SABELLA: "Looking for other possibilities"
Alejandro SABELLA spoke about the team.

Alejandro SABELLA commented about the team stating that he is looking for other possibilities on the team. Here's what he had to say:

"I'm looking for other possibilities, there's 3 months until the World Cup and things can happen, could be injuries... Gino (PERUZZI) has raised his level of play and it's good for Lisandro to be with this group because he hasn't been before."

Messi with Argentina have always come out on top against Brazil when Neymar and Marcelo are feature for their team..Marcelo goes back all the way to the 2008 Olympics..While most recently Messi have beaten Brazil twice when Neymar starts for his team..

@baker
I consider you a wise guy..cabella has been playing wonderful for 2 years and sabella has been our coach for more than 2 years.case closed

the thing is that just like no person is 100% perfect no coach is 100% faultless. If you ask me "did not sabella do any good to argentina ??" I will say of course he has done a lot of wonderful things for our beloved team . he has brought a lot of fluidity to our attack ,made perfect balance to midfield and attack, organized our defense
and finally given us hope that this time we could do better than the previous times."
But i would also say he is very very arrogant . and that's not a positive thing at all. he does not like to give chances to players that he thinks on paper wouldn't do any good to the team. To think this is mistake you don't need to be football expert... because every other big coaches in every other big national teams is still experimenting in their key position . Now for sabella may be he doesn't need to experiment for midfield and forward position but definitely he should try out left back and golie position.
and i don't buy the logic of rojo playing very good as a center back in sporting lisbon because he has proven himself a very mediocre left back for Argentina and that is another reason he is not playing as a left back in lisbon. Except orban we have not given any chance to any true left back like ansaladi , garcia. In case of golie I do believe in romero but i also believe that cabellero deserve chance at this time .

If sabella does not call any specific player who is doing very good for his club ...how can he be sure about him being a flop for argentina????

@ baker, We should have won.95 minute's valid goal was cancelled.BD player was fouled, but managed to send the ball to net.Referee called for foul.I don't know how a referee can forget advantage rule?Feeling extremely frustrated.

@Kidult: ut I wrote: "I've been watching Netherlands vs Colombia. Netherlands most of time that match played with 10 players (red card and without Robben, Van Persie, Van Der Vart (seconf half), De Jong, Snejider, Huntelaar and other) on the hole second squad and they were even a little better than Colombia. Colombia is strong on paper but I don't belive in that team. Quite another Chile but they group. A I saw: It is still more likely Spain will be Champion than they drop out in groups. Prevalence South American team will be not necessarily so that great because today the best teams have powerful ways acclimatization, accomodation. In the past European teams been coming to America at the last moment, astounded and unprepared. Although Colombia will have so much funs from country in Brazil. That could be force of his team.

romer interview

sergio Romero, with just four games in Monaco this season, takes over his inactivity but has every confidence for the friendly against Romania and the World .

Sergio Romero speaks with the confidence of one who trusts in his gloves. While the lack of continuity in Monaco Sampdoria and fed doubts and debates on media ownership in the team , Chiquito dreams of being the keeper of the tournament. It's just 99 days to reach your dream. And a handful of hours to defend his position against Romania.

- How much the lack of continuity suffers?

- If I have a clear head and I train as I do , I think I can answer even though I have not touch my club continuity . I'm eager , I'm not concerned about the lack of football because I know how I work , the way I take it . I am clear that an archer is as saves , adding games. I know that in Argentina many criticize but do not worry . I always thank them and my fellow coaches trust.

- You went to Italy to tackle ?

- No, not that I 've gone from Sampdoria for theme continuity, because in the Italian championship would play. But on other issues, I decided to go to Monaco . Came to an armed group of players a great human quality , but as they were the last weeks of the repo market I knew I would have to wait for my chance . Play the French Cup and I'm fine.

- But is it enough?

- Look , it is clear that in these two and a half months , I would have more continuity, have the opportunity to play on my computer so there are no doubts about how I am . But as I said , I train Monday to Saturday at a high level to be well physically and head . Never gave me nothing, and I want to continue with this effort.

- If you are creating uncertainty about losing the job for this?

'I'm looking forward . When one comes to the selection you want to play , but here are aware that you are intending to make , except one or two that they can not be discussed, the rest we can not sleep. Here, in the selection , comes to help the group , to pull ahead . In my post, the coach will provide confidence and peace of mind is important , but we included Mariano [ Andujar ] and Augustine [ Orion ] , we can not sleep and have to keep that tingle of wanting to be in all lists. It's a nice illusion that we have. Personally, I have the force is very large , I mean every time you ask me . Whatever is said outside , really does not affect me . The coaching staff and my teammates trust me and I notice ... Monday to Saturday have continuity, work to earn the position. And I will continue to fight to have continuity. Duck Fillol know you had words of praise . The duck had me in Racing and the team , and it gives me goosebumps someone like him praise me . I leave assured that those who criticize me because I do not shortcut in Monaco , not because I have done a lot of goals because of me in the selection. With Mariano 're friends and we were glad to do well on either . With Augustine the same, and the three want to bring in the best way the bow selection .

