Alejandro SABELLA: "World Cup in our backyard"

Alejandro SABELLA spoke about the World Cup.

Alejandro SABELLA spoke about the team and the World Cup. Here's what SABELLA had to say:

"The World Cup will be played in our backyard, but let's not forget the owner of that backyard are the 5-time World Cup winners".

"ANDUJAR is getting playing time again and that makes me happy. ROMERO is a consummate professional. It's going to be difficult for there to be a surprise call for the World Cup."

carlo, is he had love he wouldn't get sent off stupidly, he would be greedy and he'd have balls to step up and take a penalty v Germany in 2006. saviola would have.

It's a completely full fill plan between Coach Alejandro Sabella & Lionel Messi to cut out Carlos Tevez from Argentina National Football Squad. I think Carlos Tevez is most valuable player for Argentina for 2014 World Cup. I think Carlos also know very well that this is last world cup and last chance to do some think for his country, so he give 100% on the field. So, I request to Coach if he is really an Argentinian, if he respect football, so please immediately call up Carlos Tevez to Join the National Team. This is not a Political issue, this is National game for own Country. Carlos Tevez really loves his Country and also a good player he should have one chance. Requested to all Argentinian to please Vote for Tevez, we all want to see Tevez play for Argentina in 2014 World Cup.

Sabella have a great attachment to his players selection and that sometime brings us a misunderstanding that he's stubborn and remove from his comfort zone (harmony and balance of the team). Although time is too short to bring new faces but it is never too late to brings a best player.

I think we misunderstood Sabella he says there will be no suprise call for the world its self not the up coming matches . This means players like Willy can be called now and by the time world cup arrives it wont be a suprise. Let us with blue blood believe in 2014 .

As for the keeper issue, despite the rumors and my initial excitement on the Caballero call up, I am more and more convinced we are only going to see maybe 2 or 3 faces on the final list that we haven't seen before/recently. Cambiasso, Otamendi, and maybe 1 other defender/midfielder. Aside from that, barring injuries, Sabella's team is set.

What is all of this I am reading about Gago not playing well for the NT? What matches have you been watching? Leo plays his best for the NT when Gago is playing.

The problem isn't Gago's play....it's that he is made out of glass and a cool stiff breeze injures him. Exaggeration, I know, but the issue is his health/fitness, not his play.

Sbella gonna keep the exact same squad and if there's to be any edition it would be back up only!

He's faithful to his players even if they're shit or bench warmers in Romero case.

All the other big teams tried plenty of players yet sabella barely gave a chance to new faces or back up goalkeepers.
I hope messi puts a word in, as he's the only person sabella would listen to.

On behalf of Del Bosque, Löw, Van Gaal, Prandelli and Scolari I would like to say thank you very much mr Sabella. We all fear your attacking quartet, but by playing Romero we will easily outscore you. We'll just put in several crosses our forwards can latch onto. Caballero would come out and catch our crosses but with Romero we know your goalkeeper will be a sitting duck. Thanks for helping us proceed to the next round. Much appreciated!

i ve followed the national team since 1990 world cup my friend.

Gago, has no creativity with NT whatsoever except how to pass the ball sideways. he's missed sitters for the NT.
maxi is 33 and di maria can be hot and cold. what other option does Argentina have as cover for them. masherano does not get injured, maybe banned, but not injured.

@baker..yup Kun scored the winning goal, it was a tough match, very difficult to watch.
I salute the line up who played in that game...yeah that's include Romero, Sosa, Brana, Guinazu etc all these names we never want them in all along to Brazil haha
I remember Higuain said about the match after the first half in the dressing room, and was behind 0-1, something like "We seen each others in the eyes and we said, we gotta win this match" and they did, that spirit is valuable.
The crowd was like 70-80,000 colombians vs 200-300 argentinians. Yet the fighting spirit of the team won that game.

One thing people almost forgot here about this current team under Mr Sabella is that:

ARGENTINA this time is a "FIGHT BACK" team.
One example is when we against Colombia in away game. It looks very hard to win especially when Colombia get the first goal and the support from the home crowd almost make the giant team look like a chicken shit.

I thought at that time Argentina will lost that game. The forwards looks very tiring, the defenders at that time looks soo vulnerable. BUT then again come 2nd half, like everything's change in sudden.
The fighting spirit of the whole team is crazy.

PLEASE if you guys can, look again at the match.
ARGENTINA in 2nd half is different. Their determination is so up high, it's like some kind of enormous force get into the team and make them stronger and then lead to a win. That game was memorable one to me. To me, it was a notorious game, mentally/physically.

The line-up for that match is a remarkable one. I respect them so much!!

kid: Joachim Löw is Germanys mistake, I use to rate him very highly but not any more and he should have been sacked after the last w.c yet alone the euro disaster.

as I said the w.c is the pinnacle for any player or manager and sadly for any manager of the top 6 teams who are expected to win it (by high fan expectation and the media) they will be judged by 1 thing.

