Lionel MESSI: TEVEZ decison up to SABELLA

Lionel MESSI has spoken about Carlos TEVEZ's chances of playing for Argentina.

Lionel MESSI spoke about Carlos TEVEZ and the World Cup. Here's what he had to say:

"It's the coaches decision if he decides to call him (TEVEZ) up. We have nothing to do with it. We have a great team and if TEVEZ gets called up, no problem."

On the World Cup:
"I've heard people say that our group is easy and we will finish first. But the matches have to be played. A World Cup isn't easy because there's the best National Teams. Argentina has the responsibility to finish first, it's true. But the matches have to be won on the pitch."

"He is a great player" only at club level not at n/t level and his plus 60 caps for 13 goals say it all.

Tevez would be great if he didnt hinder the team chemisty with his ego and bad attitude. It really is a shame. He is a great player, but he had his chance.

Mateo Musacchio is definitely La liga defender of the season so far and G.Rodriguez is on the other side in Serie A along with Andrea Barzaghi and Mehdi Benatia , so Villarreal boys are turning out to be world class at the moment.

Messi is the only one at the moment keeping Barcelona as a contender in the UCL, no one else..City team is way more stronger, physical, powerful and aggressive than Barcelona at the moment....

Tata not signing enough players this season is going to come back to bite him..How can Tata take a job yet he cant buy players he would like to see come at the club? Whether its from Europe or Argentina, their is no preference I would like to see as long as he had sign new players..Ancelotti sign for Real Madrid this season and he already brought in a ton of players..Pelegrini sign for City and he brought in his own players with him..Mou re sign with Chelsea and he already add a few players..Pep sign with Bayern and despite them being champions,he still bought new players..Tata wasn't forceful enough at Barcelona. You telling me he had two transfer windows now and only Neymar was available? That's just not good in today's world of football..

I doubt Tata will stay at Barcelona next season..The man is being run like a Puppet by the Barca board, forcing him to play players like Sergi and Tello instead of getting new players at the club..

@Julker9

I am talking about ball possessions here not who beat who. When Bayern lost against City at home. Bayern won the ball possession 58% to 42%. City had nothing to lose during the game. They benched their key players like Zabaleta, Kompany, Aguero and Negredo, yes they won but not out possessed them.

Check this out:
http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2014/matches/round=2000479/match=2011853/postmatch/statistics/index.html

In 317 Barca games where they always won the ball possession since Rijkaard era-Martino, yes of course Barca did lose several games, but when it comes to ball possessions, they just lost once in 317 games! I hope it is not too hard to understand. Do you get it now?

What I was saying was there is no way Manchester City would beat Barca if they try to win ball possession unless you are Bayern Munchen because of the simple fact that the only team in the last 5-6 years who beat Barca (half Barca B actually) AND AT THE SAME TIME winning the ball possession was Bayern Munchen in a friendly last year. They are the only team in the world who have the same quality of midfield, attack, chemistry, and coach as Barca.

Again, I am not a fan of Bayern at all, I am just stating the fact. Bayern is for me the most improved team in the world in the last 2 years. Where every other teams strengths remained pretty much the same, Bayern improved.

el principe Guardiola Is not the coach anymore..Even at the end of Guardiola tenure he lost to Real Madrid.Barcelona lost anyway to Celtic in the UCL already a team inferior to Man City at the moment..Who care about possession these days..Bayern had more possession than City and yet City still won scoring three goals away..Spain had more possession against Brazil yet they lost the game. Tiki Taki is no longer superior and unless Tata bring it to another level than say Guardiola team, then I don't see tiki taki dominating football again anytime soon..fast pace counter attacking is way better and that's what Bayern and City are playing at the moment..

Read this:
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/pitchside-europe/tiki-taka-masters-barcelona-lose-possession-battle-first-111604032.html

Rayo Vallecano was the only la liga team in 317 matches who won ball posession for the first time against Barca... and they still lost 0-4.