And then ...

'Then I have to work to thank that trust. With that mentality I face what is coming.

He attacked a defensive manner and suffer ...

- Much has been said about the potential difference between the attack on offense and Argentina have players who are on another level : Messi , the best in the world, and who better go with it, we will always be exposed . We will accommodate for Argentina not suffer so much back and pull their attacking football. We got 10 points World . Hopefully we can be world champions in Brazil.
Please

Tim Vickery: Can Argentina take advantage of the luck of the draw?

Brazilian football insiders describe afternoon kickoffs in the northeast of the country, particularly 1 p.m. starts, as inhumane. The intense heat will be difficult to play in and will have a draining effect on the players as the competition wears on.

There is no need, though, for Argentina to worry about this. They have been lucky with the draw three times over. Group opponents Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria do not look especially threatening, and neither do the likely second round rivals.

Plus, all of Argentina’s games are relatively close to home, allowing its fans to pour across the border; and whether they finish first or second in the group, they will go through the entire competition without once having to deal with extreme heat (none of their games will take them higher up the country than Brasilia).

Argentina’s past two World Cup campaigns have been brought to an end by Germany. Should they meet again this time, Lionel Messi and company can feel confident of revenge.

In their group matches, the Germans will get no respite from the fierce sun. Argentina will certainly be fresher, and the luck of the draw, together with their attacking genius, make them a good bet to reach the final.

Argentina legend Diego Maradona said he was “delighted” Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or as he believes it will inspire Lionel Messi to success at this summer’s World Cup.

However, Maradona feels the disappointment of missing out will ensure Messi -- who has returned to top form after 59 days out with a hamstring injury he sustained in November -- has all the motivation he needs to inspire his country in Brazil.

“Thanks to his age and the experience gained in these years, this is the World Cup which is best for [Messi],” Maradona, who coached Argentina at the 2010 finals, told La Nacion. “Even the time out with injury was good for him. I was also delighted when they gave Cristiano the Ballon d’Or. He who adjusts himself best will win, and Leo has already adjusted.”

Its funny how Belgium fanboys on the web were making fun of Colombia goal keeper before there game in Brussels, saying ''Colombia goalkeeper was too old''Yet Colombia win in their back yard, same too for Japan..Belgium is way too overrated, this doesn't mean they don't have some talented players, they will need more than talent at the world cup..

Will Januzaj get a chance for Belgium ? Hazard and Januzaj can be dangerous on wings.

Belgium's main strength is their defence. Company, Varmaelen will be great wall to break for the oppositions.

I still don't get why people keep on saying on here that Argentina defense is ''weak or it's the weak link on our team,''well I don't see it that way..Our attacking options are so good that it overshadow our defense, hence people look at it as our weak link..If we didn't have such a potent and fierce attack, many would not be saying our defense is weak...This whole defense is weak thing started since the 2010 debacle under Maradona, and many seems not to get over it..Argentina have always had great defenders throughout its history and today's crop is no different..The weakest link on our team, maybe our goalkeeper, but Romero is experience enough.....

Sabella record against European team is excellent, so I don't see the fair about these so call European teams in Brazil..Belgium is a good team, but they're way too green, yes they have some players that are prominent in the BPL, but that doesn't mean it will make them some what formidable at this year world cup..Russia and South Korea can easily progress out of group H ahead of Belgium..South Korea has more world cup experience and was a semifinalist back in 2002,so It wont be surprise if they make it out of Group H..Russia for me is a better all round team than Belgium, they might not have the names playing in the overrated BPL but of course playing in the BPL doesn't guarantee you a successful world cup..Look at the England team back in 2006, they couldn't even defeat Trinidad and Tobago yet they had players like; Beckham, Gerrad, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Crouch, Heskey. All these guys were playing in the BPL except for Beckham who was playing for Real Madrid, I think. I will take players from Serie A and La Liga over the BPL any day..

All I'm saying too much hype over these European teams and unfairly less hype for the South American teams. In South Africa 2010, all South American teams made it to the quarterfinal, except for Chile who was beaten by Brazil in the round of 16, Uruguay was the lone SM team that made the Semis..As I keep on saying South America team will dominate come this summer, and will most likely produce 2 - 3 semifinalist team..

@ Messi genius both are very good keepers it will probably go on whoever is finer form.

