He mustn't start every match because against best teams in Mundial Argentina for sure will be playing with 5 defenders (like against Bosnia) or 4 midfield-man. Then Higuain benching because Aguero is simply much better.

Gonzalo Higuain must start every match possible like L. Messi J Mascherano, F. Gago. These are must starters in their own lane. No substitutions if possible.

@leandro. I was talking about jose tactics not about higuain man.actually i hate jose but i want our argentine manager to be like him( mentally). I know higuain is a big match player................................ I want nt players from big clubs not from clubs like catania, celtavigo, getafe because which teams are loosing week and week out..these players are mentally disturbed.

Only an Argentine can argue about which of those two is better lol. We have them both! Lets use them. Since Messi is really a midfielder for Argentina we have no need to pick or choose.

-----------Kun----------Pipita-------
---------Dimaria---------Messi-------
----------Masch-----------Gago-------
Rojo------Garay----------Fern------Zaba

If anyone would get the drop it would be DiMaria for Maxi or Biglia which would give us more muscle defending.

And if we are going to have a single striker up top.. its Higuain hands down. I feel Aguero plays best off a tall striker.

Aguero's accuracy improved a lot over the last season. He needs to implicate those wicked powerful shots that he take for city into the NT . We need that.

Higuain doesn't shoot like that, messi doesn't try that so often. and since tevez is out of the equation its all on the el kun's shoulder.

Say something all of you guys againt romania. including the bench players. Cause we are not giving up on you.

@Sudhirfadi, Higuain was scoring more consistently than ANYONE IN EUROPE (forget the actual stat) while at Madrid. His shots to goal ratio was better than Messi. And he was doing this comming off the bench and never in the same position, that is pure class for a striker, whom usually need to find a rythm and confidence to deliver like that.

Higuain was scoring more than Ronaldo a few seasons back. Madrid NEVER showed respect to him (and countless other players that passed though that capitalist meat grinder). Higuain refused to be ignored surviving Ronaldos ego, the unnecessary purchase of hyped up Benzema, etc. All the while he NEVER lost face and was the upmost professional. Also remember he had back surgery recently and STILL was performing. The guy is a true model of professionalism.

As good as Aguero is, they are not comparable. Higuain height and constant off the ball runs offer our attack a complete other dimension of play. Higuain makes everyone around him better.. just look at his stats at Napoli this year.

After Messi, Di Maria is our fastest player on the field. I never forget his contribution against Bolivia match. His on & off the ball run from defence to offence was incredible !! He was the quickest player on that match. BTW, I am a little bit concern for him. I think there could be a big possibility to foul him roughly by the oppositions in world cup ! If he gets injured in any knockout round match than Argentina's counter attack could be get slower to slowest ! Sabella needs to think about it from now !! Otherwise............ :(

Although we normally regard Messi, Mascherano, Gago as the three most important players for NT, I think Di Maria should be credited a position in our first three choices.

This man does excellent dribbling, great provider, helps the defence, can play at different positions, amazing work rate. And all these he does literally by his left foot. This is a great video (probably Kidulthood had posted it here before, but I could not resist posting it again)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAmnHqNrwm0

Most of the comments in this video are about how "underrated" he is in the club level. But I would say, he is equally underrated in the national team too.

@ julker9. Its a rumour in goal.com. I didnt mean higuain dont have a talent. He is tremendously talented solo striker. I mean about jose tactics . He utilise and rotate players .he gave a lot of chances to higuain , if higuain couldnt deliver what the heil he can do..di maria also told that jose made him a player so as cambiasso, samuel and zenneti also being saying.