In Europe, only Bayern won the possession in a friendly earlier this year and they won the game.

So really, no way you can beat Barca by trying to win ball possession unless you are Bayern Munchen.

Pellegrini's Villarreal was 1000 years ago when Barca was coached by Rijkaard. That's not the same at all.

Barcelona should have at least buy 3 - 4 players since the beginning of the season and in today's January transfer window..Barcelona squad is not strong enough to win the UCL this season, and will have a fight on their hands for the La Liga title...Pedro and Fabregas are not BIG game players (Pedro was good back in 2009 -2010 but now he's hot and cold), Sanchez is not bad, when he clicks he can be a force but confidence usually plays a huge part on how Sanchez perform these days.

Barcelona should know by now that they cant rely on these up coming youth players in the team..Tello and Sergi just don't cut it for me..A strong team should not have any weak link when you're battling for 3 - 4 titles in a season. When Messi, Xavi and Iniesta were at the same age as the current young players in the squad, they were already taking the league by storm. Not the case with these new young Barcelona players.

Bayern won the treble last season and they have already bolster their squad even more with the inclusion of Thiago (Barca made a huge mistake letting him go, he's by far one of Barcelona best youth product since Busquet), Gotze and Lawendoski..If you take Messi from Barcelona, I don't see them having a shot beating any of Europe top teams at the moment.

Since the Summer transfer Market and the current winter transfer market, Barcelona should have had 4 players for these position..

1. CF (More of a poacher type striker who is a good dribbler)

2. CB (And I mean a real defender not some attacking minded player)

3. CB

4. CAM ( Barcelona currently need a midfielder who can be a game changer on his own in BIG games)..

Barcelona lack this type of players for these position, so I don't see them beating Pelegrini Man City team..When you have players like Tello and Sergi Roberto coming off your bench, I really cant see them competing with City over two legs..Neymar is now injured, what if Iniesta injury turn out to be serious than previously thought? Is Sergi Roberto going to step up and play great against some of Europe most elite teams? I don't think so..

Man City will win the tie, even if Barcelona have Messi, I just don't see them going pass Pelegrini Man City..

I always have high opinions on Tevez, to me, he is actually the second best forward(just below Aguero) in the national team as Messi is the playmaker. He can replace Higuain or Aguero if one of them can't play and the difference won't be too big unlike the gap between Lavezzi and Aguero. About the world cup, I guess most important thing is to win the first 2 games and let the major players take a break on the third one before the next stage. On 2006 and 2010, they got knocked out in quarter because they burnt out after 4 games and were already quite tired in quarter. Of course the main reason of their elimination on 2010 was due to the tactical domination by German. Sabella and his tech staff need to keep his players as fresh as possible physically

@el principe:

I disagree with you, Pellegrini have a great record against Barcelona, specially when he was with Villarreal I can remember the games when Villarreal dominated the game from the start and won with 3-0 and 2-0. He actually played with 4-6-0 formation in one of the games.

For Barcelona to come out winning, they'll depend 100% on Messi and that's it !!

I honestly wouldn't mind a Tevez call up in March, i mean if he gets called up and really has a negative effect in the locker room then Sabella will catch it. Sabella is no fool, IMO Tevez won't get anywhere near the national team. I mean if Sabella was persuaded by the Media then Caballero would be starting for us. Would that be a bad thing? No absolutely not, but i wouldn't be surprised if Sabella comes out to say " I have my forwards selected already"

World cup: 4 tasks only

1) Let's top our group and avoid Brazil.

2) Take Knockout stages a game at a time and defeat all teams in 3 games, get to the finale.

3) Most likely Brazil will be waiting for us, so let's demolish them along with their crowd who add more pressure on them.

4) Play each game as a final, and play it humble especially in the knockout stages, and especially in the QF, wink wink. They are only 7 matches....only 7.

