Have you seen him for Boca this season? KidultHood (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 11:53 PM 0 sulav787 Messi goal vs Brazil wasn't a counter attack goal, its was an individual goal..Yes it was the best goal under Sabella but it wasn't a counter goal..Messi did that all by himself. SulaV (Canada) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 10:43 PM 0 @bakermy best goal under sabella would be messi's 3rd goal vs brasil that won us that game! lookingdowhhole (Indonesia) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 6:58 PM 0 ANDY D, I don't think he will play for NT in the WC. AMC type of him would not go into SABELLA's scheme. haman (Bahrain) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 4:24 PM 0 Awesome Andy D! He was one of my favorites and the most thing I hated about him, being a River player. Not only him, but most of Argentina's talents! My bad :pI guess Messi's presence, wouldn't allow such players to be in the team. Name it, all of em are enganches. Roman, D'alessandro, Aimar and Lately, Pastore! KidultHood (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:49 PM 0 @Baker for me the goal Benaga scored against Italy. 2 the Messi goal vs Ecuador played in Buenos Aries WCQ 3. The first goal vs Sweden, higuain shot that led to an own goal. These are my top 3..Argentina scored more but these are the best IMO..If Palacio had scored that goal vs Italy that would have been the best of the bunch. baker (India) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 12:35 PM 0 guys which goal u think , the one of the best counter attacking goal after sabella taken charge..? KidultHood (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 11:07 AM 0 The Olympics base squad of 2008 for Argentina is all going to the world except maybe for Sosa.A.Lavezzi is in, he might not score a lot but Lavezzi is very crucial for the team. I get frustrated with the guy at times but I trust Lavezzi..Remember Lavezzi was PSG top goal scorer in the UCL last season.B. Mascherano, Di Maria, Messi, Garay, Gago, Zableta, Romero all in the squad if healthy. KidultHood (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 10:58 AM 0 @Deb. Maxi and Basanta is in for me. A player like Basanta is needed he's versatile just like Mascherano can play in two position..I don't see any reason why Sabella will not take Maxi to the wc..People who are still in the running if they have a great season:1.Sosa2.Pastore3.Augusto Fernanadez4.Tevez5.Guinazu People who may be out if they have a mediocre season1. Biglia (he's not set in stone on the current squad, he still has a lot of work to make the team for Brazil)2. Ricky Alverez. (Need a great season at Inter Milan to keep is place)I'm looking forward for Wilfredo Caballero to finally get is recognition by Sabella..I think he's in for the world cup.Now that Sabella has qualified for the world cup he can now do a lot of multitasking. True without your defense holding it TIGHT, you cannot take away that golden biscuit!! :) Amlan (Bangladesh) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 8:31 AM 0 It would be great to see a video of all the counter attacking goals of Argentina since Sabella took over. Amlan (Bangladesh) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 8:21 AM 0 @Deb: Except the Goal Keepers, I think only 13 places are decided yet by Sabella. He will not move from his position unless there is an injury with any of those players.Zabaleta, Garay, FF, Campagnaro, Coloccini are set for defence postions.Mascherano, Banega, Gago, Di Maria are set for midfield positions.Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Lavezzi are set for forward positions.I think Rojo, Biglia, Palacio, Lamela have not sealed their positions in NT. Deb (India) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 7:45 AM 1 20 places are already taken:RomeroAndujarOrionZabaletaGarayFernandezRojoCampagnaroColocciniMascheranoBigliaGagoBanegaDi MariaMessiAgueroLamelaLavezziPalacioHiguainRemaining 3 spots:Basanta / Ansaldi / Peruzzi / Clemente Rodriguez for 1 defense spot, andMaxi Rodriguez/ Augusto Fernandez / Ricardo Alvarez/ Guinazu / Brana for 2 midfield spots.Would be interesting to see his preferences over the next few matches. That would tell us a lot.Whoever they are, this seems to be a good unit. Players who know each other well, skilled and physically confident too. Cheers!! ArgiesFanIndia (India) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 7:37 AM 0 Apologies for very long post..but unable to express myself without that ;) This is how currently we stands in different positions.Goal Keeper: ----------------------------------------------Romero has good reflexes, he is tall and can made stunning