Sergio ROMERO: "Hopefully 2014 will be better"

Sergio ROMERO spoke about his situation at Monaco and the World Cup.

Sergio ROMERO spoke about his playing time with Monaco and the World Cup. Here's what he had to say:

"They (Monaco) promised me that I would play in the French Cup. I have to return the vote of confidence that Alejandro (SABELLA) has given me. I have to prove it on the pitch."

"It was an unusual year. SABELLA let me play for Argentina but I didn't have the same luck with my club. Hopefully 2014 will be better."

The World Cup:
"We were given a good group, the important thing is that we travel short distances. If we play like we have been playing for the past two years, things will go very well for us."

Although many might not agree with this, but technically i believe that Romero is the best goal keeper between him andujar nd caballero. I know nothing about Orion so I can't judge him. All goal keepers r vulnerable to making mistakes nd of course the lack of playing time will lead to more mistakes; however, I fully trust sabellas choices nd Romero remains my favorite choice hoping that he will have more minutes in 2014. The friendly matches directly before the World Cup could also be a gr8 chance in order to check Romeros mental readiness!! Happy new year or all Argentina fans; 2014 will be our year ! Cheers :)

@leandro every one here is with romero , and i cant find any other solution at a very short interval of time.
romero played with use for a quite some time , that exposure cant replace easily . but his playing time is the only concern

What has happened with argentina coach.. In 2006, Pekkerman left Zanetti, Veron and we lost to Germany. In 2010, mad man Diego left Zanetti, Cambiasso, and we lost 0-4 to germany
Now in 2014,it seems we will left Cabalerro, Cambiasso, Tevez eventhough they has earned enough reasons to be at the NT....

@baker: so true. The worldcup winning teams have excellent goalies that make crucial saves for the team when matters. In our case we cant see that happening with romero(or any other goalie to be precise).

it is not just silly mistakes , in all big matches the winning team goal keeper would have saved a crucial goal scoring chance ,
but in our case if opponent gets a clear chance it is a goal , we didn't saw any crucial save from romero in recent matches but of course we won most of it.

The hopes of all the fans are joined to your hopes Mr Romero since there is no way you won't be Argentina's number 1 goalkeeper during the world cup. Let us pray for you having a good performance during the big event so long waited. Your performance must be combined of course with the performance of all the Group. Hope that after the 13th of July 2014, the headlines will be "after 28 years of Maradona lifting the World cup for Argentina, here comes the turn of Messi!!!".

We r the new generation of Argentina fans have never seen us to win almost anything, after we had started supporting Argentina. Discovering a new & very different team Argentina under Alejandro, We are starting to believe, Messi will lift the wc 2014!
------------
We have seen again & again, terrible selections & sad decisions of the coaches eliminate us in Every single wc. We're scared, "Will our believe be ruined by a single decision again?"
------------
I've no problem if Romero doesn't make any silly mistake in the wc. None expect from a goale to make a unbelievable save to win a match, but If we want to win the wc, Romero will have to play the best football he ever played..

In 2010 and Copa America, Romero was playing well, better than most of other Argentinian players in the team. I also never actually paid attention to Caballero. I was quite content with Romero.

However, now Romero is not the 1st choice of his club. He hasn't played for his club for a long long time while we know that in WC we need to be in top condition. If this is continue, even though I'm thankful with Romero's service so far, I feel safer if we include Caballero in the team.

Isn't AFA going to arrange his transfer to another club in Argentina? I don't think we can expect much from Monaco. I hope @argentuban is correct that Sabella is thinking about this carefully and will make the switch if nothing changes in a few months.

@Dante Pastrana: I didn't bring god into the discussion. I responded to someone who did, to remind them curtly that it is not a given to those on this board. Take a critical reading class.

Furthermore, my post pointed out that Sabella isn't going to publicly denounce a keeper who has broken confidence. Internally, he and his staff are most assuredly looking at options. He even alluded tot his fact several months ago when Romero was not playing for his club.

If Romero gets regular playing time, his timing and basic skills will not deteriorate and he will be fine for the World Cup. If he does not, it is inevitable that Sabella will make a switch.