Another good thing about the timing of the world cup is that most of our players are reaching there peak, all our best players will be around 26-27 and for those who keep doubting fernandez, from what I've seen of fernandez in our national team is he always performs and a big portion of the time he's our best defender

The most important thing for us as fans is to support our team to the fullest and believe, even though we have a few problems in our team, this is the best Argentina team I've seen since 2006 but the difference is this Argentina is a great counter attacking team with better strike force and quicker play than the 06 team. The team we had in 2006 was a little too predictable, we only were able to play the beautiful possession game, but now we mix it up more which makes us less predictable and the team is willing to play dirty. For too many years we've been cursed in world cups when playing a possession game. Many of us here are doubting romero but romero can come up with the goods, he saved 2 penalties out of 2 in the qualifiers, made great saves in the qualifiers and the copa america. he is currently having his worst year but you never know when a player steps up just look at julio caesar, for brazil he's been great but for club level he's shit. Though Willy is a better option Romero can still have a great world cup. Another good thing about having romero being our goalkeeper for the world cup is he'll feel like he has something to prove and will do whatever possible to prove his worth during the world cup which could get the best out of romero and I think all of you guys underrate our defense. when comparing statistics of goals conceded to other teams you guys ignore the fact that we've played much tougher opposition in the past year than most top teams and I believe germany and spain have weaker defenses than us, both teams when they played good attaking teams conceded a lot of goals and though Brazils defense is great, other the confeds cup they really haven't played any strong teams in past year, they played friendlies against weak teams while we were playing are difficult qualifiers. Argentina will have one of the best defenses by the time the world cup starts, mark my word. Sabella is one of the best coaches for creating a strong defensive unit, just look at estudiantes. I believe he'll find a way to create balance in our team without sacrificing any of our fab4 and no matter what players sabella selects Argentina will always have a chance of winning with Sabella as a coach. Another great thing about Sabella is he'll never under estimate a team, he always studies his opponents and makes his team play to the weaknesses of the opponent

we dont have to drop any of fav4... dimaria's defensive abilities has improved immensely and messi can track back and play as a num10 which leaves us with two strikers up front... higuain as no9 and aguero as a second/supporting striker ... with all four on the field our defense wont have to deal with too much pressure..and romero will feel like he is in Monaco :P

I see wht ur sayin that if we go too defensive thn it will hurt us goin forward but wht i think we should do against stronger opposition is use one more midfielder in place of Aguero/higuain. May be someone like banega or alvarez to crowd the midfield.

Against teams like iran or even nigeria we should go with our regular lineup with fab4 and masche and gago. No disrespect to iran or nigeria though.

@Kid and Johnny,

Reality is Basanta will never face Neymar :D:D He will be either leftback,or left CB of 3 man defense.Neymar is a left-winger.

Anyway Peruzzi dominated Neymar for most of the time they faced each other. And he is playing regularly for Catania.Initially had some ups and downs, but now performing regularly...He has played 10 Serie A matches and made 36 tackles,36 clearances,30 interceptions...This is really really impressive!

He was man of the match in his latest match with a goal and 6 tackles and Catania won by 3-1 against Lazio.

Brazil main weakness now is one: over confidence. In 2006, they were the tournament favorite, the defending champion. They had pretty much the same fantastic four that brought them the WC trophy in 2002. They had the amazing Ronaldo, Adriano, Ronaldinho, and Kaka. Plus Robinho (fantastic four + 1). They had the world best full backs in Cafu and Roberto Carlos and one of the best defenders in Lucio. They had amazing midfielders and a great coach and a great goalie. Everyone would think that they would repeat. It is hard to think of any way to beat this team, but they lost to France.

In 2010 was the same. They looked as fantastic as ever, only to have Holland kicked their butt.

This 2014 with the big mouth Scolari, I hope it is the same. Their over confidence is their number 1 enemy. On paper, they are one of the best in the world, but believe me Brazil in 2006 were waaaaay scarier. They had almost the best players in the world in every position back then. Even Brazil in 2010 looked quite scarry...definitely better than their squad this year. Otherwise, they wouldn't have won the Confed cup of 2009.

This year, it is good that they won that Confed cup again of 2013. That makes their weakness is even more exposed: their confidence.

Scolari never stop talking, he reminds me a lot like Mouthino, coach of Chelsea FC..

Scolari:

Scolari says everything is going Brazil's way heading into the tournament and there is no reason not to think that the hosts can be successful.

Scolari says his team is ready and believes that playing at home with the support of its fanatical fans will be Brazil's biggest weapon during the World Cup that starts in June.