@kidulthood and Baker. FIFA World Cup is tournament of unpredictable moments. You will never know what will happen next until it happens. By predicting, who will score the winning goal is just fantasy. Like Messi said "first, we have to win the games". Nothing is going to be easy at the WC. We have a strong team that can win but nothing is guaranteed on paper. we have to do game by game. I just hope that we arrive in Brazil in top shape.
Secondly, I think that Sabella is a cunning coach who would not give away his final 23 just like that for public popularity. He's aware that his GKs aren't doing well and he wants to win. So I still beleive he doesn't want to give his rivals a hint of how his final 23 will look like which I think is very smart.

Even if I'm wrong at the end of the day, I believe Sabella has earned the right to pick whoever he wants at this moment. Besides, modern football is about systems more than individuals.

I dont think Sabella has already made up his mind....I think he is still not sure of GKs. None of our 3 GK are guaranteed the spot.None better than Caballero...but we will see what happens...I think this is the only spot Sabella still unsure of...

The rest is almost confirmed in my opinion.
3+7+8+5 = 23
Defenders: 7 Zabaleta,Garay,Ferandez,Rojo,Campagnaro,Basanta,Otamendi.
Midfield: 8 Mascherano,Gago,Dimaria,Biglia,Maxi,Ricky,Banega and Cambiasso/Agusto/Lamela
Attack: 5
Messi,Higuain,Aguero,Lavezzi and Palacio

Not that the FIFA rankings matter at this point but I don't get how Portugal is now at number 4..Ok so Portugal was like 11th or 12th in the world before the Sweden game, they had a poor qualifier which led them to the playoffs..So because Portugal defeat a poor Swedish team in two games that propel them from 11th or 12th place to now 4th in the world? So the new rankings that came out have Portugal ahead of Colombia, I don't get that..Colombia have been playing in a tougher qualification for years, they (Colombia) recently defeat Belgium and draw with Holland yet Portugal just leap frog them for doing nothing but winning two games vs Sweden..Brazil been around the high teens for a while they then won the confed cup which propel them to like 10th place..If Portugal can move that high up in the rankings so fast then the same should be for Brazil after the Confed cup..I'm just trying to figure this thing out not to make a case for either Colombia or Brazil..

There is some reason I think will be the difference between 2010 ^ 2914 WC.
WC10 was a disaster bcoz of those reason:
*No coach
* No team plan or tactics
*No deffence at all against counter attack
*No team spirit & leader

WC14 would be different bcoz of:

*Great coach & tactician
*A leader everyone respect & adore
*A group of players who knows each for long & has solid bond & chemistry
*Well balanced and still working on it
*Easy path to final (hopefully)
*WC in South America

My point is Sabella did what is has to done so far. Last time by the time Maradona didn't even know his first 11 but look at Sabella he knows atleast his 20 players that would go WC. Those little problem not gonna end of world. If Romero is choosen than he has time to train and has experience of playing infront WC crowd. To be honest don't care what happen I have faith on Sabella even some of uys calling him crazy. Does willy need to call up? HELL YEAH. He deserves but doesn't matter our coach is fool if he doesn't call him . He has reason for that sure.
Don't forget guys for that guy we have easy group stage and maybe all the way final

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfQrvgPMVLI

casillas have made 2-3 sure goal scoring chances for spain , even if it is a goal we can never blame the GK for letting that in .
but those kind of saves from a GK will makes the difference between champions and others , i dont know what sabella is thinking , if willy having attitude issue try some one else ....

@el principle , for me the real stength of brazil is their DMS , they do have paulinjo, gustav and now fernadinjo . their physical strength will kill most teams midfield.

but i dont rate their defense high when they are fielding alves-silva-luiz-marcelo as their 4 men defense , in that other than silva all others have tendency to move forward and contribute on attack that moment they are vulnerable to any counter.

Fernandinho is one of the most underrated DM in the world. A class act. I think he's the best DM/central midfielder Brazil have and is one of the best in the world. He's shown in in Manchester City.

Actually Brazil strengths this year are quite a lot. They have the best full back combination in the world. Dani Alves may not be in his top form, but he's in FIFA world 11. He's a proven winner. I don't think he plays bad for Brazil. I remember in a friendly of Argentina-Brazil where Argentina won 1-0 in Messi's goal, Alves was creating all the danger as FULL BACK. Can you imagine that. Their central defense is amazing too. You won't play for PSG and Chelsea if you are so so latin players.