Suarez looks like a changed man since that ivanovic incident. There has not been any bad incident reported against him ever since, not even a dive(in PL). He has become more matured & unselfish. Moreover scoring goals have become fun for him. His goals are outstanding. He seems scoring difficult goals rather than simple goals. He can dribble past opponent & score, he can shoot from either foot anywhere on the pitch & score long range headers too. Currently he deserves the #2 position in world football. CR7 should stand behind this stunning el pistolero!
As for people criticizing him for not scoring against big opposition, are not watching the game. Its like saying Messi was poor in WC for he didnt score goals! Against city, the Liverpool goal were resulted from his clever pass & against Chelsea it was his rebound that Skrtel tapped into the net. Against Arsenal he was not at his best, but he came close with hitting the post. The game against utd was his returning game after the long ban, & it was a league cup encounter;nothing to fuzz about that. He was outstanding these games by creating chances for others. Against Liverpool in big games, opponents care marking only Suarez in the absence of StevieG; which gives him less space but still produces something for the team. Still he's the topscorer of the PL with 19 goals in just 14 games! Who can match that?!
Will you say that Aguero is poor just bcoz he couldnt score against sunderland?! Absolutely No. Both pistolero & kun are great playes, but at the moment suarez is one step ahead, no doubt!

True Pablo, the manager will never show their desperate and worry for any players which they've selected;

Sabella still have time to look after another "subs" gk for building his and team confidence on GK issue. However, Sabella's rely on Romero is still solid as he is dong just fine at N/T regardless the lack of playing time. Sabella is very pragmatic and emphasis on the harmony of team rather than trial and error approach. Well, trust that Romero can have a better time in 2014.

I don't share peoples faith in Romaro as the saying goes "you are only as good as your last game" and by not playing regularly as a g.k is a disaster for any g.k.

sure he's been great in the past but that's the past and we are the now and looking to the future being the w.c 2014.

what scares me is when things don't go correct for Romaro is reminds me of a rabbit in the head lights.

Does he have time to recover before the w.c? -yes but if he's not playing regularly its time to change him not hold on to nostalgia, we did it before when pumpido tragically broke is leg and was replaced by gyco who ended up being a star for us.

Its not to late to change the g.k but its also not to late for Romaro to discover some form but will he get the chance to at club level?

@Baker Aguero would score many goals for Liverpool too if that was the case..Remember Aguero was scoring goals against Real Madrid and, Barcelona in La LIga for Ath Madrid..Aguero also scored a beautiful free kick vs Chelsea in the UCL several years ago while playing for Ath Madrid..Aguero was always a big game player..One of the main reason Barcelona are worried for their UCL clash vs City, that person is Aguero.

Like I said before criticism should be welcomed if the said criticism is constructive, but the second we notice that insults have replaced discussion as the main form of communication on this site then we all have to take a step back and calm down; after all we don't want to end up like those goal.com forums i.e. a cesspool of hate and insults.

I understand that Romero (like Tevez) has become quite a divisive topic on this site and I totally see where both sides of the discussion are coming from.
I for one like Romero and will continue to support the guy provided that he goes somewhere else where h can get regular playing time and regain his confidence.
However if Romero continues to stay at Monaco warming the bench then I will quickly withdraw my support for him because his recent form for the NT clearly indicates that he's in desperate need of playing time.

Suarez already failed to score against any of the BIG clubs he play against so far..

Suarez:

0 goals vs Man United

0 goals vs Arsenal

0 goals vs City

0 goals vs Chelsea

Aguero on the other hand have scored on all the BIG teams so far.

2 goals vs Man United

1 goal vs Chelsea

1 goal vs Arsenal

DNP vs Liverpool

Aguero>>>Suarez..

Aguero & Di Maria are the key players to win the world cup 14. Nowadays Di Maria is the most underrated player in the world. Go & Just pass the ball Messi, is a self-destroying formula. If we can use the best of Aguero, Messi will be an "Ace of no trump"!

the reality of our situation is 2 of our 3 Gk arent doing well with their club. Catania currently have the 2nd worse defense in Italy. And I think everyone is to blame (not just the keeper).
therefore we're only left with Orion.

Now Imagine Romero having a blunder in the opening game of the WC and let's say that (God forbid) we dont get a win. Wouldnt that affect the spirit of the team?

Guys lets easy on each others...

@kid : i am reading your posts for quite some time i know what you are thinking , but every one do have their own facts to back up for their points.

The fact is , every one in mundo will be supporting that blue and white color irrespective of who is wearing that , it doesn't matter for us who will represent that but the passion remains same. even if messi is there or not even if we wont win the glory again , we still be supporting the same team with more passion.

