GAITAN insane goal, MESSI, ICARDI, more

Lionel MESSI scored his first goal of the year, Nicolas GAITAN already has a goal of the year candidate, Mauro ICARDI put Juventus to the sword with a double, Eduardo SALVIO scored for Benfica, Lisandro for Lyon and Ezequiel LAVEZZI had a double for PSG.

Lionel MESSI scored his first goal of the year, a penalty kick, as Barcelona won 4-0 against Espanyol.

Nicolas GAITAN scored a goal which is already a goal of the year candidate. A back heel volley clip. You have to see it to believe it. Eduardo SALVIO also scored a goal for Benfica, one which wasn't called right away. His shot hit the crossbar and crossed the line but went back out right away.

Mauro ICARDI, who was denied by Sampdoria to go to the South American Youth Championship with Argentina, scored twice for Sampdoria in their 2-1 win against Juventus.

Lisandro LOPEZ scored a penalty kick for Lyon in their league cup match.

Ezequiel LAVEZZI scored twice for PSG, one off a Javier PASTORE assist in their league cup match.

- Lavezzi's top form is back :)

- Nico's goal was crazy, really hope he goes to EPL, Liverpool of course, but Man Utd (if they will play him) would be his best option.

- Salvio's goal could be even better than Nico's

- Icardi's goals were great.

- Lopez should be the back-up of Higuain, who by the way, is finally back :D

@Leandro, Lavezzi's been on fire..but should he be starting ahead of Agüero or Higuaín. Of course not. He's most useful off the bench. I just feel like because of him being misused by Batista some people feel like he should be nowhere near the NT which I disagree with.

@Aka.MR.D, I agree with you that Lavezzi should not have been our winger at the Copa and that Messi would have been a much better option there.

As much as I like El Pocho for his work ethic and toughness the fact of the matter is that he COMPLETELY chocked in the face of pressure during the Copa, he could not handle being the starter, his crossing and finishing where pathetic and 80% of the time the ball ended up in the highest seating section of the stadium from the anxiety he had. He was playing great as a sub, is even playing great at club now, but I am hesitant to give the guy another serious consideration considering our luxury of options upfront; talents like Lamela are begging to enter the team as a supportive forward player.

I still want him in the team, same way I want Guinazu in the team, but only as subs for injuries or for when the other team gets physical and we need some huevos.. Tevez would also apply there..

.. lets see if Lavezzi can keep this form up and mature as a player.

Lavezzi was completely misused in the Copa America. He was played as a pure winger under Batista while Messi was playing as a false (deep) 9. Completely idiotic.

Yeah, Lavezzi is on a roll! Looks like he has a cooler head when finishing.. I still cringe at his crosses and shots during the Copa America, he could not handle the pressure.

Pastore to Lavezzi? Seems like a daily thing now! Hopefully it will turn into some Pastore to Messi! Soon enough

What's so impressive about Gaitan's goal? I can do that with 1 hand in my pocket and the other giving a high 5. Just kidding of course, what a beauty of a goal.
