Argentina with the easiest group

Argentina is in Group F with Nigeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran.

Argentina got the easiest group at the World Cup. In Argentina's group is Nigeria, Bognia-Herzegovina and Iran. Argentina's opening match at the World Cup will be against Bosnia-Herzegovina, the second against Iran and third against Nigeria.

Argentina vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sunday, June 15.
Argentina vs. Iran, Saturday, June 21.
Argentina vs. Nigeria, Wednesday, June 25.

Should Argentina finish top of Group F, they would play the runner up of Group E, which has Switzerland, Ecuador, France or Honduras in the Round of 16. Should they win that match, they would play the winner of Group H (Belgium, Algeria, Russia or South Korea) or the runner up of Group G (Germany, Portugal, Ghana or United States). Not the most difficult of matches for Argentina.

Is it possible to have this ranking:

1. Argentina
2. Germany
3. France
4. Belgium

Or these teams will face each others in the second round one way or another ?

I wonder is it a good thing to be in a easiest group at World Cup?
I mean, Brazil was in a easy group in 2002 and came out a champ, Italy was also in an easiest group in 2006 and were a champ, Spain was in a too easy group in 2010 and was also a champ. Argentina is in the most easiest group this time in 2014. Will they go and came out as a champ this time?

Bombonera I dont know man, Nigeria has a 50/50 chance of going through, the same can be said for Bosnia. The conditions in South America will suit Nigeria more than the Eastern European team. I see Nigeria going through with Argentina..Nigeria is way more talented throughout their squad than Bosnia..

hey friends , am from Africa and as I said i have been watching them.
when they drew to italy shud nt make some pple here afraid .
Take it from me, will definately take 9 pts comfortably and not to concede any goal from the group stage, God willing am going to remind you.
despite play with nigeria without mascherano , gago, and other key players like messi. and those with yellow cards.possibility is there nigeria will be knocked out by bosnia.

This is a comparatively good draw not only because of the group but due to the knock-out opponents. Rather than being in the Group of Death, I was worried about being in the group next to the Group of Death. If Groups C and G were swapped, it would have been just too good :) Last two WCs getting Mexico in Round 2 has been a bad omen.

However not to underestimate the opponents. Nigeria has always been tough opponents for us. In the first meeting in 1994 we had to come back from 0-1 down to win 2-1 with Cannigia scoring the 1500th goal of the tournament. In 2002 and 2010 we won 1-0. B&H was impressive in the WCQs. But I expect us to take the top spot.

Our biggest enemy would be ourselves. Caballero looks better than Romero but the worst position is right back Marcus Rojo :( who is bad in defence and pathetic going forward Ansaldi is a definite upgrade. But Sabella will opt for Rojo. This is the weakest link in the team.

I'm not surprised if Argentina conceded a few goals with unsettled backline + ROMERO, God help us!!

Our draw is brilliant. For sure we do not underestimate our group, but we must win it for sure! If all our toughest opponents will win their group, then we meet germany or brazil only in final. I dont afraid spain, italy, holland etc.

Only Brazil and Germany, Germany especially!

I agree with You 100%. We just must win. If we dont, this time, we dont win it never!

Our draw was 100% perfect! Easy group is one thing, but another is, if we and germany and brazil (our toughest opponents and only ones, who can beat us in my opinion) win our groups, we will meet only possible in final. And if this Argentina is in final, we will be unbeatable.

Its nice to be optimistic and supportive, but being over confident would work the other way around!

I can really measure our strength and team performance against Nigeria. Yes, Nigeria and mark my words the guys in green are one of the hardest opponents to face in terms of physical strength and pace. They have a young team for of energy and passion, where they have nothing to lose in Brazil.
If could have a good performance against them and cope well with their speed, then we should advance to the next level with more confidence.
It 'd be a warm up match for lets say Ecuador, we might face them in the 2nd round! And they always give us a hard time due to their speedy wingers!

At the end its just an estimation and from now to June things might change!

@kidulthood, people saying that in each world cup and yet Argentina always failed. Lower your expectations brother and you won't be as much disappointed. Argentina always had great players and went to each WC as the favorites, yet we couldn't even get passed the quarter finals. This time my wish is to break that tradition eventually and reach the semi finals. Then we can start dreaming of wining it.

