Alejandro SABELLA's best list up to date

On Tuesday, Alejandro SABELLA announced his list of players who will take part in the match against Sweden on February 6 and what a list!

I would go as far as saying that this is SABELLA's best list yet. Five players who were part of the squad for the match against Saudi Arabia did not make it this time around. Fabian MONZON, Ricardo ALVAREZ, Eduardo SALVIO, Tino COSTA and Marcos ROJO have all been excluded from the latest squad. The reason for ROJO's exclusion is because he is injured and is expected to be out for 3 weeks.

Beginning with the goalkeepers, Willy CABALLERO has been in excellent form and is not included, which I would say is one of the biggest disappointments of this list. However, when talking about Argentina, if one of the biggest let downs is that a goalkeeper has not been included, it must mean it's a good squad of players.

Alejandro SABELLA has called on 6 defenders. The newest inclusion being Cristian ANSALDI. It's very possible that the two CB's would be Federico FERNANDEZ and Ezequiel GARAY. Pablo ZABALETA could start as the right back and we could see Hugo CAMPAGNARO replace him in the second half, as has been in the case for the past few matches. That would leave Cristian ANSALDI as left back. With Clemente RODRIGUEZ not getting any younger and ROJOS out injured, this could be a great opportunity for ANSALDI to play well and possibly put some pressure on ROJO for that left back spot.

For the midfielders, Javier PASTORE remains out of the team. Erik LAMELA, who I know many (myself included) would have liked to have been included, is left out. That, for me, is the biggest disappointment. However, we did start with Jose SOSA not only being a regular member of the squad, but a regular starter. In that case, SABELLA has evolved, therefore, it is possible that LAMELA will be included in future lists.

Those who wanted Ever BANEGA to make the team, their wish has been granted. Fabian RINAUDO, Augusto FERNANDEZ and Enzo PEREZ also make the list. The dominant midfield duo of Javier MASCHERANO and Fernando GAGO have obviously been included. Angel DI MARIA, who is part of the fantastic four, makes the list. The biggest inclusion (in a positive way) is that of Walter MONTILLO. Anyone who watched the second leg of Argentina vs. Brazil of the Superclasio de las Americas will agree he was one of the better players of the match. Should he be given a chance to play, he could be a real threat going forward from midfield.

The forwards does not include Lisandro LOPEZ and I think at this point, Javier PASTORE has better chance at making this team. Franco DI SANTO, who played against Saudi Arabia is included and Nicolas GAITAN also makes a return to the team. The other forwards are Lionel MESSI, Gonzalo HIGUAIN, Ezequiel LAVEZZI and Sergio AGUERO.

Not everyone who made the list will take part in the match and it's very likely that most have just been brought in for training purposes. But if even one of these players who are rarely given a chance with the team (MONTILLO or ANSALDI) can do well, they may earn themselves a place in the next squad. Argentina's next round of qualifiers is in March and some of these players could find themselves part of that list.

@ivanguar. Tactician Sabella seems to be doing mighty well with his selection of players. We are now also rated #3 on FIFA rankings to say the least. His core players are doing a magnificent job and creating serious chemistry with one another. I was very satisfied with his players and even more so to see these new players get a chance.

Di Santo????? Gaitan?????? ANsaldi?????? Gago????? Federico Fernandez?????? Banega????? Rinaudo?????? Sabella loves mediocre players. Argentina has Coloccini, Cambiasso, Lamela, Conca, Lucho Gonzales, Biglia, Monzon, Pillud, Milito...all them top players out of the national team. But Rojo, Mascherano, Lavezzi and many other questionable quality players make the starters very often. Sabella loves bad football.

Of course I would chose Pipita, but to know that Licha will cost a fraction of what Pipita's would cost, then both would be a win win choice !!

@pablo.d:

he is buying his players, but his players need few years before they achieve something. As a Liverpool fan, I can't wait for few years to win something or qualify for Champions League .. It is just wrong !!

As for Licha, then you get to chose one, Pipita or Licha ?

@pablo.d:

They were so close to sign him, but they didn't reach an agreement, coz Juve want a loan first. (That's what I've read) .. But anyway, they signed Anelka for 5 months now, so Licha won't join Juve. Hope he joins Liverpool though !!

As for Biglia, then once he move to a bigger club, and prove him self, he'll for sure take over at the NT.