"We are playing at home, we have the fans on our side and a team which is competitive and has a lot of quality," Scolari said. "We have everything that allows us to be the best team. That's why I fully trust that we can make it to the final and be the champion."

Ok Neymar, Fred, Paulinho, Fabiano, Lucas,Bernard, etc all played in the last Super Classico game which Argentina won 2 - 1 with only our local players while Brazil feature some guys that are now permanent players in there current squad..Never said Neymar wouldn't get the best of Basanta at no time in a game, but what I did said, was that Basanta can dominate Neymar for majority of a game, and this has nothing to do with Argentina vs Brazil on going arguments.Just my opinion friend.. Neymar dominating Basanta what was that? Apart from mascherano i doubt any argentine player can hold up their bargain against neymar in 1on1 .

There has been enough talks about romero in mundo already. Im tired of this but still cant help but get frustrated when i see someone trying to hype romero over here.

Casillas dropping doesnt affect anything and romero gets dropped suddenly argentina's team chemistry falls apart?

Yeah right :S im tired of this. If you guys hype his decent saves against chile or whatever team he did against over his regular blunders in ever 3-4 games. Then have it your way. Im not gonna argue anymore.

Aguante Argentina.

I've been in a shitty mood lately and it looks like it ain't gonna stop. I am not a fan of Brazil but some of the posters here are delusional about some of Brazil's players. Kid-Basanta "dominating Neymar". Please. I'm not saying Basanta is a poor player though I'm not a big fan, but "dominating" Neymar ? Neymar is one of the quickest players in football today with amazing dribbling skills and a lightening quick first step.

It won't be shameful if Neymar uses any defender in the world, maybe not consistently, but its bound to happen. My opinion about Neymar doesn't make me a Brazil fan. All you have to do is watch football, and since I know you watch football I am surprised you can make a statement about Neymar being dominated by Basanta.

Pastore4wc 4-3-3 is what Ancelotti is using right now for Real Madrid..Ancelotti said is biggest mistake he made vs Barcelona was to play Ramos in midfield..If Sabella believe he can win the world cup with a 4-3-3 system then he should go for it..I don't like the idea of experimenting formation during the world cup...With reinforcement in midfield, the 4-3-3 formation would not be a problem going forward in the tournament for us. If Sabella try to be too defensive at the world cup, I think it will affect our ability going forward..

Mascherano and Basanta are two of Argentina toughest players on the squad..These guys are South American as they come..I always like Basanta..Basanta is a guy I can see dominating Neymar for the majority of a game..

No matter what, people will always criticize Sabella picks..Some people wanting Sabella to change his entire back line a few months before the world cup, talk about insane tactics..Whatever Sabella was doing he should keep on doing it, as long as Messi and co continue to score goals like crazy, and if that include keeping Romero in goal, then so be it..If it wasn't for Romero crucial saves during the world cup qualifiers, Argentina would have never top the SM group stage; just go back and look at the away game to Chile, I remember in that Chile game where Argentina was under constant pressure for the first 25 minutes, and it was Romero who had to come up with some crucial saves to keep Argentina in the game during that horrifying period for us, Argentina only started to dominate the game after Messi goal from a Gago assist; The away game to Colombia, where Romero made some crucial saves in the first half stopping Colombia from extending there lead to 2 - 0 going into halftime; Romero saves us away in Peru, hint hint that penalty save he pull off because of a clumsy Di Maria tackle ;Romero also saved us away to Bolivia, making countless of saves to keep the score at only 1 goal for Bolivia that gave us a chance to equalize through a Banega header; Romero saved us also in the away game vs Ecuador, making countless of saves during the game.

Sabella have made this team working again, and if you look back at the first 2 - 3 rounds of the 2014 WCQ, it seems like nothing had change since the Batista era coming out of the Copa tournament, it was the same story leading into the 2014 WCQ,(lack of Goals) apart from the first game vs Chile at home, Argentina then go on to struggle for goals in the other games..Never lost to Venezuela in our history and all of a sudden that changes..We struggled to defeat Bolivia during the 2011 Copa, and it was the same thing at home for the 2014 WCQ game vs Bolivia..Sabella look at all this and incorporate his own vision on the team,(and that was getting out some of the old guards and putting in fresh faces on the team)since then we have never look back, 23 games unbeaten until that unimportant game vs Uruguay away which we lost, but only with the help of the Brazilian refs..Apart from the normal stars on our team, players that will have a big tournament for me, are; Romero, Biglia, Basanta, Rojo Fernandez.