I like how you folks are underestimating Rojo and Romero..Romero has world cup experience and none of our other keepers have ever kept at the world cup and that's a key.. Romero is solid for us, and as soon as he get back his confidence he will be good..Rojo will be a breakout player for Argentina at the world cup, I believe this with passion..

Sabella reminds me of Jose Mourinho a lot, even though I'm not a fan of Mou he's a great coach, I see Sabella with the same qualities..

Espn has a bracket you can fill out. The second place team in group b plays brazil. This will be either Spain or Netherlands. Then brazil gets Germany in the semis. We get Netherlands in the final for an argentina brazil final. No European team has ever won a World Cup on South American soil. Please Sabella find and answer for Romero and Rojo and the cup is ours

Chris how so, Our defensive record throughout qualifying have been good..

Against Colombia we conceded 1 goal over 180 minutes, against Chile we conceded 2 goals over 180 minutes, against Bolivia (a team that beat us by 6 goals under Diego Maradona) we conceded 2 goals over 180 minutes

We defeat Germany 3 - 1

we defeat Switzerland 3 - 1

we defeat Italy 2 - 1

we defeat Bosnia 2 - 0

So tell me where are the goals ''score on us with ease'' are you talking about? I know you may not like Roja or the fact that FF and Garay are not playing for Chelsea and Barcelona but that dont change the fact that these guys play good for us..Zabaleta is solid, Camapgrano is solid, Basanta is solid, Otamendi is solid, Gonzalo is solid..

And please Spain cant score to save their own life, you acting like Spain scored a bunch of goal at the last world cup,all I remember is Spain winning by a b 1 - 0 margin including against Paraguay..

The game we played against Brazil, Sabella was recently the coach for us, now the team has grown under Sabella.

Kidulthood...
With all do respect, and not to start an argument, but have u not seen any of Argentinas matches in the last couple of years???
With the exception of our front and midfield, we are amazing, but we have to be honest bro, our backline sucks!!!
I mean, come on, rojo ?? Really !?
Fede barely plays at Napoli, garay still has work to do, Romero isn't even playing, theres lots I can list.
Ur going to honestly say our backline hasn't had any problems ??
MANY teams have scored on us with ease, man.
We can't deny this!
Backline sucks, needs tons of work, I seriously believe Argentina has other defenders who can perform 10 times better then what we have at the moment.
U put a team like brazil, Spain, etc gainst us, forget it, it's a wrap. Look back at the game we played against brazil recently in the US, perfect example, Peru, last match perfect example, I'm just SAYIN brother.

I know everyone is thinking of how easy Argentina has it in the wc, lots of trash talk about it in the media already, especially from some of the Mexican fanatics, but truthfully I wouldn't underestimate any of our teams we are playing against.. Not one bit, we all know our defense is extremely weak, teams tend to score on us with ease.
I pray to god we will win this WC and messi recovers 100%, and is back to his norm...
Sabella needs to really start working on our backline, only couple months away, I can't wait super excited!!

It's time to believe!
Luck has already kissed us, now from the first match, we mist have beliefs, we can win every single game! If we concede couple of early goals, we will have to believe, we can score back three goals! If we haven't faith on us, we will be leaked easily. It's not like "We Will Win!", but- "We Can Win"!!

I'm very happy with the draw! It's very hard for us not to win the group. And I think on the paper we can beat Switzerland/Ecuador/France. I hope Messi will score on the 1st game, it will relieve burden from his shoulder a bit.

I also have thought that Brazil or Germany can purposely aim to be 2nd in their groups. But it's quite hard for them to make it look genuine since their groups is relatively easy as well.

Kenneth: People are already saying its Argentina and Brazil world cup to lose..Their is nothing unbalance about our team...We have so many quality players on the side line that is not even in the squad..

Colombia, Uruguay, Belgium and Switzerland being seeded have played to Argentina advantage, hence we got this favorably draw..

Argentina and Brazil are the favorites you already see the change in the media since the draw..

I saw a diagram where they had Argentina playing either Brazil or Germany in the finals..