Now their DM/central midfield look really strong. Brazil only weaknesses for me are only 2:
1. attacking midfielder/wingers
2. true 9

When Fred played like a world class striker like in Confed cup, we should consider them favorite. I agree with Sabella, don't consider Argentina favorite. Argentina young players can't handle that.

I will never underestimate Julio Cesar even if he plays for a Canadian team. He still got it.

Fazio vs Musacchio vs G. Rodriguez

In Sabella's logic/preference, It would be more in Fazio 's favor.
- he has the height, the tallest out of all.
- he's a beast in the air with 70/87 in headed duels (higher than Frederico Fernandez himself)
- Great passing and technically good with the ball.

I would prefer any of these 3 over Otamendi.

In my own soccer fantasy world, my 4 defenders would be

- Garay-Fazio- Musacchio- Gonzalo.

with Zabman and Camp on the right, Ansaldi and Santiago Garcia on the left

Masherano, Biglia, Yacob, Gago in DM

Banega, Di Maria, Maxi Rodriguez

Messi, higuain, Aguero, .... , ....

The remaining two spots Im not so sure

bt I respect Mr Sabella's decision with his selection. Cant wait for the Wc :)

People like to talk about Argentina defense..blah blah blah its not bad as to how some people like to make it seems..The only problem Argentina has at the back is Romero in goal, switch him with Willy Caballero and all will be fine but then again, Romero in goal is not the end of the world. People like to talk about defense, tell me how will Spain shaky back-line deal with the likes of Messi, Aguero, Higuain and Di Maria especially in South America of all places where Argentina will have unbelievable support in the stadiums..Lets see the last time Argentina met Spain in South America they (Spain) lost..The last time Argentina met Germany on Latin soil, Germany lost..It will be difficult for any European team to beat Argentina or Brazil this summer even Uruguay, Chile and Colombia will step up..The spirit and pride of the continent is going to be too much for the European teams to handle..You guys will see true football fans come this world cup, every time Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay play a game. Some people will say but Spain won in Africa, yes they did, but Africa is no South America..The difference is, South America won 9 world cups and have the best football players in history from the continent hence they're Europes biggest rivals not the continent of Africa..Unlike in 2010 where local South African fans would support teams like Spain, Germany, England etc you wont be finding that accommodation in Brazil of all places by the locals, they might only support a under dog European team if one of them is up against a traditional power house European team. South Africa world cant be compare to South America world cup this summer..Spain barely defeat Paraguay at the quarters last time, so you can imagine whats to come when they face a top South American team..I see all South American team going through and I see Ecuador topping there group over France and Switzerland

This is my own prospective on the 2014 world cup..And I do believe South American teams will dominate this world cup without a doubt..With Sanchez, Vidal and Co Chile will be a force in Brazil, and I tell you don't be surprise if Chile win the group over Holland and Spain.

Germany and Spain are great teams but for me they're too hype up by some media going into the summer world cup, none of these teams will win, they can have 20 teams playing in the UCL but none of that will matter in Brazil this summer..This talk about Belgium too, is overrated, even Japan for me is a more formidable team than Belgium..Belgium will not do anything this summer..The only European team I have my eyes on is Italy, they have the best shot out of all the European teams for me..

The only teams I fear for Argentina in this year world cup are; Brazil, Colombia and some what Uruguay..No I don't fear Germany, Spain, France, Italy or Holland

We have to lower out expectations if willy is not there even messi said few days ago that the team needs to fix little things I thought he meant the goalkeeper situation and probably the defense but it will be sad if sabella ignores that and sticks with this team now with out change

Johnny I agree with you, there has to be something in Caballero past that is preventing him from being call up at the moment..Even a blind man could see that Caballero is the best Argentine goal keeper at the moment, its that obvious.

Some nice words.

Former Argentina fitness coach Signorini claims Messi was "licking his wound" following Cappa's controversial quotes.

"When a feline has a problem [injury], he can't go immediately in search of the prey because he will do himself damage again," the Argentine told Catalan station La Xarxa.

"And Messi, to summarise, is a feline licking his wound: he is just waiting for the right moment to attack and pounce like he did on Sunday, when the team needed him and he scored two goals."

Signorini believes the last thing Messi will lose is his passion for football and claims the 26-year-old's movement on the pitch has been restricted by his recent injury problems.

"I think he would lose his passion for eating before he lost his passion for football," the fitness coach added. "A footballer never loses that desire.

"He uses such a large amount of movements and muscles that aren't used in other sports; he has to react instantly on the pitch and he also has the burden of discovering the dreams of millions of fans.

"Being a good footballer is very complex and even more so when you are a martian like Messi"

Sabella's comments continue to confirm for me that his decision not to take Caballero has something to do with off the pitch reasons. I don't know what those reasons are, but for me its the only explanation.

As for Tevez...he ain't getting called, and even though I'm a Tevez supporter, it won't hurt the NT that Tevez is not going to be in Brazil.

