DiMaria was the man of the match until he came off...

@Kenneth, Elo ratings says they are. Most accurate ratings there are.

@Leonardo, the final pass was simple but getting to the position wasn't. Virtually every single one of our counterattacking goals during this qualification have involved Di Maria. Even Messi tends to dawdle too much on counters these days. You only think he's suspect defensively cause you're viewing him as a MF. For a winger, which I classify him as and he's really the only forward we have that adds width (Lavezzi drifts inward too much), he adds a ton defensively. e.g breaking up opposing teams counters when we earn a set piece. He adds far more defensively than any of our other forwards.

@Matadores, You saw a completely different game I did. Credit where its due, offencibly Di Maria was great, but MOTM is too much, one assist was just a side pass my grandma could do, nothing special. He did bring the ball up great from midfield. But Sweden gave us a ton of space, so I take it with a grain of salt. In the first 6 minutes he got two assists and also gave the ball away real dumb and risky leading to two goal opportunities for Sweden.. I still prefer a real playmaker with pause. Then defensibly, the whole team pressured, especially Kun, but DiMaria was the laziest player on the pitch, he was standing a lot of the tie ball watching between two players (ie not marking either one) and he would not follow their runs passed the 40 yard line.. I still think he is a liability in the back.. phenomenal on the counter attack.. but his position is risky in defense.

Di Maria easily my MOTM. Instrumental in 2 goals, should have won a stone cold pk with that cross-handball. Great defensively.

Messi played well but frustrated in the 2nd half of the 2nd half after his goal was wrongly disallowed.

Gago was good but I'd still don't trust him against teams that press well.

Zab finally performed well with the NT. I think he mostly struggles against quick, tricky players. He's good against these Euro teams.

It was surprisingly easy to create stuff on the edge of Sweden's PK box. They're a top 10 team but seemed very weak defensively even when they had plenty of players back defensively and set.

Federico and Romero big fails on our test against tall, set-piece Euro type teams.

The best thing about Sabella's tactics is that we seem to give up far fewer dangerous counterattacks than we have for years. It's been a huge problem for us for at least 10 years.

Starting 11 did magnificent! DiMaria and Mascherano stood out the most. Gago owned the midfield. All the subs confused the gameplay a lil bit. Romero had an off day.

Boring 2nd half. Lost a lot of directness with the Di Maria - Montillo sub. Would have liked to see Lamela come on rather than Montillo. Rest of constant subbing chopped up the match. Team was forcing too much through Messi in the 2nd half after his dink was kept out (not sure if it was though). Meh, friendlies.

Didn't see nearly enough of Ansaldi in his proper position. Banega made a couple mistakes and looked tentative. Di Santo is already blooded as far as I know. Why not Icardi or Lamela during the last 2 minutes?

PENALTY TO BRAZIL!!! Luis Fabiano breaks the offside trap but like Neymar before him he can't get the ball into a goalscoring position. Ronaldinho picks up the ball on the wing and the cross hits Wilshere's hand. Harsh, but a big chance...
We deserve that penalty it was handball

It's incredible how valuable Di Maria is to this team and yet some wanted him out. Nobody can give us what he does in counterattacking, long range shooting, defensive pressure, unpredictability. All over the field. Only maybe Lamela could come in and have a similar impact.
