@ Leandro so far Icardi has scored a couple of goals in the air and looks to be solid, but he is 19 there is no way of telling right now. But so far so good

I Disagree with Higuian not being good in the air, i mean besides Di Maria who crosses in for Real? And nobody crosses in for Arg.... he has scored several goals in the air (courtesy of Di Maria of course)

@leandro. DIMaria is a pure #7.....speed down the flank....crosses into the box...higuain is in no way a #7! He always plays up front and even if he receives the ball on the wing after a rotation he still doesn't fall under that definition of a 7..... Higuain is SOLID in the air too...his chances have been limited due to madrids style but people dont scored headers in the world cup with the quality that he did bouncing it passed a goal keeper without extreme skill and confidence...Greatest #7 ever garrincha...

There is one quality about Higuain that makes him not a 'pure'#9.. his aerial game is weak. Its his only real weakness as a player. He makes up for it with his footwork and movements off the ball.. which make him look like a #7 or #11. He is somewhere in between those two.. its just that compared to all our midgets, Higuain looks like Drogba.. but he is far from it. Crespo and Batistuta where FERROSIOUS in the air.. whats the last time Higuain scored off a header via a cross or corner? .. We need atleast one tall, strong aerial forward.. Having Palermo on the bench by Diego was one of his few good decision IMHO..
How is ICardi in the air? I saw his last goal was a header.. is that consistent with his abilities?

I mean Higuian plays with Ronaldo (whom i really don't like) but is incredibly talented and is in no way gonna be a main contributor, and then he plays with Messi the undisputed number one player in the world and possibly of all time, any other team he would be a traditional number 9 but with these 2 giants if he wants playing time..he can't be lol.

I'd have to agree Higuain is a 9. Certainly more mobile than a traditional 9, able to create space well. He was definitely a 9 when at River.

In Crespo's best year he scored 28 goals in 40 games for Lazio... palacio's best year in Europe was 21 goals in 33 games for inter Milan and is on pace to break that this year with 18 already...crespo's all time ratio of goals per game in Italy was .47 goals /game.... Palacio's is .42 goals/ game in Italy .....a poor man Crespo? You could say that....

@Jack. Higuain is a fox in the box and he is a hybrid but he is 9... Much like Crespo before him and batistuta before him...in today's game, with all the movement its hard to just identify a player to one position..but the front man in Real Madrid's 4-2-3-1 is a 9.....and in argentina's 4-3-3 is a false 9.... Either way, Gonzalo is a 9..

I don't fear losing players as well, but sometimes they come in handy .. so why take the risk ?

We won't be locking Icardi only, but he could be in the future plans as well !

Kenny G- His movement and abilities is not what I consider a 9. A 9 is a fox in the box. Just look at past 7's to Higuain, similar style of play. A 9 just is the box or around it searching. Higuain is it not. Not many 9's in the world any more. Players have turned hybrid.

ABS- Osvaldo and Icardi are 2 different stories. Sabella made a personal visit to Icardi. He never did that with Osvaldo.

And lets say he does join Italy... who gives a damn? I will never want to lock up a player just to cap him up. We are Argentina, we do not fear losing other player to other countries.

@ Jack!

1. I don't believe what player says anymore, I mean look at Osvaldo ! .. Sabella should lock Icardi !

2. Maybe Higuain isn't a true 9, but that's what he is for Argentina, and we do need a back up for him. That back up shouldn't be Palacio !

Palacio is no where near a 9.... Inter just don't have any pure bred scorers right now so Palacio is playing that position,

@ Jack i disagree with Higuian not being a 9, i believe earlier in his career he was always a number 9 it was just with the arrival of Ronaldo that he had to switch up his game. For Argentina i believe he plays more the characteristic of a number 9 when Messi slots into more of a number 10, although it has been seen Higuian playing as a 7 for Arg and those are the games where he kinda "fades" away

Palacio is a 7 than a 9.

There are differences from positions. 7,9,11. All different. Right now we do not have many 9's. Higuain and Palacio are not 9's.

Icardi already said he will turn down Italy. So it doesn't matter if he is should lock him down. No need to worry. Should he be called up because he is playing well? Sure, but just to lock him up to keep him away from Italy is not needed.

Icardi is a must, Palacio would help for Qualifiers, but I don't see him making the final list. There are better options.

Add to them Lamela and Pastore, Tino in place of Gago.

While I like Lavezzi as a supersub (due to the incredible speed and energy that he'd bring in the last 15 min of a tired game) his finishing leaves much to be desired. I haven't been watching PSG does anyone know if he has improved in that area?
When he was playing for Napoli his primary job was to attract all the defenders towards him and rattle the opposing team's defensive system while Cavani and (to a lesser extent) Hamsik would do the finishing.

At #9...I would put palacio behind higuain and milito ( when healthy) and also lavezzi, who has been playing the #9 under sabella when Gonzalo was hurt or when he is substituted...Palacio is a poor mans Herman Crespo... A poacher with a nose for goal ....he might deserve a call up while milito is hurt...

I believe Icardi is going to replace Higuain sooner or later. And you know Palacio is only behind Messi and Aguero in shot Accuracy..!!

I think its important we have a bench #9 that can head.. parked buses and hail marry last minute winning minutes where made for that kind of striker.. currently we have none with aerial threat.
