fouled Neymar, end of story..Alonso fouled Iniesta, end of story..

4. DI MARIA (10)
5. MESSI (10)

cristina's penalty was NOT a penalty.. neymar could've scored himself but ramos had other ideas.. and in the end,, messi shows why he is the greatest player of this generation and this might be the year in which becomes THE GREATEST..Masche hold out cristina real good.. Pique played the match of his life..

The referee today was awesome. I think the only minor mistake he did was not giving red card to Pepe earlier in first half. All three penalties were correct.

Messi is right when he said that Barca is back. The game is the game of the year in all league. Amazing entertaining game.

It's a game from 2 totally different team. It's like taichi (Barca) vs. Kung fu (Madrid) to me. Or Jet Lee vs. Donnie Yen. Barca played patient game as usual. Patiently finding the right man, the best space to have the highest percentage of scoring. The same philosophy that Gregg Popovich (basketbal/Spurs) has. Madrid philosophy is attack the ball as fast as possible when you have the ball. Their fantastic four was awesome and scarry.

It's just amazing. I am glad that Messi and Di Maria were big parts of each team and were the 2 best players on the pitch!

@KidultHood: I still think Real Madrid is a stronger side in this tie, however Messi was the man who gifted the win to a team that plays without a defense. Messi was the decisive factor in this match.

Other point: I still think Di Maria is a good sub, he plays great in the first half, but his stamina drops drastically in the 2nd half in all matches.

@The Thinker: You worry about what you want to focus on, I will worry about what I want to focus on. Madrid didn't make Barcelona lie about the Neymar purchase. And it wasn't a Madridista that sued to get that information out, it was a Barcelona socio. I will grant you that Madrid has their shady dealings as well, but they haven't been successfully sued and exposed for them.

If Messi is going to stay at a team that hasn't got the finances to build a decent team around him after Xavi and Iniesta hang it up, then it is cause for concern for ny albiceleste fan.

Messi breaks di stefano's record.. Cristina and bale is invisible today.. neymar's flashy tricks won't help him.. he needs to deliver poisonous crosses to messi in the middle.. Iniesta has been mesmerizing.. Pique has improved.. alves has degraded.. Masche is holding out tight..

Barcelona XI: Valdés, Alves, Piqué, Mascherano, Alba; Xavi, Busquets, Cesc, Neymar, Iniesta, Messi

Barça's bench: Pinto, Adriano, Bartra, Song, Sergi Roberto, Pedro, Alexis (Tello, Afellay, Montoya won't play)

This is my problem with Barcelona, their bench is way too weak, apart from Alexis, Adriano, and Pedro everyone else on the bench is pretty much average..

Chalz Sabella is already studying the opponents, that's why he was at the Bayern vs Arsenal UCL game..You cant wait until 20 - 30 days before the world cup to do all that..

Regardless of what happens argentina needs a coach that stays for over two years. We need a more long term coach like what el maestro is for Uruguay but sabella is even better than him!!!

As arglover pointed out Mussachio, Fazio could have been subs for Garay & FF...
.
Sabella should have created a backup for each player....
.
Sabella should take stock and take stick to create a better team during the 20 day camp before world cup.... Strategie s, formations, opponent study, penalty takes (build mental strength thru psyco etc.), study possible opponent penalty takers, imbibe mental strength, free kicks, corner kicks..... Etc
.
Hehehe... Wish i was his assistant would Keep reminding Him of each!!!!!!

Should Sabella our beloved coach use the same players (11) and the same subs (3) in all the group matches and knockout matches?? Or should he start with few player changes in each and every match as did Pekerman in 2006???.
.
This small rotation can bring in more fresh energy (legs), more commitment from the new player Who will be eager to seal his spot.
.
If the same players are going to start every game...They r sure to get tried by the 1st knockout match itself.
.
Im talking about just fe w changes.

I am a lifelong barca fan but today we are heading into the tie as underdogs.. there was a time, particularly in 2009-11 when no matter how bad barca played,, they always seemed to outclass madrid because barca's worst was well beyond madrid's best.. 3 years later,, scenario is very different,, barca don't play the intense possession futbol like the old days and it's defense is absolutely horrible..

the way the English media is portraying Bale as a success and Neymar as a failure is absolutely shameful and disgusting.. they failed to mention that it was Neymar who kicked the ass of madrid in the last clasico while Bale was taken off the pitch.. Yes,, Bale did improve his form but a team consisting of ronaldo, benzema, dimaria Bale surely gets a lot of supply lines.. whereas Martino's insane rotational policy has greatly diminished Neymar's confidence.. Not to mention,, it is neymar's first season in Europe,, he had to adapt very quickly which is not a case for Bale..