I hope we don't have any South American or English refs doing our games at the world cup..Italy, Swedish and Spanish refs will be fine with me..

Guiñazu is quite another type of beast who is not only above 30 years old but can outrun and bully opposition way better than most of our midfielders. The intimidation factor is real when Guiñazu steps into the pitch and I’m all for him going into the world cup if necessary. Heck Yea. I’d get rid of Sosa or Lamela spot for Guiñazu.

I was wondering is sabella would change our formation against tougher opponents like maybe belgium in qf. I dont think we should play 4-3-3 against those opponents. The big dilemma is who would u take out Aguero or Higuian? Well as lethal Aguero is in the box while playing for city and has great understanding with messi, higuain has height advantage. Not that higuain doesnt have understanding with messi.

I would play 4-2-3-1 for sure with masche and gago and dimaria, messi and maxi plus Aguero/Higuain.

My Best XI (based on Sabella's player selection obviously):

Romero
Zabaleta-Garay-Fernandez-Basanta
Mascherano-Biglia
Gago-Di Maria
Messi
Higuain

4-2-2-1-1

Substitutes:

A. If we are leading:

Campagnaro in central defense (based on who between Garay and Fernandez needs to be replaced), Banega / Maxi in place of Gago (based on who between Banega and Maxi looks good in training then) and Lavezzi in place of Di Maria.

B. If we need to score:

Rojo in place of Basanta in LB, Banega / Maxi in place of Biglia, make it 4-3-2-1 and make Aguero the striker replacing Higuain. Messi and Di Maria to continue.

We need to keep Romero in our teams now, as Sabella doesn't seem to look beyond him.
With Lavezzi on the field, the opposition, even when down, would not dare to go all out as that can expose them to real deadly counters.
My first choice striker to couple with Messi would be Higuain, and not Aguero. While Aguero is ahead in class and form both, Higuain bonds with Messi better without doubt. That was evident in the qualifiers. Besides, Aguero is lethal even as substitute, whereas Higuain is better off when he starts.

Considering the team sprit he ignited, his awesome Fab 4 and decent defence line up construction yet without forgetting to mention how he understands Messi I could care less about Sabella's weird selection of the subs but
no way about the goalie. Why is it so hard to call Willy while coaches find it easy to sacrify Casias,Captain of one of the best clubs in the world right now and probably the best GK for the last decade, for Lopez? No chemistry has been broken since Casias is droped to bench.Willy willl only bring stablity to the center backs. I even sometime consider him as the reason behind the re born of Demichles. Imagine hoe FF's confiedense would be boosted if he knows who will order the back line especially for penality box dangers.
the issue could have been worst had the FAB 4 been other NT's forwards and in fact it is the only blessing that will reduce the pain of not choosing the best Goalie also can make some mundo funs optimist about the omission!
VIVA Messi you will rule 2014 WC alos you will show them(Brazilian) the definition of Legend and shut their mouth up!

Sabella still talking about Veron? That's unacceptable and i can't help but bashing him for this.

Argentina will never get an easier route in the wc than this time. If its not now its never for us.

I appreciate what sabella has done. He let us forget the nightmare of maraTista even for a bit at least.

But its time to take it up a notch. How can you even think about veron at this time and speak at the conference about him.

Sabella - 'VERON IS A PLAYER WHOM I ALWAYS FOLLOW ALTHOUGH PRESENTLY IT IS NOT COMPLETELY QUITE PHYSICALLY. BUT THERE IS STILL TIME.''

Still time for what? i don't want to mouth off now. we all are gentleman here. We don't have time for veron riquelme guinazu bullshit anymore.

Whenever i close my eyes i see romero messing it up from the corner or long ball (HULK GOAL AGAINST US IN USA) OR THE GOAL WE CONCEDED AGAINST PARAGUAY. Romero did us a good service but his slip ups are regular. and I CAN GUARANTEE IN 7 MATCHES AT WC ROMERO WOULD MAKE AT LEAST 3-4 BLUNDERS LIKE THAT.