Neymar is out for 4 weeks due to ankle sprain. Messi will have to take full responsibility now, meaning full 90 min in a tough schedule in the league. Barca will play strong clubs for the next 4 weeks in La Liga, really bad timing because we all want Messi to avoid playing 90 in all matches.

I don't think pelligrini would set up like classic chelsea...and Barca at the moment are not quite as vulnerable as they were under tito to be honest. Tata fixed that to a certain extent (the match against atletico is the perfect example). Atletico at the moment play as a narrow and rigid defending unit plus quick counterattacking aerial game to get goals...getting a draw at calderon was Tata's best tactical achievement this season so far.

The only way to beat Barca unless your team name is Bayern Munchen is by playing strong counter attack. I am sure Argentina Sabella with fantastic four including Messi can beat Barcelona with Messi (if there are 2 exact same Messi).

If City want to dominate the game against Barca. Congratulations, they won't have any chance. I agree with arg2014, as strong as Yaya Toure, Fernandindo, Silva, and Navas in midfield, they are no match for Barca midfielders.

3 years ago, Mourinho was so confident in his Real Madrid squad that they planned to outplay Barca in midfield. The result was, I really remember, 5-0 for Barca. Mou fixed his tactic the next time they met. He played ugly football ala Chelsea when he coached Chelsea. That way, he could get a draw with Barca.

Several years ago in CL final, Fergie thought that he had the best group of midfielders which combines oldies and youngsters. When they met Barca in the final, Barca schooled them and won 3-0 or 3-1 or something. The only team that can outplay them in midfield is Bayern. That's because they have Guardiola.

Barcelona's encounter against City would the most entertaining two matches of this season's champions league. There will be a lot of goals for sure. I don't know who will win. Barcelona as a team look a bit inferior than City who are in incredible form. I hope Barcelona will manage not to concede any goals or as less goals as possible at Etihad. I hope they won't get humiliated like they did against Bayern. But any of these two teams who manage to get past the other will be hard to stop in the upcoming rounds of Champions League. The winner will be a serious candidate of being the European Champion.

"I feel good, but I still lack that little extra. I need some more playing time to catch the rhythm and be at my best." - Messi

That is what I wanted to hear from him. Though he scored those two amazing goals but he was not that lethal Messi who dribbles past players with ease and rhythm. I hope he gets back what he needs to become that Messi again before world cup.

it's not only the man city's forwards that scoring goals, it barca's forwards too! when messi was not there, neymar, pedro and alexis was scoring many goals!
also when playing barcelona, it's not only playing against eleven man, it's like playing against a mental barrier. If you play your regular game you need to be the best in the world (like buyern munich), or you need to park the bus like Chelsea. And I don't think pelligrinni will play a "play 9 men behind the ball" tactic...he is far too ideal to do that.

Baker I'm not buying this notion that somehow if you go further in the UCL this season it will affect your world cup play..Germany already have the South American conditions and travels in Brazil to worry about regardless of how they do in the UCL(as long as people don't get injured I think they will be fine going into the world cup) ..Brazil will ride high off their supporters in the tournament so I don't see the UCL affecting Brazilian players at the world cup..

Arg2014 I sort of agree with you but this tie is a TOSS up in my book at the moment..Aquero can change this game too..We all know how Barca back line struggle against quick skilled players..Barcelona has a lot of weakness and that is especially on the flanks..If Alba and Alves get caught up high on the pitch Navas & Zabaleta will punish them..Messi is undoubtedly the ace card though, and he's going to run circles around Kompany and demechelis/Nostalgic

When Messi was injured, and I thought Messi would come back after this clash, the odds go towards Man.City, however after Messi return and with this form, I think Barca will defeat Man.City easily. Barca players have been playing together for years now, same folks add to that Neymar skills.....Man.City don't have that build up chemistry as Barca. I would say Barca will pass the test.

arg2014 We all know how Germany is good but if they come across teams like Colombia or Italy which is possible then their goose is possible cook before they reach the semis..People acting as if Germany is some how flawless at the world cup..yes they made it to Semis for the past two wcs but 2006 was nothing to go by and 2010 was Diego fault..If you notice back in 2010 Germany lost against Vidic team and barely manage to defeat Ghana..All this hype surrounding Germany as if they're a gift to football.

