Alejandro SABELLA on Mauro ICARDI

Alejandro SABELLA spoke about Mauro ICARDI and hinted that he could be included in one of the upcoming lists for Argentina.

In an interview with Fox Sports, SABELLA stated that he met with Mauro ICARDI and said that the first thing he asked the player was what he wanted to do. ICARDI's answer was that "he wants to play on the Argentina National Team" was what SABELLA was quoted as saying.

"Obviously he's in line to being called-up. It depends on his form and our matches, we'll see when is the moment (for him to be called-up). I didn't promise him anything, but I assured him that he's going to be looked at and has a chance of being called-up."

When asked if ICARDI will be included in the next list for the World Cup Qualifiers, here was SABELLA's answer:

"We'll see if he's called up for the Qualifiers, he could be on the upcoming list or the one after it. I'd prefer to be moderate, but he's a player that interests me."

The next list for the World Cup Qualifiers will be released on March 7.

@Istiaque:

Totally agree, and I don't get why would player would still want to join them .. Specially when they are playing at a better team, like Napoli !

Sampdoria revelation Mauro Icardi has confirmed that he wants an international future with Argentina and not Italy.

Icardi, 19, was born in the South American country but has the necessary paperwork to qualify for Azzurri selection.

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has admitted that the striker was a player he was keeping an eye on, but Icardi has rejected the option of wearing the blue jersey.

“I’m very grateful to Italian football for the opportunity it has given me,” the youngster told Il Secolo XIX.

“I’d also like to thank Prandelli for the nice words he expressed about me, but I have to be honest and sincere.

“I’m Argentine, I feel Argentine and I’ve always dreamed of wearing the shirt of my nation. To actually do that would be the maximum for me.”

Icardi, wanted by Inter and Napoli, has eight goals in 19 Serie A games so far this season.

I just hope Icardi and Campagnaro don't join Inter. At this moment any club is better than Inter...a spoiled ship!

@miskan
Di Maria and Messi are given free roles in the oppenonet's half. I think 4-2-2-2 is better description, with F4 being 2-2, in particular, di Maria-Messi and Aguero-Higuain.

Let's hope Sabella proves to be a smarter coach than his predecessors by selecting 2 teams for the next qualifiers. First team plays in Buenos Aires, second team travels directly to La Paz to get used to the height and oxygen level.

If the same team that plays in Buenos Aires also plays in La Paz we will lose for sure. There's enough talent for 2 squads. Icardi, Lamela, Costa and Cabellero should be called. Attack in BA and counter attack in La Paz and we'll have a chance to bag 6 points from these matches.

Actually not true Fanfrom78...There was no Argentines on the 82 Italian team. 34,38,06 there were but not 82. But I could be wrong, if there were, who was it? Just curious.

I hope to see Icardi called for the upcoming qualifiers and used if it is just as a 90th minute sub. I'm sick of seeing Argentine born players stolen from us by the Italians.
Icardi is also strongly linked to a summer move to Inter Milan.
