@pablo.d
@leandro

When I was younger, I was more eager for my team to win. But then I find that life goes on without winning. Batistuta almost lost his starting spot to Crespo in 02WC. At the end he started all three matches but Argentina failed.

I still want my team to win, but I equally, if no much more, want to have good memory of games and players. I am a Vioa fan and I can still vividly remember the night I was watching Holland vs Italy in 2000 Euro. Italy rarely brought the ball passing the half line in the first 45 mins and Holland missed two penalties in regular time. Toldo, the GK of Italy and Viola, was the hero in that match. He was originally the second choice behind Buffon. But then Buffon was injured just few days before the tournament and Toldo got his chance to shine. Italy almost won the final. Eventually, the French won with a bit luck. What a darma!

leandro: sadly every manager of a team like Argentina will be judged on success and nearly success is not good enough just ask peckerman or bielsa.
i do agree winning is not easy as it requires so many thing to aline from form, injuries, the draw, refs and luck etc etc but at the end of the day its all about winning the world cup final ad any thing less for Argentina is a failure.
sure id like a 3-0 win in the final but id also be delighted with a 1-0 90th min own goal by the opposition to win the world cup as to win is every thing, just watch the teams who have won via p.k shootouts, do they celebrate any less for a hollow victory?-no and for all of time they have won a world cup and for me i don't care who the coach is as they will be judged on what happens in those 4 weeks of world cup finals.

@pablo.d, while of course the point is to win the World Cup.. saying it would mean nothing if we dont is a bit heavy.. no? Argentina was *feared* by other teams and *respected* for most of my life. These last few years the team lost quite a bit of that reputation.. people very quickly forgot how good we where.. While I am not saying we are back at 100%, Sabella has certainly gotten us in the right position to remind people what Argentina was and is all about. Winning will be great, and expected.. but come on.. winning the WC is not something that is easy, logical or likely for any team. There have been MANY great teams in history that where denied the cup. I think that semi-finals would be sorta ok, a disappointment but a decent run. Getting to the finals would be a move forward from our recent past, and winning it.. in Brasil.. would be spectacular. While we all want spectacular.. and Messi deserves it.. I wont be ashamed nor crucify Sabella if his fate with the national team ends up in similar terms as Estudiantes did. So far the team is winning and for fracks sake, winning pretty. I am sold.

@pablo.d, I did not rate Sabella better than Pep. I did not rate Estudiantes better than Barcelona. Even though he lost that match, by drawing in the last minute and eventually loosing in the extra time, he lost against best team in the world while the team was in top gear, having won almost all cups with the great Pep as coach. I was just pointing dont under estimate Sabella, hes not like our previous coaches, he knows the tactics, team chemistry and how to utilize maximum from a player.

Stopped believing in Argentina coaches long time back. They all come, shock and leave. Hope Sabella is from another school altogether. Problem is he has to win 2014 WC to prove me wrong. Nothing short will do!!

aslam: "Estudiantes almost won the match" at the end of the day they did not win, as they saying goes "it does not matter if you win by an inch or a mile as you have still won" more to the point all of this means nothing if Sabella does not win the world cup, not 2nd, 3rd or 4th, its a nasty games but their can only be one winner and naturally we all hope and wish it is sabella.

For all who does not believe in Sabella..!

Just remember the match between Estudiantes and Barcelona. Sabella surprised Gurdiola with his tactics and team chemistry. Estudiantes almost won the match. Just 2 minutes before the final whistle Barca drew And it was Messi who won the match in the extra time for Barca. That Barca was in super hot form, Ibra, Henry and Messi were playing upfront and the one and only "Pep as boss".

If Sabella can do it with mediocre players (Ya..Veron is an excellent player but he was in his last stages of his career), i am sure he is a great coach.

NB: Even though the team winning against big guns, the worrying thing is that Sabella find it difficult against weak teams, just check the performance against Venezuela, Bolivia,Peru and Saudi. The only lose and all the 3 draw came up against this weak teams..!!

I am eagerly waiting for Bolivia game. Where you can find out, what Sabella is having as a coach...!!!

On that note, Hats Off to Mascherano. He has really come the hard way for long and is now so important for the team. Lovely spirit.

Perfect. Yeah Banega kind of pisses folks off, but if that mentality is fixed once for all, might be an interesting prospect for the team spirit. Only time will tell. Cant imagine 12 months from now we are almost off to start, and still have so many things to fix!!

@ Deb, Banega is a talented player but hes so slow and can kill our counter attack games. As he lacks so much discipline , ive followed Banega , he makes tons of troubles with his team and personally thinks hes overrated. He even came drunk to training once,before scoring a goal against Barca , anyone can score against Barca . Winning the worldcup is not about only the players names .Its about team chemistry and DISCIPLINE , thats with spain in 2010 even though they have great players but look at Italy 2006 , Fabio Grosso kicked the germans out he was worth 3 millions. Germany 2010 were to be considered one of the weakest german sides in terms of big names but look how stars popped out . Its all about discipline and team chemistry , am very happy that Tevez isnt being called up cuz hes selfish and undisciplined . Look at how aguero higuain di maria and mascherano give there lives away for the national team they love it .Aguero once fought with mancini cuz he was injured and wanted to play for ARG , he traveled with the team but didnt play.Above all they all acknowledge messi as the leader , Tevez never did.

Okk. Would try to grab a highlight of that game soon then. So how are they building the back 4 then? Zabaleta, Garay, Fernandez seem to be confirmed. Hope Rojo is not who Sabella goes back to again!! :(

Coloccini is out with some broken bones in his back. Sometimes it hurts when you miss connection on a bicycle kick.

@ Deb it seems like your underestimating Argentina....we are currently ranked 3d in the world for good reason. Our defense has been playing with each other very often and are getting to know each other very well, same with our midfield and offense, we finally have good chemistry and the best offense in the world, some decent midfielders a solid keeper (when playing for Argentina) and a tall defense, we haven't lost a game since the venezuela game and the was the latter of the 2 games in first round of qualifying i believe.

Sabella has very specific plans for each team he faces, it seems like he always comes ready for it, TBH I'm not that worried, i believe that we haven't had any luck since 1990 in the world cup and (at the end there it was bad luck!) that we've been due for some already, i mean c'mon we lost the Copa America at home?! Unheard of! Plus we have the best player of all time in our team!

Messi says kill us all but we want to win the 2014 cup. but how?? we were not playing very badly in 2010 either, but out came the germans and off we went. 4 goals and no back four to stop the rout. just hope 2014 has a new coach and so a new thinking.

Whatsup guys!! Was just reading an article, a few minutes back, on how Reus (Germany) can outshine Messi in the 2014 world cup. Reasons cited as Germany being a much better team, attack and defense, and roaring squad of youngsters. AND this made sense to me, so posting it here. HEY GUYS, dnt u think it's time we start simulating the WC pressure on ourselves and take each match as some knockout stuff in Brazil. How long do we go with a below-than-average defense??? 1998, 2002, 2010 and so on... shame.
