U20: Argentina vs. Bolivia

The U20 match between Argentina and Bolivia has just started.

ITURBE and CENTURION don't start the match. As I'm typing this, CAVALLARO has had a goal disallowed as he was adjudged to have touched the ball with his hand, but on replay it looked chest. He has received a yellow card. Here's the starting 11:

BENITEZ; AGUIRRE, MAGALLAN, VALLE, Lucas RODRIGUEZ; ROMERO, FERNANDEZ, CAVALLARO, LANZINI; VIETTO and MELANO.

Find that on twitter, That was what Trobbiani said a couple months ago:

Trobbiani - 07/2012: "Con cinco gambeteadores en un equipo, hoy sos campeón del mundo". O tal vez no. Se agiganta la figura de Sabella.

I know Pablo, besides Spanish Football is never good for comparisons. Simeone was River's coach when they finished last on the table, one of the reasons they eventually had to play in la B. And he had given them a championship right before that tragic last position occured. He also coached Racing and was just horrible. An extremely irregular guy in real life situations, ie: teams with monetary problems and full of divas. Not saying that's the case of our youth team but... but yeah, that's the case. Centurión is a big deal already and Iturbe was misnamed the next Messi, and AFA is rotten to the core. Simeone doesn't stand a chance.

Now that Grondona has a legitimate coach for the NT in Sabella, he only has the youth system available to dole out favors. God forbid that the AFA would actually have a capable staff for the NT and the youth squads at the same time.

No known names. The new coaches MUST come from teams with appropriate youth teams, ie: Vélez. Take one of those coaches and watch the magic happen. They already know what they have to do, and they do it right.

Not very great players can become a great manager. But AFA can encourage ex charismatic player to take over and start coaching the youth team. This will be their starting point to develop their managerial skill. Do not go directly to manage the N/T; although we can't expect much from the retired player to coach and develop youth teams. Ayala,Sensini even Redondo are worth choice into taking this role.

"People like Ayala, Batistuta, Veron etc. should be involved in youth set up"
why? because thay were good players, would this not be the same as the 86 lot that have currently been at the helm..
the only ones who should be in the set up are coaches who are up and coming like sim or experienced like peckerman other wise we are no better off.

stability and idea is key to youth development. These people clearly have no idea and tranquility whatsoever!
People like Ayala, Batistuta, Veron etc. should be involved in youth set up. The whole structure seems pretty messed up

Ale Klappenbach ‏@aleklap

Ayer el sub-20 de Argentina cambió de vestuario y de banco de suplentes xq había perdido los partidos anteriores...todo dicho.

Yesterday Argentina sub-20 changed the locker room and sub bench because they lost the first two games... Everything is said.

TYpical of Bilardo's crap.

I know, I agree with you in everything. I just disagree with other users blaming -partially or totally- the players. They'll move on and grow, but Trobbiani and AFA's leadership won't.

Just for the people who don't remember/haven't watched Batista's U20 of doom: in all the matches they played in this same competition, they were ALWAYS 1-0 down by less than a minute after the match started. I'm not kidding at all. That goes to show how what we're seeing today is the obvious conclusion of what we saw back then.

Didn't watch a single minute of this match. Everything is just so predictable.

msi2: I remember Batista's U20. They couldn't even send a proper corner kick to the area. I particularly disliked Bella who seemed uncapable of the most basic passing. And it wasn't Bella's fault--it's none of these kids' fault. They're under 20! What do they know about proper tactics?

And what do Trobbiani and all the other dummies from the so called '86 generation know! Damn Grondona, damn him, his son and Bilardo to hell!

imo, Tocalli will get some phone calls quickly after this tournament to take over the youth again, even though he's just recently took the job at Argentinos Juniors because we cant go on like that for another 2 years cycle like that.

Just a sum-up of the epic disaster the 86 generation has been for the yout NT:

It started in 2009 with Batista leading the sub-20 to an absolute disaster, finished penultimate of the tournament. That team had Salvio has the one who ran the show alone.

Two months later, the same year, José Luis Brown did acceptable by qualifying the sub-17 (with the famous Araujo) and doing OK in the subsequent WC in Nigeria only being beaten by Colombia.

Late in 2009, come the turn of Oscar Garré's sub-15 and failed miserably in the tournament by finishing penultimate in the first round of the tournament!!!! The tournament had two rounds!

First cycle finished

Second one started in 2011.

First with Walter Perazzo's sub-20 replacing Batista. If oyu remember that was the first we saw Iturbe. The team maanged to qualify for the WC but failed to the Olympics Games. The team played horrible, with an extremely negative football. The following WC was similar depending on an exploit by an injured Lamela!!

Oscar Garré took a couple months later the sub-17 (his former sub-15 in 2009). While he managed to qualify not brilliantly but at least we could say he did the job, the subsequent WC of the same category was such an humiliation (just look at the highlights of the game against Japan on youtube if you manage to find them) you just wished we didnt qualify.

Late in 2011, come in Miguel Lemme's sub-15 (mainly the players born in 1996). Unlike Garré 2 years ago he managed to qualify to the second round with just a minor issue, losing the game of the round 4-0 against Uruguay. The second round, we lost twice against Brazil 4-2 and Colombia 3-2, only won against Uruguay 1-0. So it's very mixed bag and yet despite that, we could say he performed better than most his collegues (except José Luis Brown).

Third cycle of the Bilardo's led train wreck era.

Currently we are assisting to the meltdown of the current sub-20 led by Trobbiani (advised by Bilardo to be brought in place of Walter Perazzo). IMO compared to the last two sub-20 in 2009, led by Batista, and the one 2011 led by Perazzo, that one had more potential, but definitely potential alone isnt enough. The team could even out of the tournament without a single win at home!!!!!!

In two months frm now we should Lemme's sub-17 (still at home).

That's it!

Regardless of the improvement in the 2nd half, not being able to win against Bolivia at home is truly astonishing... Just ridiculous.

Kenneth thats what happens when there are brazilian and uruguayan refs in charge of the match. I sincerely agree about our great 2nd half but that can be my prideful optimism.

We deserved to win and the last minute penalty that came moments before a brilliant Vietto crossbar was heartbreaking. Take that and wrap it around the fact that Argentina was seconds away from completing a comeback that was highly unlikely and I'm at a loss for words.

Put the Trobianni and AFA and lousy youth system excuses aside and I think we improved a TON. And we shouldn't forget that Trobbiani changed 6 starters for this match. At least in my eyes, I can't help but forgive him a bit (and I despised him last match).

What we have to do now is play our final match with dignity and finish the tournament with pride. Whats done is done. The players need to take the confidence from todays second half and give a Colombia a run for their money. Vamos Argentina. lets not forget that we aren't "Completely" disqualified yet. Before you say anything remember that there was absolutely no hope at the beginning of this match and the team showed the potential that they DO have. Vietto's goal was AMAZiNG

Just watched the game, great 2nd half from Argentina 2 goals a couple of shots off the post. Really the ref robbed us..i mean a very clear handball in the box against Bolivia where Centurion was dribbling and it wasn't called. Then on the other end Bolivia gets a penalty via hand ball.