I don't see Germany making the semis, 2010 would have been a better year for them when KLose was in full swing..Germany have never done a good job in South America..

I want Barca to be eliminated,Messi and Mashe needs to be physically sharp and fresh.Zabaleta and Aguero need more big match experiences. So I wish Man City to progress, but not more than semi-finals.Let's Bayarn players to battle till the last day of fixture.

Off Topica bit but for me Man City has the upper hand over Barcelona..Pelegrini have done to Man City what he did with Villareal, Real Madrid (although he lost to the best Barcelona team in history he still manage to get Real Madrid a record 100 points) and Malaga..For me Man City is just better at the moment than Barcelona..Leo Messi is the only factor keeping Barcelona in this tie at the moment because Messi will run circle around Kompany and whoever plays with him..But its time for Aguero to run circle around Pique..Higuain already expose both Hummels and Mertasecker in the UCL group stage..

If Messi turn the clash into the Messi show, then Barcelona goes through, if he decide to take it easy on Man City, then Aguero and Man City will prevail..

I like both clubs, obvious because of the Argentinian contingents on the teams but I would rather see Aguero playing in a UCL final, Messi already been their and done that..World cup final is all Messi should think about...If say Aguero wins the UCL or make a deep run and he also win the BPL title and win the world cup with Argentina no doubt he and Messi will be 1 and 2 to claim the 2014 BDOR..

I hope we see Brazil- Germany clash before the final so Ronaldo can read the draw better next time before making a wish. They will meet in the semis most likely unless Germany avoids the clash by qualifying 2nd in the group which is most likely what will happen. Germany is notorious for avoiding difficult draw routes by losing a game.....especially when the host is Brazil. Germany boring football will be murdered by the Brazilians.

I was thinking of the defensive problems we've had for the past 5-6 years and I started thinking of the future of Argentina's defence, at the moment there are a lot of young argentine defenders wanted by top european team and argentine defenders on the rise, after the 2014 world cup I see Argentina having one of the best defence in the world, i see Santiago Garcia, musachio breaking into argentina's xi after the world cup, Musachio as a defender has great leadership he's a fearsome defender that's really tall I see him becoming one of the world's best defenders and I sense that he'll have a time in which he'll captain Argentina. People have been saying how Argentina have decreased in producing great players in the past few years but what I noticed is that argentina slowed down on the production of explosive attackers and started producing more great defenders, I see Argentina being a better all around team during the 2018 world cup than this one but they won't have the strike force they currently do, one thing I'm hoping Argentina learns from the Germans is how to consistently produce great goalkeepers, I'm really hoping for a goal keeper to come out of Argentina and become one of the world's best, Argentina really needs a great goalie, caballero is really good when on his game but I noticed that he concedes a lot of goals in which many goal keepers are capable of saving, currently he and Orion are our best keepers, if caballero isn't in Argentina's world cup squad than I hope Argentina's starting keeper at the world cup is orion he's a very underrated keeper that doesn't make a lot of mistakes and is very consistent

The new role @ Naples should make Pipita stronger, especially as the go to #9.. best way to improve is to challenge yourself. We all know what he can do as a poacher, lets see what he can do as 'the man'.

I agree Kenneth Higuain have no one to pass him the ball on goal consistently..Higuain has to use is individual brilliance to score sometimes..Higuain already have 6 assist for Napoli, that tell you the state of the Napoli midfield. Higuain is involve in 15 of Napoli goals altogether in Serie A..Inler is not great at holding onto the ball are making swift passes..Mertins and Igsigne are not CM but attacking wingers..Napoli need to sign two midfielders in January..Napoli should not have been 10 points behind Juventus but they have themselves to blame for falling off that far behind..Right now Napoli is on 42 points; they (Napoli) lost at home to Parma and tied with newly promoted Sassuolo which cost them 5 home points, they would have been on 47 points instead of 42 points currently..These poor results are the lack of good midfield players in the starting XI..I heard a rumor about (Totenham) Etienne Capoue, moving to Napoli in January, at least that's a start for them..