I think sabella is starting to form the team for worldcup he is starting with the vision to make argentina a world beator team. Its looks like he consulted with good managers in this winter break. I defienetly realise he will give chances to many players in this year.

I agree that Biglia is a better player than Banega. He is faster, simpler on the ball and more disciplined. I feel they are both about equal creatibly.

I think Biglia should be on the squad instead of Banega hes coming up catching the attention of big clubs.
This is just my opinion but how would it be in 4-4-2 if it was 2 defensive type players in the center midfield and two fast attacking players gaitan and di maria on RM and LM. I know Gago can recuperate but not as defensive minded as Biglia i could be wrong here but hey just a thought.

Tevez has already acknowledged he is behind others for a spot on the NT. As mentioned previously he has shown absolutely ZERO interest in playing for the NT in any interviews he has given for close to the last year. I am a huge Carlitos fan, but anybody still calling for Tevez to play for the NT just isn't listening to the most important person: Carlos Tevez.

Love or hate Tevez, the fact is that he is BEHIND Aguero, Messi, and Higuain. Those 3 have consistently outperformed Tevez with no drama and are rooted into Sabellas squad. So Tevez is fighting a spot with Lavezzi and company for a bench/sub role. I agree the guy is a tank, but as a 4th string sub I would rather we try happy, non-premadona, youthful talents. If one of the Fab 4 gets hurt bad, then and only then would I think Tevez is worth the gamble in the locker room.

I will be so pissed to see Licha at Juve, but it looks almost a done deal. However, the only positive thing about it is..
If Licha keep scoring then it'll be very hard for Sabella to ignore him anymore !!

The report goes on to suggest that the Red Devils have sent scouts to watch Garay several times this season already and have been greatly impressed with the defender—so much so that they want to put through a deal in the current winter transfer window.

Finally the back line looks strong. Midfield I feel we need a) another destroyer (Guinazu, Jacob, etc) and fresher alternatives to Banega (who never convinced), right now the only midfielder on that list I trust (besides Masch) is Gago, and he is injury prone due to his commitment. I would like to see polifunctional options in the squad such as Biglia, Gutierrez, Mi~no, etc. I would also like a solid bench playmaker in case Messi gets hurt (Aimar, Lamela, Pastore).. havent seen much of Montillo, perhaps he is the answer although I feel Aimar with his experience or Lamela with his versatility and tricks would serve us better.

Sweden is a STRONG team with something to prove. They have an inspired Zlatan that will test our center backs, fast wing players that will test our slow Zabaleta and are killers at set pieces, which has been our weakness.. we dont have any commanding #9 aerially to help out in corners, our mid is all midgets so we only have two solid centerbacks to defend us.. risky. Is Ansaldi good in the air? Campagnero should start IMHO.

Remeber this Sweden team was loosing 0-4 vs Germany and came back to TIE the game on the second half. To me they are one of the most underrated teams in Europe.

Most of us we'll be very happy that Sabella is making better choices in picking players. His predecessors made so many mistakes in selecting the right squad. It started with Pasarella ignoring Redondo for the WC 1998 and Bielsa refusing to pair Crespo and Batistuta upfront and Valencia duo Ayala and Pellegrino at the back. Maradona ignored Zanetti and Cambiasso...

I am now hopeful that Sabella will indeed make the right choices come the WC 2014. Lamela is making progress, Peruzzi is coming up and Lisandro Lopez should guarantee goals. Maybe even the experienced Lucho will make a comeback. Given the fact that recent U-20 squads fail to win anything after a string of successes since 1995 until the gold medal in Beijing at the Olympics, 2014 has to be our year. Messi will be 27 at the WC, normally the age for a player to be at his best. In 2018 Messi will be 31 and probably too old to carry the team to a victory. Still we have a long way to go to be able to defeat Germany, Spain, Italy and Brazil at the WC stage, but at least the squad is shaping up to what it should be!

Although some of the players in the list does not perform well at their club recently but I like the idea of choosing Montillo, Ansaldi, Gaitan to be in the team. looking forwards to see what will happen after this friendly game

@ Chris Peruzzi is like 20, i think he is already a fantastic defender and is going to be world class as he can play just about any defensive position. But because he is 20 and Zaba and Camp take up our RB and Rojo and (hopefully Ansaldi) take up our LB i don't think we'll see him for a while.
