BATISTUTA: TEVEZ deserves to be on team

Gabriel BATISTUTA spoke about Gonzalo RODRIGUEZ and Carlos TEVEZ.

Gabriel BATISTUTA commented about Gonzalo RODRIGUEZ and Carlos TEVEZ, saying they deserve a place with Argentina. Here's what he had to say:

"TEVEZ was a great buy for Juventus, he hasn't put a foot wrong until now. He's a good guy and a winner."

About Gonzalo RODRIGUEZ and TEVEZ:
"He's a great defender, it makes me happy to see everything he's done with Fiorentina. He deserves to be on the National Team, same for TEVEZ, who is doing well with Juventus."

Going back to the original article I think Batigol has given a very an intelligent and politically correct response to a loaded question. He said the duo "deserved" to be on the NT but didn't say they should be... There is a difference! However, this was probably translated from another language other than English....so who knows.

Our squad is in good condition, I just don't see us losing to a European team under Sabella reign in South America. Sabella tactically knows how to defeat the European teams..Argentina threat will be Brazil..I'll say Colombia but I'm just wondering what will Colombia do if Falcoa is not available, that's my only problem with Colombia..Uruguay will be a force as always on Latin soil. And Chile will be the surprise team, which for me they're no surprise, because they have a great coach with wonderful players.Ecuador will most likely make the round of 16...

I love how people here like to play down the effects that the South American conditions will have on the European players..Like for Germany, when was the last time they visited South America? Like 20 plus years or more. The South American teams are playing home advantage the European and other teams are the away sides..I hear rumors that they will be taking breaks during some of the games, that's how hot the climate will be in most part of the country..

Sorry, but a European team wont win on South American turf, I just don't see that happening, and its not like past years where you could say, oh, only Argentina and Brazil are a threat from South America..In all of my lifetime watching football, this is the strongest I have ever seen South American teams going into a world cup, even the ones that didn't qualify were good teams..

People saying Germany will win? If they couldn't win on their home soil or in South Africa where they were playing the best football at that time, what in the world makes them think that they have a shot in Brazil of all places? In South Africa a lot of the locals had European teams they support like; Spain, Germany etc, this wont be the case in South America because unlike Africa, South America is a footballing power continent and, European teams are their main rivals, so the big teams wont be getting any love in Brazil, maybe the locals will get behind some of the minnows from Europe if they're up against one of the bigger teams from their continent, but that's about...

Majority of the squad is on the plane to the world cup, I only see Sabella looking at 3 position; an attacking midfield player, a goal keeper and, a defender

The Cb position will be between; Otamendi, gonzalo and, Coloccini.

Banega seems to be the biggest liability in our midfield... very inconsistent... tries to dribble past many players as if he is messi... contributes very little help to our defense... he hasnt contributed much during the course of the qualification process too.. if masch gets suspended banega cant fill in for him... sabella could have tried yacob during the qualifiers instead of inconsistent banega...

So many here underestimating portugal just bcoz they didnt do well in qualifiers & friendlies. To those, they have been qualifying under playoffs last euro too;they were poor in friendlies; but once euro12 kicked off we saw a different portugal. Nice strong defence, hardworking midfield, & lethal counter attacking wingers. They were pain in the arse for everyone including spain. So dont write them off, they can cause upsets.

They were not bad in the last two worlcups either. They went out to spain for a solitary goal in the knockouts in south africa whereas they reached semis in the germany worlcup! not at all good ah?

i am surprised that nobody here on mundo have noticed that tevez tends to flop during big games!! when it matters the most he disappears .... he can create chances for others but we already have messi and dimaria to do that and also his finishing is not that impressive compared to our 3 strikers.. now dont get me wrong here,, i was lobbying for tevez few months back here on mundo but now i think its too late... if one of our five strikers gets injured then may be but for now i think we are ok... and also we have maxi who is in superb form,,,

I'm totally against tevez being called back, his record speaks for its self being 62 caps and 13 goals and that is simply not good enough.
he has always been in fantastic club form in the last 10 years and its not like he's playing beter then ever football now as he always has/does at club level.
his attitude stinks and in the last few years has made it clear HE is done with the n/t, why would we beg to have any player who treats the blue and white with disrespect in the team.