@dinucci Higuian is doing fine, but the reason why he is not scoring as much as he did in RM is because of the weak ass midfield Napoli has. Higuian is often seen playing a deep role and holding up the play so people can play off him. Much like Giroud is doing for Arsenal. He really should have more goals but Napoli's midfield makes my eyes hurt, it's like none of them know how to play football

Winning WC 2014 will be hell tough for us. Just cause it is being held in Brasil. Pele & FIFA will try best to set up the world cup to Brasil on the Brazilian soil. And if somehow Brasil eliminate before final and Argentina go through, all the beasts form Amazon will be against us. Pele will try his best al least stop Argentina politically.

the messi bashing from some quarters reminds me of how the same happened to Michael Jorden when he was winning every thing, its a classic case of "tall poppy syndrome".
without a doubt messi is the best player in this planet and to miss 2 months of play time and to almost (to be honest should have)win it again shows just how good he is.

Tevez has always been good anytime his teams (Boca to West Ham to Corinthians to Argentina Olympics 2004 to City first season to Juventus) relied on him solely/heavily.

In contrast, Tevez was not good/not that good whenever his teams relied on someone else on attack like MU did (CR7 and Rooney) or City in his second season there (Aguero) or Argentina in Messi era.

Now let's make it simple. If he is called, will we rely on him? The answer is no. If we do not rely on him, then Tevez can not play great. That's the simple theory.

Tevez is the best one-man-show player in soccer since Maradona. The Olympic 2004 show, West Ham heroic show, and City first season proved that. I think he is even better than Messi-CR7-Ribery in terms of how much a player makes a team better. If you start a team with a bunch of losers and will pick a player from around the world, then Tevez is better than anyone today. His one-man-show is unbelievable.

However Tevez is one of the worst role players I have ever seen since 1980's. He can not work with other dominant players especially with those better than him.

Based on performance, Tevez has been one of the best players in Serie A this season. However, he doesn't want to be there and we don't have a problem leaving him in Italy. All we hope now is maintaining the safety of our players and keeping them away from injuries.
Now, waiting for Aguero to get back on track along with his superb performance.

Ezequiel Garay is ready to reject a move to Zenit St. Petersburg because of on-going interest from Manchester United, according to reports in Portugal.

The Red Devils are believed to have a long-standing interest in the Argentine international, with the player himself claiming he would have move to Old Trafford but for reservations from new manager David Moyes.

But with Nemanja Vidic expected to depart Old Trafford in the summer and Rio Ferdinand also approaching the end of a glittering career, Moyes is on the lookout for replacements and has renewed his interest in the £25m-rated defender.

It seemed that Moyes had moved too late however, with reports claiming that Zenit had agreed a deal with Benfica for Garay but the player has given the Premier League champions renewed hope.

According to O Jogo, Garay is prepared to reject the big money move to Russia because of continued interest from Manchester United.

It leaves Benfica in a tricky position, who are keen to sell players to ease financial troubles, but also don't want to see star players leave on the cheap.

The €40m double deal for Garay and striker Rodrigo suited the Portuguese outfit but face the prospect of their players rejecting contract talks with the Russian club.

With Garay's contract up in the summer of 2015, Benfica know his value will go down if they wait to sell him in the summer. And with Real Madrid entitled to 50% of any fee for Garay, Benfica are keen to sell him for as much as possible, meaning they are desperate for a January move.

UEFA.com Team of the Year: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich); Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Thiago Silva (Paris Saint-Germain), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich), David Alaba (Bayern Munich); Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) Mesut Ozil (Arsenal and Germany), Gareth Bale (Real Madrid); Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris Saint-Germain).

