To be honest i will find a 1-0 or a 2-0 win more impressive then a 4-2 or 5-3 win, our offense is established we have the best and most expensive attacking force in the world BY FAR, if our defense can show improvement i will be more then happy, as Sweden and especially IBRA (who has had so many negative comments to say about Barcelona and Co recently) will have something to prove

Guys! firstly, all the best for today's game. Winning is a must. Winning is a habit.

In modern football, you need at least 7 player to defend. Ideally you get 2 banks of 4 players across the pitch.

In even simpler words, in football there are only 2 ways of the game:

1> When you have the ball
2> When you do not have the ball.

I guess we are mostly talking about number 2 here. The "team" has to defend. You need high energy, skill and commitment to defend. Di Maria tracks back for Real Madrid. Every Mourinho winger does. So, we leave Messi and Higuain/Kun for the counter attack, rest all helps to defend.

On number 1, out best bet is fab4. So lets keep them and try to make those 4 also help in defending. Sabella knows it (if we know, he knows it too :))

Plan B and Messi? well as Mik said, if there is no Messi, forget about the WC and enjoy it as long as it lasts. The rest may even win it for us, but chances are low. Not everyone wins a WC, the one who wins has a reason - some top players and a LOT of luck! So good luck :), the wait has been long.

Nothing here as a Surprise its still the Same This is our PLAN A Guys this is Sabellas prime Eleven Its gud its been working for us till now so no complaints But hope this year we can see the PLAN B by slowely trying new players in certain positions. I guess Sabella will do it, But What about Messi,I know its harsh but for now if there is NO MESSI NO WC all knows that its the truth. Only thing we can pray for is MESSI playing all the matches for us like we had MARADONA in 86 WC There is no alternative its truth because its impossible to find one for Messi we have to entirely change the Formation, Sure Sabella will have that in Mind. So no pblms he is an Intelligent coach.

I like Campagnaro,I just prefer him playing at CB. And I agree with you elpipita, we need to see Perruzi and Ansaldi get some minutes.

@Buleprint,

I agree, Campagnero is a beast. First, he is not too old. Samuel is old an is still a tank. So is Zanetti. So was Maldini. Puyol is pushing it and he is still a warrior. What matters is performace. Campagnero ROCKED it at the last Champions, he has done from good to very well the few minutes he was asked to play for the national team and statistically he (along with Mascherano) where given the TOP defensive interseption #'s in all of Europe. As @elPrincipe has said, he is a very good complement to DiMaria on the left flank because of his toughness, defensive conservatism and is as good in the air as Fede and Garay. I would start him every game over Zaba. If Ansaldi is to make a starting role for the team, he should take Zabaletas spot as they are both the more offensive options. Stick Camp on the right and the new kid on the left. Done.

"If most big teams can defend with two holding midfielder, why can't we?"

Here is where I disagree, and its the whole FAB4 issue. While most teams defend with 2 fixed def. mids. They dont solely rely on them, atleast two other players (more offensive) run their butts off to help out. If you watch Chelsea, Mata puts in a lot of effort defending. If you watch City, Silva is always busting a nut defending. DiMaria *CAN* do this, but his ego, immaturity, and hands off Sabella approach with him cause him to not be defensibly disciplined or sacrifice. He DOES NOT MARK ever. Last few games his poor defensive awareness cause at least 5 serious dangers down his flank, either from sloppy tackes at the wrong place and time, or being lazy and letting his midfielder run past and swamp out Rojo with constant 2-v-1 etc, etc. Most teams defend AS A TEAM. Aguero is a horrible defender, Pipita is decent since he hustles, Messi is good but its stupid to use him that way.. so thats one too many luxury players in my book. Thats why Lavezzi makes such an impact for us as he works hard and is scrappy.

And no one is asking for 3 destroyers, the Sensible3 people want Masch (a destroyer), Gago (a balanced mid) and Jonas/Biglia/etc/etc to be the other complementing balanced midfielder. We need more players in there that can help out a little on both ends. Total footballers. This is why Pastore will never get into the N11, was he a complete player (Like Xavi.H, Fabregas, etc) he would have slipped right in.