My comments on the draw:

- The only thing I would change would be Algeria fo Nigeria, but who cares, it is a fairly easy group which we should top.

- If we top our group, we will most likely have an easy ride in the round of 16, Switzerland, Ecuador, or even France are all the same. And to call our self contenders we must beat any of them easily.

- If we end up second for unknown reason, we'll also meet one of the above teams, which won't be an issue, might have a harder time during the round of 8, but all the teams will most likely be alike at this point.

- Once we reach the round of 8 as a group winner, we'll face either the winner of the easiest group in world cup history, or the runner up of the group of death in this world cup. our best call would be Russia or Belgium, and both are capable of beating Portugal, Ghana or USA. Germany might end up facing us in that round, which I am really not looking for. While Algeria and South Korea are out of the picture.

- At the semis, we ganna face the best team from the other side of the draw, realistically it'll be Spain.

- The draw was amazing, and the only thing I would want to see differently is to replace group G with group C. Having Colombia, Greece, Japan, and Cote on our side is much better than having Germany, Portugal, Ghana, and USA.

- My best scenario would be:
1. Top our group
2. Switzerland in round of 16
3. Russia in round of 8
4. Uruguay in semi
5. Germany in the final

- The group worked in our favor finally, or shall I say as a pay back for Messi's 5th BDOR ?

- The draw was very simply illustrated, which increase the fact of it being fixed to a point. And after all, having the top four contenders as the optimal semi finalist can't happen by luck.

People forget that Ghana is a very good african side too.... The US have just as good a chance to qualify as Portugal and Ghana does. Germany will no doubt win 3/3 they are Germany, regardless of where they are playing, they are a powerhouse. But unless Ronaldo pulls something amazing out, the U.S have just as good a chance as Portugal or Ghana to hit 2nd.

If USA defeat say Ghana, and we have Portugal and Germany ending in a 0 - 0 or a 1 - 1/2-2 result, then this group will turn on its head..USA can get a result from the Portugal game, even win it(I don't think the USA is any Sweden, Portugal will need more than just Ronaldo if they're going to beat the USA)..Germany is a little tricky but who knows, after all Klinsman is the one coaching the USA..

@argentuban I agree all the USA have to do is make sure they beat Ghana in their opening game... that will be a game changer and ensure that they control Ronaldo in their next game against Portugal and they can either draw or win that game.... The final game in all likelihood for Germany if they win their previous 2 game against Portugal and Ghana will mean nothing which presents the USA the best opportunity against probably an understrength german team... But you never know there can be all types of possibilities based on assumptions alone, but certainly 3 Groups namely Group B, D and G present interesting matches

Am i the only one who is enjoying all of these "superstitious" facts? With the current halon' d'or winner never having won the world cup, group F never produced a finalist…etc etc. Excited to see Messi debunk these :)

On another note, our group is obviously very lax, but also a very good test as well. Bosnia will be a lot more difficult then they were in the friendly, but i don't anticipate any surprises. It will be good to see Argentina vs a strong big and tall team like Bosnia, a fast tricky team like Nigera, and our subs to get a chance against Iran.

Arg2014 And Argentina path also assure us that we will have; less yellow cards, more rested players and shorter journeys traveling in between games for the group stage..Could not have ask for a better scenario..The other contenders will have to play tougher games, their is a chance some of their key players will pick up bookings especially their midfield players, CBs and wingbacks, and to top that off their schedule in between games are not that good for them.

@KidultHood: Spain have a difficulty scoring, putting the ball in the net is like pulling tooth for Spain. "We're in the 'group of death' and besides that there are no long trips. Was a positive draw. Football is football, is the most illogical sports. But other groups were more difficult," said coach of Argentina, Alejandro Sabella.

"First you have to play, try to classify, go first and then party are parties," Sabella interrupted.

"Argentina is already classified. Centre rivals that we had insurance we have to qualify. Then can come Switzerland.'s Path seems clear," said Alfio Basile, who led the Argentinians in the 1994 World Cup and then in a second cycle of 2006 to 2009.

"Messi is what makes the difference, it is an extraordinary thing to God that heals well because if he is no robbery," predicted Basile.