saves, but he is always error prone. At times he makes silly mistakes e.g. against Paraguay. Believe me such mistake can completely down the moral of team. World Cup matches and World Cup Qualifiers are not at all same so on some other day it can cost the match (or may be world cup). Now in Monaco he is not even first choice, which is huge concern. Even if he back to his best no one can guarantee that he won't make mistake. That's why Ikar is Spains' No # 1 not Valdes. I haven't seen Orion much but against Italy Andujar had a good game but that's sufficient to judge. Now question is why can't sabella give a chance to Willy? Agreed that there is not much time and there are always some co-ordination required between GK and defenders but still 10 months left which is more than enough and we should choose the best. Remember in 1990 WC goycochea was Argentina's 3rd choice goal keeper and just before the WC Pompidu was injured so goycochea played his first match in the WC..rests is history. So why can't Willy? But I think Romero will remain out No # 1 so hope that he will back to best soon.Defense: 1st Choice < Zabaleta, Ezequiel Garay, Federico Fernandez, Rojo >----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Off-course we don't have the world class defense but so far they are very much effective..look at the positive side ..- > Argentina conceded 2nd least number of goals in the entire World Cup Qualifiers.- > Only against Paraguay they have scored 2 goals..(apart from Brazil scored 3 in friendly)- > They always try to press hard when they don't have the ball and fight for every ball, that's most important. They don't let anything easily.- > Garay-FF combining well together and also we have more options available for CB position. But yet we have so many issues..- > We don't have any experienced leader in the heart of defense (e.g. Brazil have T. Silva, Germany have Lahm, Italy always produce great defenders and same with other teams). Mascherano must need to take the additional responsibility.- > Garay and FF are very much similar. Not very fast and not very good with the ball. Moreover FF's lack of playing time is really a concern.- > Vergini, Basanta, Coloccini are other options sabella tried but there are not much difference in terms of quality.- > Campagnaro is good but not that young. Infect 34 for a defender is quite high.- > We always concede too many corners and free-kicks that may cost against Germany or Brazil. We must work on that area.- > Full backs - Zaba unable to reproduce his City form for us. Rojo never convinced me and Sabella is not interested in Ansaldi. But this is also not a bad idea to play a Center back in place of left Back position, just like Basanta did against Paraguay. May be vergini can be tried. But best part is all of them know their limitations and always try to give their best..more than 100%, and because of that we are in much better shape than last year. But Mascherano's presence ahead of our back 4 is must.Midfielders :-------------------------------------------In reality we are actually playing with 2 defensive midfielders. So Sabella has amost selected his 4 - Mascherano, Banega, Gago and Bigila. Out of that madcherano & Bigila is (80/20) defensive midfielder and Banega & gago is 50/50 defensive midfielder. Mascherano and Gago as first choice for 4-2-3-1 formation, which looks like our Plan A in WC. But in order to make this formation working Messi-Kun-Di Maria must start help in defense. Although they all starts any move from deep but if they do not help in defense then it will just increase the man in the middle. Our defending must start with Mesi-Higuan, just like Pedro and Sanchez always do it for barcelona. Not even messi can't be escaped from this. But if Sabella want to use some other formation 4-4-2 (or 4-4-1-1) then I think Lamela and Maxi already in Sabella's plan But I will prefer Banega because he is a good ball player. In defensive midfield position Claudio Yacob or Tino Costa are other options and in attacking midfield position Sabella can try Gaitan or Enzo Perez or even Pastore.Advantages --> In Mascherano we have one of the finest game breaker in the world but he needs support and so we have Gago.- > Gago's long ball is always very good. He always keep it easy and try to do simple things simple. Combines well with others.- > In Messi we have world's best play-maker. So is Di maria, Kun. Infact Banega is very good in that area.Disadvantages:-> We cannot hold the ball for longer period because we can hardly able to complete 10 passes. Very rarely I have seen we have completed 7/8 passes. Lost our ball position too easily in the middle.