Belgium is very strong but they are lack luster...they don't really have an identity a style yet. Benteke is vastly overrated absolutely no technique on the ball, Lukaku give's them a lot of energy up top and makes plenty of runs for them, with the likes of Hazard Mertens and de bruyne feeding him they can be dangerous. But, i don't think their coach is very good IMO

CB. Varmaelen (Arsenal)
CM. Dembele (Spurs)

Something i keep seeing on this forum is how much of a playmaker/midfielder Messi is for us. This is true and with the talent we have that is where he can excel, but with Messi not having played for Argentina in what seems forever and not scoring as much in Barca because of Martino's system..well I'm hoping for Messi to just go off tomorrow and at the world cup :)

I don't see how people think Garay is slow you really think Benfica survives with him and Lusiao with guys like Kelvin running around. Also FF is a monster in the air which will help against European teams also I can see him totally mark out Costa,Falcao,Benteke, Klose, Fred or any top striker out there. Also have you guys forgotten Mascherano is a MONSTER. we need rojo and zabaleta pushing up sometimes I don't see how this is wrong.

As for our defense, I think people greatly underrate our players here.

1) Zabaleta is a world class right back.
2) Garay is a very low key player but he is also very well rounded. Seldom makes mistakes, excellent positioning, VERY tall, cool headed. He is as good as any other center back as far as I care. The difference between him and those world class above him are not that huge of a gap. Currently starting for a competitive team in a decent leauge and always on the transfer rumor to bigger teams. Nothing to be ashamed about.
3) Fernandez, much like Garay.. a little more electric which translates into great performances for the NT. Lots of heart. Still a bit green, but has plenty of experience cancelling out top players (Falcao, etc) and is currently starting for one of the top 3 teams in Italy which is the land of defenders. He has world class heading ability in set pieces. Excellent chemistry with Garay, this cannot be emphasized enough, clap clap to Sabella for making this happen.
4) Rojo.. ok ok.. he is one of our weaker links, BUT, every team has that and to be fair to Rojo he is a very good athlete.. a bit of a young stud needing refinement, but on paper he is very good with his feet/passing/crossing for a defender, he is tall, he is fast, he has endless energy and when he stays in the defensive half is not a bad defender. His forward runs are the only real flaw in his game and thats Sabellas responsibility to correct. If Rojo is our worst player we should consider ourselves blessed.. there are many worst alternatives out there.
5) Campagnero is a top flight defender, so is Basanta, so is Otamendi, etc. We even have veterans like Samuel that could easily be starting on other NT despite his mature years, as long as he can walk Samuel will always be a good defender.
6) Mascherano is THE BEST cover for a 4 man defense in the world.. and Gago/Biglia aint too shaby either.

Our defense IS FINE!

My pretend Fifa2015 ratings:
Defense: 85
Midfield: 90
Offense: 99

Bring them on!

outlaw but you do realize that Colombia had beaten Belgium in their own back yard the game before, and tied with Holland, that's not a bad result against one of the world cup favorites and a world cup so call ''dark horse''..Japan outplayed Holland before the Colombia game....If this game was in Bogota Colombia would have blown away Holland...You guys keep fooling yourself, on here, like European teams are going to some how dominate in Brazil, keep dreaming for that to happen..The only team I don't see going past the round of 16 is Ecuador..Chile, Colombia,Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil are all heading to quarter final and semis..Don't be surprise if they're 3 South American teams in the semis of this year world cup..History show us that South American teams always perform great on the continent, and I don't see it changing..The history and pride of the continent will be too much for the European teams to handle...

Colombia even with Falcao has no chance with Brazil in Brazil. I've been watching Netherlands vs Colombia. Netherlands most of time that match played with 10 players and on the hole second squad and they were even a little better than Colombia. I think Chile may even win tomorrow but Germany teams in World Cup could be much better than tomorrow. If Chile has a chance on World Cup groups it is against Netherlands only. Not Spain. IMO. I'm sure that Sergio Ramos will be fit when the time is right. He's currently unconcentrate but when he's in form he could be great defender.

All of the South American teams look poised to have a great showing at this World Cup, as it should be. Chile and Colombia have been playing a nice brand of football and they will be a force to be reckoned with. Uruguay play a lack luster but effective style that gets wins and I believe they'll do plenty of that in this World Cup.

With or without Falcao, I think Colombia will be dangerous. If all they had was Radamel (like Sweden with Ibra) then I would agree that without him, they will have a tough go. But they have a nice solid team that can create chances for any one of their other forwards (Jackson Martinez, Teo Gutierrez-leading goal scorer on this squad without Falcao) regardless of what team they play for. Colombia still have very high chances of advancing in my opinion.

Chile has been playing great football and I see them making life very hard for Spain and Holland. They had a tough draw like Uruguay, but barring any key injuries (Vidal/Alexis) they will have a good showing regardless if they advance or not. I see them coming out over Holland, maybe over Spain if they play their cards right.