I expect players to crawl over burning coals to grab a n/t jersey , I know I would.

if tevez said some thing like...id do any thing to be in the n/t set up, start in the squad, maybe the bench and hopefully prove im good enough for a starting place"
"id be just happy to be part of the team" etc etc

then I could be swayed to include tevez as he does offer more then a lavezzi but no we get "im done with the n/t.

i was always favour for tevez to be in NT , but after reading many comments here in mundo such as he is not a team player , his attitude not good , he and messi relation not good... am pretty much convinced about tevezs exclusion out of the team... [but most of the comments are rumour though , no one actually knows the exact reason]

but calling him at this point doesnt make any sense to me , especially world cup is near and where we need highest team chemistry . and supposedly tevez inclusion will break the chemistry of the team , [ well thats the first reason he didnt included right..]

any way may be sabella considering in place of lamela..? who knows..?

I'm not against Tevez getting another look as long as he can respect the coach decision and play a bench role when needed to..To be fair, it would be good to consider Tevez for the world cup, I would rather see Tevez than Ricky Alvarez for this world cup, because Tevez has world cup experience and the fact that Tevez like Mascherano played for Corinthians in Brazil which would come as good experience for us. Look at what Scolari is doing with Brazil, he's bringing back a lot of veterans to his squad, players like; Robinho, Maicon and Julio Cesar have all been called up back for Brazil, and I have a feeling Kaka will be at the world cup too, Ronaldinho has an outside chance at making the 23 but not yet clear...Mano Menez was clearly going with fresh faces, Scolari is doing the opposite of that.

Argentina has the talent to win this thing, and for me the most important thing at the world cup will be players mentality, we need players with tough mentality on our bench..I don't see the need of having both Alvarez and lamela at the world cup, it has got to be only one and that should be Lamela. Lavezzi, Palacio, Maxi,Tevez, Campagrano, Basanta, Otamendi or coloccini,Biglia, Banega and Lamela should be our bench players..I wasn't for Tevez to be call back for the NT but I have change my mind..This world cup is going to be, one of the toughest, mentally, and I rather see more experience players on the bench and less rookies.

Did anyone hear what Sabella said in a interview today, he said, "I'm looking at a specific player, that did not participate with us in the WCQ, and he plays in Europe." I'm not sure why Sabella said that, unless he ment it, or he is thinking about it. He's talking about Tevez of course, it could be total BS, but still, why would Sabella say that then, or is he really thinking about calling Tevez. Remember, Tevez never played under Sabella, it wont hurt to try, its 50/50, but now Tevez knows he would be a piece of the pie, instead of fighting for it with Messi. Anyways, lets see what happens with the WC draw, Vamos Argentina!

The climatic conditions in Brazil will affect Germany especially players like Reus, Lahm and Muller, who tend to do a lot of running and so too Klose...Brazil have a lot of tricks up their selves but this is not the most dangerous Brazil side, when you look at past teams, right now Brazil is lacking for world class strikers, the only thing Brazil has going for them is the collectivism of their team.

Just responding to some thoughts on here:

1) Brazil will get an easy group. FIFA is an expert

2) FIFA will do their best not to place Brazil and Argentina in overlapping groups to avoid early clashes, however if Argentina qualifies second in their group, FIFA can't make it up to avoid the clash.

3) There is NO WAY Germany will be more threat for us than Brazil. Brazil is more balanced team, great talented players in every position, genius coach, and THE FANS....the pressure of the whole nation: BRAZIL.
We should avoid playing Brazil more than avoiding Germany. Even Colombia will be more dangerous than Germany.

STARTERS: Messi > Higuain > Aguero > Tevez
BENCH: Purely on attitude being a sub Lavezzi + Palacio > Tevez.