Having said that , every week in mundo we are discussing about our players performances , we are worrying about messis injury , we are happy with pipitas and kuns goal streak , we are appreciating dimaria and maxis commitment , some are worried about lavezzi palacio and lamela, we are discussing about our defense options.

but do you guys noticed one key role we are not able to analyse in every weekend....? yes our first goal keeper position , because he is warming the bench in monaco.
is this not a serious concern...? for me yes it is . it is not that when he wearing our NT shirt we all will be seeking his blood , we all will be chanting for him for sure , we will support him but lack of playing time is obvious concern here.

it just few months before mundial and i am not sure is it the best time to replace a GK..? well i dont think so , i hope romero will understand his situation and hope he put extra blood at least in his training sessions.

I think Leandro said it best, but i'd like to add that we should be debating not giving one sided opinions about the players.

Honestly, the people on here who bash the Sh*t out of a player given a poor run of form make me think that they are just Messi fans, and that they want the best possible team so support Messi. Instead of the best possible team for Argentina, if a player is on the pitch for Argentina i will support him 100% obviously if he is playing terrible i will be angry and i will cuss at him, but still support him to do well. This is where i think people have their differences.. i will always support an Argentina player, i will hate them and love them at the same time, but at the end of the day regardless of who it is i will always want them to do well.

Even if they don't play for some poor French club..come N/T i will put my shaky faith in him and pray that Argentina comes out on top.

Its cool to show frustrations, its cool to disagree, or to defend players, etc.. what is NOT ok is to be an ass about it, to use aggressive language, etc. Be nice people, show respect to everyone here and most importantly to the players and the coach. If you have something critical to say, say it nicely, if its important just saying it should suffice.

I for one think we need to be patient with Sabellas choice for Romero. @riquelme.10 Romero has consistently been one of our top 5 players every game since winning the Olympic games and his time in the NT. He has saved our asses countless times. Its only very recently that he has had a few flops and his club status is detrimental. No one should say he sucks or is a shitty keeper, cause he is not, he is a professional with titles, WC experience and playing in competitive teams. Should he start? At this point probably not.. but if he does start, its not an injustice, nor is it a suicide decision, nor is he the savior.. lets see what Sabella does, its a sensitive situation.

This place is to express opinions and that is what most do, except you who somehow think the team needs your support. I guarantee you Sabella and the players are not reading your comments and not getting any moral support from you.

So instead of lowering the quality of this website by repeating your nonsense I suggest you either contribute in a positive way or just stop writing and instead read to learn.

You can rarely come on Mundo and get a positive vibes about the team, even Arg2014 have come around lately and is way more positive since the two friendlies played in the USA earlier this year.

I'm just so sick of the player bashing, the indecent language towards our players and so forth here on Mundo.

You guys need to lighten up and relax for pete sake man.

I have hear on Mundo how bad our defenders are, I have hear how bad our goal keeper is..These are excited times for me and I'm confident with our team at the moment and no negative vibes here on Mundo will dampen my spirit about the team..

Guys just relax and enjoy what we got no need to use over the top languages to describe our players..We as supporter need to show the team as much love as possible..

And for those who constantly bash the team please take it over at GOAL.com or Bleacher Report you will find a few compatriot of your own there....

SHUT UP about being positive on Sergio Romero. If you want to praise him and love him, send your "love" message on his twitter account. In here, we talk about the whole ARGENTINA team that is going to the World Cup 2014 in BRAZIL...and we want that team to be stronger in every position. Right now, our problem is Sergio Romero, his weaknesses weakening the strength of the whole team.

The amounts of people here on Mundo alone who keep bashing Sergio Romero is a prove that MOST Argentina fans (whether they are real or new) don't want to see Argentina fail anymore at WC because of poor selection managers did since 2002. They say enough is enough, and that is very true.

It's only natural people shows resentment when they see something terribly wrong with their own favorite team who they love so much. It's natural people will criticize it. People who DON'T CARE, they just don't care and leave this issue and they never talk about it.
While we, the REAL ARGENTINA WORLD CUP FOLLOWERS OR FANS will keep talking moaning bitching about it like there's no tomorrow, and nothing will stop that.

I do encourage some true fans here at Mundo to keep bashing the choice of Sergio Romero as Argentina first goalkeeper. Please, don't stop, never stop, unless we do see some radical change about it. WHY?
Because this true fans DO CARE!!!

@Argentuban I think the point he made was clear! It’s not so much the point to point out flaws but we keep beating the dead horse in saying negative things about ROMERO. Enough already!! Our moaning isn’t gonna change Sabella but actually upset real supporters by the player bashing. Go take the negative crap to another website to whoever this applies to. God is Real and bringing him or politics into this forum is pretty ignorant on your part!

@Kid Do you know why Argentina didn't win World Cup since 2002-2010???? It's because Willy Caballero is not the goalkeeper....HAHA!!!