-> Gago is not very good in winning the ball. Banega tries to do so much and lose the ball. Di maria always tried to do too much and that's his main problem.- > Mascharno lost his cool quite frequently and have the tendency to receive yellow. He must need to avoid both.-> If Messi-Kun-Di maria do not support mascherano-gago them against team will struggle against Germany or Spain with strong midfield. Although we beat Germany and Spain in friendly matches but there are some difference between WC matches with friendly. But overall we have quality midfielders and we are not that poor in this area. If anyone of Messi-Kun-Higuan is injured then I would prefer 4-4-1-1 formation with Messi behind Higuan.Attack: Although we are the best in this area yet there are some concern.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1. We haven't lost any match for the last 2 years or so but we are yet to test against Park-the-Bus tactics.2. Higuan looks so sharp for us but under pressure he misses too many. Hope he won't miss anything for us.3. Messi always looks completely different player when opponents marked him (Zonal marking and Square-Box marking) or commit rush tackle on him. He gets frustrated easily. When he is the best player in the world and opponents know he is the game changer then why they will let him go easily? Messi must need to find something from that situation.4. Di Maria always tries to so much with the ball and at times lose the ball very easily.5. Kun - bad that he is not yet in his best shape. Good that he is not yet in his best shape. Also he looks very slow these days. Getting injured very frequently and so is Messi. Hope he will recover his best form ahead of world cup.6. We are very much depend on these 4 players for all the goal...But overall under Sabella Argentina's diversity of different matches are completely different, very encouraging. Some games they dominate the midfield but in some of the game they don't but they have always adjusted well in any situation and getting result. At times they can play position game also at times superb counter attacking football. They have great ball players in Messi-mascherano-Di maria or Kun and others always press hard to recover the ball. There have been some games were they were seat back yet still managed to win or draw through amazing counter attacking football. Even when they lost the ball a lot in the midfield but still managed to hold on and create plenty of chances. They try to mix their attacks between throw ball or passing game and always try to press a lot. Sometimes they build from the midfield or from back or even sometimes they attack on their own. Also They scored almost every types of goal - from direct passing, from buildup, solo goal, from free-kicks and from every corners of the field. It's bit difficult to defend them because our main men are fast, skillful and at times unpredictable. They can attack from any side without giving any sense of predictability. Best part is Aguero, Di Maria, Higuan can also create so many goal scoring opportunity without Messi's involvement. But fact is that defense can win the world not attack always. Only I think Brazil has own WC in 2002 because of their strong attack. In 2010 Spain Conceded 3 goalsin 2006 Italy Conceded 2 goalsin 2002 Brazil Conceded 4 goalsin 1998 France Conceded 3 goalsin 1994 Brazil Conceded 2 goalsin 1990 Germany Conceded 2 goalsSo in order to win the world cup we need strong defense and we must need to improve in that area. Johnny (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 5:33 AM 1 I think its too early to say for sure Maxi will go. A definite maybe I would say. Barcos ? When was the last time he was called ? Definitely not a certainty. Even though I'd bet Palacio and Lavezzi will go, I don't think its in stone. I will say that its clear that Sabella wants a cohesive unit. Players that know each other well on and off the pitch. That bodes well for the players we have been used to seeing, and that probably includes Rojo. Hopefully Sosa was an annoying nightmare that won't be repeated. The most interesting question for me will be the extra DM. Will Biglia impress enough to go or will a warhorse like Guinazu get the call. Or even Brana. If he's fit and ready I'd prefer Guinazu. For me Biglia is a nice player, but largely unproven, and doesn't do any one thing well enough to be overly impressive. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 5:22 AM 0 Sabella will take 7 midfielders: Gago, Banega, Mascherano, Di Maria, Beglia, Alvarez, Maxi Rodriguez.....As for Lamela he's either in forward list or he could take Alvarez spot. It's getting tough to choose for the midfield and that will be Sabella's dilemma. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 5:18 AM 0 Guys, what do you think about Juan Martinez? he's a good striker and some unique touches, not afraid to shoot, great dribbling skills too. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 5:15 AM 0 I think Sabella will take 6 forwards with him and they are: Messi, Higuain, Agruero, Palacio, Lavezzi, Barcos.Sabella loves Barcos height and he's in love with Lavezzi and Palacio. Also count there is a room for Maxi Rodriguez in the midfield, I believe he is in. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 5:04 AM 0 I meant in the midfield section. arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 5:04 AM 0 @baker I think Sabella places Lamela in the forward section since he's a midfield attacker not a striker. baker (India) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 4:45 AM 0 my squad of 23 will be forwards :messi:higuain:aguero:lamela:palacio:lavezzi:i know every one bashing against palacio and lavezzi , but am not sure who gonna replace them , we are having hardly 3-4 matches before mundial , i cant see they are getting any playing time so i can keep current offensive setup.Midfielder :defensive : mascherano, gago, bilgia, guainzuattacking : dimaria , ricky alvarez, banegai want to keep 4 DM , becuase that position is most crucial and we have card prone mascherano and injury prone gago , it is better to have 4 DM.Defenders:zabaletagarayFF,basanta, hugo, coloccinirojoGK:romerp, andujar, cabbaleroand i love to make 2 teams out of this 23.---------Romero---------------zabaleta---garay--FF----rojo-------------masch--------------------gago-------dimaria-----------------messi--------------------higuain------aguero--------------andujar-------------coloccini---hugo---basanta------------guinzu---bilgia-------ricky-----banega----lamela---------lavezzi-------palacio---- arg2014 (Canada) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 4:41 AM 0 I don't think the problem is his number 10 role in the squad that could interfere with messi and Di Maria, because Sabella could benefit from that and use him "train him" as Messi sub. The main issue with him is his age, by WC time he will be 33 years old, too much for a new coach who's building a team for the future, Copa America, Confideration, WC 2018, etc. Remember we already have Maxi who's more experienced, more versatile player and also old enough, we can't have another old player for attacking force. However I would like to see chances given to: Caballero, Scocco, and Ansaldi. Those are must....also would like to see Palacio gone, this guy will cost us a world cup if he's in. Mark my words el principe (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 4:09 AM 1 Andres D'Alessandro was one of my favorites. Back when he was still playing for River and Riquelme for Boca. It was such a great rivalry. Is he too old for Argentina now? Not really. I just think the reason why Argentina can not use any playmaker is because Angel Di Maria is taking the role now. Di Maria is a natural left winger, but Mou changed his position to right winger and Sabella made him more of a playmaker who operates more on the left. If you watched again the game of Paraguay and Argentina, you barely saw Di Maria playing on the left wing at all, but he looked good anyway. He used to be awkward playing as playmaker, but the more games he played for us, the more comfortable he looks in that position. The second reason is Lionel Messi. Lionel Messi plays a lot deeper for Argentina than he did for Barca. For me he's half "false #9" half "false #10" for Argentina in that sometimes he acts like false 9, sometimes he acts like false #10. So basically we have two "playmakers" already in Di Maria and Messi. Plus, Gago gets a bit role of deep lying playmaker for Argentina. So if we insist on another playmaker like Andres D'Alessandro or Pastore (pure playmakers who are NOT versatile enough to play in other positions) even just as a back up, I can see why Sabella does not want to do that. The best example is Walter Montillo, a pure playmaker, not versatile enough to play in other positions. 