Campaganro is a good defender.Hard tackler, great in the air and he is not slow. Can you remember Napoli vs Chelsea 2nd leg...?Chelsea was trying to attack from the flanks and making crosses in the box.At 2nd half they stopped attacking from right, bcoz it was hard to beat Campagnaro.Instead they was attcking Aronica and Cannavaro from left and they won the match.

If most big teams can defend with two holding midfielder, why can't we?Then what is the benefit of having Jefecito?Unied defend with Carrick & Cleverly, city use toure & barry,Madrid does it with khedira and Alonso..Do you know alonso was dribbled past 150+ times by his opponents at 2011-12 campaign and madrid was the champion. It,s not about having an extra defencive minded player,it's about to know how to defend..Batista used 3 defencive midfielders(banega,cambiasso,mascherano)..What was the result???
I remember how people was insulting Batista for using 3 defencive midfielders. Now they asking for another defencive player(Jonas/biglia).
I see di maria playing for madrid...I can assure he can defend alot better than favaourites like Iniesta,Silva,Mata,Ozil...

well that's too bad, I was really looking forward to seeing what Ansaldi has to offer (he did pretty solid in the friendly games against spain and poland if memory serves). Then again Sabella might surprise us and introduce him in the second half either compagnero or zabaleta fail to perform (remember that ansaldi can play both flanks).
I would also love to see Gino Peruzzi get some minutes (he did a great job in the friendlies against brazil and is now famed for being one of neymar's toughest adversaries).

I just read that Zabaleta will be on the right and Campagnaro will be on the left. Di Maria will be on the left side as his natural attacking midfielder left. Sabella did this because Zabaleta is more attacking minded than Campagnaro. It is too risky to put Di Maria and Zabaleta, both of them are attacking minded on the same side. So Di Maria will mostly partner Campagnaro. Zabaleta will help the attack from the other side.

Btw, Brazil seem to copy us or I should say get back to the original. Scolari, the winning coach of 2002, will use Oscar-Ronaldino-Neymar-Luis Fabiano.

One of the Sabella's works in improving our defense is the need to start taller players. Even the best looking team of all time, the current Barcelona has a weakness, the defensive set pieces.

I would be happier if he gives a chance to Ansaldi as he's better offensively than Campagnaro, but Campagnaro will offer us more security when it comes to set pieces. At least now we can rely on Campagnaro, the twin towers Federico and Ezequiel, Higuain, and maybe Di Maria in defensive set pieces.

I read on interview than Ansaldi will definitely get some minutes. Maybe we'll see him in the second half.

My prediction is 2-1 for Argentina.

ansaldi should get regular chance in national team. fantastic four is a good option for attack. but they should put lamela at the side banch for replacement.organized defence can make a team champion. so we like to see argentina as a good organized balance team. gago and mascherano is a good choice in midfield.
finally, argentina will be next world champion.

@ Pino Campagnaro is not fast, but man he is one of the few traditional TRUE Argentinian defenders left out there, the whole "you're just not gonna pass me" mentality is imbedded into him, that's why i love him unfortunately he's just a little to old, Zaba plays great for Man City but poorly for the N/T all in all, i think we can finally breathe when it comes to the back (to easily tho!)

The fab4 have to play defense in order for this to work.Especially Aguero and DiMaria on the flanks.

i agree totally and friendlies are suposed to be for trying new things/players and this is a problem saballa has is his lack of experimanting when the opportunity arises in friendies.

Can't say I'm surprised. Yes, tough opposition but it is a friendly. I'd rather Ansaldi start. Better to learn things now then in the WC.

I'm not crazy about this thing of starting Zabaleta on the left when Rojo is out. Then you have Zabaleta playing at LB (normally a RB) and Campagnaro playing at RB (normally a CB). Then again Sable plays Rojo at LB when he normally plays at CB!

Geez, can't we just see a LB play at LB it's just a friendly.