Really, no Messi on the UEFA team..This is getting ridiculous..I see a lot in the media are starting to hate on Messi but we the fans will always outnumber them..How in the world did Reus,Ozil and Ramos make this list and not Messi? You see Messi already came out swinging and is even motivated more to win the world cup..

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz former CR7 coach, voted for Ronaldo, Xavi and Iniesta...Queiroz , you will have to face up to Messi in the world cup, lets see if you can hide behind your bias in that game..

How I see it, all these fake scandals they had out on Messi while he was injury was apart of the BIG scheme of taking the BDOR away from him..

The never ending Tevez telenovela.. fact is Tevez is a top shelf forward, we would benefit from him in the team. However, he needs to show his maturity (meh) and convince Sabella he is willing to be Palacios ball boy, who although less intimidating than Tevez has been more successful on and off the NT pitch. I frankly dont see that happening. But it would be great to have Tevez as a reserve incase either Messi, or Kun or Pipita get hurt. Palacio and Lavezzi to me are support strikers.. we dont really have any scary lead strikers in our pockets.. so while I would cringe and be worried of Tevez in the team, I would also try to stay optimistic that Tevez would try to impress in what would be his last WC. If there is a coach that can maturely handle the Tevez-Gate.. its Sabella.. I trust his judgement.

I love Brasilians, my best friend is Brasilian and I want all their women to pay me a visit at late hours.. so I have no beef against them. Besides Argentina they are one of the teams closest to our hearts. We are neighbours. We are embassadors to Futbol done right. So when someone makes our rivalry one of hate, I ignore them, because our rivarly is one of perfection, we make each other stronger. In my eyes Brasil has consistently produced the best 'Teams', a large part being their huge population to pool from and Argentina has largely produced the best 'players'. One of my favorite moments was after I think the 1994 World Cup where there was a friendly played, I think it was America vs Europe or something like that, the front two attackers where Fat Ronaldo and Batistuta.. I could have died right there and then watching those two partner up.

Argentina HAS to win it in Brasilian soil, that one star will be equal to the 3 they have over us. He he he :)

Just to comment on what was said.

As I said at least twice on these boards that Argentina winning the world cup on Brazilian soil will shut them up, their fans and their wannabe fans for all eternity.

Argentina is the ONLY country they don't have a winning record against, sure no other country has won the WC more than them, but their record against Argentina as it stands NOW is one less win while more goals scored and less conceded by ARG against them.

...and lets not forget who took who out of the world cup the last time these two met, They're going to have all the pressure of the world on them.

I don't think Sabella will be forced to bring back Tevez since he's never been on it since he's been the coach and honestly I think Messi doesn't want him back but will never say that outright.

Super Kun is due to play today.

Tevez is an amazing forward regardless his attitude. But the bigger question is > Do we need Tevez in attack when we have all the attacking options already covered? We have the BEST attack in the world at the moment and no one can deny it. And our part time attackers are shsping up as well. Now we need someone like Cammbiasso, a good LB and safe hands in GK. Forward is settled n there is no need to tweek. At the end of the day i ll b cheering for any player with our blue jersey in the wc whether its Teves, Rojo or Romero but that does not mean that they are the best choice for the team.

It's just not only payers responsibility to play the best, but also media & fans responsibility to play the best.

Argentine media need to give full support to Sabella and Messi now. Media need to understandwe can only win wc 2014 with Sabella, Cause Sabella is the man who is surely going to Brasil. Please don't put pressure on him, cause there is no way to change things like this way. Now just Let's wait and see- what is going to happen.

Sabella will be under lots of pressure to call him up by the people at home. The Boca fans are rabid and they hate Messi and love Tevez.

Gago and Orion are on the team, so that helps him relieve some of that pressure.

But now even the media are riding the Tevez bandwagon. They are really pushing for Tevez to go, even over Cambiasso. That makes no sense whatsoever, we have depth issues in midfield and defense and have a keeper issue - taking another forward is stupid.