Unless Tevez gets on his knees after every goal at Juventus and begs to be a sub publicly, and unless he beats Higuain at goals scored this season and only if Lavezzi or Palacio get hurt or suck it big time.. Tevez should stay home and play with his dollar bills.

Well I think only team we really must afraid is Germany. This is a team, against who we are not good. Germany are strong, good with head game, but also very diciplined (for example, some other strong teams like africans or croatia dont have that). And whats most important - Germany is big tournament team (they have passed in semifinals almost 70% of times (!!!)).

Germany will cause us problems, especially, if we have so shaky goalkeeper like Romero. It is a possibility, that they will destroy us. And for example, I think Italy or Spain dont suit to germans and they will go down against them.

Brazil? In good day, they can be very dangerous and of course I would like to avoid them, but I think that in normal day our attacking power will destroy them (they dont have dicipline like germans).

And I say it for real: I really don't afraid any more teams! Spain is too boring and our counters will destroy them like bayern destroyed barcelona. Italy suits well also. Holland is massive in attack, but defenders are similar and our attack is better (4:2 :p). France is the same like Holland.

Portugal, England, etc. NO PROBLEM! Maybe Belgium is uncomftable, because they hace pretty strong and goot team (but luckily no experience).

So, lets avoid Germany (Italy or Spain will kick their ass) and maybe Brazil and we are on the moon!

Question: dont France have a great world cup record against Brazil? I don't think Brazil have beaten France at the world cup ever since Michel Platini was playing, maybe before him that's when Brazil defeat France..France have beaten Brazil in 1998 and 2006 the last time they met..So I think Brazil would want to avoid France at any cost, although I still think Brazil would brush them aside..

Go back and look at the Confed Cup, Uruguay was the only team that play good against Brazil..And to be honest even in the group stage when Brazil played Mexico, you could tell how nervous the crowd was in the stadium for the first 15 - 20 minutes..Although Mexico team was not having a good time at the Confed cup and was going through a bad patch, you could see the tension between them (Mexico) and Brazil when the game just started..If this new Mexican coach can turn around this Mexican team, I'll say even Mexico will give Brazil a hard time, because if you look at the past 5 - 6 results, Mexico have been dominating Brazil even when they play in South America..

Argentina have proven they can beat Brazil at the Maracana, like they did in front of 100,000 fans back in 1998..Mind you Portugal went to Brazil and get hammer 6 - 1 with Cristiano Ronaldo playing..Spain have lost to both Brazil and Argentina in South America already...

Brazil wont get no special treatment for the group draw, its impossible for Brazil to avoid any of the top teams in their group stage...If England, France, Italy and Holland were seeded, then Brazil would have gotten an easy group, but looking at the pots, I see no way how Brazil get an easy group. But easy or hard,I see Brazil having no problem getting out of their group.

The only teams that could beat Brazil in the final in Brazil, like someone else mentioned at mundo, are Argentina and Uruguay. Argentina and Uruguay are the only teams that are not afraid of Brazil, that's because we know each other so well. Argentina should avoid group C, E, and G if they want to avoid Brazil until the final.

Anybody in group C, regardless of easy group or group of death is the worst since they will meet Brazil in the second round, who will likely top their group A.

I dont really care if its an easy one or a tough group because for me group of death means group C, E, or G.

Our best scenario if we are in group B or D or F or H. Then Germany in group C, Spain in group E or G. That way, we would have the luck of Uruguay in 2010 (getting easy opponents until the semifinal).

Its really unfortunate for Leo that he plays for a NT comprising of idiot coaches & staffs. He should have played for Espana to complete his trophy collection.

Unless luck plays a part or the players give their heart out like the brazilians, worldcup is still a long dream for the albiceleste with this shaky defence.

Many of you here say that germany, spain have shaky defence,...but their defence doesnt look troubled on every attack the opposition makes..they doesnt backup that often..

Our defence backsup & looks troubled each time the opposition attacks..something the great teams dont do..A team like this has never won the worlcup in recent times..

arg2014 Even if you top your group, its a good chance you can face a top team that finish second in their group..Just look at all the unseeded teams going into this world cup, plus some strong African teams with physicality..Its not a guarantee that a group winner will get a favorably team in the knockout stage.

