I have lots of respect for Xavi, Fabregas and Iniesta but at Barca, Messi is the best in this position. He makes his team play faster and more vertically, he doesn't need 5-6 passes to win 30m, he can eliminate directly 2-3 defenders and put his strikers in a very confortable position. That's why I think Messi will perform even better with Argentina in this summer coz Higuain and Aguero are really the best fit for Messi, even better fit than Pedro/Alexis/Tello and Neymar at Barca. Shaune Kidulthood Whellington (United States) Posted on 1/24/2014 at 12:40 PM 0 Herman Lavezzi have been playing with Messi since the Olympics, I'm sure they have no problem connecting together..I.e The friendly game vs Brazil back in 2011..It was the Lavezzi -Messi combination that gave Argentina that victory..Lavezzi and Tello is too different type of player...While Tello have pace, he's a poor passer and dribbler..By the way Tello waste a lot of goals and as someone said he's one of the most selfish players on the Barcelona team..I remember Messi had to cuss him in a UCL game vs Milan.. haman (Bahrain) Posted on 1/24/2014 at 11:52 AM 2 Kidult- The case here isn't Tello my dear, it's Messi! So many criticized him in 2010 WC. While he was one of the best players in that competition having almost created most of the assist to the team as well as hitting the post for five times if I'm not mistaken! Here comes Messi's strength when he doesn't score, he's the king of assists in style with his magical vision and killer thru balls!Tello's factor here, is his speed which is one of a kind and Messi needs quick players that could break the offside traps with their sprints. Therefore, using Lavezzi would be vital in similar matches if he improves his accuracy a bit!Sabella needs to keep every possible plan in his box and pull out a magical one when needed! I don't think so, maybe in the long term but not in the short term..Mata is way too lazy for me, what Man United needed was a hard working midfield player not a Mata type player i.e Matuidi, Song, Mascherano, Yaya, Vidal etc..With a fit Man United team, I see Van Persie playing up top with Rooney behind him, Rooney usually play more as a all round player these days than an out and out striker, he's more like a midfield player..So now this leave Mata playing in midfield alongside Rooney and Carrick/Fletcher..Mata will have to do a lot of defending which is not Mata strong point..So I don't see Mata helping Man United this season..Man United need defenders and fullbacks at the moment. Paul schole have been the bed rock in the Man United midfield for years now and I'm yet to see a Schole replacement. Fergie have often time make people believe that somehow Jones, Ashley Young, Nani, Anderson,Cleverly, Evans, Smalling and Welbeck are world class players or if not world class, they were heading in that direction..All these players are overrated, that's why they're struggling now..Mata only move to Man United because he want to be apart of Spain world cup squad..Being that Del Bosque haven't call up Mata for a while now, I just don't see Mata making the world cup when he has competition with Koke and Isco.. Abs (United States) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 8:55 PM 0 Why would Napoli sign Andujar ?! Kenneth (United States) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 4:58 PM 0 Has anybody monitored Paletta? I just recall the president of Parma giving him an absurd price tag at one point. Arglover (South Africa) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 4:28 PM 0 Gabriel Paletta and Andujar close to Milan and Napoli move respectively. Amlan (Bangladesh) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 3:37 PM 1 I think Tello is a selfish player. He always tries to take shots at goal even if there are better chance or scoring if he passed the ball. I have seen Messi getting angry at him at times for not passing the ball. Yesterday's match shows his selfishness. Tello missed the first goal by trying to take a shot at goal when he could have passed it to Pedro who was in a better scoring position. He missed that goal but thanks to Juanfran for that stupid own goal. The first two of Tello's goals were also example of his selfishness. This player has got speed and shot power but he is not a team player. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 3:14 PM 0 @KidultHood: Against Man.City I would give the edge to Barca. Tata will make sure to put all strong starters : Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Sanchez.....Barca struggles against mid table la liga teams like Levanta (in away games), and against R.Madrid off course (away and home), but can do well against tough attacking teams who open their game similarly. Man.City is inconsistent in this European Tournanemt, and I don't see them win over Barca on Aggrigate. Having said that, if Man. City wants to really win this, they gotta play a solid defensive scheme both games because Barca will have no clue breaking down the puzzles of British defensive wall. Kenneth (United States) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 3:00 PM 1 @ Johnny i too would love to see Falcao at the world cup, but as far as avoiding Argentina? Well Fernandez handled him pretty damn well last time :) Istiaque (Bangladesh) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 2:36 PM 0 and not to be forgotten the way he treated Abidal, Pep and Cruyff...Now I believe he is the reason pep left Istiaque (Bangladesh) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 2:32 PM 0 actually anyone would be better than rosel! apparently neymer was bought for the same amount as bale but was shown as less than half of the amount and earns almost the same as messi and more than iniesta!this is just plain ridiculous. Neymer is a very good player, but a raw and unproven player in Europe for that amount of money and with that huge salary is plain idiocy!! and Rosel sayd he did not have enough money to buy thiago silva....what an arse Johnny (Argentina) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 2:22 PM 0 Barca's president Rosell to resign apparently over the Neymar signing controversy. Good riddance. Barca's reputation