1. Walter Montillo vs. Venezuela (Argentina won 3-0). He started with Messi, Lavezzi, and Higuain. He played pretty good because he got the playmaker role, shared with Messi.http://id.soccerway.com/matches/2013/03/23/south-america/wc-qualifying-south-america/argentina/venezuela/1172929/2. Walter Montillo vs. Colombia (0-0). Montillo played with 3 of the fantastic four minus Messi. Then Higuain was red carded in earlier minutes. Sabella demanded versatility from Montillo, playing more defense, playing more of a defensive wide midfielder. Montillo ended up disappointing.http://id.soccerway.com/matches/2013/06/08/south-america/wc-qualifying-south-america/argentina/colombia/1172937/As a result, Montillo is never called up anymore. Arglover (South Africa) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 3:39 AM 0 Great to see another master 10 Argentine midfielder is achieving great things in Brazil which he could have gained in Europe, He was pretty good for VLF Wolfsburg but things started to go wrong when he joined shit Portsmouth in Shit EPl, today after 200 matches and 44 goals for Internacional, I think he can get legendary status there which is truely deserved for such a great player marindrianto (Indonesia) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 3:33 AM 0 Okay what's wrong with this guy? He cannot stop himself scoring very week. Like you Andy D! Hopefully I will see you wearing albiceleste jersey again before I die. chandran! (India) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:42 AM 1 Seperate section required for andy D!!!!! Johnny (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:31 AM 0 I agree with Dfox, I think Sabella is set up front save for an injury to someone. But as pablo.d says, it doesn't hurt to ask ! Given the ultra importance of Messi, I wouldn't mind seeing Andy D on the squad as a Messi replacement, if the worst would happen and we lost Messi. He certainly is a better #10 than Lamela and no comparison as far as experience. But, it ain't gonna happen. pablo.d (New Zealand) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:31 AM 0 sadly what you point out is all true but why not give him a go in a friendly and the result might surprise us all, their is nothing to lose as we do have time on our side. Johnny (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:27 AM 0 That's the problem baker. Andy D doesn't really fit Sabella's scheme. Andy D is a #10 who can obviously score goals. He would be a replacement for Messi. I don't think he would function well as a striker, and you can't play him as another attacking mid if you are going to play Messi, Higuain, Aguero and Di Maria. In a pinch I could see him replacing Aguero for instance, but its really not a very good fit for his skills. argentuban (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:26 AM 0 I don't see a spot on the team for D'alessandro. He isn't a 1 for 1 switch with any of the forwards, and his style would effectively have him playing in the same spot where Messi plays a lot of the match. You would have to drop Lamela to make room for him.Outside of a legitimate backup to Higuain, the attack is pretty much set.I believe that Sabella's focus to correct, in his mind, is on Biglia (will he go with him or someone else), the defensive line, and goal. baker (India) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:04 AM 0 if he is in the team , he can be a sub for whom...? Dfox (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 1:04 AM 0 I don't see him getting a shot and truly believe Sabella has already made up his mind about who is in and who isn't. There is some tweaking left to be done, probably concerning the goalkeeper situation and maybe some defensive characters but the blueprint is set, at least that's what I think. pablo.d (New Zealand) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 12:44 AM 0 Johnny: its true lol... I realise I cant ask mr sabella for too much as he has done so much for our Argentina after many years of the crap we have been served up but as they say if you don't ask you don't get" :) Johnny (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 12:40 AM 2 A love letter from pablo.d !! Amen !! pablo.d (New Zealand) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 12:37 AM 1 Hi Mr Sabella,as you and I know we have now qualified for w.c 2014 with time to spare, thank you for that unlike last time that almost caused me and my Mundo family to have heart attack(s) before "that" last minute goal allowed our Argentina to get us their as I don't need to tell you how nice it is to be able to relax not feeling stressed knowing we have time to spare.I (we) have to ask would it be possible to see andy d given a chance in one or 2 of the next few matches as he had a lot of offer that I don't see in a lavezzi, pal, biliga or a pastore.thank you for considering this option and kind regard's -Pablo@Mundo.Ap.s thank you again. Johnny (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 12:29 AM 0 Beautiful work on that second goal. Reminded me of a very famous Brazilian player who has become a little pudgy in his old age. Johnny (United States) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 12:25 AM 0 Andy D is a demigod. Bombonera (Kenya) Posted on 9/13/2013 at 12:11 AM 0 every week we are enjoying D'Allesandro goals, does it mean this guy deserves a call??