These are the groups I want to see;

Germany, Chile, England and, Nigeria..

Brazil, Italy, Ghana and, Mexico

Colombia, Portugal, USA, and, Ivory Coast

Argentina, Algeria, Australia and, Croatia.

Belgium, Holland, Ecuador and, South Korea

Uruguay, France, Bosnia-Herzegovina and , Costa Rica

Spain, Japan, Iran, and Russia

Switzerland, Greece, Honduras,and Iran

Switzerland and Greece are the only European teams I like, that's why I try to give them a favorably group.

Easy group vs death group:
Easy group:
pros: you can guarantee to qualify first or second to the knockout stages, not showing your cards, less yellow/red cards and most likely less injuries due to easy tackles "easy wins". Also, players get inspired and can push harder in the knockout stages as they are closer to the dream and most key players are fit. Save the best for last. Topping the group would lead to a clash against a strong team or a weaker team, so this could be double edge factor.
Cons: Team hasn't been tested against strong teams, couldn't eliminate the giants from group stage, so now it has to play them in a one game chance. Players get shocked with a big competition and a big battle after a walk in the park games in the group stage. More pressure on defenders and goalkeeping in those games so they go out nervous. The route most likely will be hard going out of easy group.

Death group:
Pros: eliminating some solid teams in the group stage and the route will be easier in the knockout stages. Building confidence after beating strong teams, so they come out brave not afraid of any team. Testing complex plans and formations in the group stage that mistakes will be less later in the competition, learning from mistakes and avoid them in semi/final games. Also, losing the favorite factor if they stumble in one game or two, so other teams underestimate them in the knockout stages, which could lead to a surprise.

Cons: Players will be tired, exhausted, missing some players from injuries or suspension after some battles in the group stage. All cards are shown to other teams and nothing left to surprise....when teams battle they usually show all their cards. Also, difficulty in topping the group could lead to play against a strong winner team in Knockout....or even get eliminated from the group stage if it is deadly venom death group aka 2002.

@Danucci: Agreed. Lavezzi is better suited for the team because of his attitude and his willingness to play from the bench and play whatever role the team needs.

Tevez needs to start, needs the ball and needs to be THE star. At Juventus, that is more likely to happen more often than not. If the front trio are healthy for the World Cup, he would never start and likely only come on as a sub. He would never accept that role quietly. Worse, the barras bravas would go apeshit if he was on the team and wasn't starting. Given the dynamic of the ignorant masses putting so much pressure if he were on the team, it's best to leave him off.

Personally i think lavezzi brings a lot more to the table than Tevez. His speed and dribbling are really good. I know he is seen as a "headless chicken" here at mundo but you cant deny that he would be a great asset to any team! Plus his attitude is better than tevez.

tevez has a tendency to flop during big games... look at his champions league stats this season... its so poor... aguero and higuain are far better finisher than him... but if he is willing to play a second fiddle then he could replace lavezzi... but right now i am more worried about our goalie...

my team for world cup

goalies: willy romero andujar

defenders: garay , fferz, hugo, zaba, otamendi, basanta , rojo*

midfielders: dimaira, masch, gago, biglia, alvarez, lamela, banega, yacob

forwards: messi, aguero, higuain , palacio, lavezzi

sabella should have atleast given yacob one chance.. defensively he is miles ahead of banega...

If you can't score goals with Messi, Agüero, Higuaín and di María on the pitch, it doesn't matter who you have on the bench.

It's difficult to read into how much favor he is trying to maintain in Argentina with his comments. Without the context of the interview, which was probably full of loaded questions, it is impossible to say what his real intentions were.

Coming out against Tevez would be detrimental to his status with the people. He takes no risk by saying that Tevez belongs on the team, nor does he do so with Gonzalo. If he says that they do not, however, he looks bad.

Everyone knows how immensely talented Tevez is, but he has shown to not gel with coaches or his team for very long historically at the club (outside of Boca) and NT level.