I DONT CARE ABOUT WILLY. FOR GODS SAKE PLEASE START MARIANO. HE DID SUPERB AGAINST ITALIA. Sabella lost a bit of my respect there by saying that veron still has time not that it matters.

i really don't rate campagnaro. I know sabella likes him as he can play rb/cb/lb, but his quality should be looked at than his versatility. After the WC he will likely not feature in COPA. Peruzzi and lopez have chance for copa so this is a good experience for them.

People don't get how tremendous jod done Sabella in WCQ. It wasn't easy as they think to change whole deffence and give some young blood in heart of deffence and being top. People bashing FF & Gago?? I am sure they were watching Arge playing last time in Dineasor era. If it is not Sabella than we wouldn't be able to see Garay, FF, Lisandro, Gino those young star in our deffence. They asking for Musachio & Fazio. They lucky bcoz for Sabella they can ask for them otherwise we would still play with Heinz, Milito, Burdisso & Demichelis despite I respect the old gun. It's a fabulous list by Sabella. Yeah would been great if Willy there but still it's balanced team and he is still working...
Like someone said earlier DISAGREE but RESPECT. IT'S ARGENTINA

Half of the posts here are about bashing Sabella or predicting how awful our world cup is going to be.

Even I am not happy with Romero in present form. I also wished to see the likes of Musacchio and Ansaldi more in the NT. But end of the day, the team a coach picks is the one that's going to fight it out. Why can't we shut up and stand for them!!

We all waited for Caballero, Gonzalo, Yacob and all till 2 days back. But now that we have realized Sabella isn't bothered about them, I think it's time we stop complaining. His choices are clear by now. We should accept that and move on.

Happy with the list..I have no problem with Romero or Rojo. The latter has improved for club and NT. Slight concern is match fitness for both Romero and Fernandez.
2ndly I wouldn't mind if we go into this world cup playing 3-4-2-1. If aguero regains his sharpness back. Then maybe we could sacrifice higuain. Don't get me wrong he's brilliant. But maybe to take more control on midfield. Have fullbacks push forward. And look to replace them at intervals. It worked against Bosnia. We had stability and looked far more comfortable than the opposition. Just a thought.

I think Peruzzi is selected as a backup for Campagnaro..and Lisandro Lopez as a backup for Basanta.

Otamendi is safe.......and will be deployed in 3 man CB if needed. Playing in Brazil until June will help him for sure.

1.Zabaleta,2.Fede,3.Garay,4.Rojo,5.Otamendi,

6.Campagnaro/Peruzzi, 7.Basanta/Lisandro.

I don't expect any new names in the WC than this list...The WC 23 list will be selected from this list(22 + local players).

Only player he has a chance from outside the list is Lamela. Yes he is a good player....but chance of including him is decreasing at the moment...

Even though many of us wanted Willy as our GK and thinks he is better than Romero...don't count Romero as Sh!t, Romero has done a great job for NT.

And don't forget, Romero won "Under 20 World cup" and "Olympic Gold" for Argentina...

Except for the goalkeeper pretty much the selection most of us expected. Except for injuries the only way to get Willy in the team is to lose against Romania due to huge errors made by Romero. So as I lifelong fan I hope Romania beats us 5-4.

Sabella needs a major wake up call.

Personally I think the best starting lineup would be:

(3421)Romero/Garay Fernandez Basanta/Zabaleta Mascherano Gago Rojo/Dimaria Messi/Higuain

I don't think we could use 433 to against strong teams like Spain, Germany, Brazil..

@el principe: Lamela's chance is fading day by day. I don't see any chance that he will be going, unless

if he recovers from injury and then
if he gets a lot of playing time and then
if he gets into good form

There is a lot of ifs here.

I don't know much about Gino Peruzzi. I know he plays as a right back. But can he also play as a left back? If so, that would solve our left back issue.

