Gonzalo HIGUAIN to miss Argentina match

Gonzalo HIGUAIN has picked up an injury and is set to miss Argentina's match against Saudi Arabia next week.

HIGUAIN, who picked up a muscle injury during Real Madrid's Champions League match is likely to miss Argentina's clash against Saudi Arabia. HIGUAIN had to be substituted off and was un-able to finish the match. There is no word on whether or not SABELLA will call-up a replacement or if he will go with the players he has already chosen for the match.

I think the main thing Lavezzi brings is that he can come off the bench and stretch the defense if the opposition is just sitting behind the ball. He can dribble down the wing with pace, a very good crosser of the ball. I think he's part of a Plan B.

I agree, we should see Licha have his chance..
And @Martin, i absolutely agree Lamela should be in the group, with time he will if he keeps steady. However, Lavezzi is important for us, he is one of the few players we have along with Mascherano, Guinazu and Campagnero that can get gritty when they have to.. alot of our other players are highly technical and 'soft'.. not to mention their clubs would kill them if they risked themselves against teams like Peru. We need some brawlers.. on the bench. .but we need them there.

It is a golden chance to call Licha as Higuain's back-up, and Lamela might also get the chance.

I really wish we can beat Saudi Arabia with 17-0 score line .. Will be my best day ever, oh and if Messi score like 6 goals .. WOW !!!

It should be an easy walk over kind of games, Saudi team can handle up to 10 mins but then we wont even notice they are on the field. Oh, and they aren't that type of team which will go to hurt our players !!

SABELLA should call ERICK LAMELA he doing so good instead the lavezzi guy wich his game is not doing so good in the bench all the time but LAMELA is doing so good like angeldimaria lamela have 7 goals already and also he is 20 years old perfect for the next world cup and 2014 SABELLA SHOULD START looking for young talented players who can run the 90 minutes

Sabella did call up Lopez early in his tenure but was injured soon afterwards and hasn't been called upon since. Why hasn't he been called upon since? I don't know but starting rumors won't get us any closer to an answer.

If internationals are so worried about someone on the bench taking their spot then they're not world-class. To be clear, I don't think this is Higuaín's concern. He's been nothing but professional playing second fiddle to Benzema (undeservedly).

So now that Lopez isn't in the squad Higuaín's back up will be Di Santo. Argentina, with the best attack in the world will now sub in a guy that wouldn't crack a spot on the top 10 national teams.

No need to take add any forward against Higuain. Just play 4-4-2- with Tino-Mascherano-Gago-Di Maria midfield..

I am thinking the opposite as Sabella will not call a high profile player for Higuain replacement as Sabella always avoid high competition between players.Although, it should be like that in order to have the best players in the team. But Sabella is very emphasis in bringing harmony and unity to the team. It's more on psychological factor Mostly he will call Lavezzi or domestic base striker.Anyway against Saudi Albiceleste should be confident to use his full attacking power as they will only playing defensively.

Thanx for the correction. Barcos does have great positioning and great first touch with Messi and Co. Let's give Di Santo a chance then. Something is very suspect about Licha as to why he's omitted from the NT despite his good form. Let's not create stories but that is very odd. I bet Tevez joins the NT before Licha. I hope Sabella gives him a shot. I like all my fellow countrymen except ones who chose to play for a different NT. ex: camoranesi among others. No excuse.

Who knows... Sabella might just go 4-4-2 and eliminate Higuain's role....

Barcos isn't in the Saudi Arabia squad. If Sabella plays the same formation he's been going with that would imply Di Santo is starting.

...and this is why Lopez should be on the bench.

I hope Sabella keeps Barcos. He's got great position and it's a shame he hasn't scored at least 3-4 goals. Sabella has already included a few new faces. Let's not start rearranging the whole squad and let's keep the core players going.