Wenger: “Argentina doesn't know it, but Messi can give a big win to his country. If he does it in Brazil he'll be the best player ever.”

Wenger: “People judge on the moment but Messi last season was truly amazing. He has the opportunity to be the best of all time.”

Arsène Wenger: “People say Messi isn't at the top of his game, but Barça won La Liga last season in a convincing way.”

Cafú (ex-Brazil) “Messi is a phenomenon, a great player. He's the best player in the world.”

arg2014 I agree with you 100%, that was the main reason I think FIFA wanted Brazil to win the Confederation cup this past summer, because if Brazil had lose the Confed cup people would have gotten outraged and start having huge doubt about their country world cup chances, hence that's why it was good business for FIFA to have Brazil defeating Spain at the finals..But I don't think FIFA care anymore because with Brazil winning the Confed Cup, people hopes are now up about the team chances in their own country..

With (Portugal, Italy, Holland and France) not seeded,it will be hard for Brazil to avoid a team from this group..I think Brazil will get one of Europe big 4 unseeded teams, a African team and a CONCACAF team, which I think will be USA or either Honduras..But I don't think FIFA will be doing Brazil any favor at the world cup, especially they defeated Spain already, so people in Brazil expect their team to defeat any of the European teams no matter which round they meet.

But I'm here thinking, Is a ''group of death a good thing or a bad thing for Brazil? If Brazil get place in a ''group of death'' and come out winning all three games, I think they will go all the way to the final, only team would stop them then would be either Argentina or Colombia or Uruguay(But it don't matter which team Brazil come up against in the group faze, they will be progressing to the round of 16). But I just think the world cup will be set up for a Argentina vs Brazil final..None of these teams will meet unless they both play in the final, that's how I see it..Why you think Ronaldo came out and say a Brazil vs Argentina final would be great? Majority of the football world want to see Messi in the final (even if all of them are not Argentina supporters, they just like Messi), so too FIFA..

I just have a feeling it will be a Argentina vs Brazil final.

@KidultHood: Brazil will get the easiest group ever, it's the host, and they are expert in fixing the draw in the host favor. Brazil spent billion of dollars for the WC and people are jobless/ hungry and without future....FIFA will do everything possible to accommodate Brazil or the country will be burned out from riots.

Bring Tevez to N/T under Sabella is like asking Tevez to join Estudientes instead of Juventus. No more appetite on Tevez for joining the N/T.

Dfox I think the 1978 Argentina group was the toughest ''Group of death'' on paper..

1978 group

Argentina

Italy

France

Hungary (back then they were a good team from Europe)

I think Brazil will get either Holland or Italy along with the USA with a African team from pot 2 or a light weight European team like Bosnia Herz..

Germany will end up with Chile, Ghana and England. Platini is trying his best to have France get a favorably group, so its unlikely France will end up in Argentina or Brazil group.

Tevez again?

I was one of his biggest supporters for being on the NT but that time has come and gone.

Super Kun has stepped up his game, or should I say fine-tuned his skills since I have always known he's special and a very gifted player.

Not only is he a great striker but his passing has improved.

I would love to see Tevez in our team but its really risky at this point..Imagine Tevez playing a supportive role off the bench, our Bench would look even more lethal..You never know though it might happen..Tevez have change since he transfer to Italy...Wearing the number 10 shirt for Juventus have made Tevez a more humble player in my opinion..

It's not about Sabella, it's about the players not wanting to have Tevez as part of the squad. They took a vote and they voted against bringing him in. While, I do like Tevez, I don't think our potential elimination from World Cup competition will hinge on whether or not he is part of our squad. We have plenty of options up front, that's never been the problem. Our defense needs lots of work. They can't even clear a standard cross out of the six yard box. That puts more responsibility on the keeper who also is a little weak at times. But honestly, any keeper with our defense in front of him is going to be made to seem average. Just my opinion.

To be honest, I am disappointed that Sabella didn't give Tevez a chance. Of course I am not calling for him now, but when Sabella became the national team manager, he should've assist the Tevez situation him self without looking at other's comments !!