off the pitch has suffered since Rosell was elected. Of course there's no guarantee the next suit will be any better. Johnny (Argentina) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 2:08 PM 0 A real shame for Falcao and Colombia. I would have much enjoyed watching Falcao at the WC as long as Argentina avoided him. Poto (United States) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 1:06 PM 1 Man I feel bad for el tigre, torn acl Shaune Kidulthood Whellington (United States) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 11:53 AM 0 @haman-''This should be deeply applicable on Sabella's team as it was giving Aguero, Tello's role or having Lavezzi who's the most similar to Tello in style, only if his finishing gets improved!''Can we please not use Tello goals as to how Sabella should play Aguero or Lavezzi with Messi..Really, Sabella team have been scoring goals like crazy already, so no need for a Tello elaboration on here..Its Spain who need to figure out how to get Tello in their team, this has nothing to do with Messi/Aguero/Lavezzi playing for Argentina so why bring them in a Tello discussion. (putting Aguero/Lavezzi and Tello in the same sentence is not even funny bro) Julker9 (Bangladesh) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 9:24 AM 0 TellO is better than Neymar !! LOl Johnny (Argentina) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 8:34 AM 0 I've always had some doubts about Sanchez, but he has been very valuable for Barca lately. Leandro (United States) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 8:19 AM 2 Tello is quick, but to me he is waaaay too green. He is currently very one dimensional. If he can work on keeping his shots low and on target he could be a poor mans version of Pedro.. comparing him to Alexis I think is a huge diservis. Alexis gets a lot of shit I dont think is jistified, his ability to hold the ball under pressure, patience to make the right pass and not force things and his very very hard work ethic when presuring defensively make him quite important to Barcas attack.. without a player like him upfront softies like Neymar and Tello would be a liability to the balance of the team. Same was the case with Pedros inexaustable pressure making it possible for Villa to poach with few defensive duties. haman (Bahrain) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 7:17 AM 0 Tello's myth is simple! Messi needs players with high response and quick thinking like Pedro and Tello, that's why they match well with him when on the pitch cause they don't need so much time to think, unlike Sanchez, who keeps turning around and taking time to think! That's the main issue I guess! Now Tata shouldn't let Tello leaves the club cause he created a great match with Leo with his quickness and sharp crossing the field, a very good option to break teams who apply an advanced defense for an offside trap! This should be deeply applicable on Sabella's team as it was giving Aguero, Tello's role or having Lavezzi who's the most similar to Tello in style, only if his finishing gets improved! baker (India) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 5:57 AM 0 mata to man u , will surely boost man u squad but definitely not under moyes cleanball (Indonesia) Posted on 1/23/2014 at 5:38 AM 0 Good playe by Tello and greta assist by Messi, I think Tello will leave Barca at his earliest as he did not get a regular playing time. Poyet is uplifting the Sunderland while Moyes is sinking the MU ship. el principe (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 10:30 PM 0 @KidultFor me players like Tello for Barca is just as good as Pedro if given a chance. Under Pep, Tello emerged as one of the next big things as Pep was the only coach who could use him. Tito Villanova and his assistant coach when he took over for a while, and Martino didn't know how to use him. Isaac Cuenca is not good enough I agree, but not Tello. He just needs playing time, that's all. For me Tello is more talented that Madrid's Jese or Morata or ex Barca B legend, Bojan. The problem for Barca for me is Alexis Sanchez. The guy enjoys his best season this year with high scoring record, but he never really worked well with Messi. We can check the statistics that Messi scores a lot less when together with Alexis. Messi scores more with Pedro, but not with Alexis. It is difficult for Barca to drop Alexis when he's been on fire, but you will rarely see Alexis giving assist to Messi when playing together. As we know Messi's goal scoring depends a lot of the teamwork of the team. pablo.d (New Zealand) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 9:20 PM 1 "the penalty shootout today between Man United and Sunderland was one of the worst I have ever seen in a longtime"it was almost as funny as the yellow team in the copa :) Shaune Kidulthood Whellington (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 8:00 PM 0 Abs the penalty shootout today between Man United and Sunderland was one of the worst I have ever seen in a longtime..Any goal keeper could have stop those shot on the part of Degea and Mannone's..Man United is a joke right now, thank goodness Garay is not at that club, his confidence would have been rock by the poor Man United performance these days..I don't disagree that Barcelona defense have improved but the test will come against Man City who is currently scoring goals for fun..Man City score 3 goals vs Bayern without Aguero and Yaya, shows this team is no joke..Can Barcelona defeat this current Bayern team without Messi? No, I don't think so.I feel Aguero will have as much effect on the tie as Messi, so Aguero give Man City what Messi will give Barcelona..any how I would love to see Man City go through over Barcelona..In this case Tata and Messi can concentrate on the Liga and CDR titles.. Whenever you have a product (and that's what Barcelona playing style is), you always have to upgrade it,and not sit back on what you always been doing, else the other teams will always catch up..I'm sorry but Barcelona attack is not fearful as it use to be, and I don't see Barcelona winning the league without Messi playing a huge role. People still think its the Barcelona of 2009/2011, but its