Lionel MESSI scores twice for Barcelona

Lionel MESSI scored twice for Barcelona in their 4-0 destruction of AC Milan.

After having lost the first leg 2-0 in Milan, Barcelona knew they needed a minimum of two goals to have any chance of progressing to the Quarter Finals of the Champions League this season. Five minutes into the match, Lionel MESSI scored a fantastic goal to break the Milan back line. Five minutes before the end of the first half, MESSI was at it again, scoring another goal to give Barcelona a 2-0 lead heading into half time. Barcelona would add two more in the second half as they won 4-0 and advanced to the next round.

Cambiasso has been in steady decline since the 10-11 season.

In my opinion, Cambiasso is a pretty decent player.. but he is slow and now reaching his last years. In our thin midfield we need monsters, players that can cover a lot of ground quickly and never tire, that is why Gago and Masch are doing so well for us.

Zanneti I would call up in an instant. Not only does he deserve it for his long history with the national team (even as a sub, he should retire from us at the world cup).. he is also an incredible experienced and versetile player capable of playing any of the back 6 or so positions if we need him to. A real legend.

I think the draw was good for both of us, even though it was very very generous to your team .. You got the ONLY team I want to face !!

As you all mentioned Zanetti and Cambiasso are excellent players. But i dont think they will be in the NT for the world cup. Cambiasso could be very useful especially we dont have many better player in that position.I think Sabella knows very well about the team chemistry. So i believe Biglia or Rinauldo will be the option as DM subtitute.

Cambiasso and Zanetti can be very good subs.
Zanetti can be on both wing backs and DMC.
Cambiasso can play in the last 15 mins when the team is in lead. He is a DMC who can keep the ball well.

Man it makes me sad to watch Inter Milan..even though they lost on Agg watching Cambiasso and Zanetti and to see how friggin good they are and knowing that they won't be near the national team...it can hurt.

Barca winning the way they did
(i said this back in 2008) as well is a victory for football. For years leading up to 2008 ugly defensive/counter football was dominating Europe.
Then Pep's Barca came along and smashed Man utd (who love the 4-5-1 formation. I was like YES! does first pump. I was happy for messi but the style. What happened after was that alot of teams tried to emulate or at least respected their style. Then even when my beloved Inter knocked them out..they were written off "cycle is over"...how wrong they were. They stormed back and won it again!
Then again....When Chelsea beat them..everyone started praising counter/defensive football again...people were ready to declare that style outdated and dead. Barca's style reminds me alot of Argentina back in Pekerman/Bielsa and Basile to an extent. Peps tactics are heavily influenced by Bielsa. So thank you MESSI! those 2 goals wow!

The new Pope is Argentine! He supposedly beat the favorite Cardinal for the candidacy which was Brazilian! I hope he blesses his country with the World Cup in Brazil to make it 2-0!

So what did they keep saying for the past few weeks - Messi would never be as succesful aginst Italian clubs, Italian defense could not be subdued, tikitaka has reached expiry date, barca era is over etc etc etc..True, they all might have a valid point but still searching for those critcs since yesterday night and look how the media has taken u turn...LOL. The same writers of different publications and websites are showering accolades now.

Barca lost the spanish cup and maybe would not even reach the finals of champions league but they showed once again that their football is at a different level altogether. Afterall how many times does it happen in history that 3 all time great players play together in the same team at the peak of their careers combining to produce magic again and again.

For me the moment of the match was Villa's goal. It was heartening to see him back at such a crucial stage. I m sure all barca fans would have felt emotional seeing him and the team celebrating.

Hail Barca!!!!!

The control.. hot dam. Messi Zen Master. Team really stepped it up. Mascherano had many decisive interceptions (one led directly to a goal).. he is a beast when fighting in the midfield.. air balls in the box not so much, I think Sabella is wise not playing him as a CB. Messi.. always Messi.. Iniesta.. Villa.. Alves.. only weak spot in that team currently is Pedro and Xabi.. who are still decent even when not at their best. Epic comeback, I am glad skill overcame parked-bus-syndrome.. for the sake of art.

Frankly I think records in football go too far. People commented Messi hadn't scored in open play against Italians. Now this has been broken. But I can still comment that Messi still hasn't socre against Italians in away games. I remember some similar comments applied to the EPL teams as well several years ago. Such comments of course do not apply only to Messi. I don't think such comments do not convey much about players and football.

Look at Messi's first goal is just like playing video game ha ha ha. Seconds before he shot, there were 5 Milan's player around him... I mean really around him. They left no spaces within them but Messi still can release ball with high accuracy. I think with that space it's hard for anyone to kick hard.

Vamos Argentina.

I admit that I actually was a bit pessimistic with Barca's chance to come back. However I know that Messi hadn't score in open play vs Italian team and sooner or later it would happen. I also know that legends need a game like this to prove himself and that Messi is strong enough under pressure. I'm very happy and Messi's goals are fantastic esp the 1st goal.

@el principe: true, but i hope at that time Villa will already pass his peak due to his age. Barca win is also good for us even though we only have Messi and Mascherano and even Mascherano plays in different position in NT....

A former Spain coach said that Barca loss would have been bad for the national team of Spain. The victory is a boost for Spain national team. All of their key players played great in the victory. Spain definitely is our number 1 rival in the World Cup. For me Villa is their x factor. If Villa returns to his best and start for Spain, they would be extremely dangerous. Other than Villa, Spain are just a bunch of attacking midfielders (Mata, Iniesta, Xavi, Navas, Silva, Pedro, Fabregas, Isco) with no quality predator striker.

The 2 goals that Messi Scored today.....Its true that each assisted by Xavi and Iniesta and they should be applaud but if only one man could convert them to Goals its Messi because he still had few defenders infront of him after the assist. for example: the assist Villa got from Xavi is a more straight forward assist which cleared the defender and Villa had only the keep between him and the post. Taking nothing away from Villa it was a perfect strike and very important goal but Messi's goal was of a different class. Messi is the difference.

The quality of Messi's goals was genius ! He single handedly took the weight off of barca by tying the aggregate! I yelled so loud after the first golaso my neighbors came over to check on us! Lol