Uruguay were drawn with Italy, England and Costa Rica. While most other teams wouldn't have a chance, I think this Uruguayan team seriously believes they can beat BOTH England and Italy. I think they can too. And why not? The tournament is in a neighboring country, on their continent and you can bet plenty of supporters will be in attendance, that is if the WC committee didn't make available many tickets for them like they did to Argentina. But, honestly, it depends on which team shows up. They can be a solid defensive team and with the quality they have on attack, all they need is one or two counters and there is your game. Now I don't think they can win it all, but they can definitely get to the quarters or semis even.

Watch out Europe. You're on South American soil this year. Let's see how well you guys travel for a change.

@Deb I'm sticking with Chile and the Netherlands to go through in group B..Pique, Ramos, Abiol and Arbeola are all a disaster waiting to happen in Brazil..

I don't think Spain will flop, but if we were to meet them in the semi's or quarters...our fab 4 would rip Ramos/pique to shreds

Spain do not need a miracle to go to the semis. They are well equipped for that.

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Valdes, Raina

Defenders: Albiol, Ramos, Alba, Pique, Arbeloa, Juanfran.

Midfield: Xavi, Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Busquets, David Silva, Jesus Navas, Isco

Forwards: Diego Costa, Pedro, Negredo, Llorento

This is easily one of the top 3 teams in the world on papers. It would be foolish to say they would FLOP even before the tournament starts.

I will be rooting for Chile, I hope they come in first in their group. It will make things interesting if Spain comes in second in their group. We will see in a couple of months, can't wait. Spain in my opinion, hopefully I'm wrong, will step their game up and we will see them in the semis.

Vamos Argentina!

To tell you the truth, I don't see a lot of teams going into this world cup with a great defensive unit, organization will be the key to our defense, not how great an individual player is..For me, the team with the best defense going into the world is Greece, and we all know Greece wont win the world cup in Brazil.

ive said it before our defence will not win us this world cup it will be the offence.

think of the yellow teams of the 50s/60s and their mantra was to score more then they conceded-it worked and it will for us.

el principe Colombia with Falcao can beat Brazil, but without Falcao, I don't see it happening if they do meet..And remember Uruguay can meet Brazil before the final, don't count out Uruguay, just look at the last confed cup..Uruguay miss a penalty in that game that would have gave them the lead..

el principe I'm not underestimating Germany..But a lot of people are underestimating Chile..Chile will be a top team in this year world cup..Chile went to London and schooled England in their own back yard without Vidal and other key players..Chile was also beating Spain, while dominating possession at the same time until Spain came back and tie the game in extra time with a Chile own goal..Chile tied with Brazil in Brazil..Chile was unfortunate to lose to Brazil in Canada because they were also missing Vidal and some other key players on their squad..All I'm saying is that Chile is the real deal, and is to be taken seriously..You're forgetting that an U23 Paraguayan team almost defeat a full strength Germany team last year..Germany conceded 3 goals in one half, and they barely tie the game in injury time, for a home team to struggle like this against a team that have been struggling in the South American qualifiers, would call for concern, if you ask me..I respect the German team, but Germany is often a bit overrated these days..Some people on the web talk as if Germany been dominating football for the past 10 years..

Don't underestimate Germany Kidult. They are stronger than ever coming to the World Cup. They have beaten the likes of Sweden, England, Ecuador, and France in the last 1 year away from home. And they seem to have just not serious doing that as they kept experimenting with different players.

I am not a German fan at all, but they and Spain are the only 2 teams in my opinion that can ruin Brazil chance to go to the final. I don't see any other teams are capable of doing that.

Argentine defense is definitely not great but not bad either. Best part of Argentine defense

- They are playing together for quite a long time unlike WC 2010 and Copa 2011
- They are averge but never giveup.
- They are slow but they are tall and good in air.
- Most important they know their limitations.

Although Garay-FF doing quite well yet I would have prefered to have Gonzalo, Musacchio, Fazio in the team at least as a backup. But LB position is a huge concern as Rojo as first choice.

Argentine defense is not world beaters but they are in better shape than previous years.

But history says best attacking lineup rarely won a World Cup but a team with great defense can won World Cup.

Score less but mist need to concede less in order to win World Cup...

- Argentina conceded 4 goals in 1986
- Germany conceded 4 goals in 1990
- Brazil conceded 3 goals in 1994
- France conceded 3 goals in 1998
- Brazil conceded 4 goals in 2002
- Italy conceded 2 goals in 2006
- Spain conceded 2 goals in 2010

In last 24 years only Argentina and Germany won World Cup after conceding 4 goals, that's where my concern is.
We may be score tons of goals but we have to concede less in order to win the World Cup. Hope all our mediocre defenders will become legends after World Cup 2014.