Though I could change my mind if Aguero and/or Higuain were injured.:) But even if that were to happen I don't think Sabella would call Tevez. That is clear as light at this point.

Thanks for posting that Kidult. A really good one. I hope Sabella stick with his decision. In 3 months, the pressure to call Tevez will be even higher especially Tevez is doing good for Juve.

Actually we're lucky that Juventus took him by the end of last season. Had Boca Juniors taken him, Sabella's decision not to call him would have been a lot tougher.

come on Sabella this is the last mistake which I can't resist by prefering Romero instead of Willy.Your intention clearly shows we are coming empty handed from brazil may be with more thrashing score line than in 2010.

Sorry guys there wont be any Willy Cabellero, I just read all Sabella tweets on twitter and he's not going to call up Willy. I'm wondering if Willy Cabellero is one of the traitors Sabella was referring to?

@el principe
i agree with you 100 percent and even more in tevez issue. if football can be compared to a musical program, tevez is the one who spoils the whole harmony. he caused our exit in 2006, 2010 world cups and the last copa america if not more than that. with him, messi played around 40 matches and could score only about 13 goals (these statistics are not exact, i am just writing from my memory). and he earned the criticism of playing badly for the national team. if tevez is not taken in the team, i think messi will let out a huge sigh of relief. so it is a huge huge relief that tevez is not in the team.
but to not to take tevez in the team, sabella need not avoid willy as well. willy situation cannot be compared to that of tevez. i know that tevez can cause more harm than the same can be caused by romero and roho put together. but still if sabella doesn't take tevez and doesn't change romero and roho, it seems to me as one step forward and two steps back. i wish sabella had only tevez's face and not willy's when he said so.

Spain used to have their golden boy, his name is not Oscar De La Hoya but Raul Gonzales. He was such an important member of Spain national team and everyone, especially Madrid fans adored him. Spain never won anything, not even made the semi final of either World Cup or Euro Cup with Raul in the starting line up.

Right after they got rid of Raul Gonzales, they won Euro Cup and World Cup.

Hope we'll do the same.

yes keep tevez out. he cost 2006 when he didnt step up to take a penalty.
he gets sent off
he misses penalty vs uruguay.
he is a liability waiting to get sent off in world cup.
as for GK, willy, romero, andujar----their all crap. most imprtant is which midfielders
gaitan, perez, alvarez, salvio, costa, are are talented

Remember guys, this World Cup 2014 will be the first major tournament we'll play without Tevez in 8 years. WC 2006, Copa America 2007 and 2001, and World Cup 2010. We made it with Tevez and we know what happened. I am not saying that Tevez is responsible for all failures, but he was a HUGE part of the team in each tournament.

The World Cup 2014 finally we'll have one leader on the ship, not two. His name is Lionel Messi.

If I have to choose between these two options:
1. Include both Tevez and Caballero in the final 23.
2. Exclude both Tevez and Caballero in the final 23.

I would choose the second. I like Caballero, but I am happy enough with the fact that Tevez will NOT make the WC squad, even if that means no Caballero either.

Fortunately Sabella is not that stupid. He learns from the mistake of Batista.

There is no use of having Caballero in the World Cup if Tevez is there as well. He would ruin everything... as usual.

OMG, that's a big boo in Willy's face! The man is working his ass off to get called, only to face the egoism of a wise man that sticks to his old dish!

It's like crossing over 7 miles to a 10 miles destination trip and refusing to replace a punctured tire, cause you're close to reach and risking the whole vehicle rather than implementing safety system to guarantee your arrival!

What Sabella said for me is both negative and positive. Negative because I don't think he considers Caballero unless one of Romero or Andujar is injured by the end of the season.

Positive because I feel safe now because he will NOT call Carlos Tevez (Carlos Tevez = surprise in Sabella's dictionary) as media in Argentina want.

Lamela out for six more weeks. You'd have to think his chances for making it to Brazil are very shaky at this point. He hasn't played any significant minutes in a long time and now won't play at all for another long period. I honestly can't see him going unless Argentina suffer a number of midfield injuries.

Sabella comments makes me very sad. I cant believe he will go to Brazil with Romero as the first choice GK. I was looking at clips with the match against Brazil in 2012 and ball keep falling out this guy hands...OMG Sabella you broke my heart.

A consummate professional who warms benches. And Andujar finally getting some playing time which is a rare quality to have for a goalkeeper. What's more 'surprising' than these comments from a national coach?

@baker think so? well, think again..i'm going to embrace Mr Sabella, great job he's done so far. Don't forget, if it's not for him, Argentina won't make it in the qualifiers round man!!!
Great to read he's not going to change much for the next friendly. It's not needed, the team he has now is far from terrible.
Amazing, just amazing....