Basanta is a hard player just as @Baker said. He is tall too. But he has very little attacking ability. Last time I saw him playing as a left back, he had no clue how to run with a ball through the left side. He looked clearly uncomfortable and was constantly giving a message that he was being played out of his usual position.

When you count the players. 22 players are there. Then add the sure list: Orion, Gago, Banega, Maxi, and Lamela. It will make it 27. Add Nico and Esteban Cambiasso as both have been rumoured for a call up.

Link: http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=1991049

So it's 29. There you will have 29/30 players for the list.

Remember before the World Cup any World Cup coach must have a 30 players in a squad before cutting it down to 23 a week-10 days after.

I do not think the 30th man will be a high profile name like Caballero or Tevez or Pastore or Gonzalo/Mussacchio. The 30th man should be someone like Somoza or Mercier or Icardi or something like that.

Accept that. That is our team...

The 7 unlucky ones I hope will be:
1. SOSA
2 & 3. Cambiasso brothers
4. Licha Lopez
5. Peruzzi
6. Augusto
7. and the 30th man whoever that is.

i think sabella locked with these players

GK:
Orion, Romero, Andujar

Defenders:
zaba,garay,FF,rojo,basanta,hugo,ottamendi + peruzzi or lisandro

i think he will go for 8 defenders
Mid
masch,gago,banega,biglia,dimaria,maxi [ either sosa/ricky/lamela]

FW
i think he finalised his 5 forwards
messi,higuain,aguero,lavezzi and palacio

So Rojo and Basanta in LB, Zabaleta and Campagnaro in RB. Garay and Fernandez in CB. 6 midfielders confirmed. And this doesn't look all that bad.

I think the only thing missing from our central defense is experience. Coloccini would have been great, but he couldn't keep up to the mark I suppose. Otamendi has experience, that's why Sabella is testing him out.

I salute the inclusion of Lisandro Lopez and Gino Peruzzi.

And I bite my tongue on keeping Basanta in the squad. It seems like his Sabella's option for the LB spot.

How would injured players get called! Aguero and Alvarez shouldn't get called and different names should be tested. Unless they're 100% fit!

man, some of these "fans" in here are really naive abt our squad. sounds like they have never heard the term "team". That is the whole point sabella is trying to make for the last 3 or so years. Of course tevez, pastore, musacchio, cabalero, gonzalo are awesome awesome players, infact u can probably tell by my name, pastoer is my fav player of course behind messi but the reason sabella has selected players like augusto, lisandro, basanta is because he doesnt want those players who all want to start or want a lot of minutes and are not willing to sacrifice for the "team". We already have a stellar starting 11 and only need others to help the starting 11 when they are tired and have a good chemistry in training, have a good team bonding, be great in the locker room.

Players like caballero, musachio, pastore, gonzalo, orban, fazio, cambiasso, tevez, icardi are all superstars, most of whom i follow every week in their respective leagues and some of them great prospects for future but THEY HAVE NOT PLAYED TOGETHER WITH OUR STARTING 11 EVER OR FOR A VERY LONG TIME SO IT WOULD BE DISASTROUS TO INCLUDE THEM AT THIS LAST MOMENT.

Most of us who have followed sabella's list of players throughout the qualifiers and in the last 3 yrs totally understand sabella's list of players, others probably never will and sooner you guys get it better for you. If you still cant I really doubt your fanaticism.

each coach has his own tactics and preferences
ancelloti sold ozil , mourinjo sold mata , we all know they both are classy players but they are not fitting in to the system of their coaches.

same way sabella has his preferences , from my understanding he gives more importance to team chemistry , he is not going to break that at any cost.
secondly he knows our midfielders and attackers lacking height so he is considering that in defense so that we can tackle aerial threats as well they can be dangerous in set pieces too.

and about GK , yes romero screwed his transfer. but in copa he was one of our most important players with out him we wont be reaching that far in copa.

i already posted about willy , once he openly announced his desire to be in NT in media , that attitude wont favour him. yes i was wishing someone from local league may get a shot.

and sabella prefering some players with good physical strength that can matter in dying minutes , i think sosa is that kind of player , i am not impressed though but sabella seeing some versatility in him too..

and we are not favourites guys , we are just behind brazil, germany and spain :)