Madrid arrogance is at their peak.. it is time for Barcelona to give them another historic lesson like Cryuff did in 1974,, Maradona in 82, Romario in 94, Ronaldinho in 05 and Messi in 2011.. this time Messi-Neymar will make those Self-proclaimed English pundits will eat their own words.. Thus Catalunya will continue to Rebel against Madrid's Fascism till the end of time..

Viva Catalunya.. Viva Barcelona... Viva Messi..

Abiol is so average I don't know what Benitez see in him..Abiol is a poor defender, he was the main culprit for the Napoli red card...And Benitez not starting Fernandez was a mistake.I was looking forward to FF vs Gomez..

The way I see Real Madrid vs. Barca tonight is pretty much like Argentina vs. Spain. I mean tactically, quality wise, we're more similar to Madrid than Barca.

Madrid is deadly in counter attack. Madrid play fantastic four. Madrid has the same engine of the team as Argentina in Di Maria. Madrid has one scoring machine in CR7 just like Argentina in Messi. Argentina nowadays do not play that much of ball posessions unlike in Basile era. So I see the game more similar to Argentina vs. Spain.

If Romania is the first park the bus team we met since Sabella era, Sabella's team has yet to face ball possession team like Spain or Holland. So it will be a good match really.

I am not saying I want Madrid to win. I want Barca to win, but I am more interested tactically to see how a deadly counter attack team like Madrid facing the best ball possession team in the last 10 years, Barcelona.

Don't forget that Ancelotti has made Madrid to look better than ever this year. Even better than Mou's Madrid.

Lol rey why dimaria should stop his teammate for fouling messi? Infact they are professional players paid for club. This is elclassico, here messi and dimaria are no longer friends. Did you see messi trackling aguero harshly in man city vs barca. This match is pride and they are playing for it .in football everything can happen for example kevin prince boateng of ghana was against boateng of germany in 2010.this is club football and also di maria and messi are not friend.

Rey this is classico nobody thinks about who they play alongside with their country..Ramos shoving Puyol to the floor and pushing Xavi in the face is a few example of why these players don't care about NT during classico..Anyways the feud kind of cool down since Mou left the club..

I hope when the dirty RM defence purposely foul Messi, that Di Maria should say something to his team mates. So far the amount of physical and dangerous tackles that he has encountered against RM and di maria and when he was there Higuin said nothing!!

Barca did bad with lower teams due to Martino's rotation
policy. But look at Martino's record with big teams.Barcelona did well in all big games of this season. Martino's Paraguay also did well against big teams i.e Spain,Argentina,Brazil.Tata is a big game specialist.I believe that Barca will win today and Messi will flourish.

First off, Argentina doesn't need a Xavi and Iniesta to win the world cup..Its like saying ''Brazil need Xavi and Iniesta to win the world cup'' or ''Italy needed Zidane to win the world cup back in 2006.''

Saying Real will rip Barcelona apart is a brave statement, in fact I haven't seen Real run over Barcelona in the last several Clasiccos..By the way Barcelona have only lost 2 of their last 10 visit at the Bernabeu..

Once Barcelona control the possession Real Madrid is going to struggle as a unit..look at the away game vs Juventus where Real Madrid struggle because they were second best in possession against a quality team and if not for Iker Casillas, Juventus would have run away with that game..The same can be said about both league games vs Athletico Madrid..All am saying is that people need to calm down before writing off Barcelona, they will step up their game..Many people were writing off Barcelona (that includes me before the Aguero injury) when they got Man City in the UCL and look how easy Barcelona progress. With Messi on the field and he's now a fully fit Messi, you can never predict such a game as this one as so one sided..All It can take in this game are just 2 or 3 good moments from Messi walking pass Pepe and Ramos and the Bernabeu will become silent as a lamb in no time..

I believe Barcelona will win this game, they have beaten Real this season already, and I see no reason why they can't win at the Bernabeu..Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, and Alves will step up their game..With Real losing Jese they have lost their attacking threat coming off the bench...Bale will have a quiet game, so too Di Maria, and Ronaldo....

salvio and gaitan are very good options, they can play the role of xavi and inesta, that will decrease the pressure from messi, higuian and aguero.
messi, higuian, aguero,palacio, lavezzi,
bigila,gago,benega,salvio,gaitan,masch,maxi,maria
garay,ff,camp,zab,rojo,peuzzi,lis,