Romero chose money over his playing time. It will hurt NT of course. Sabella is so arrogant that he said no need to exchange the NT Goalie.. Awwfull, against Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Spain then we will cried like last four year if we dont change our goalie

Romero might of change is mind because their are report of other clubs interesting in Victor Valdez and with the other clubs in the picture now, I don't see Valdez going to Monaco anymore as was the case earlier..

Romero I support you 100%, like I do support all Argentine NT players whenever they play for us..I'm aware of Romero situation at Monaco, so too Sabella, that's why I said earlier I will let Sabella do the talking..

All the HATE will only make Romero stronger than ever, the kid is still young and not even in his prime yet..My question is, Willy Cabellero have been around for over a decade now, why did he not play or feature in the 2002,2006 and 2010 world cups for Argentina? Must be something why he hasn't been called up under the past previous manager.

As I said we are looking at a world cup winning goal keeper right here..

World cup is where players make their names not clubs and guys like Romero, Banega, Rojo, Fernandez, Biglia and Lamela if pick will make a name of themselves at the coming world cup, I don't need to mention the other establish players in the squad because they will become LEGENDS in the end.

Personally I've always liked Romero and he has served the seleccion well in the past but if his club situation doesn't change then he must be relegated to the bench with either andujar or Orion taking the reigns.
The fact that Romero has made 2 vital mistakes in 2 back to back WCQ games means that his lack of playing time is seriously hindering his form and we can't have that in a pressure cooker environment like the world cup where even the tiniest things could mean the difference between 2 evenly matched teams.

@kidulthood you have to realize that criticism does not always amount to negativity especially when the criticism is constructive.
I think its perfectly within people's right to be worried about Romero especially when he's shown (in competitive games no less) that his lack of playing time is adversely affecting his form.

yo: I like a lot of others will always support the team and who ever starts for it no matter what but we will always have our thoughts, opinion's, ideas before any game, tournament, event as that is the way it is.
just because I don't like a certain player, selection or tactics, does not mean I would ever support them or the team any less come kick off time in any game for the blue and white.

So all the talks about Romero getting back his ass to Argentina is just BULL???

So he's going to stick there at Monaco and will have time to play only in French Cup next year....wow amazing, genius Monaco didn't want to play him in league matches.

Why do people keep supporting him as the first goalie for Argentina? Don't you guys want Argentina to win World Cup next year? With a terrible goalkeeping in his blood, Argentina most definitely can't win World Cup.

PLEASE tell me and let me know any previous World Cup champions with a shitty goalie as their first goalkeeper?

The reason why Romero is benched could be really due to his lack of form, he was supposed to join monaco on loan to replace Subasic. But I think Ranieri thinks that Subasic is still better after observing Romero in training.

Goalkeeper is an important position. We must choose the right one. Otamendi and Burdisso as right backs in WC2010 and 2006 have somehow caused us big.
We should not repeat the same mistake again.

We need an in form goalkeeper to win the World Cup.
Romero must get some regular first team action or we should try Cabellero or Andujar.

We must not blindly support the team, we have to be realistic with our chance, blindly support will only hurt us big if we lose the World Cup.

First off, people need to get off their high horse and stop telling people not to criticize or complain as though blindly supporting anything makes them a more authentic fan. It's a terrible argument. I won't be thanking "god" either, as it would make about as much sense as thanking the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus.

Sabella is going to stick by Romero publicly as he should, but I guarantee you he is examining his options at this point in his discussions amongst the coaching staff. He isn't going to say something to publicly degrade or demean the confidence of a player who is already hurt badly in terms of morale. This does not mean Romero will be the starting keeper. It means Sabella isn't a jackass like Maradona.

@Kid, How can we support Romero actually? In Sabella's first days, I always support his decisions, and for this- my friends have criticized me a lot. But, how can be the guy is the best goale of Argentina who is looking for playing in the French Cup? It hurts me- man.. :-(

Mundo seems to criticize than support our players..Notice the difference with Real Madrid supporters and Barcelona supporters. You will never hear Barca fans booing or dissing their own fans at the Camp Nou but at the Bernabeu they booed and dis their own players all the time..

You guys here need to appreciate what we got and thank God for the players we have and the favor he has given us already in the world cup draw and the path to the final..

Romero has world cup experience and will serve Argentina well if given the chance, everybody seems to always bring up the 2010 world cup game against Romero but didn't England conceded 4 goals vs Germany back then too.

I will listen to Sabella and let Sabella do the talking not critic here on Mundo who never coach or play for a team.