not, Barcelona have regress in my book, not improve by their standards..I give Tata credit for what he has done, but the league have gotten closer than it was this time last season, that shows you that Real and Atleti have catch up with Barcelona due to their new signings and the evolution of some of their players who have been at there clubs for several season now. argentuban (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 7:20 PM 0 @Payaso: Barcelona defends as a team under Martino, hence the team making up for its frailties on the defensive line itself. That mindset alone has allowed them to do well without a solid, healthy back line. Getting another CB or 2 would most assuredly make them that much better (if they were the right players mentally), but it would have to be players that would align with Barcelona's style and Martino's philosophy. This would not necessarily the best defenders out there on paper.Argentina is also defending as a team, and if Rojo is in fact the LB and not a CB or part of a 3 man backline for Argentina in the World Cup, tactics and team defending will be the methodology Sabella uses to make up for whatever his runs expose us to. Abs (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 7:12 PM 0 I think Ustari is going to be a sub yet again, specially after Mannone's performance today !! El Payaso (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 6:50 PM 0 Barcelona's defence is clearly not that bad (as a team) compared to other teams. its one thing to say that they have a weak defense and its another thing to prove it. 13 goal conceded? I think thats what they look at when the season end. would it be better with better defenders?? its hard to prove Dfox (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 6:39 PM 0 Barcelona today was the puppet and Messi, the master puppeteer. Dfox (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 6:37 PM 0 I agree argentuban. argentuban (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 6:31 PM 1 Martino has clearly had a positive impact on Messi. Messi defends more, and when he isn't getting his runs he is opening up the goals for other players a lot more. This is excellent for Argentina. Mascherano has also improved his play significantly this season compared to before as CB at Barcelona, which should improve his play at DM as well. So long as that continues in the run up to the Cup, I do not care about Barcelona's defensive problems. Shaune Kidulthood Whellington (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 5:36 PM 0 Arg2014 now it seems like Puyol is injured, now what's next for Barcelona..They better hope Pique and Mascherano don't get injured at the same time and miss a few games, in this scenario Barcelona will have to play either Song or Busquet at CB..Barcelona don't have the squad to win the UCL..Man City team is too good at the moment..People saying Man City will park the bus, I don't think so, there is nothing special about Barcelona at the moment, for top teams to park the bus in order to win a game against them.. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 5:17 PM 0 KidultHood: Tata himself claimed back in August that he doesn't want to sign defenders and he`s content with the defenders in his disposal, he was more excited and didn`t want to lose the job....Barca was looking for more economic situation for a coach position with the promise to give him a better salary if he manages to work with what he has and saves the club some money. That was the case, but good luck now if he can win a single trophy this season. Shaune Kidulthood Whellington (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 4:55 PM 0 arg2014 you cant blame Tata. After Pique and Mascherano (who is a nautral DM), who are the remaining Defenders?Barcelona never learn from last season, they needed to sign several players but choose not to, Barcelona believes that with Messi they will always have the advantage over teams, that might be true but at some point this whole situation will get too much for Messi..For example if you put Aguero and Higuain in this team Barcelona would be a completely different team..Tata wanted to sign new players but Rosell blocked him.. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 4:45 PM 0 Tata is destroying Barca. I mean I understand his rotation bull shit strategy, but come one, playing both Puyol and Bartra as CB when both are liability to the team? Puyol should have retired to keep his dignity, but people like to get money on other's expense. Tata knows he's not a top tactician pro, then why did he accept a situation of not buying new defenders? Which defenders did he really develop under his reign with Barca? Shaune Kidulthood Whellington (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 4:34 PM 0 I"m telling you guys Man City is going to repeat a Bayern on Barcelona..Barcelona management was dumb not to sign players..Puyol, Tello, Mantoyo, Pedro,Song and Sergi Roberto all need to go...If I was Tata, I would have never taken the job unless I was promise 4 - 5 new signings with two of them his choice and not Rosell...Spending 100 million dollar on Neymar was just ridiculous.. Kenneth (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 4:03 PM 1 Never was a big fan of Ustari, unfortunate he sustained all of those injuries. But i never thought he was anything special, looks like i was right. pablo.d (New Zealand) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 3:41 PM 0 ustari was the next big hope but sadly it has not worked out for him so far but he still has time on his side to be the star we all thought and hoped he could be. Dinucci (Argentina) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 3:17 PM 0 Del bosque has a very easy job selecting. Barca\ madrid then a few spaniards in the epl. Shaune Kidulthood Whellington (United States) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 1:01 PM 0 Sabella is the sixth best coach's selections, according to a ranking compiled by the IFFHS. Del Bosque is #1 Johnny (Argentina) Posted on 1/22/2014 at 10:32 AM 0 Looks like Poyet is calling as many South Americans as he can to avoid relegation. Best of luck and I hope he succeeds.