Just wanted to add: I'm surprised they played the whole Goal of the Century when they showed all World Cup winners throughout history! You know, FIFA and Maradona... not best friends haha

I don't agree with Aguero, some groups are super easy like group F, H, and C....some other groups are crazy difficult....he should have said, thank God we got an easy group.

Aimar: I dont see a respond from Sabella as yet but I have Aguero tweet.

Aguero tweet: ''There's no easy match on the world cup, but effort and hard work always gives rewards! C´mon Argentina!!''

@KidultHood: Don't judge Netherlands of friendlies and stuff, they have a good record in world cup, they can top their group easy, they surprise in crucial games and send the favorites home. Their play style is unique, sometimes hard to predict, they bite like a snake. I see them reach the semi final if they top their group.

Brazil- Argentina final is 75% possible
Germany- Argentina final is 25% possible

Robben: Netherlands must finish first in group.

That's right Robben, go finish first and move to the right bracket where there are only Argentina and Italy there.

I don't see Brazil having a hard time with Holland, I would say Brazil will defeat Holland with ease..Brazil will have a more tougher time with either Chile or Spain.

Brazil would have been better off in a tougher group..But with Mexico, I see them giving Brazil a tough time especially with the new Mexican coach..I don't think Brazil will have it all wonderful in the group stage..

One thing for sure. Avoid getting draw in the win or go home rounds. We are not good at PK shootout. I am not sure if we can win PK shootout against the likes of Brazil, Spain, or Germany, Uruguay, or even Portugal.

Brazil will have a tough mission in the round of 16, expect a drama if Neymar fails to produce and that could be a repeat to 1990. Spain, Netherlands and Chile are all up for the clash if they come 2nd place. They are all capable of sending Brazil to street riot only if their guy fails to deliver. That will be the match we are looking forward to.

Good for us.In last 3 wc,our bad luck started from draw. This time it is not only a easy group but also a possible easy route to final.Recent wc winners like Spain,Italy,Brazil had faced relatively easy opponents until semi.We will get time and opportunity to improve as team before meeting any heavyweight.

arg2014 with Netherlands shaky defense and a injury prone Van Persie and Robben..It will be tough for Holland in these conditions especially coming off the European season..I don't see Holland going that far..

ok, I mentioned below that I feel Brazil, Argentina and 2 other European teams will make it: Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, and Germany. My bet, However:

If Germany tried to play it nasty and avoid Brazil side, they will come 2nd in their group on purpose to avoid Brazil Clash, and that will twist things around now.

This is how I feel about it:

Round of 16: Ecuador
QF: Portugal
Semi Final: Netherlands
Final: Brazil

I chose Netherlands over Colombia in the semi final coz I don't FIFA will let 3 S. American teams to reach semis, at least 2 European teams. I chose Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands, and another European team. Netherlands is stronger than what most think, mark my word.

Happy with the draw. I was afraid they're going to put Argentina in another Group of Death again. The team should start the competition strong since the first match is against the strongest team in the group. Good luck to the boys.

Im very happy with the draw.. If both Germany and brazil win their group, which they should, it would be a much easier route to final for us. This is our golden chance to win this world cup, finally.

Argentina will travel the least distance in the group stage. If they top the group they will play all their knockout games in the south (provided they win of course!).

There is getting lucky… and then there is this draw! Wow. I am ecstatic with this group for many reasons.

1) Being in a later group…we will get a few more days of training and acclimating which is essential for national teams to bond and gel

2) Geographically, we avoid the humid north and that wear and tear completely. you can't ask for a better run than Rio, Belo (where we will have our headquarters) and Porto A (which is the closest city with BA and will essentially be a home match)

3) Bosnia in it's 1st world cup and playing in South America should not present a threat.

4) Iran…do I really need to say anything more

5) Nigeria. We have a decent history against them and because the 2 other teams are so weak, we will need to win this match to secure the top spot in the group. Due to the way the rest of the tournament sets up, we really need to win the group and not come in 2nd and go to the other side of the draw. Lucky for us, this Nigeria match is the last group match (plenty of time to gel by then) and is going to be played in the closest city (Porto A)

All those things considered, we got about as lucky as you could hope for.
