U20 Highlights: Argentina loses first match

Argentina got off to a bad start at the South American Championship, losing 1-0 to Chile.

The match started with Argentina applying some pressure on the Chileans. LANZINI, ITURBE, CENTURION, RUIZ and VIETTO looked very lively. LANZINI missed a great chance as he was one on one with the goalkeeper but his shot went wide. After that, it was mostly downhill.

Chile scored off a set piece and the team went down hill. However, Argentina did catch a break as Chile received a red card in the first half, but even at that, Argentina couldn't take advantage. In what was a physical match by the Chileans, they received a second red card in the second half. But even at that, Argentina couldn't convert. The goalkeeper BENITEZ was not at fault at the goal and made a big kick save to keep his team in the match in the second half.

As attack minded as this team was, there no was cohesiveness. ITURBE tried to dribble around way too many players, LANZINI had a bad game (that miss, which you will see in the video below, I don't know how he didn't score that) and just no real balance.

Argentina's next match is on Friday against Paraguay.

@ Eranho Who cares? I mean yes some people...very few people have their idiotic opinion of how Messi isn't even in the top 3 in the world purely because he is small l, or doesn't play in the premier league or for racist issues like he is Argentinian, the great thing about Messi is when critized he always comes back. Example 2009 champions league final scored against Man U with a header! When said he was to selfish he led his team in assists 3 years ago, i mean the very small very ignorant percentile will always be there, like the saying goes. "Haters gonna Hate" i would disregard these comments or types of articles out there and just ignore them, it's like when a LA Lakers fan says Lebron James is terrible at basketball, which simply does not make any sense.

does any of you guys know how to take down a website . if you do, please take out this webiste by any means necessary(viruses). look at the peace of shit they wrote about messi . i was outraged and i m looking for an hitman to assasinate this writer.

""Lionel Messi had a magical 2012. The Barcelona superstar, who scored a record-breaking 91 goals in the last calendar year, topped it with a fourth straight Ballon d’Or. But the Argentine can never better these performances again. The best is over for Lionel Messi.

The Argentine has ‘Planet-Z’ in the deepest exaltation in his horoscope making him, arguably, the greatest footballer of his generation. His personal planets are in Taurus and Gemini. While Taurus blesses him with extraordinary stamina and endurance, Gemini is responsible for his dexterity and versatility.

Will he be the greatest player ever? No way! Legendary players who have won laurels for their country had better planetary configurations in their horoscopes, but Messi only has ‘Planet-Z’ exalted. His horoscope ensures he would be one of the most decorated players ever in club football,. He would, however, fall short in international competitions. He will not be able to guide his country to victory in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. And hence, he cannot be called the ‘Greatest of All Time’. He will never be able to better Brazilian Pele, countryman Maradona or even Spain’s Iker Casillas.Messi is now going through a tough phase of Saturn, and it will last the end of 2014. This would be a detrimental and excruciatingly painful period for him. He was brilliant in 2012, but couldn’t win a major tournament with his team. Messi will not be able to inspire Barcelona to major title wins in 2013-14 either.

Messi has also had the upper hand in his rivalry — the greatest in modern football — with Portugal and Real Madrid showman Cristiano Ronaldo. But, perhaps, Ronaldo will have the last laugh when they square up in 2014 World Cup in Brazil."" - greenstone lobo

watched the game and it was disgraceful. No need for the highlights, or should I say the lowlights.

It seems nowadays the youth players are more concern to their future and playing in big clubs in Europe. So sad to see the young boys play individually with lack of team spirit and joy of the game. The main interest are to becoming the "next Messi". God saves Argentina

I woke @ 4.15am to see this fuckingly disappointing match.
Iturbe may be out of form but the coach and the geniuses behind the coach selection seems to be out of this world. God help Argentina!!

Sadly to say, Argentina is the worst team I've seen so far in the competition... They have a lot of the best players In my opinion but the worst flow and idea for the game... I was cursing trobbianni quite a bit as I watched... Obviously the selfishness of so many of the forwards isn't his fault but the attack is poorly thought out... The Paraguayans defended ridiculously well but Argentina had nothing to return to them. They need to sort this out and the defenders besides being very clueless thoughout the game seemed amazingly tired at the end it was embarrassing.

Funny how halfway through the chile game I detested how vietto was playing due to his invisibility and pouty face while I praised players like iturbe... Now vietto seems to be the only one with any idea (with or without the goal) while players like iturbe make WAY too many mistakes and become increasingly frustrating to watch...

Trobbianni sort it out or prepare to be sacked ):

In 2 months from now, these jokers will be gone hopefully. I'm saying in 2 months because there will be the sub-17 equivalent playing and most likely failing like their predecessors.

The only reason that Argentina didn't lose 5-1 was because of brilliant goalkeeping by Benitez.

This team has no plan.. worst defense ever. Iturbe out of form. Embarrassing, I ca't see a team for the future. Whats the use of individuals if they don't know how to perform in a team. Failure

Players are OK but Trobbiani, like his predecessors, blows big time.

My advice: forget about these phoney teams until AFA gets some real work going on. Ten minutes of today's Argentina-Paraguay was enough for me to turn the TV off.

nothing has changed with the leadership of the afa and because of this we end up with the youth set up being what it is today.
get on the phone afa and call mr peckerman today, beg and grovel please to get him back.

Man I was so disappointed with this match. We have a lot of great individual talent, but like the senior team, not great collective idea....hopefully we can figure it out for the next match..

Did anyone else notice that we have a little too many left footed players going up?

In the first half, when i saw Iturbe trying to shoot at 35m from the goal, i shut down my stream because i knew how this was going to end. Tired of that crap as far as i'm concerned.

IMO i think we need to have a double 5 to truly let the offense have as much freedom as they want much like we do with the Senior team. Personally i would rather see Ruiz instead of Lanzini in this plan as Ruiz is more of a true number 10, with super speedy wingers like iturbe and Centurion, i feel like it's more of a stable set up.

As for Centurion idk if he was nervous or what happened to him but i was expecting a lot more, at least when Iturbe or Lanzini, or vietto were selfish they dribbled past a few players.

Argentina is missing a real goalscorer someone like Icardi.Vietto is a good player but he isn't lethal

Before the Chile goal: Argentina had lots of quick passing, good movement but that final pass was always off.

After the Chile goal: Argentina looked like they were playing in a pick up game in the park.

After that first red card Argentina didn't ever look like they were a man up. Terrible second half.
